Mother, Father! I never knew that! Man, thanks for showing this. I was one of those boneheads that manually wound up the line and then fumbled about pushing it through the holes and at the same time replacing the head and screwing it down. Duh! Thanks again! Cheers.
Awesome!!!! And you can also feed a single 12 foot length all the way through the center of the spool and then follow your steps... I used to hate restringing, but now it's just a few minutes and I''m off.... Thank You!!!!
Was at a couple vids before this one. Thought my spool was broken. After your vid I got spooled up and working in under 5 min. I was trying to spool it manually like the other vids. So simple this way. Big thanks!
Thank you brother man, I bought an FS 38 head today and was befuddled how to load the line, and this shows me clearly how. I'm going to machine the shaft of my Stihl FE 55 TO suit it, because I cannot find any new trimmer heads for it. And this FE 38 head is much easier and quicker to load the cutting line than the original FE 55 one.
wow - thank you mr timberr teck - i am the description of all the others who have commented prior - but with over thirty years of landscape maint experience - I can usually figure out how to add line to weedeater heads - this one gave me several hissy fits 🤬🤣- thank you again for making the time to educate so many of us🍻
Thank you so much for this video with clear instructions; I've been struggling with this thing and am looking for something else to buy in the hopes that it would be easier to deal with; trimming my lawn is a nightmare for me every time I think about it. I appreciate your video, mate.😀😀
Watched this video last year to learn how to put more line on. Watching it again this year because I'm terrible at learning. Looking forward to being back again next year! Thanks a ton!
Muchas gracias compré una cabeza de esta herramienta intenté poner y no podía hacerlo y busqué videos y no podía hasta que encontré tu video y lo pude hacer muchas gracias Señor gracias
Just wanted to say thank you! I forget almost every year. I only have to weed whack 3-4 times a year. Thanks again! Also little tip I was told by another guy was, get your length you need (12 feet 15 feet etc.) Cut it a single length then feed it into both sides. Then go from there and when you get to the end you make your final cut and It should be even!
Brilliant, just got one of these second hand and from what I was used to on other cheaper brands this is chalk and cheese, don’t even know what the other methods were you were taking about but this is gold
Thank you so much for the clear explanations and detailed video explaining what has been such a challenge previously. My FS38 is ready for action and all thanks to you! Searching now if you did a chain saw sharpening video or two…. Keep it up, you rock!
Amazing we enjoyed watching the man as well as learning the best method for respooling the line. You look a bit like Jonny Dep and Leonardo Di Caprio with your own landscaper style twist 😮❤🎉
I have exactly the same weed eater with the same head and this works great. However, me and bump feed don't seem to be on the same wave length so every time it's out of string I have to take it all apart and do this method all over again. It's a love/hate relationship that's really leaning more to the hate side.
This is great. My issue after purchasing a brand new one on Friday. Is getting the thing to feed more line out. I'll put new line in before the next use and see if i do it like this it feeds out better.
This works for a quick spool, but you are supposed to hand wind the line. When you take the thing apart, you can see the arrows where to put the line in and then you hand spool it around each side it’s a lot faster and you can spool a lot more line. This is how we did it as professional landscapers. With the exact same model, there is a lot of confusion over this. Just go to your local sthil dealer and speak to them about it.
Thanks for the tutorial. It clarified a few things for me. I like your way of measuring 6 feet. We used that at a lumber mill I worked at in the early '70s. I measure my string trimmer line that way still.
Love the video! Still having trouble bumping head on a hard surface. I usually lift it up when it idles an just twist the head for more string then put it back down. Any tutorials on how to bump its head an extend line trimmer wire?
OK, I am going to try this next time I load. I will get back to you. I am back, unfortunately this does not work with tap feed but perhaps after inserting the line into the holes in the spool it may be easier to load
SORRY TIMBERRR, Please update this video. The whole idea of this head is simplicity. You DO NOT have to take the head off or apart to recline it, You DO NOT have to cut the line in half (you feed the line (12-15 feet, 2mm or .080” or you can use 2.4mm or .095” but of course shorter) RIGHT THROUGH the HEAD (with the arrows lined up) till it comes out the other side then pull it until equal lengths then wind according to the arrows on the head
Great video! The manual is useless because there are 4 different versions of the cassette head for the FS-38 model, and it does not specify which one you have. Thanks!
I'm confused are so the basic Stihl trimmer has an ez feed stock or that is the ez feed system. I'm used to running it all the way through one string pull the ends together then wind up. I'm just curious cuz I don't want to spend 40$ on an auto cut head . Just bought a fs 38 online. I'll find out tomorrow. Either way great video bud . Nailed it
Thanks for the video! I've been a Stihl tech at Ace Hardware for about 7 years. That trimmer head is fed by one ten foot piece of line fed all the way through the head leaving 5 feet on each end and then winding it up. Is that head different? The FS 38's that we get don't come with that head. Was that added or did that come with the unit? Thanks!
Can someone tell me how to feed it more wire as you're trimming? Does this happen automatically? I know on my honda trimmer, I would kinda smack the bottom of the head (the circular piece) against the pavement or grass kinda lightly and then more line would come out.
This doesn't work for my weed eater. Mine is the fs38 as well but mine doesn't have the white top like yours does though so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.
This is so much easier than trying to wrap the line. So glad I found this video. Worked perfectly!! Thank You !!
I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how this works! Thanks mate
I was getting ready to burn the bloody thing!!
Thank you job done mate.
Love from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks Mate !!

This has changed my life, thank you so much from Down Under!
Can also cut 12 feet and feed it all the way through when the arrows are lined up then pull until even sides then twist it until 4 inches left
Exactly. Way easier than having 2 strings
I love It when a tutorial is simple and down to the point 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I have done this wrong all my life. I feel like I just got the cure to cancer!! Thank you sir!!
Dude you just saved me so much time haha. Awesome video dude!! Thanks
glad it helped, thanks for watching :)
This is great. My issue after purchasing a brand new one on Friday. Is getting the thing to feed more line out. I'll put new line in before the next use and see if i do it like this it feeds out better.

Thanks for the tutorial. It clarified a few things for me. I like your way of measuring 6 feet. We used that at a lumber mill I worked at in the early '70s. I measure my string trimmer line that way still.

In 4min 31 sec you just confirmed to me something that I've been doing the hard way (wrong) for 18 years. 😬

Great video, the owners manual doesn't show this, which is strange, thanks

This doesn't work for my weed eater. Mine is the fs38 as well but mine doesn't have the white top like yours does though so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.
