I never thought about how much more difficult it would be to be far away from suppliers. I’m so glad that I’m only a few minutes away from all of them.
Hey, I know you through UA-cam. Can you come to Texas when I need help? Just Kidding. Man, your videos are addictive. My wife asks me how I sit watch this. “It’s a guy thing” I tell her 😂 Good Job.
It is good to see you handle that in a calm way and not loose it over some incompetent persons actions. I really enjoy all your videos and look forward to see many many more.
Even if the hired help has a high school diploma, they don't seem to feel the need to do the job right. Probably due to years of receiving participation awards (awards for just doing their jobs).
In the old days, before everything was computerized, we had an appliance parts store in the area. That was so nice. They're mostly gone now or you have to drive for an hour or more. Everything is shipped and you have to wait.
I miss the days when you did not need to slap some account paper down and you could just buy parts as anyone. Today stuff like HVAC to roofing materials is hidden behind government requirements, licenses, contractors etc. Greatly limited the market and dropped competition.
I was in the same position earlier this year but with a txv for r22 when I needed a 410a from now on no matter the part I check it before leaving the parts house and or ordering parts
This has happened to just about every mechanic I’ve ever know Curtis and the other guys who say this has never happened are liars lol. But you would Trane would know the difference between a blower motor and a condenser motor, the cap is forgivable.👍👍🇨🇦
Whether at the supplier desk or the company mail box, I always check. I've been burned too many times by the efforts of another person in a building too far away for me to see them to trust that it will be correct. I write NOTHING down. I do what you demonstrated: photograph the rating plate and order from the manufacture (Who should know first).
14:20 - As someone whose knowledge of HVAC comes almost exclusively from four UA-cam channels, even I can tell that's a blower motor. 🤦♂ As far as I'm aware, you can safely run a higher microfarad rating, but NOT lower. I've gotten so many incorrect, used, or defective parts from Auto Parts Box Stores that I refuse to buy from them unless I need that part immediately - and I look up the part number myself, walk in and tell them I need that exact part number. Otherwise, I order online. Advance Auto and AutoZone won't reimburse me for wasted gas/time (even when the same refurbished part fails in less than a week, many times over the course of several months), and shipping from Rock Auto to my house is faster than getting things to the local Napa store from the warehouse twenty-five minutes away.
Well it happens, it is what it is. Just roll with the punches and keep on rolling. Trane is not what it use to be, but that is an older one, so it should be a good one.
I would also check that charge again. probably has a txv, measure your subcooling and bet its low. if its low the condenser will run more than usual and cause fan motor to go out early.
You're already took the fan out😊 take a picture of that fan motor take a picture of that capacitor when you call in for the warranty if you double check with them what they should ship to you we don't accept anything without opening the box to verify that they ship the right item if not we just sent it back
My guess is the packing slip and label was not matched to the proper box. I’ve gotten a GoPro shipped to me when I ordered a laptop. Called and got the laptop but I could not get them to take the GoPro back.
Question with a warranty how much is one expected to pay for Reason I’m asking is my unit 1 years old need a capacitor they said under warranty but my cost still $200 of course I politely ask them to leave just bought one myself for $20
I just fixed my 75 year old neighbors AC unit, bad cap, they wanted $225 to do a part swap. I also cleaned the coils. $22.50 for the cap RETAIL. She made me some of the best fried chicken in the world!
You dont have a local supplier you can get a capacitor from? I know youre dealing with a warranty issue, but i'd find a HVAC supplier or even grainger and get the correct capacitor and send that one back or keep it in case i run into another unit that needs a capacitor with a similar rating. Id rather tie up $20-30 in a capacitor on the truck than wait several days on the next job because i dont have the capacitor. The fan motor is totally different, i cant see keeping a $200+ fan motor unless i was changing out a lot of them.
Do the heat pumps with a variable speed fan motor and compressor use those capacitors too since they don't start at full speed? Also do you like those units better than the ones that just run at full speed all the time?
Trane sucks big time. I ordered a ECM fan motor the other day for a Trane A/C and it was the wrong motor, the shaft wasn't long enough. So called Trane and they asked what the motor model # was and they said that model is listed wrong on the master list that is on the internet. Anyway, Trane said they have 15,000 incoming and have like 2000 on back order. Luckily supply house had the motor in stock, the correct one.
Yip as a mechanic allways check your parts. In fact take pictures and make sure they match before you go back to the jobsite. Saves your paycheck everytime.
I was always told you can go higher in the voltage and capacitance but not lower. I have a higher start capacitor in my air compressor without any issues...
Wife: Whatcha doing? Me: Watching UA-cam video. Wife: Oh. Your bush-crafting show? Me: No. Wife: Your electronics show? Me: No. Wife: Your Old-Time radio show? Me: No. Wife: Your BBQ show? Me: No. Wife: Well!!?? What are you watching. Me: My HVAC Guy show. Wife: So, how’s Curtis doing? Me: Now wait just a second… And the laughing and chasing her around the house begins… 😂😂
As an aspiring HVAC dude ... can you charge them (Trane) twice for all that labor or do you have to eat it for not checking first? Also, why didn't you go ahead an hit the coils with a hose?
Frustrating. Bored at my desk job, thinking "Oh great, I can watch Curtis fix something (and learn a little too);" but you got run over by Trane. Oh well.
A larger MFD will work as long as it is not lower than rated. I have done that many times without a call back. That blower motor is just unacceptable though. I do understand your frustration especially since it's under warranty. Desk Jockey's need to be in the field 1st to truly understand what we techs deal with.
Confucius say measure twice cut once these outlets are always pathetic you have to be precise with the part number or they just send you crap I would ask to speak to the owner manager and boycott there pathetic company they’ll get the message when there profit drops like a rock then again i’ve you call and ask the for parts in generalities not knowing the correct PN EXACTLY so i feel ya it sucks sometimes these desk jockey don’t know what there doing?😢😢😢😢
What happened here is what I am seeing with everything. Nobody listens any more, or seems to care about their job. Ever see how many drug commercials are on TV nowadays?
Wait a minute. The power is still live, he opened the disconnect box but it is still connected, he is saying the unit could come on any second and yet he has his bare fingers all over the wires? Is this not a concern?
Should have been over at the two minute mark when there was "nothing right away ". For all you know, a chestnut could have felt in there and got ejected out and made a dinging sound ...
moral of that story is make sure got right parts before taking unit apart. been there done that.
You got that right.
This happens more often than you think, Always check your parts before you start removing work.
I never thought about how much more difficult it would be to be far away from suppliers. I’m so glad that I’m only a few minutes away from all of them.

