I looked at your video to find the length of line to cut. I see you pull the thing to pieces to reload, I don't have to unless there's a small piece of leftover line left inside. I cut one length, with the head piece still all together. I then align the arrows on the spool part with the arrows on the outer edge. Feed the line through one of the holes in the side casing until it stops, then making sure the two arrows line up, depress the spool and push the line until it pops out the other hole. You then make the lengths equal and then use the spool to wind the line up inside the head of the trimmer. Mine is a NZ Stihl, can't imagine that there'd be so much difference between the US model. Love to hear your comments.

Sounds like you have the C-26-2 easy spool trimmer head . The one on this machine was not that it’s more basic

I have seen people just pock a string into one side and another into the other side.on my new s38 i just pocked string straight through center and twisted till they were both same length.are these ways wrong?

They are not. Its just a different string attachment.
