To people confused about their grief. The passing of someone like Toriyama is a unique kind of grief. 99% of us never met him and yet he changed our lives. I’ve already seen people saying don’t be sad Dragon ball will keep going. But it’s not the franchise itself that changes our lives it’s the vision of this one man. It will be hard for anyone outside the fandom to understand what it’s like but don’t be afraid to grieve, don’t think you shouldn’t because you didn’t know him. Dragon ball helped me have so many experiences and meet people and have hype community reactions but it was also there in moments with just me. Those are the moments coming to mind right now, quiet moments alone with this series. For me is was watching Goku go super Saiyan 3 before all my sport matches to hype me up. And it was playing kakarot after a bad breakup, small moments that no one will know about that’s what’s hitting me the hardest. This kind of grief also gives us a community to help each other out through this process, if you’re a new or old dragon ball fan we are all feeling the same thing and we can all be there for each other through this ❤️
i feel the same man dragonball brought so much to me and other people around the world matter of fact to the world itself the games the show the characters the music all that just helped me man i have figures stickers shirts lights that are dragonball themed and he also brought naruto to my life essentially helping me get through bad situations
Been thinking about this since I heard the news of his passing. What’s now just starting to hit me is that even though I never met the man, I realize how much of my life has been impacted by this world of his creation. I remember coming home from school and getting all my work done so I could watch DBZ on Toonami a 5:00 pm eastern time. We didn’t have a whole lot, so it was one of the only things I could count on to make me smile and look forward to. My friends who also watched we’d talk about it at lunch every time a new episode dropped. But, beyond all the moments, discussions, and memories. Dragon Ball taught me how to hope, helped cultivate my imagination even when my childhood wasn’t so great, and it was able to make my dreams better at night when I’d fall asleep. It helped foster my interests not just in anime, but art, Japanese culture, music, martial arts, and so many others. Even though a lot of people consider the story of Dragon Ball and DBZ simple, that’s the beauty of it. The narratives don’t need to be complex or deep. The most important lesson I received from the show was that there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome, I still use this in my life today at 34yrs old. No matter how insurmountable the task you can train yourself to overcome it, the darkness only wins if you let it. Never give up, always keep trying. I’m not the most successful person but I never let failure stop me completely. Such a simple and beautiful premise and I got a lot of that from emulating Goku and his constant fight to overcome obstacles. Thank you for everything Toriyama sensei, and RIP. Sorry about the wall of text this has just been on my mind all day.
DB Z (and GitS) introduced me into Anime genre. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama San.
He was born 1955 in April 5, year of the goat🐐, now he that passed away in the year of the dragon🐉. He was a truly legend and his legacy will always be in our hearts and memories as we cherish them until the very end. To me, Dragon Ball wasn't just a part of my childhood, it's part of my soul. I can't even remember when I discovered Dragon Ball, it's always been there for me for as long as I can remember, during all the highs and lows of life. If there's one regret I have, it's that I'll never be able to thank Toriyama for everything his works have done for me and how they shaped me as a person. To the person who was essentially my third parent, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
In 2001 my dad died just as I turned 17. Shortly after I was introduced to dragon ball and watched from the beginning. The catharsis of the Cell Saga will be with me forever

And Dragon Ball was that show that every single Day i would watch after school It taught me to fight for what is right, to never give up, to care for your friends and family It was that show that made me meet the People that are my best friends. I totally understand Dragon Ball filling a void. I learned a lot of values of trust, friendship, respect and loyalty because of Akira Toriyama’s creation. I didn’t have the best life teachers at home, to be honest. And not only did I learn those values, I got to use Dragon Ball as an outlet and escape from reality. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without Akira Toriyama. I could never thank him enough for bringing me so much joy. Thank you, Mr. Toriyama. ❤️ we will miss you forever.

It still feels unreal and hard to realize that he passed ... Like DB and him felt like a thing that were always there and would always be there for us to enjoy and immerse ourself in the worlds he created and now it feels empty knowing he won't be there anymore. I've been scrolling twitter for the past few days and seeing all the people affected and all the people he influenced (other mangakas, artists but also people totally unrelated like athletes etc) helped realize how much of an influence and a legacy he had. We truly lost a great one :/
Dragon Ball, Goku, and Akira Toriyama by proxy taught me so many virtues of being a good person, to uphold your integrity and fight for what you believe in. i grew up with my father but he was very distant in my childhood due to work and such, and i learned so many lessons about being a “man” from watching Goku, and when i got older the importance of living life with a fullness and purpose.

