- Recorded at Up All Night, Irvington, New Jersey, 27th May 1984.
Maybe a wee bit cheeky to say complete soundboard cause the last song "New Gold Dream" has been patched on from the FM Broadcast recording. It ends quickly with no audience reaction and that's a pity cause the band and audience were having a blast that night! You'll hear a few Celtic FC fans having a great time! Also the song "King Is White..." cuts off a few seconds short. Not much though! Apart from those two minor quibbles this is an amazing recording from an amazing night.
Once again many thanks to Mike for this brilliant recording. 👍

Way ahead, Music from another planet. Best Band from the 80s and also one of the best live Bands back then, best time of my life. Thank you guys
I was a 22 year old pup in the audience for this show. Great to be able to listen to it after all these years.
the bass line in book of brilliant things is out of this world live
The Derek Forbes, Mel Gaynor years saw some of the best gigs in the history of all music. Old enough to know what they're doing, young enough to play with energy and a desire to keep pushing the envelope. The improvement from 1982 when Mel first played to this gig is massive. Jim goes from awkward, angular 'arty' front man to a man possessed, powered by the music the band creates to lift him to higher states.
No band, apart from U2 start a gig at such high energy and keep building and building.
We knew they were great at the time but 35 years on we now realise how great because no band since has ever come close to being so ground breaking.
Well said!! 👍
so well said ... ❤
Together with Charlie B. and Michael Mc Neil ( synth ) the best band !!!!!
Yep… agree
Yes,its true...
I first saw these live in 1986 at Milton Keynes bowl. They were unbelievably brilliant then and they still are 35 years later. Simply brilliant
Golden years😊❤
That was definitely the best line up in Simple Minds history. Their sound, the pure energy never was better. I always missed Michael, Derek and Mel. The actually line up are not my Simple Minds anymore.
They were in their 20's... they are 60+... even with the same line up they would have moved on to something else like every band. Saw them multiple times over the last 20 years and it's just a new musical experience. I enjoy this as much as I enjoyed the madness and youth of the 80's
That is correct all we ask for is this lineup Gaynor , Forbes , Burchill , McNeil ,, Kerr
Derek and Mel was the best rythm section
Gaynor and Forbes were amazing and important. But the biggest loss was Michael Mc Neil. Not the same Band anymore but still fantastic.
Derek Forbes est un bassiste de très haut niveau !
agree...
Yes😊
He is realy good play bass😊❤
No Derek Forbes, no Michael MacNeil, no Simple Minds
Old simple minds are the best
I love this recording, containing my all time favorite live version of King is White. Simply magic.
East At Easter is my favourite 👍
So many favourites from this concert for me!! 😉👍
King is White and in the Crowd is outstanding in this fantastic legendary live recording at Irvington '84
And the combined intro of Charlie and Derek ...
No words can even fit to describe this 100% mindblowing performance.
Goosebumps every theme again and again, over and over.
🙏
What a band,my heart belongs to them....
What a great concert, a band at the top of their game ❤
Yes !! So True ! The songs as well as Lillywhites Production on Sparkle made it so Classic ... Tho this concert they really capture the vibe of that Album .. incredible really !! Like the 60s.. it was the music that made the 80s so Awesome .. Saw so many bands back then .. but missed these guys unfortunately then ... But Sparkle will always be one of my faves ( prob wore out a few cassettes of it and my vinyl copy!! 👍👍👏👏🍻🕊️🎆⛈️🌦️☔
"The American" is utter bliss. Absolute class!
QUESTO CONCERTO E' UN CAPOLAVORO GRAZIE
Scotland produced a mega band. absolutely incredible
OMG what a brilliant version of King is white and in the crowd !!!!!!
The synth at the end part of Up On The Catwalk is mesmerizing and what SM should build on.
Side to side stereo! ⚡💥
Playing the Minds on airplay on to proper speakers, thank you A&T for the brilliant share. Take me back to 1984, June 15 at the Hollywood Palladium, this gig filles in many blanks. The American is peak Simple Minds!
Great soundboard recording - the guys are tight as a nut !
This is better than the Barrowlands 84 gig for me.
Hello!!!!!! Wow!!!!! AMAZING SOUND! GREETINGS FROM ARGENTINA, SOUTH AMERICA!!!!! The best band of the world. 😲😉🙋🎶🎵
Hello there Julia! All the best from Perthshire, Scotland. 👋👍🙏
@@ArtAndTalk THANKS!!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU! 💞
What a terrific years, Kids of the 80s! Thanks a lot for sharing this recording! Una band e un concerto fantastico! Hi everybody!
Love this..thanks art and talk. This brilliant concert lifted the depression of another lockdown .
