I made these last weekend! My first time trying whoopie pies, and they were INCREDIBLE!
My daughter and I were talking about how much we love watching John teach us how to create his wonderful recipe’s. We declared John the Mr Rogers of cooking shows. We are not saying this lightly. He is always honest, thoughtful, caring, his attention to the details so we’ll be successful and his kindness shows in all his videos. I love Whoopie pies!!!! I live in Pa… when my husband was working near Lancaster he would buy them at an Amish market for me. One of my absolute favorite treats!

You make using a piping bag look easy. When I do it it's like a disaster with icing on the ceiling, floor, counter, and my clothes lol.

I have lived in Arkansas my entire life. My grandma taught me how to make these. I didn’t realize that everyone else didn’t know about them the way I did until my friends started saying they had never had one and didn’t know what I was talking about. I am in my late fourties’

I love whoopie pies, both chocolate, pumpkin and also banana. I grew up and worked in central western PA. There, instead of whoopie pies, they were more commonly called GOBS. A Johnstown based baking company sold them, with the wrapping having the pic of a sailor., gob is a nickname for a sailor. There is also a gob cake, which is baked in two jelly roll pans then put together with a white frosting..
I live outside of Johnstown, lol. I was going to comment that the big argument between our family here and my son in law from the State College area is Woopie Pie vs. Gob. Yes, in the Johnstown area it is a Gob. Then of course there is wonderfully moist Gob cake.

BTW, I love Preppy Kitchen, he makes me happy just watching him. I'm a retired Home Economics teacher, (Northern Bedford) and I love cookbooks, I read them like any other book, not just for the recipes.His book is beautiful.

I love pumpkin everything. I live in So Cal, so the weather is too hot to bake until mid to late October. If it weren't for the hot weather, I'd start baking pumpkin everything beginning Sept 1st. My husband is the apple guy. I make sure he gets his fill of apple baked goods.

I used a different brand of purée other than Libby’s and live in a hot state with a hot kitchen so my batter was very runny. I saw a suggestion from another person to add 3/4 cup extra flour and that helped a lot! They smell so good, I can’t wait to assemble. Thank you for the recipe!
I am team pumpkin all the way. I live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (Amish country) and the whoopie pies here are to die for. In addition to chocolate and pumpkin whoopie pies we also have peanut butter and red velvet whoopie pies. You can easily gain ten pounds when you visit Lancaster County.