I grew up in a very Christian household so I wasn't allowed to watch anime until I was in Highschool, but OG Dragonball was the first one I decided to watch, and I loved every minute of it. Going from that to binging Z, to waiting every week for a new episode of Super. Before I knew it I had such a love and understanding for the show. Whenever I felt down I would watch Goku beat Frieza again, or the first time he went UI. None of that would have happened without Akira Toriyama. I owe him so much, and I'm so thankful for everything he created. He will be missed far and wide. We love you Akira❤️
watching dbs broly in the theaters with my mom is always a great memory of mine. that was her first reintroduction to dragonball since the cell saga. Toriyama sensei has literally touched generations with his work, truly an amazing person.
Man… on my birthday when I was 10 and it landed on a Friday which was when they aired dbz movies in my country and we were all in front of the tv waiting to see which movie it was going to be and we all are just there watching and enjoying the moment. Christ one of my first memories as a kid was me buying dbz tradeable cards and playing with some friends in kindergarten and then elementary lmfao. Also when I moved here to the US, dbz helped me make friends that I still speak to from time to time to this day, I mean shit, I am not a huge anime guy but dragon ball is far beyond that, there’s not a single tv show or cartoon I’ve watched and rewatched as much as I’ve done it with dragon ball, and it never gets old… it never EVER does. His legacy will live on forever and I will continue to enjoy his art the same way I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. I will always hold a huge special place for dbz in my heart

I remember when i was like, 12 or so, dragon ball Z from the saiyan saga to the end of namek saga would play every weekend on direct TV as a marathon and I would always...ALWAYS lie in bed and watch it, literally spending every second of the weekend it was playing watching DBZ. I later on watched the cell saga and buu saga online and man, Toriyama made a franchise that I just could not stop watching, could not stop loving, could not stop enjoying. I will, for as long as I live, love dragon ball and NEVER stop loving it. Rest in Peace Toriyama, hope you know your legacy made millions upon millions of people's lives better. 💚

For anyone who doesn’t grasp the grief over Toriyama’s passing, it’s on a similar level to Kobe. Someone who you likely never met, never had a connection to, but yet they had a profound effect on your life. So much so that they, as well as their creations, felt like family.
Rest in peace to Akira Toriyama. He created one of the greatest anime's of all time that will continue to live on for as time goes on. He created our childhoods, for that, he will forever have a special place in our hearts.

Dragon Ball was introduced to me when the original Xenoverse came out. I thought the characters were so cool, and immediately fell in love with the story and the game. At that time, I also saw Dokkan battle on the app store, and ran across your channel at around the 1st Anniversary. I ended up watching all of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and then kept up with Super as it was being released in Japan. The sheer impact that Dragon Ball has done to help me through tough times in life is unreal. I hope King Yemma is treating him well in the Otherworld.
You don't have to feel crazy, there's a lot of people who grew up in single parent homes, and with no good male role models, having someone like Goku who started from nothing, classified as the lowest of the low, rise up the ranks and prove with hard work even those that came from nothing can match up with the elite, having a male role model, even if fictitious, to look up to like that can absolutely help fill the void, you are absolutely not alone in that matter rest assured.
My first steps into Dragon Ball world was the game DBZ Budokai 3 in around 2013. The more I played this game, the more I started to like it, and the more I wanted to know about it, so I started watching the anime from DB EP1 till the very last, including DBZ, DBGT, and DBS. And today, Dragon Ball is everything to me, despite of me being threatened again and again to leave dragon ball, I never could leave it at all. It's deeply etched into my heart and my character. And today, hearing the father of DB pass away is just so heartbreaking. He will always be remembered 💔💔
I'm very new to dragon ball, I only started in December of 2021. But I owe him so much. Some of my closest friendships are because of dragon ball, I learned to draw by drawing my favorite characters, I got through my senior year in highschool watching DBZ while doing school. I'm 22. So I haven't been around the whole time Dragon Ball has been. However, I've been a fan for most of my life. When I was really young, I caught some episodes on cartoon network, but I really got into it when DBZ kai came on one day after watching Avatar the Last Airbender. It was the episode of Goku fighting Vegeta in the saiyan saga. So I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Since watching that episode, I've loved the series, much to my mother's dismay at the time, lol. I went out to find all things Dragon Ball and bought the orange boxes shortly after first finding the series on nicktoons. Everything Dragon ball, I loved and sought to have. I watched the entire series and even GT, played around trying to go super saiyan, and shoot ki blasts, raised my arms when Goku was gathering ki for the spirit bomb. I can't tell you how many times I tried to emulate what Gohan taught Videl in the early Buu saga. I played Tenkaichi 3 and the raging blast series more than I'd like to admit. I was ecstatic when BoG was announced, followed by RoF, and eventually super. I completely relate to the experience of dragon ball filling the void of an absent parent. This took my mind off of not having a father figure. It captivated my attention and took me on a grand adventure. I've read the manga up to date and enjoyed everything about this beloved series. I've been a fan of Toriyama's work for most of my life. Been a part of the Dragon Ball community most of my life and the Dokkan community for its entire lifespan thus far. I'm extremely saddened by the passing of Akira Toriyama, but I'm happy to have experienced his work and his influence on media. I wouldn't even be me without Akira Toriyama's creations. It's inspired my creative writings, my ideas for videos or books, I've enjoyed the creations inspired from Dragon Ball. He left such an impact on so many. I also felt very sad with the passing of Jason David Frank aka the green power ranger, Im a huge power ranger fan and had the pleasure to met him at a comic con and it crushed me when I heard the news the same as it crushed me to heard what happen to Toriyama

