This past week I linked up with some friends to build this awesome DIY pond down in Florida! It was a lot of fun and I think the results are incredible. Although we worked together, I think this could easily be done as a solo operation or with a different group of people. I want to know what you think, though. Let me know in the comments!
@SerpaDesign Tanner, you set the standards on building outstanding water features/ habitats, for all manner of creatures! This is now my favorite build- of anyone's ever. Until you do the next!🤣 Keep up the good work dear!
Incredible vision, design and build. Amazing memories, friendships and definitely laughs! I will enjoy this for years to come! Thank you endlessly Dan, Greg, Nate and Tanner.
It's so awesome that people are flying you and a film crew (welcome Nate) to do installations. Maybe you'll do something at a botanical garden, aquarium, or zoo one day.
TANNER. NO WAY. I actually am in the process of building a pond for my painted turtles out of two stock tanks! One is buried and the other small one will be above with a spillway!! Im so excited to watch this because I've been on my own for the whole process so far. This will be a great way to get ideas and some instruction for my project! My bigger pond is already buried, and im getting the pump set up for the spillway one right now.. just not sure how to make sure it spill correctly yet. Ive never found a video so unexpectedly relevant haha, thanks for making this!!
Sounds like someone got their groove back ;) What a great build; this project in particular really feels like one of your miniature manufactured landscape terrarium builds scaled up to the human aspect ratio, or I suppose in this case turtle aspect ratio. The channel has come a long way, I would include SerpaDesign on a list of replacements to broadcast programs on networks such as HGTV. I'm so glad you are able to showcase this talent you have been developing throughout your life, and that you genuinely want to share not just the content of your creations, but the knowledge and experience you have devoted so much of your time and self in pursuit of. Para-socialism goes both ways; I enjoy your channel because of what you choose to present, and 'chat' can be a hive-mind of self-absorbed individual demands, finding and maintaining a healthy balance is incredibly difficult, I think you're handling it well but hey, don't forget to breathe sometimes. Take care and peace Serpa-Dude.
1:04 felling a tree with a bunch of competent and handy folks and it still almost hits two people. From my own experience and hearing from others, it never ceases to amaze me how hard it is to fell a tree safely.
Even though i have no idea about landscaping or building ponds I still love watching all of these videos its just so calming and onistly makes me learn 1 or 2 things each video
Wow quite a few of those moments looked hernia-inducing. I hope everyone is okay (albeit possibly nothing more than a bit sore with a few scrapes surely) and the whole thing turned out beautifully as always!
Long time subscriber but haven't comented that much. It make me so happy to see you building bog filters. Totally in line with nature. I spend a lot of time getting koi keepers to understand how awsome they are for pristine water quality. Your execution of it is as expectet. Great work Tanner!
I really appreciate your speaking about difficulties, as well as various ways of solving problems. "Incredible stump". Indeed! Your imagination never ceases to amaze me.
OMG, my favorite people all in a video .. I can't wait 🍿!! I need to find some tubs like this for my above ground pond, I'm trying to my make for our 1 turtle 🥰🐢! This looks amazing 🤩!!
Tanner, your channel is a gift. You have inspired hundreds if not thousands of people to develope a passion for landscaping and terrerium building and you teach good, sustainable values at that. Because of your work I have been inspired to build a pond and eventually a cohesive, healthy landscape in my currently shabby back yard. I have been watching your videos and many others and have been deep in my notebooks planning every detail. I will dedicate my pond to you when its done!
This pond is really beautiful. I enjoyed watching Dan's video and Greg's preview video too, I appreciate getting to know Charlie a little bit through your videos. Thank you.
Im really excited to see this. I have a pond I built when I moved in and it has a little waterfall with a pump in the bottom of the pond. I have to constanly clean the pump so I want to enlarge the pond and incorporate a bog. This helped me envision it better and gives me motivation. As always I love your content.
Inspiring video. I am just starting almost from scratch to landscape my entire yard. I had planned on taking advantage of a shady corner for a woodland garden. From your example, I see I need a water feature.
It's crazy that during construction these ponds look terrible but at some point everything comes together and they end up quite easy on the eyes. Great job, the finished product is so far removed from the stock ponds used. A great demonstration of your skills!
Wow you really can make something out of anything!! I am convinced of that... I could only wish to be half as smart, talented, and gifted as you!! 10 out of 10 🌟
The result is really beautiful! Watching the whole process from start to finish is very informative and inspiring. You all did a great job, even the turtles approve!
I love how this turned out! You're right, I would have no idea this was made of stock ponds :0 Also, the editing on this video is amazing. I really love the pacing of everything.
