- N2N - 2009 Tony Awards - Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey are awarded with a Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics Written for the Theatre). Will Ferrell presents. If you ever have a chance to have a conversation or attend a 'talk back' with these guys......GO. They are incredibly funny, laid back, and positive! Next to Normal is currently playing at the Booth Theatre on Broadway, in New York City. Next to Normal also received a Tony Award for Best Actress for Alice Ripley for her role as Diana Goodman. Also featuring J. Robert Spencer, Aaron Tveit, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat, and Louis Hobson.

why did they cut them off? they are amazing and deserve more time! THEY DESERVED THE TONY! they are brilliant.
next to normal has one of the best scores a show has ever had - and while Billy Elliot is very good, it has absolutely NOTHING on next to normal.
Next to Normal has a beautifully written and energetic score to tell a heartfelt story! I'm here because Kitt and Yorkey have written a new tune for Carly Rey Jepson as Frenchy to be sung in Grease Live on Fox two weeks from tonight.
none of the nominees were in the same league. I mean the musicals are amazing dont get me wrong! But the score in next to normal is so amazing!!!!
i really think this should've gotten best musical.
i mean, just because you get a dude who's super-famous and composed the whole score doesn't mean the musical itself was good. i'm sure it was! but it's certainly not the level next to normal is.
@StaraziaSelin66 Well it won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama which is rare for a musical! In my eyes a Pulitzer Prize for Drama is as good as a Tony for Best Musical if not more so!

Play them off with "Piragua". ALWAYS play them off with "Piragua".
It was the big production that won it for Billy. The small shows almost never win.
I saw they only gave Tom Kitt an actual Tony statuette. Did Brian Yorkey also get one afterwards?

Because she just performed onstage with the 9 to 5 cast in the opening
