- I take you through my day in the life of an ATC Technician in McMurdo Station, Antarctica. I skipped the meal and eating due to covering it on another video. As far as work goes, if you want to be a ATC Maintenance Technician and have experience, this gives you somewhat of a reference of what you will be doing if you work here doing this job.

K Vex do you have an email, I would like to live and work there, can you help me out
Thank you for posting this.. I did 3 deployments to McMurdo in the late 80's.. Was a bartender at Erubus Club couple of seasons.. Good times down there!!
Good to hear! That's awesome! So cool hearing stories of people coming down in the 70s and 80s! A lot different compared to now I bet!
Great summary of your job! Thank you!
Haven't worked there yet but I've applied before and i just applied for the upcoming season again, PAE, two positions, equipment operator or carpenter. Thanks for all your videos and comments. Sub'd
High chance of getting both of those, especially in the Summer season
Hell yeah got them fords running nice and strong
No way man. That’s way to 🥶 for me lol . Here in the states south Alabama doesn’t get that cold 🥶
good stuff. depression has nixed my chances to work there.
it nice to see my old home last time ther was 2002 to 2003 did alittle over a year ther workin heavy shop!
Yeah? I bet it looked a lot different then, but similar to the same. I did a tour of the VMF where you used to work, its called Antarctica jobs - mechanics welders machinists!
Coooooool.
❤️
You have better quarters than when I was there. We lived in quancet huts. A tent with probably 24 guys.
One shower every week.
I wish I could work there with you guys. I would be more then happy to be a dishwasher or prep cook for a season. I’m just in total aww over the work and we’re you get to live.
Yeah, it truly is an amazing experience and I wouldn't trade it. But lucky for this continent, no one lives here permanently and has to go back after a Max of 14 months. Thank you for your comment!
Asa Rkynt you should go for it! There are all kinds of jobs for support staff down there.
@@dvach6352 This is super old, but yes if they rehire you.
You look like you are going to Scots Base. We went there one time and our brakes locked up on the downhill side. Had to plow into the snow banks to slow down.
2:20 Yessir, got tracked F250s down there! Shit, sign me up.
Hey Kvex i hope to meet you . i am waiting to hear on my applications but your videos are making me excited for this oppurtunity
Vincent Ott Same, what did you apply for?
Mr. Clean. I applied for production cook or janitorial steward. For McMurdo.
Vincent Ott no kidding? I did the same thing! That sure would be cool if we both got the job, you applied for the next season right?(2019)
Mr. Clean yep I applied for next season. That would be cool haha.
Mr. Clean Where you from. Im from Colorado
do you check and operate the airfield systems even when you know you aren't getting traffic, like in the winter season ?
Any suggestion on what type of clothing we need for our down time?
What kind of Parka do you have on? I'm just curious because The NorthFace made 1 that has a patch on it saying Antarctica McMurdo Station! Then it peaked my curiosity to see what McMurdo Station was.
Do you have any information on ATC jobs/postings? i Finished college for ATC and have always been in love with Antarctica. Figured those 2 would be a good fit together
oh yea did 3 summer and on winter
You guys plug in those trucks or something so they start up in the cold ?
Do you ever test the fire alarms?
Did 15 years with the AF working with the FMQ weather sensors as well as NAVAID/Radar. Spent 9 years remote in Korea/Turkey and very interested to know about the nuances with the work there.
And my wife is Filipina. Small world lol.
MLS = Microwave Landing System.
Not to bring something up, is it ok to uses cellphone while driving? I don't want you to get in trouble. I'm interested in doing this and love the videos.
What’s that song at the end of the video
Wait so do you live there full time or part time
Where is this Phoenix airfield? When I was there, 77,78,79 there was only the Ice runway and Willy Field. Mac town sure has changed from what I remember. I was in FuelsDiv. and made the trips to runways daily running fuel samples or fueling aircraft or transferring fuel . Also there wasn't any ILS system in place for the aircraft, does that give Mc Murdo year round air support now? How do you like the Mattrax on the trucks? The Navy brought down some Fords with terra tires on them and if you got off the roads the only direction they went was down. Worst idea ever. We had some old Dodges with airplane tires and they drove circles around the Fords in the snow But the Dodges were only three or four years old with 12K miles and where held together with baling wire. I will always remember Red right returning green right going. LOL I have been caught on the ice a few times with Zero Vis. and you can't even see a flag. Thanx for the videos they bring back a lot of memories.
This is somewhere in the states people lets not get fooled i bet he wont show the drop offs ..... how can you actually prove your in antartica
Manuel Tovar are you serious or joking?
The Pro 3600. $420 of Arctic Technology.
Is precision GPS landing also available besides MLS or is GPS not as effective at the south pole?
GPS does work and it is the only way they land at the South Pole. There is no Navaids at the South Pole. McMurdo has a MLS but they mainly use that for back up and in bad weather. The Tacan is used rather religiously for the LC130s, C17, Airbus319, and B757.
Ford.if I would have gotten these jobs I could have you know pay my bills.... infact the second time I got hit up they we're gonna hook me up. Your supposed to do a summer tour before you can do a winter tour. They have thousands of people on the summer tour cause it's milder frozen continent weather than winter frozen continent weather. Winter is up to 150 mph winds and it's pitch black like negative 60 degrees. But they were gonna let me do the winter tour for my first time..they only have like 200 people total on the continent. So my job was like 2 people
Does anyone know the song at 9:22
Hey K Vex how do I get a job there with you brother?? I have unlimited skills in welding and carpentry and concrete and masonry, please let me know ok.
one winter
K Vex,
Hi. New Subscriber here and serious question. You're 10 miles out and checking on this equipment. What if you have to pee? I mean... you can't just go right there, right? I mean you could catch exposure yes?
4 Years later, I'm still waiting on an answer.

Thanks for the video. I'm interviewing for a sys-admin position for them. Do you have an email I can contact you to ask some questions? I just retired from the Army as a Node manager. Looking forward to potentially getting selected.
Sure can! Kyleville619@gmail.com

Ork Trukk Drivah I think what it is the UA-cam elites have to make sure no top secrets are being let out
You can smoke weed there? Really wanna know haha
I have a serious question, so there’s a possibility I might be an electrician down there. I asked if the money was taxed or not . My pay would be 1800 a week. How can I figure out how much I’d pay in taxes?
