What a great t shirt! 😊 Ok so the sweet valley high, I used to read them all the time when I was a kid. I got busted shoplifting them from the bookshop!!! Mum was so angry I stole but secretly proud it was books 😂
You guys are very charming.
I think I read The Mirror and the Light slower than the other two because I didn’t want to read what I knew was going to happen to Cromwell 😢. I believe my mum still has some of my collection of Sweet Valley High books Roy, it was basically responsible for every opinion I had about American teenagers as a kid😄
Hooray 🎉
What a fun video. I guess it might be time for me to jump on the Sweet Valley High bandwagon.
Like the mask🤿
I was worried when you tagged me in this that I’d said I was going to do it and I just didn’t remember. It does sound interesting though, so maybe…
@@CriminOllyBlog Weirdly, I didn't realise I had tagged you! A fat fingers moment. Or is it fate? 🤔
@ 🤔
You seem to have a Fabulous watch, looks like an Automatic. Please could share details please. Sorry to throw this at a random
No worries, it is indeed an automatic - Icon Nite - I got it for the very bright luminous figures which I can see in the dark for those 'why am I awake at 3am? ' moments.
The sweater fits. Looks good.
Thanks! I love it
Oh dear, I think I may have to join. I haven't read Ulysses yet, but hopefully, that won't be a hindrance.
@@Bryndisdaugtherofgunnar Hooray!
We're on and it will be an adventure. Love the way you introduce this.
@@scallydandlingaboutthebooks Yay! And thanks!
Roy, you are amazing! I probably won’t join this challenge, but I am depending on you to educate me!
@@booksoffthebeatenpath That's a rash choice to make!
Should I read Ulysses first? I have 4 Joyce books, but have only read Dubliners so far.
@@wburris2007 IMHO one does _not_ have to read any other of Joyce's books, nor be Catholic, nor be a heavy drinker of Guinness to thoroughly enjoy _FW_ (but it helps) 🇮🇪 😎 ☘
There's no right answer really. Characters met in _Dubliners_ show up in _Portrait_ and _Ulysses_ though not in a plot-spoiler way. FW is its own thing really.
@bighardbooks770 No? I read it though.
@bighardbooks770 Weird - I can see it in Studio but not on here.
👆 Wise words
That can only be Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners singing Finnegans Wake...
@KatJack-vl8xj Indeed it is - marvellous
So Finnegan's Wake is the OG multiverse novel?
You know it. I fully expect Jerry Cornelius to show up.
It sounds like a lot of fun, I look forward to hearing about it. Thanks for solving (for me) that titular apostrophe riddle. 🎉
I meant to say - apostrophe in the song title as it's about the wake of a Finnegan (rather bathetically called Tim.)
LOTS OF FUN AT FINNEGANS WAKE! OY!
Wonderful, Roy! You are making this sound like quite the fun adventure. I almost feel ready...Thanks for this terrific intro!
I'm sure it will have its moments!
Brilliant! What a great, well-thought-out first video regarding the _FW_ Group 🇮🇪 I'll make my announcement video ASAP. I am so psyched to get I to this w others. Thanks, so much, Roy, for kicking it off ☘ I adore (and have) Joseph Campbell's _Skeleton Key,_ as well as some RAW (Robt Anton Wilson) books 🎉
Cheers Allen!
For anyone wanting to hear them read aloud, I’d recommend Simon Stanhope at Bitesize Audio. 👍🏼
Being a bit of a hard-core film buff, this is right up my ally. I have a rather sizable collection of books on films, novelizations, film magazines. I still have my textbooks from the film class I took in college. I look forward to your videos on this.
This book destroyed many lives. And sadly people are still following the bad advice the book promotes.
Fantastic announcement, weirdly I just picked up 4 sided triangle (not for FF though)
@@backawayfromthedonkey Wow! Synchronicity City!
Beautiful Dr Jennie as always. Lovely poem, lovely reading. Enjoy your chat afterwards too 😊
Barbara Payton's biography, Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye, also reveals her many good qualities, including her immense generosity and talent in home decorating, gourmet cooking, furniture reupholstering, and poetry. Barbara deserves to be remembered for her strengths, as well as her many problems and failures, and I hope you will find she was a worthwhile human being who is still loved by her surviving family members and friends.
