It is so good to show self-striping for us to understand why it is more pricy (and really underpriced for the amount of work). Have a great Sunday, Helen!
Still so underpriced 🙈. Glad you enjoyed the vlog.
Your warping board is the best model I have seen. I will for sure be diy’ing that style.
Thank you for doing these vlogs, I find them fascinating. It helps to appreciate how much work you put into your business. 😊
Thank you for watching 💜
Wow Helen! So much work. And so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your day with us 💜
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing the warping process and method! Really beautiful yarn🤩
Thank you, I had always wondered how you made stripes in sock yarn, so much extra work for you
Thank you, Helen. Now I understand how stripes are dyed, and how much work it is. Xx
So much work, but they're worth it in the end.
Helen, your work day vlogs are always so informative and I thank you for sharing. ❤ I was amazed by how much manual work goes into it, but not surprised. The colours turned out really nice.
The stripes really are time consuming! But they're so worth it.
Thank you so much for this Helen , I loved this video and it explained so much and it absolutely gives me a new appreciation of how much work goes into hand dying yarn.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
My goodness! Thank you for showing how you dye the self striping yarn. Amazing and so much work. I certainly have even more respect for what you do. I had no idea. I love your yarn colorways.
They're definitely my most labour and time intensive product.
Thank you so much for showing how to dye self striping- it was so interesting.
So glad you enjoyed it.
It is quite fascinating seeing the different elements of the process I would love to learn basic dyeing techniques as I wouldn’t know where to start 🤔 thanks for sharing!
I loved this vlog! I couldn’t even imagine how it was done. And you’re so efficient Thank you!❤
So glad you enjoyed it thank you for watching 💜
I had an idea how dyeing self striping yarn worked and knew how time consuming it is, so it was fascinating to see the process. Thank you so much x
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was so interesting! Such beautiful colors!
Thank you so much!
I love all the colours! I can now see why you can't do big self striping updates, they're very time consuming! Another lovely vlog 😍
It's such a challenge, especially with shows too. But I'm hoping to have a big preorder stripe update early summer seeing as I have no shows in the middle part if the year!
Thank you for sharing your process. Your self striping yarn is always so beautiful, hopefully I can grab myself one on your next shop update. 😍
Thank you 💜
That was very interesting, Helen! 💞
Glad you enjoyed it
Your dyed yarn is beautiful 😊
Great vlog! Love the new colors!
Thanks so much!
Morning Helen love watching this I’m just having a coffee and a quick knit before I go to work I’ve just wound up my Dragon mini skins and I found a shawl pattern to start it’s the paper daisies one so can’t wait for that .I love the Easter coloured self stripe they look gorgeous.I Wish East Anglia was closer to me I think it’s going to be an amazing show.
Ooh I look forward to seeing the shawl you make! I'm so tempted to start a blanket with the minis I saved for myself.
Thank you so much for showing your self striping techniques! I made my own warping board and have dyed up a few striped skeins, but I've always had problems. This helped me so much!
It just takes time and practice (and maths!) You'll get there.
This was so neat to see! Thank you very much for taking the time to show us your process! I’m not a dyer but I’ve been very curious about the process recently so I was excited to see this pop up in my feed this morning 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Oh my those stripes are all gorgeous! That last color combination so reminds me of hydrangea flowers. Stunning! Tell Thom, I’m thinking of him out on strike. It’s not a fun feeling. Good luck! Until next time. Salam wa sa’aadah
Thank you 💜
Yay - I am coming to EAYF this year - I'm looking forward to coming to say hello and hopefully buy some of your lovely stripes! Lets hope there's some left on the Sunday :)
They'll be plenty left on Sunday 🤞 I'm hopefully dyeing enough for the show and a shop update after the show.
Now I understand the warping board - thank you. Also - When I am ‘balling’ up yarn (as opposed to ‘caking’ it, I have tried to make mine as pretty as yours…I will keep trying.
Keep trying it just takes practise. Doing it with stripes helps because each section in the ball has a set length if you change direction at the colour change and that gives you a good feel for how much to wind in each section.
I've wondered about this for a while! Although evidently not enough to look it up 😅 but thank you for sharing your self striping process, really interesting, might look some more up now!
So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
I found this fascinating! During your vlogmas my son asked me what your warping board was, and as I hadn't a clue we were both happy to see this vlog pop up. Your self striping colourways always look so pretty. I've got my eye on one of the Easter ones!
I meant to add that my dad had to go back to work during the eighties as all the strikes meant my parents could no longer afford to eat. I'm hoping for the best possible outcome for you all xx
So glad you enjoyed it 💜
Really enjoyed learning about how you do self stripping. I really love the peacock colours. How about... purple, dark blue, light blue, light green, dark green as an order?🤔 Whatever u decide will look lovely. I love the blue & pinks too.
So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
I made such a mess yesterday doing this. Big tangles. I have a board like yours now, used jars like you did. I went wrong in the washing, my blue bled and bled. Had to wash in at least 10 bins of water, I held it at one end and swished it around and it made a mess. I can’t untangle it. I tied it off way more than I thought I might need because I worried about tangles. Is the answer to be just very very aware of how much you are moving it? The fiber is superwash sock, so it’s not felting together, that’s not the problem😊
So pretty. Great video. I have wanted to know how hand dyers do this!
Thank you! 😊
Your warping process for striping yarn is so great! On the board, I would love to know how you get the yarn that separates and connects the colored sections to do that? Yikes. I just imagine myself in a big tangled mess!!! LOL Is the tying very complicated? Thanks!
It definitely took practise to get it right, but I put a lot of ties in and that keeps things from getting tangled.
