@@tameriajones593 Probably because the tourist boards in both England & Scotland really push their identity and country. Also, the Scottish and English governments are working with a much larger budget, resulting in a more international recognition of their countries. Just ask any foreign tourist, which major cities they visited on their travels. London and Edinburgh come top of the list, Cardiff comes a distant destination. Both England & Scotland are recognised around the world as having their own unique identity, but even though Wales is a separate nation of the United Kingdom, the majority of foreign visitors mistakenly assume Wales is part of England. This is why Wales is a not as popular as England or Scotland
When an English couple of friends got married in Wales, a group from my town in Mexico drove 4 hours to Los Angeles, flew for 16 hours to London, then a couple of hours by train to Newport, then about an hour by car, to be there in the small town for the occasion. This video has flicked a memory switch. I went on a family holiday to North Wales in the summer of 1967. I was seven. We stayed in a cottage up a secluded lane in a village called Cwm-y-Glo, situated at the western end of The Llanberis Pass. I remember it well and have many pleasant memories of those two weeks. My enduring memory was the amount of water; not just in the abundant copious rainfall, but the numerous reservoirs, yet the water was cut off for much of the day. Why? Because there were big black pipes heading towards Manchester and Liverpool. A child's mind is more logical than an adult's and I remember saying to my parents, 'that's not fair.' It still resonates and I can truly understand why the English are not popular in this part of the world. Just a thought.
Thats a problem in parts of the u.s. as well. Here in the southeast Atlanta siphons off huge amounts of water from various rivers and reservoirs. In drought summers lots of small communities have to make drastic conservation efforts to keep the ever expanding atlanta metro monsters taps flowing. It's also severely affected the oyster and other aquaculture industries in the Florida panhandle estuaries bc they depend on a proper mix of fresh water from the rivers mixing with salt water to sustain life. Atlanta uses so much river water from the Chattahoochee and other rivers that it's all but wiped out oyster farming and fishing in these estuaries.

@peace leader I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but just to be safe... no. Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England all form the UK, none of them are provinces (well, except perhaps NI... that's complicated, and I'm not going in to it). There is no such thing as 'England' in terms of political power (i.e. there's no English parliament, only a British parliament containing representatives from the whole UK), so by definition the other three can't be provinces, since a province is a place managed or owned to some degree by an external political power. There is no English political body which is capable of claiming or exerting ownership. However, it is true that England has a much higher population than the other three constituent countries of the UK, so it has more representatives in parliament. This is what people mean when they say things like "England controls the UK" - its not a case of England exerting unfair or undue political power over the other parts of the UK (since, again, there is no political English body capable of exerting that power), its simply that its higher population elects so many MPs that England, taken as a whole, has the most influence over British law. If Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland had a higher population, there'd be more MPs in parliament from those places. In any case, that's why many non-English people feel particularly oppressed or ignored by Westminster (perhaps they even feel like an English province), because their separate national interest doesn't have equal representation in parliament. Obviously, whether you accept that depends on your point of view. Personally, I don''t feel that being English gives me any particular advantage, since I'm more concerned with how many MPs agree with my views, not where they're from. And at the moment, my views are particularly underrepresented in parliament. But that's just my perspective, I'm not saying that separatists and nationalists don't also have a valid point of view.

I live in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia. Both sides of my family settled here in the 1750's from Wales. They even named there town Pembroke. One side was William Williams and the other Jeremiah Solesbury but later became Shrewsbury for reasons no one knows. I'm very proud of my Cymru ancestry. I'll go there and maybe visit some distant family one day!!!
That's interesting, as I went to college in West Virginia at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon and I was told the actual Appalachian Mountains were just east of the border of West Virginia and the actual mountain chain in eastern West Virginia are actually the Blue Ridge Mountains?
Texas Hi-Railer The Blue Ridge Mountains are just a region of the Appalachian Mountain Chain. They had it opposite though. Most of the Blue Ridge Mountains are in "western" Virginia with only a very small amount in West Virginia.
You have to keep in mind West Virginia was part of Virginia untill the American Civil War when it split off. The blue ridge mountain (which is just a section of the Appalachian) is the western side of Virginia, farther west its elevated into the alleghany applachain plateau (mountain country) of west virginia. It is in these two mountain and valley lands where the Scots, Irish, and Welsh settled.
Dan L. My family settled in what is the "New River Valley" where I currently reside as well. I don't know this for sure but I suspect they were coal miners in wales and thus became coal miners in the new country.

