In episode 54 of Whisky in SV, I did a blind tasting of 3 Laphroaig Ex-Bourbon casks: The excellent - and relatively available - Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 13), the Laphroaig Cairdeas Warehouse 1 from 2022, versus the Laphroaig 25 Year from 2018. Laphroaig is the brand that kicked off my whisky journey but with my recent foray into bourbon, I had not visited my bottles in a while. What this blind told me is that while the 25 Year is indeed more complex and pleasant, it is definitely not worth 5-6 times the price of the other excellent offerings from this brand. The Laphroaig is a wonderful and very special expression! I have enjoyed it sparingly with a bottle my husband and I bought. It's my favourite out of these 3! My all time fave so far is the 25 year old Lagavulin distilled in 2016. Spectacular and what a gift. We have two bottles and it's a treasure! I would take it over this Laphroaig although I do very much enjoy Laphroaig! Cheers!

Nice review, thanks for saving my wallet😂. I was contemplating whether to buy the 25 (2018) since it was on offer now in my market. I saw another reviewer who did a blind between laphroaig lore & Cairdeas & 25 (2018), and the laphroaig lore actually came out on top.

The 25 has been called the "best value in an old Scotch" on the other hand I tend to agree with you that the peat overshadows the malt so the age really becomes a non-factor.
Laphroaig seems to get pushed aside on the Tube a bit but I think the brand is doing well cruising in the marketplace. Sure the ten is watereed down and can't compete with the integrity of the Ardbeg10. But the Cairdeas releases are more affordable. Unfortunately the 2024 is over $100 now, so that's sad but the CS always shows up for about $85.
The rest of the core range is superfluous IMO even though people do like the Lore and Quater Cask. I just picked up another bittle of Warehouse 1 for $50. Obviously,the market has trashed it but...
I think we are spoiled for choice with peat. I'd like to find a Ancnoc 24 for a decent big number and in the meantime it'll be teenagers and maybe a 21 here and there.