@@jod6cindy Excellent - I'm really looking forward to reading it.
So apt, it's heartbreaking. Enjoyed your touching reading, Jennie, and discussion with @royreadsanything. Congrats on your Paxy!🎉
💙💙💙
I’m hoping for “I am not ashamed!” Fingers crossed 🤞
Love you, Dr. Jennie! I wish we could ring out the wild bells here in America, but unfortunately 😞
I love hearing Dr. Jennie read poetry no matter the subject. ❤
I've only heard the phrase "Ring out wild bells" referred to. Nice to hear the actual poem. And how great to get the Paxy Award for poetry!.
Actually, I thought you looked like Popeye in the thumbnail... And here I thought you were going to do Greta Garbo. I never heard of Barbara Payton. (I am a fan of old movies, just not B movies:)) Amazing that you could find so much material for tie-ins. I have several books to choose from -- on writers in Hollywood;, costume design in the movies; auto/biographies of Lillian Gish, Theda Bara, Frances Marion, Buster Keaton, Jeanne Moreau, Peter O'Toole; and Vivien Leigh & Laurence Olivier; and of course several books made into film such as those by Patricia Highsmith, Daphne du Maurier, Chandler, Hammet, Cornell Woolrich, Dorothy B. Hughes, Hemingway, Agatha Christie, etc.
What a laser-like focus for your February project!
Awesomely done, Dr Jennie! While I listened to you reading, the 9 p.m. bell started ringing from the St. James Catholic Church campanile about half a mile from where I'm living. Congratulations on the award! Well deserved.
People may think that was an accident, but it wasn't. Ron wanted to be seen!
He's flying at me!
Sounds fun. I'll read one or two books for prompt 1 and maybe something for another prompt
This sounds like a lot of fun!
Maybe I should put off my BACK TO THE FUTURE novelizations until Feb... 1:47
Sounds fun, maybe I'll fit it around Febregency.
Happy New Year!!
I saw Annie's announcement too, and I've got a book lined up for Filmtastic February.
Excellent!
This sounds fun, I’ll have to see what I can get into.
@@fiberartsyreads Awesome!
Best wishes for 2025. Lovely gifts on show especially those from Dave Breszki
@baggyhi-fi8628 Thanks - hope you have a great 2025
Im going to look into getting that Pulp Tarot deck. I have similar feelings as Dr Jenny about how useful they are and this deck calls to me. 😊
@DanielsBibliophagy It's a nice deck, inventive throughout, built on the archetypal frame of the Ryder Waite. Nice to hear from you, hope this is a decent year for you.
What a lovely collection of gifts. Dr Jennie you look fabulous in that mask. I wish you both a fabulous 2025 😊
@RaynorReadsStuff Cheers Debs, Happy New Year to you and yours
Thanks very much, Debs. I do love the mask - defo my favourite one so far 😊
Dave Brzeski . . . hmmm . . . has anyone ever spotted Dave and Santa in the same room at the same time? Hmmm. I absolutely understand Dr. Jennie's fascination with pencils. Whenever I enter an office supply store and go along the aisles, I imagine all the creating that could be done with those pristine pens and pencils and blank books. Very nice gifts! Thanks to you lovely people for kindly sharing your Christmas (and Happy Birthday!) with us.
Jilly has a few tarot decks. Not that many really. Under 150!
Brilliant! Unfortunately, I don't have room for a proper big collection, so I just get the ones that look interesting to work with 😊
I'm catching up on videos and just wanted to say I love that you are going to read Sweet Valley High. The series you picked is wonderfully bonkers in the best ways possible! I read them when they came out even though I had 'aged out' of the series at that point. I couldn't resist.
Oh great! I have a smattering of others now - 1 for the origin story, 84 for the cover, tje Prom Thriller series, some Christmas ones including an SVU
Happy New Year to you both. Never thought I’d be looking up the history of a specific pencil..
@@GenreBooks23 😅😅😅
John Steinbeck was a big fan of the Blackwing, apparently.
@ oh, now I remember reading about his writing method, and how he would sharpen a bunch of pencils each morning to be ready, but if it ever mentioned the pencil “model”, then I had forgotten. They look great. I wish you well in using them!
😊