People need to remember that the Welsh are the true natives of Britain. We once lived all over Britain apart from the far North ( where the mysterious Picts lived ). We were only pushed West into what is now Wales, because of the invading Germanic tribes ( ancestors of the English ). Wales is a beautiful, romantic place full of great charm and history. I’m from India and I’m from a particular region where we are so connected with Wales. Our alphabets were given to us by a Welsh Missionary, the late Reverend Thomas Jones. We have schools, colleges, hospitals, orphanages, etc named after many Welsh Missionaries. Most of all, we have an Anthem written by John Roberts in our language but with the same tune as the Welsh National Anthem. We owed a lot to the people from this lovely land, Wales.

And now I fancy a go at recent attractions Zipline and Bounce Below.
Thank you Rick, for showing me the underappreciated corners of the world. As a poor American I can only dream of visiting these places. The Welsh Men's Choir has drawn me back to this episode again and again. Always brings a tear or two. Wales ... Lovely people, stunning scenery.
I left Wales 40 years ago., but here in the Denbigh choir I see Dai Bryn singing his heart out! Dai was a leading charge Nurse or Mental Health worker. A larger than life guy. Great to see him still doing it large!
just wow! the beauty of this country took my breath away
Lamiye Maahmudova Thank you for your kind appreciation of my country.
Yes thanks for the amazing comment on where I live, wouldn’t change it for the world. It is a lovely place living in Wales.
The tour guide is very engaging. He brings it to life.
The UK is amazing - so beautiful and history on every corner.
I moved to Argentina 4 years ago and an Expat American with Welsh and German Blood.
There are 5 Welsh Communities is Southern Argentina and they have Welsh Language Schools and have maintained many customs they brought over here 150 years ago.
Cheers to my Welsh Cousins!
Yes, Welsh settlers arrived in Patagonia in the 19th century and descendants speak Welsh, with people from Wales and Patagonia visiting each other.
Wales!
The chapel in Caernarfon has a plaque on it's wall to memorialise the first Welsh settlers in Patagonia who were members of the chapel.
Travis Williams there is a town in England about ten miles from Wales called Shrewsbury.
Wales is such a beautiful country. I live in the U.S., where everything seems to be busy, rushed, and complicated (Common Core). Wales seems like a very calm country, where animals are everywhere and hills are beautiful. Not dull brown with the sound of cars.
The Luoji Person I lived in wales for 2 years
I lived there until I was 2. I don't remember much, jus there where a lot of sheep and mountains
+Coolhand Luke I've lived in Wales all my life. It quite calm, if you go to a English city it's quite frightening, especially if you live in a small town like me you don't get to see a building any taller than 3 storey.
+David Evans Too true, spent most my life in Caernarfon and now i'm studying at the university of Essex. Took me a long time to adjust to the big city.
GwionB9 Exactly, its so fast pace. The city is not for me but my brother loves it.
I loved all of this, like I love all this shows, but the best part for me was watching RS giving Neville his full and complete attention. He let Neville take center stage on his program and I haven't seen many talk show hosts/movie/tv celebs doing anything nearly so respectful. What a truly nice guy.
No doubt this way the best video ever. Though I'm Brazilian Wales is the country of my heart. Congratulations for picturing this wonderful country!
Thank you- that is unusual for a Brazilian to have Wales in his heart
Bom dia, Victor, good to see you again!
@@Kaibigan39 olá. Desculpe, mas não estou lembrando de vc. Vc é do Brasil?
I watch your videos before going to bed as a talisman against nightmares. Have always like your videos even before I see them. I just know that I am going to be in for a little treat. Keep them coming please.
The tour guide has so much energy when speaking, so adorable..
Rick is a wonderful leader in the world of travel but more than that he is a very giving person that is helping his employees out of his own pocket. There are probably not many entrepreneurs doing that today. Bless him. I really miss seeing some new videos and tours by him and his collaborators.
I live in Wales, despite this, I thought this was educational and interesting, Just goes to show you how little (in detail), you know really about the place that you live in. Enjoyed watching, thanks for posting.
Will Ward too busy with your sheep
Hello... can you send pictures of secenry of your country.
I love Welsh!!! I hope the language will keep being taught to all youngsters.
I love Welsh too and would try to learn the language.
Dear Rick, we followed your recommendation and made Conwy the homebase for our week in Wales next summer. Six months to go and already thrilled.
Duolingo has Welsh now! If you enjoy the language, go and learn it for free :) I'm constantly blown away by the gorgeous rhythm and the charming vocabulary. Example: ironing is smwddio (pronounced smoothio), carrots are moron, blue is glas, school is ysgol. Just the best language ever IMHO. Dw i'n mwynhau dysgu Cymraeg!
My mom was from North Wales, llanfair and my mom could only speak Welsh at first when she came to Brum, I may need to go back visit apart of roots, feeling
Proud.❤️
Cornwall is also a Celtic Nation, with its own language, similar to Welsh and Bretton and understood quite well by both nations!
Celtic no , Vales is caucasian people
I'm actually surprised at how much Cornish i can understand. I speak welsh so theyre very similar sure, but its really cool none the less.
Wales is certainly Celtic- land of the ancient Brythonic people, linked to the Cornish and Bretons in Brittany. Historically with darker hair and complexions than the Anglo-Saxons/ English from Germany who invaded Welsh-speaking Britain and called the land they took England
@The505Guys Unfortunately, you guys have become just as anglo as the rest of them. Wiped out by the rich English holiday homes and migrants
@The505Guys That's the exact same for Scotland too, tbh. Cornwall is literally more Celtic than Scotland is.
Really interesting seeing our home region through foreign eyes. Good job!
We spend 2 holydays in Wales and we Love the landscape, the culture and the People. 🏴 Greetings from Germany.
We visited North Wales a few times, their countryside is beautiful and clean, and those castles are very interesting,we all enjoyed holidays in Wales 👍😘!
My great grandfather in the 1880's walked out of a slate mine in North Wales and moved to the United States with his wife and three children stayed in Northeast Ohio where he walked right back into a coil mine had four more children one of whom was my grandfather born 1889 and looking at those men singing was like looking at my own father and his three brothers , they had the look of being Welch all over them
Welsh, not Welch ! Actually I call myself a Cymro & we are Cymry
In 2013 I travelled from Australia to Ireland for a wedding in Cork. It lasted for 3 days. I then went to Wales to recover. It was a gentle place!!
Stavros O'Callacher
Hi do you have Facebook
Very good actors are from Wales. I have always been fascinated, with the History.
It's way too underated
You are so right. I’ve read recently that the Welsh are the true Britons. This has been done by DNA testing.
Absolutely, Picturesque!!! Such a beautiful area in the UK.
I am Welsh! I live near Llandudno
Hello lady... greetings from Pakistan