Hi Nano, I used to watch your dokkan videos in my days of high school / college and just came across this one. Hearing you talk about growing up in a single parent household and the impact dragon ball had on you truly resonated with me. I also grew up with only my mother, and watching dragon ball in the early 2000's was like some sort of miracle cure to the fire that was constantly around me as a child. Dragon ball helped me through my childhood and it will always be something near and dear to my heart. I want to pass on the magic of dragon ball to my children in the future as well - and this is what makes dragon ball timeless. I'm about to be 27 in June and maaaan like dragonball has been so so important to every single fuckin era of my life got me thru seizures back in the day and being homeless thru my early teenaged years and when my pops passed away its actually wild to think how much more prevelant it is in my life now at 27. I will always be a true fan I love it I love akira, i love everything that has anything to do with akira. the friends I bonded with over dragonball I still talk to, to this very day and we are sad but so fucking grateful for what akira did for us. The way i knew what dragon ball is was i was at my uncles for a party and i was 7 or 8 and i wanted to watch avengers infinity war. there was another kid he said i want to watch dragon ball and my uncle said first i will watch a little of the avengers movie then he will watch dragon ball i asked my uncle What's dragon ball? he said after you watch a little of you're movie you will see and i watched dragon ball super Resurrection and i fell in love with dragon ball. and then in 2022 i started watching DBZ and then watched DBS and i finished dragon ball last month Rest in peace Akira Toriyama you changed my life.

I remember growing up and randomly one day waking up to see dragonball on some random channel before it came to toonami and in my head was like what is this and I forever was hooked. I find it crazy you pulled out Budokai 1 because I still have my original copy also! The lengths I had to go through to get that game I forever cherish those memories.

I'm grateful to Akira Toriyama because his work gave me some of my best friends in life. As far back as I can remember, Dragon Ball was there. I've been an avid collector and enjoyer of Dragon Ball since then. I have a story that will stick with me forever. Dragon Ball Z Budokai, I'm convinced, saved my life. I was very ill when I was 10 years old. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with me, my mom was scared for me, it was a really troubling time. To try and make me feel better, my mother went to Wal-Mart and found Dragon Ball Z Budokai for PS2. She surprised me with it and she said I went from looking miserable and on my way out the door to the happiest and closest to my usual self she's seen in over a month. It was difficult at first, trying to get up and play. But I was determined... My mom was so sweet, she set up my PS2 for me and put the game in and left it on so I could play when I had the strength. I remember how difficult it was at first, but I was so enthralled with playing the story mode. When I got to the part where Goku was fighting his heart virus, something in me had enough and wanted to fight my illness the same way Goku fought his. I fought for my life just like Goku and just like Goku, by the time I beat the game, I beat whatever was killing me. I recovered and got better. I felt so much better as the credits to Budokai began to roll. It took me 3 weeks to beat the game, but it was worth it. I survived my mystery illness and I think Budokai is what helped me through it. Goku helped me through it. Thank you Akira, you really did so much for myself and many others without realizing it.
I can't remember a moment in my life where I didn't know what Dragon Ball was, he gave all of us such amazing childhoods and even gave us so many memories in our adulthood. Rest in Peace Akira Toriyama, he will always be the king.
I’ve never ran faster in my life than from the bus stop to catch dbz before it aired as a kid. There’s a legit hole in our hearts but it ended up bringing us all together again which was all he really cared about. ❤

man watching this, brought back so many nostalgic memories and feelings...dragon ball has impacted my life in a huge way too , i was born in 91 and its hard to think about what my life would be like if i hadnt seen it or wasnt created. what hit me the most is when you brought up the bootleg games and using the spring to hold and push down the button for playstation. Having to print out cheat codes offline back when dial up and AIM (aol instant messanger) was at its peak. anyway this video hit hard it just help me think back on things that really made my life and shaped me into the person i am today and how much i appreciate those things that i havent really thought about it a long time.