Sorry that England is facing another complete lockdown. UK seems to be run by over-educated idiots that couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery. Test, test, test they were told months ago. Anyway glad you enjoyed this wee concert. Stay safe and all the best! 👍🙏
Many many Thank Yous for posting this Awesome show !! Sooo Good ! 👍👍🎆⛈️🌦️☔🍻.... Btw recently heard a podcast with Charlie and Jim... Learned they dropped Acid a bit in the early days ! No surprise! Much of their music at least up to Sparkle So Magical!
Questi sono i simple minds la migliore band live
Thank you for bringing more and more gems from SM. Cause these uploads I could have the right perspective about this Band.
You're most welcome! The band had an amazing live chemistry from late 1982 - early 1985. I honestly believe they were amongst the very best in the world then. Stay safe and all the best Ricardo! 👍🙏
@@ArtAndTalk Cause unfortunately Mass Media fuck the good things I had this wrong perception that Simple Minds was a kind of one hit Band. But your channel show all the great and big playlist of incredible songs. Im from Brazil, in the 80s we dont have good informations about SM. Só, thanks again.
Awesome...I had seen them in Boston maybe a day or two later on this tour. Never thought I'd be able to hear it again!
Sono i più grandi dal vivo sono i migliori grandi menti semplici
Fantastic🤩👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼‼️
This is great - I have heard some of this on a certain "vault" website but now to finally have it in full.
Brilliant version of "Big Sleep", it should be on "New Gold Dream" album. Incredible energy and a great chemistry between band and an audience. They were deeply inspired here. For me it's the best concert of Simple Minds.❤️🤗
The chemistry and energy of the band is premier league here! 😍👍
@@ArtAndTalk Exactly! This concert must have been a magical, or even transcendental experience for them. They all together played phenomenally and Jim Kerr's vocal skills are spectacular here.
@Green Eyes You are speaking perfectly, about this concert. There's a few more recordings, of them, from this period... but this, really does, capture them, at their best, absolutely.
And You are right... "Big Sleep" could, easily be on NGD album.
I could listen, to this concert, all night... 💖😍
Wow! Thank you, Art & Talk! ❤
Superb show....this is the show I was hoping would have been included on the sparkle box..its definitely better than the Glasgow show they included.
Easter 2019 Glasgow now moved twice due to Covid. Now 31st August 2021. I will be there. Amazing upload. Thanks pal.
Gr8 stage's version
Watta blast to hear this
Thanx to sharing this whit us
Thanks art talk
Thank you for the wonderful job👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼!!...very proud to be a Minds..
Awesome sound
What a cracking start to the weekend. Listening to it now. Cheers for the upload and stitching it all together and thanks to Mike!
Mike did the stitching. He's good with a needle and thread! All the best Matthew! 👍
Nice song❤
King Is White And In The Crowd WOWOWOWOWO !!!!
I feel I only like Simple Minds until 1985… is that crazy?
Don’t you forget about me changed everything….as good as the once upon a time album is Forbes isn’t on it and it’s to commercial.
@@Robcatist You nailed it!
If you like this, try RockPop in Concert, Dortmund 1984 You won’t be disappointed!
Wow
Sweet! interesting intro to new gold dream. ❤
A masterclass in bass playing from Derek Forbes, pick, slap, finger style all played equally brilliantly, the bass tone on this recording is off the scale... thanks so much for this upload
Book of Brilliant Things is just crazy.
"Hail Hail, the Celts are here,
What the hell do we care,
What the hell do we care,
Hail Hail, the Celts are here,
What the hell do we care now." ☺️👍🙏
In ‘84 they seemed to drop Hunter and the Hunted I wonder why when it’s one of their best songs..🤔
bit slow for live energy probably
Formidable concert.
En 1984, ils n'étaient pas trop connus en France (c'est "don't you" que les a lancé en 1985.
Hello Art&Talk😊
Hi there Bojan! I hope you are keeping well? ✌️
@@ArtAndTalk im ok
what is the intro? A brass band in african chimes??
Too bad none of these incredible concerts from their "Tour du Monde" (1983/84) were ever released officialy. Otherwise the Frankie goes to Holywood project wouldn't have existed.
hello Art&Talk
@Bojan Vladušič Hi there! 😀👍
@@ArtAndTalk 😊🥱
Hello
💕🌈😘🍕
Pretty good. I think the Werchter and Lyceum gigs from same tour are much better and The Ritz and Edge gigs with McGee in '81 are WAY better.
Ehh, much better?! As for the 1981 gigs, love them but a different time! 😉👍
Arrangiamenti sublimi.. Peccato che ora sembrano una cover band..
In their prime. After Derek was sacked they lost their creativity imo
Wouldn’t say creativity id say originality
@@Robcatist agreed
the original lineup is the only lineup that created this massive and powerful SM sound. Losing their original band members was an absolute mistake imo
@@conradvdp275 listen to Brian's work on boys from Brazil as an example of that
