Really enjoyed this video. I've only got two of these British Library books so far (Evil Roots & Weird Woods) but have been intending to get more because they're great. Seeing them all lined up like that just makes me want them even more! What a great collection. Might have to jump ahead and get this Pan anthology first though, it sounds fantastic.
@@royreadsanything yeah I was really interested in both of those because of a short story I wrote a couple of years ago that I'm expanding into a novel. That was my original motivation anyway, but I enjoyed them so much that I just started looking into any other botanical/ecological horror stuff and ended up going down a massive rabbit hole. Anyway, those two anthologies are still among the best I've ever read for a combination of high quality and wide variety. Getting both those things in one book is rare, but the editors of this series seem to be excellent.
@@NP-Hunt Cool, they must be great for research and context. The botanical weird stories feel particularly creepy when the human> plant barrier breaks down with fungus people and the like.
@@royreadsanything absolutely. There have been a few classic authors in those where I always meant to get to them, then read one of their stories and immediately knew that they were writers I had to push straight to the front of my wishlist and TBR - funnily enough (considering your example) the main one has been William Hope Hodgson.
This is super cool. I didn’t know about these collections, but now I’ll be on the lookout for them. I love collections of tales. These sound great. Wonderful video! -T
Great stuff - I absolutely love these books, and despite only currently owning about 10 of them I already have the spines lined up in the rainbow arrangement. I'm currently reading The Horned God - I love the added illustrations in this one and though I suspect those have come about simply because so much Pan-related imagery already exists, I hope to see more pictures in future editions.
@@royreadsanything By 'the grey one', do you mean Chill Tidings? I've just ordered it in plenty of time for Christmas, so I'll run up against that problem soon. I imagine it will end up next to Cornish Horrors.
@@royreadsanything It arrived today and yes, I think we can call it silver. In other news, a recent photo posted on Twitter of Tales of the Weird designer Mauricio Villamayor's bookshelf seems to confirm that 'rainbow formation' is the 'official' way to display the collection!
I think this series is a bit hit and miss. For example, I really enjoyed The Platform Edge and Into the Depths but Into the London Fog was a real disappointment.
I liked all three of those, as it happens - I think the hit:miss ratio is pretty good, though if I wasn't committed to the ever-growing shelf I'd be checking them out on Kindle before buying.
Oh man, what a great collection! As a collector and reader, I think I covet these! 😉
They're beautiful and reliably entertaining
Thanks for reviewing these. I'd been intrigued by the series.
They are reliably good 👍
I finally got around to watching this - I’m obsessed with that collection! 🤣 great video Roy!
Ta! They'd make good buddy reads, a story per day maybe - lots are on KU 👻
I bought this book as a hardcover edition with a yellow cover. I dont know why but reading from hardcover gives me more pleasure :)

Great duo you have - interesting that different aspects of nature are getting the weird treatment 🍃

@@NP-Hunt I love WHH - a while ago I bought the Night Shade collected editions. Not read them all but some great stuff in there.
I find this collection fascinating. I have to begin collecting. Thank you.
I hope you enjoy them👍

Many thanks! Yes they're a good way to get classic and obscure weird fiction with some context -Roy
Yep, I've bought a lot of those. They're nice books, and I'm crazy for old horror short stories.
Excellent
I enjoyed this video tremendously! Thanks for sharing your collection and your thoughts on your latest addition!
Thanks Michelle, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Fun collections! Great video.
They certainly are - thanks Kelli

Thanks! I must restore the rainbow. Not sure where to put the grey one though!

@@lumpyloppy Yes indeed, a great collection - arguably more silver than grey.

This is how I found you almost a year ago!
Wow so many books I wana read them .

Pretty sure I need that collection
Soooooooooooooo jealous!