Even though a lot of people consider the story of Dragon Ball and DBZ simple, that’s the beauty of it. The narratives don’t need to be complex or deep. The most important lesson I received from the show was that there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome, I still use this in my life today at 34yrs old. No matter how insurmountable the task you can train yourself to overcome it, the darkness only wins if you let it. Never give up, always keep trying. I’m not the most successful person but I never let failure stop me completely. Such a simple and beautiful premise and I got a lot of that from emulating Goku and his constant fight to overcome obstacles. Thank you for everything Toriyama sensei, and RIP. Sorry about the wall of text this has just been on my mind all day.

DB Z (and GitS) introduced me into Anime genre. I was so close to visiting Japan one point myself. I had experience with modeling and in late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the Resident Evil 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part and I can't forgive myself for wasting such an opportunity to visit the place that inspired artists like Toriyama San.

To me, Dragon Ball wasn't just a part of my childhood, it's part of my soul. I can't even remember when I discovered Dragon Ball, it's always been there for me for as long as I can remember, during all the highs and lows of life. If there's one regret I have, it's that I'll never be able to thank Toriyama for everything his works have done for me and how they shaped me as a person. To the person who was essentially my third parent, thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

I didn’t have the best life teachers at home, to be honest. And not only did I learn those values, I got to use Dragon Ball as an outlet and escape from reality. It still feels unreal and hard to realize that he passed ... Like DB and him felt like a thing that were always there and would always be there for us to enjoy and immerse ourself in the worlds he created and now it feels empty knowing he won't be there anymore.

Dragon Ball, Goku, and Akira Toriyama by proxy taught me so many virtues of being a good person, to uphold your integrity and fight for what you believe in. i grew up with my father but he was very distant in my childhood due to work and such, and i learned so many lessons about being a “man” from watching Goku, and when i got older the importance of living life with a fullness and purpose.

I grew up in a very Christian household so I wasn't allowed to watch anime until I was in Highschool, but OG Dragonball was the first one I decided to watch, and I loved every minute of it. Going from that to binging Z, to waiting every week for a new episode of Super. Before I knew it I had such a love and understanding for the show. Whenever I felt down I would watch Goku beat Frieza again, or the first time he went UI. None of that would have happened without Akira Toriyama. I owe him so much, and I'm so thankful for everything he created. He will be missed far and wide. We love you Akira❤️
watching dbs broly in the theaters with my mom is always a great memory of mine. that was her first reintroduction to dragonball since the cell saga. Toriyama sensei has literally touched generations with his work, truly an amazing person.

Man… on my birthday when I was 10 and it landed on a Friday which was when they aired dbz movies in my country and we were all in front of the tv waiting to see which movie it was going to be and we all are just there watching and enjoying the moment. Christ one of my first memories as a kid was me buying dbz tradeable cards and playing with some friends in kindergarten and then elementary lmfao. Also when I moved here to the US, dbz helped me make friends that I still speak to from time to time to this day, I mean shit, I am not a huge anime guy but dragon ball is far beyond that, there’s not a single tv show or cartoon I’ve watched and rewatched as much as I’ve done it with dragon ball, and it never gets old… it never EVER does. His legacy will live on forever and I will continue to enjoy his art the same way I’ve been doing it since I was a kid. I will always hold a huge special place for dbz in my heart

I remember when i was like, 12 or so, dragon ball Z from the saiyan saga to the end of namek saga would play every weekend on direct TV as a marathon and I would always...ALWAYS lie in bed and watch it, literally spending every second of the weekend it was playing watching DBZ. I later on watched the cell saga and buu saga online and man, Toriyama made a franchise that I just could not stop watching, could not stop loving, could not stop enjoying. I will, for as long as I live, love dragon ball and NEVER stop loving it. Rest in Peace Toriyama, hope you know your legacy made millions upon millions of people's lives better. 💚