My wife asked the same! But I learn from other tech vids of things I could do differently out in the field
I know right. I’m just a few hours north east of Curtis!! Be hella service fee!! 😂😂
I love to watch other people work.
It stinks that they sent the wrong parts, but on the bright side, it made a very good video👍👍👍
It is good to see you handle that in a calm way and not loose it over some incompetent persons actions. I really enjoy all your videos and look forward to see many many more.
That's the help they hire
I don't doubt that any, but we all make mistakes.
Even if the hired help has a high school diploma, they don't seem to feel the need to do the job right. Probably due to years of receiving participation awards (awards for just doing their jobs).
That fan guard makes a great reverb. ;-)

Best exit music on UA-cam!!
I've been there and done that more than once. One day, I'll learn to check the parts I ordered before I tear a unit apart 😂
Nice work Curtis. Gotta love the supply houses.
Been there and done that but any way you slice it it’s pure frustration! Messes up the schedule at best
Just like going through a fast food drive thru. Check your order before you drive off!!
I know we only have to give you a $200 dollar warranty motor but here take this $2000 dollar motor instead😎
Should've checked the new parts before you started. I always checked the parts before hand.
Great real world scenario. Really enjoy your videos!
This has happened to just about every mechanic I’ve ever know Curtis and the other guys who say this has never happened are liars lol. But you would Trane would know the difference between a blower motor and a condenser motor, the cap is forgivable.👍👍🇨🇦

Good attitude great hvac guy.
Love your work.
Thank you!
getting the wrong components is a nationwide issue with trane , especially the last 3-4 years …
nationwide, wow, that's not good
Sounds like they’ve been derailed….
Shows the importance of a good distributor!

That was unfortunate Curtis, better luck with the new parts 🤔 Au

Always put eyeballs on new parts before you start the job!!!

I have a call tomorrow. Customer states that the AC making loud noise upon start up. Any tips.
Do like Curtis did in this video. Check the caps and the motor.
@@jthonnI did. It was the bracket was vibrating. So I put rubber on each Conor
Thank you for your videos, questions how the warranty works can you explain it? Thanks you
System is nine years old, but was registered, so it has a 10 year parts warranty. Only parts, not labor
Thanks for the great videos. Do you have or use a megohmmeter for testing?
Yes. Simple Supco one
Welcome to my world also.
I always assume every order is messed up. Inspect what you expect.

Yes sir that’s the best pay when someone cooks for ya
They are getting the labor charge. Some co.'s will cover labor for x amount of time if you buy from them.
@@jthonn
Well that’s what I was thinking labor charge but $200 for cap under warranty seems sorta outrageous
@@rickbarnett9729 Holy cow, I must agree, also just being a year old. Outrageous for lack of a better word.
Do you ever something like tri Flo to lube the motors.
I would be lying if I said I never did that, but they are oil free motors.

Do you have a follow up to this?

So just because we can't duplicate the issue and the unit is under warranty we go around swapping out random parts ?
Yip as a mechanic allways check your parts. In fact take pictures and make sure they match before you go back to the jobsite. Saves your paycheck everytime.
That fan looks like its spinning the wrong way probably the camera.

betting most techs saw $$$'s. just throw a truck stock universal on, and keep the ecm blower

Not a good idea it’s sized for reason.
A mechanic like,not having a 1/4 825,or a 40-7.5, que pasa.
The lesson is, don’t buy a Trane😎
