  • I take you through my day in the life of an ATC Technician in McMurdo Station, Antarctica. I skipped the meal and eating due to covering it on another video. As far as work goes, if you want to be a ATC Maintenance Technician and have experience, this gives you somewhat of a reference of what you will be doing if you work here doing this job.

      Yeah, it truly is an amazing experience and I wouldn't trade it. But lucky for this continent, no one lives here permanently and has to go back after a Max of 14 months. Thank you for your comment!

    You look like you are going to Scots Base. We went there one time and our brakes locked up on the downhill side. Had to plow into the snow banks to slow down.

    What kind of Parka do you have on? I'm just curious because The NorthFace made 1 that has a patch on it saying Antarctica McMurdo Station! Then it peaked my curiosity to see what McMurdo Station was.

    Where is this Phoenix airfield? When I was there, 77,78,79 there was only the Ice runway and Willy Field. Mac town sure has changed from what I remember. I was in FuelsDiv. and made the trips to runways daily running fuel samples or fueling aircraft or transferring fuel . Also there wasn't any ILS system in place for the aircraft, does that give Mc Murdo year round air support now? How do you like the Mattrax on the trucks? The Navy brought down some Fords with terra tires on them and if you got off the roads the only direction they went was down. Worst idea ever. We had some old Dodges with airplane tires and they drove circles around the Fords in the snow But the Dodges were only three or four years old with 12K miles and where held together with baling wire. I will always remember Red right returning green right going. LOL I have been caught on the ice a few times with Zero Vis. and you can't even see a flag. Thanx for the videos they bring back a lot of memories.

    Is precision GPS landing also available besides MLS or is GPS not as effective at the south pole?

    • @KVexKVex
      @KVexKVex  6 років тому +3

      GPS does work and it is the only way they land at the South Pole. There is no Navaids at the South Pole. McMurdo has a MLS but they mainly use that for back up and in bad weather. The Tacan is used rather religiously for the LC130s, C17, Airbus319, and B757.

    Ford.if I would have gotten these jobs I could have you know pay my bills.... infact the second time I got hit up they we're gonna hook me up. Your supposed to do a summer tour before you can do a winter tour. They have thousands of people on the summer tour cause it's milder frozen continent weather than winter frozen continent weather. Winter is up to 150 mph winds and it's pitch black like negative 60 degrees. But they were gonna let me do the winter tour for my first time..they only have like 200 people total on the continent. So my job was like 2 people

    I have a serious question, so there’s a possibility I might be an electrician down there. I asked if the money was taxed or not . My pay would be 1800 a week. How can I figure out how much I’d pay in taxes?
