I’ve done 2 ponds, one fairly large, so I know the time invested in creating a good design. You’ve done a bang up job with this one and that budget is quite impressive as well.

@@Ozponds I looked at Serpa design's channel and I can't remember the name of the other one, but theirs (while good-- I don't think I have the talent to do it, even after watching it), aren't as natural looking as yours. Do you make ponds for others? If not, you should look into a business of the sort.
Thank pierce. I don’t make ponds for a living. I thought I wanted to but the more I meet with people around my ponds the more I enjoyed talking to them about my DIY filters rather than selling the expensive equipment. So I started the channel so people not just wealthy people could build their own piece of pond paradise.
@@Ozponds That's good stuff, but there are those like myself who would not mind paying you to do the work, especially considering that the material won't cost as much with your methods. I can probably say I'd try it, but the likelihood of me achieving the result I'm looking for would be slim to none 😅

Nice pond, very natural looking. I'm in Adelaide and couldn't buy waterfall foam so used cement. Same sort of bio filter but I jet the water into a funnel to pick up oxygen to increase good bacteria before going down to the T piece which then goes to a bog then back to the pond via a waterfall. Careful with the scoria though, it can cut the liner, I used small river pebble. I'm on my 9th pond now, 40 years, but already designing the next one it's so addictive. Ponds on a budget are the most satisfying keep up the good work.
Beautiful pond mate! Really turned out looking fantastic, especially for that price! I currently run a fish room but am starting to get the itch to build a pond in my backyard, so this is perfect to see. Gives me confidence to DIY rather than purchasing an expensive "pond kit". We have a recycle center. They have huge pieces of pond liner that were used for short term water holding projects. Great condition. They want about 100 bucks for the same size liner.

I’m doing my pond myself to. I’m going to do a little bit at a time as I can afford it. Right now my pond is a tarp in a hole with a $200 filtration system lol. I have 3 small koi and a few small goldfish. For a pond my size it would cost as much as my house to put in by a professional. I used a 20 foot by 20 foot tarp as a temporary liner in mine. Yours turned out awesome.
@@Ozponds I haven’t noticed any water loss. But I used to replace the tarp in my old pond every couple of years bc it would start to get a little brittle in the sun.

That is a great idea, putting flow line inside of the liner. I have a 15 year old pond that uses rocks for a filter and it is losing water too much I am deciding what are my options to keep a water feature but it won't use that up flow rock filter or underground water plumbing. Quite too old to go through all this stuff again. To be honest ponds are a real pain.🦇
You’re crazy! This pond is hardly any maintenance. But it depends how you design them and what you expect. I’m lazy but I love ponds so I needed to find ways to keep them easy.

I’m not the best to comment on winterizing a pond, it doesn’t freeze where I live. That said there are plenty of people with beautiful koi ponds in what I consider very cold climates. I hope one day you get your dream pond. 🤞
I’ve probably only watched every video 3 times 😂. I got to experience pondomonium online last year that was cool and they also provided online training that was awesome. I was planning to start a little side hustle and become a CAC. I like most aquascape products and the philosophy is spot on. It’s just quite expensive.

Again it all depends on the type of fish, climate, how much you’ll feed. That’s why I make videos to try and help you make an informed decision. There’s no precise number it’s nature, there’s many variables. Start small.
Lots of great ideas, thank you. I’m just not clear about the barrel filled with rocks acting as a filter. Wouldn’t the small suspended particles just flow through freely? Does it ever get clogged and need to get cleaned?

Sir one question i have, beside gold fish,shubamkins and koi's ..which other fishes we can keep in outdoor ponds so that in winters also they can survive easily. I want to make a community fish pond, with different types of fish. But they can bare cold also around 8degree Celsius. Thank you very much.
Those are the sorts of temperatures my ponds experience even slightly colder. I keep Southern Pygmy perch, Murray river rainbow fish, White Cloud Mountain minnows, silver perch and goldfish/ shubunkins all in outdoor ponds.
Please do a video where you show the whole process. For example, the piping, gluing and positions of pipes, filling filters with rocks, how you positioned and connected the lighting, putting in the beneficial bacteria or algeacide etc. Nor everyone is able to fill in the gaps 😑 Thanks
I’m just a hobbyist. It takes a long time to make an edit a simple video (at least for me anyway). I have over 100 videos, some of them should help fill in those gaps 👍

Thanks Wendy 😊. I’m not sure if the noise bothers the fish. I can’t hear any noise but maybe they can. You can have the pumps outside the pond, you just need a bulkhead fitting to create a water tight seal through the liner. Alternatively you could use a pool pump but these are not as energy efficient as submersibles.
The elbow fitting attached to the flush valve actually faces down. Perhaps I just used some of the footage during construction, but good pick up. Yes you want the flush out to remove as much water and muck as possible. So it should be facing down.
This looks great! I wonder if the pumps would be strong enough to filter out Capybara waste? I've been looking to build a pond for my future Capybaras I'm planning to add to my Farm next year.
I had to look up what a Capybara was. What a cool looking animal. So yes looks like you’ll be dealing with a lot of waste. You’ll definitely want a lot more flow than this pond has. I want to hear more about this build 👍

I'm looking to build a larger pond that has shallow and a deeper end for them to fully submerge if they wish,Capybara's are partly Aquatic and adore water. So I've been brainstorming ideas since I want to give them the best setup I can but maybe not breaking the bank if I can help it lol
Solar pumps are still no good for running a decent filtration system. I use them to help with circulation. If you were going to create something similar with solar pumps I would configure the pond as if there were no pumps (more plants, false bottom). That way the pond isn’t reliant on the pump for filtration, because it won’t be running at least 50% of the time.
@@Ozponds thanks! I will try a solar pump with battery backup. They're supposed to power the pump up to 4h after sunset. A decent sized bog filter will be a must. I'll let you know once I got my pond up and running! :)

I have a prediction, that you end up having koi pond someday. Like me I started from aquarium when I was a kid and end up to a koi pond for 12yrs now.

Depends where you live. Rice fish, goldfish, guppies, white clouds all breed really easy in a pond like this.

I think you can do it just make sure you have lots of flow. That will keep the waste suspended and then it will be more easily captured by the filter.

it's a beautiful pond ! Great job! I wonder if one could use a solar powered pump??
Solar pumps are still no good for running a decent filtration system. I use them to help with circulation. If you were going to create something similar with solar pumps I would configure the pond as if there were no pumps (more plants, false bottom). That way the pond isn’t reliant on the pump for filtration, because it won’t be running at least 50% of the time.
@@Ozponds thanks! I will try a solar pump with battery backup. They're supposed to power the pump up to 4h after sunset. A decent sized bog filter will be a must. I'll let you know once I got my pond up and running! :)