I am getting ready to build a indoor massive enclosure for my dwarf caiman. Thinking about doing a big filter for his pond but not sure if I'll go this route or just use a canister filter. Keep changing it around but for sure a 2' waterfall is part of the design. About 15 years ago for my chameleon I build a 2'x2'x4' cage with a 2'x4' complete waterfall on the one side what I had Halloween crabs in the bottom that played in the sandbox and reservoir.
Oh my goodness you are just so talented in what you love. A true Master artist in your own field. I have never watched one of your videos that didn’t make me want exactly what I just seen thank you so much Tanner. This was just Beautiful
Oh to be an animal owned by tanner. The plants really bring everything together for me, everything seems so bare and sparse until all the green is added. Not to mention the colorful rocks and darker mulch!
So interesting and amazing to watch. Thank you for sharing this collaboration. I’ve always said when you’re doing what you love, it isn’t work. It’s obvious you all are doing what you love.
@@charlie_moorcroft I live in Palmetto. I've been to the outside edge of the Everglades. Next time, I'm going to explore because that does sound so fun!! ☺️
Lime stone also keeps the ph from dropping, high Ph in the beginning of a pond build, but later it will be crashing and the limestone is awesome to counteract that drop.
😎 awesome build and nice again. I hope you can make another naturalistic diy pond that's fixed on a conncrete wall and with high and tiered waterfall...
I just saw Dan's video and was so excited to see you in it because I knew you going to make a stuningly beautiful design and detailed video on the process. THis was so cool and gives me some cool ideas for my turtle pond.
I got to admit I was a little skeptical when I saw the ponds you were working with prior to starting. Boy was I wrong, it looks amazing! Well done fellas!!
*This is AWESOME. You can no doubt get away with having longer videos though! your content is amazing and I'm sure we would all love to see more detail*
Semi exotic waterfowl, gamebirds and doves look fantastic in setups like this, as well, plants can be a bit more tricky and the have to be full enclosed.
Very beautiful! I’ve built a few turtle ponds. I wish I had used more logs. I focused on rocks! Beautiful rocks! I love them. We buy them by the pound or pallet here! But now that I’m doing my own yard…LOGS and rocks!
what a terrific experience. After having to dismantle your own pond I'm sure this went a great way towards filling that mental space for you. Lucky us for being able to come along in the journey.
This is incredible! Insane! So beautiful! What a wonderful piece of art - and I'm so happy to hear the turtles adapted to it just in the blink of an eye. Great work, Tanner! :) Great work, all of you.
Beautiful build!!! I hope one day to be able to build something similar when we are not Renting. Please get footage of the pair in the future if you can!! We'd love to see them in the cleared up established pond
Looks fabulous! I hope as you continue to do more builds here in Florida, though, you'll consider working with native plant species! There are a lot of incredible native plant nurseries worth discovering. Even in a contained setting like the Turtle Haven, it bums me out to see you using water hyacinth -- yes, it's beautiful, especially in bloom, but it's also a menace to our precious waterways.
@@charlie_moorcroft Thanks for your reply! I'm sure y'all are knowledgeable and careful about what you add to your environments, and that you keep them under control. I also worry that people watching this content to inspire their own pond builds won't do their research. I know so many enthusiastic gardeners in Florida who introduce gorgeous tropical invasives to their neighborhoods without thinking. The philodendrons are innocent enough, but if you're going to use something ecologically dangerous in your builds for UA-cam like hyacinth, I hope you'll consider letting folks know!
@@aedecarlis yes. I am very responsible with it. With that said, that horse has already left the barn and there is water lettuce and water hyacinth running rampant in South Florida. I am very careful what we plant and I constantly fight things like Brazilian pepper which does tons of damage down here.
@@charlie_moorcroft yeah. I'm thinking about joining some water lettuce roundups at the Ichetucknee this year - they're organizing them once a month now. Thanks again! I trust what y'all are doing totally, just think a bit more info in the video content could be informative for folks not (yet!) paying attention to this stuff! 💕🌱 Thanks again!
If you look at the pond Tanner built with what looks to be a planter from Costco (I say this because I had bought my lookalike at Costco the year before), mine holds 30 gallons and has vining plants doing all the filter work. Zero electricity in mine, and going strong since 2019/2020 (around the beginning of covid). I didn't manage to catch all the endlers last year, and they populated the pond this spring once temps got back up over 60° F.
Love, love, love the build!! Aaaand the entire team working together! I can see everyone is having fun, and the two turtles enjoying this new habitat. Awesome job, as always!
