    Things have changed a bit since we built that shop. I was part of the first crew to work in the new heavy shop. Far cry from the one long bay we had in the old wood building. Wish some of my photos from then were digital, would be cool to do a then/now montage.

    On our farm we put about 10.000 self tapping sheet metal fasteners on all the track lugs on our 600 steiger. Works awsome and it doesn't harm the tracks at all.

    Entirety of machine shop tour is "they have everything a machine shop has".
    Thank God. I was afraid they were having to use sand paper to turn steel rod into parts.

    As an auto tech, I could have a lot of fun there. Having a machine shop is awesome in a remote area. If you don't have a part, you make it.

    Nice to see that the machinist keeps the door locked, I'd come in and find people in there that wasn't supposed to be in there, and stuff would wind up missing so I had to keep the place locked up.

      It's pretty sweet considering the location! The dealership shop im at is about 5 times the size of that shop and our parts department is about the size of that shop! UA-cam redhead equipment.....

    Recycling bins there have to be separated and labeled for all of the different materials so they don't get confused about which bin gets dumped into which hole in the ice

      Apply, and have the education, degrees, or certifications (HVAC, mechanic, etc), pass intensive physical and intensive psychological exams, pass drug screens, and have a clean background check & clean arrest record, no child/animal abuse...etc. They make sure they do NOT hire potential violent, psycho people, who can handle long, lonely days. And get along with others

    How many welders do they have down there? Also what manual welding processes do they use? Is it all stick or they use tig and mig too? I haven’t been able to find anyone who has actually welded down there yet.

    Will you still call it the heavy shop thus were they have you equipment was but it looked in better shape what I work down there the Floors We're in a really good shape they're a pain it And they don't show the overhead Crane that they had I think they had to open I worked at facilities and we subdue the peons all

    I am still questioning why Lockheed is needing 1000 job req's for Antarctica. I don't think they are opening a Disneyland and last I heard Lockheed wasn't that into watching penguins. It's not what they do.

      These guys would be making more than the average mechanic/operator do to the location. I'd say around 100k yr

      @@recklessgamers69 No. pay is very similar to back in the US, not even close to 100k though. but food and housing is provided and no fuel bill so a lot of your money stays in the bank

      @TheTruthQuest123 You gotta be kidding!!. , in my neck of the woods a Diesel apprentice makes around $19, a journeyman about $28 and the Master techs around $40.00. I would guess them Antartica techs should be in the $60.00/hr range, plus per diem and hazard pay at least.

      @TheTruthQuest123 there's your problem. Firestone and the like aren't professional jobs. They're parts changing at best. You need to look towards fleet and equipment repair jobs if you want to make any money.
