      If that was their look anyway, then I guess so.
      But it's so far removed from what they actually wear.

      While Miami's hot pink look does kind of work for the style. And if Miami ever gets another WNBA team they should use those colors. But personally I'm so sick of anything retrowave right now due to the saturation of that style right now that it's best to keep them off the court.

      @@NinhLyUK I can see you're point there, but I would say that, that neon pink & blue color scheme is quite infamous with Miami as a city itself. It's fair to say that you could consider it part of the Miami brand, and not just an iconic TV show logo. So, that alternative design, really does fit the city well. That's the one of these new alternative jerseys the NBA uses that I don't have that big an issue it for that reason.
      The rest of them however, I agree with you, they suck.

    I don't think you understand what the earned nba Jerseys represent. NBA teams have always been experimental when it came to Jersey designs, team colour designs... The Miami Heat Jerseys are an homage to Miami vice colours, the Cavs jersey is a classic throwback, the Timberwolves one is a reference to Prince, Milwaukee is another throwback... I agree that you can dislike the Jersey due to it's design, but you can't call it bad just because you don't know the deeper meaning of it.

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  5 років тому +29

      Well, I actually do.
      I'm fully aware that each jersey has some sort of meaning, Miami vice, Cleveland's colours from the 90's, Toronto's 'We The North' campaign etc.
      But as mentioned in the video, they're all badly designed. I stand by that.

    The worst jersey combination ever was on Nov. 12, 2015. The Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets played in their "color rush" uniforms with the Bills in all red (with white helmets) and the Jets in all green (with white helmets). The game was unwatchable for anyone with red/green colorblindness, due to the particular shades of red and green being seen as the the same tint by those viewers.

    The Calgary Flames debuted a jersey at the 1998 NHL Amateur Draft that showed a snorting horse in place of the usual flaming "C". It was awful and enough fans complained that the horse was removed from the front and became shoulder patches instead. In fairness to those 90s baseball jerseys, they were not the regular jerseys for any of the teams, but were worn for a one-day promotional event called "turn ahead the clock night." They were supposed to be "futuristic" uniforms. You're right to say they were all terrible, but they were not worn more than once. It started as a special promotional event in 1998 for the Seattle Mariners and their opponent that night, the Kansas City Royals. Then the following year, MLB had every team do it for one night. A few of them looked OK, the rest were awful. That promotion never happened again. In general, the 90s were a pretty good decade for baseball uniform design, with a return to the traditional button-up style of jerseys after the 70s and 80s-era pullovers and double-knits. That promotion was the big exception.

    • @NinhLyUK

    Disagree with a lot of these takes, but I just want to add a bit. 1) The Earned jerseys are all homages to the past or the city or something. If you read up, they all mean something that I fell connects very well with each of the cities. They aren't just some cobbled together mess. 2) Those MLB jerseys you showed were basically SUPPOSED to look ridiculous. They were all from a promotion that was a throwforward instead of a throwback. They were intentionally ridiculously "futuristic" (or retro-futuristic, to us anyways) as a couple game pronation, hence why they are so radically different (hell, the Mariners whole color scheme was different, which I think is pretty funny given their colors are literally oceans colors. What else would the "Mariners" be?) So, yeah, they suck. But that was the idea.

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  5 років тому

      Thank you for your comments. To answer your points ...
      - You're entitled to your opinion of course, but as mentioned in my top comment - I'm entitled to mine. I don't mind people disagreeing with me, but this is a largely subjective video.
      - I am fully aware of the meaning behind the city jerseys. My qualm is that the links are tenuous and it's merely a marketing ploy/excuse to peddle more jerseys. Miami's jerseys were based from 'Miami Vice', but what's a TV show have to do with basketball? Minnesota's jerseys are inspired by Prince. What's Prince got to do with basketball? If you still think that this is to reflect the culture of these respective cities, you might as well put Donald Trump on the front of Knicks jerseys. Besides, no team needs 6 jerseys per season - do they?
      - I don't think the MLB jerseys were 'supposed' to look ridiculous. I believe that they were testing the market for an overhaul of the look of baseball jerseys. This isn't the first time a sport has done this (see hockey). The fact that the fans hated them, meant that these jerseys never saw light of day again. And for good reason.

As a (dis)honorable mention, allow me to present the original 1960 kit of the American Football League's Denver Broncos (later to join the NFL in the merger). Not the familiar blue and orange of today, but yellow and brown. And, as the finishing touch, stockings with vertical stripes in the aforementioned colors. Vertical. Stripes. When the Broncos wore these uniforms as part of a "throwback uniform" game, most players had twisted the socks for a "vortex" effect, which actually looked pretty cool. Unfortunately, the only cool part of the whole thing, but one takes what one can get. :D