Dragon Ball was introduced to me when the original Xenoverse came out. I thought the characters were so cool, and immediately fell in love with the story and the game. At that time, I also saw Dokkan battle on the app store, and ran across your channel at around the 1st Anniversary. I ended up watching all of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and then kept up with Super as it was being released in Japan. The sheer impact that Dragon Ball has done to help me through tough times in life is unreal. I hope King Yemma is treating him well in the Otherworld.
You don't have to feel crazy, there's a lot of people who grew up in single parent homes, and with no good male role models, having someone like Goku who started from nothing, classified as the lowest of the low, rise up the ranks and prove with hard work even those that came from nothing can match up with the elite, having a male role model, even if fictitious, to look up to like that can absolutely help fill the void, you are absolutely not alone in that matter rest assured.
My first steps into Dragon Ball world was the game DBZ Budokai 3 in around 2013. The more I played this game, the more I started to like it, and the more I wanted to know about it, so I started watching the anime from DB EP1 till the very last, including DBZ, DBGT, and DBS. And today, Dragon Ball is everything to me, despite of me being threatened again and again to leave dragon ball, I never could leave it at all. It's deeply etched into my heart and my character. And today, hearing the father of DB pass away is just so heartbreaking. He will always be remembered 💔💔

I'm 22. So I haven't been around the whole time Dragon Ball has been. However, I've been a fan for most of my life. When I was really young, I caught some episodes on cartoon network, but I really got into it when DBZ kai came on one day after watching Avatar the Last Airbender. It was the episode of Goku fighting Vegeta in the saiyan saga. So I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Since watching that episode, I've loved the series, much to my mother's dismay at the time, lol. I went out to find all things Dragon Ball and bought the orange boxes shortly after first finding the series on nicktoons. Everything Dragon ball, I loved and sought to have. I watched the entire series and even GT, played around trying to go super saiyan, and shoot ki blasts, raised my arms when Goku was gathering ki for the spirit bomb. I can't tell you how many times I tried to emulate what Gohan taught Videl in the early Buu saga. I played Tenkaichi 3 and the raging blast series more than I'd like to admit. I was ecstatic when BoG was announced, followed by RoF, and eventually super. I completely relate to the experience of dragon ball filling the void of an absent parent. This took my mind off of not having a father figure. It captivated my attention and took me on a grand adventure. I've read the manga up to date and enjoyed everything about this beloved series. I've been a fan of Toriyama's work for most of my life. Been a part of the Dragon Ball community most of my life and the Dokkan community for its entire lifespan thus far. I'm extremely saddened by the passing of Akira Toriyama, but I'm happy to have experienced his work and his influence on media. I wouldn't even be me without Akira Toriyama's creations. It's inspired my creative writings, my ideas for videos or books, I've enjoyed the creations inspired from Dragon Ball. He left such an impact on so many. Hi Nano, I used to watch your dokkan videos in my days of high school / college and just came across this one. Hearing you talk about growing up in a single parent household and the impact dragon ball had on you truly resonated with me. I also grew up with only my mother, and watching dragon ball in the early 2000's was like some sort of miracle cure to the fire that was constantly around me as a child. Dragon ball helped me through my childhood and it will always be something near and dear to my heart. I want to pass on the magic of dragon ball to my children in the future as well - and this is what makes dragon ball timeless. I'm grateful to Akira Toriyama because his work gave me some of my best friends in life. As far back as I can remember, Dragon Ball was there. I've been an avid collector and enjoyer of Dragon Ball since then.
I have a story that will stick with me forever. Dragon Ball Z Budokai, I'm convinced, saved my life. I was very ill when I was 10 years old. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with me, my mom was scared for me, it was a really troubling time. To try and make me feel better, my mother went to Wal-Mart and found Dragon Ball Z Budokai for PS2. She surprised me with it and she said I went from looking miserable and on my way out the door to the happiest and closest to my usual self she's seen in over a month. It was difficult at first, trying to get up and play. But I was determined... My mom was so sweet, she set up my PS2 for me and put the game in and left it on so I could play when I had the strength. I remember how difficult it was at first, but I was so enthralled with playing the story mode. When I got to the part where Goku was fighting his heart virus, something in me had enough and wanted to fight my illness the same way Goku fought his. I fought for my life just like Goku and just like Goku, by the time I beat the game, I beat whatever was killing me. I recovered and got better. I felt so much better as the credits to Budokai began to roll. It took me 3 weeks to beat the game, but it was worth it. I survived my mystery illness and I think Budokai is what helped me through it. Goku helped me through it.

Having to print out cheat codes offline back when dial up and AIM (aol instant messanger) was at its peak. anyway this video hit hard it just help me think back on things that really made my life and shaped me into the person i am today and how much i appreciate those things that i havent really thought about it a long time.