So beautiful and implanting creation of divinity .
I'm from Snowdonia and I have a brother in Beddgelert, it's a magical place.
My Great great grandfather Owen Jones used to run a public house in Beddgelert.😊😊
Glad To Hear That! I Am From India Too, Could You Please Tell Which Region Are You Talking About?
The introduction of Presbyterian Church to us the Khasi people of Meghalaya comes from Wales😊

As someone who was educated in Wales and grew up a big admirer of both The Beatles and Liverpool Football Club, I can say that I'm in love with this episode!

Best places to visit in Wales: Beddgelert, Llyn Gwynant, Snowdon, Mawddach estuary, Caernarfon, Harlech and Conwy castles, Portmeirion, (Snowdonia generally), Tenby, Bosherston pools, St David's, Elan valley, Rhossili and Worms head, Three Cliffs bay, Castell Coch, Cardiff, Brecon Beacons, Brecon and Monmouth canal, Tintern and Wye valley, Southerndown...so many! And now I fancy a go at recent attractions Zipline and Bounce Below.
0 a1s,
You missed out Llangollen and Beaumaris!
Thank you Rick, for showing me the underappreciated corners of the world. As a poor American I can only dream of visiting these places. It does my heart good to see people who know their heritage and be proud of it! I think most Americans secretly long to know their ancestors and where they come from, looking for a connection that was lost in the diasporas.
I think I'll go to Wales to live and then Greece.
Been to Wales many times over the years.. beautiful and peaceful💕💕💕💕😊
Cymru am Byth. Wales forever. The land of my fathers.
Hey, how are you and the weather there?
11:10Composing poetry to your workmates on a Monday morning. How awesome is that. Love this unique part of Welsh culture. That singing and poetry are manly things is something we could all learn about as to what it means to be a man. Hwyl fawr dych chi.👍🏴
What a peaceful place,,,, people living in a peace in every corner without fear,,,
Lovely to see a video like this about my home region, I live and have grown up my whole life very close to Castell Caernarfon. Very proud of my country and I just wished people would care more for our beautiful nation.

@@sianwarwick633Um, did you catch the fact I'm a tightwad? Only I was just diagnosed with state 3 esophageal cancer so if I survive the treatment, I may be treating myself to some of the places Rick Steves has chronicled.
The turrets were round - more difficult to destroy because there were no corners to knock off - I love learning these kinds of things I didn't know I needed to know! Love the enthusiasm and lovely castle guide, Neville Hortop. Lovely Wales!
I live in Llanfairfechan, a beautiful scenic village, between the sea and the mountains. I visit Llandudno every week, it is only a little further along the coast. Visitors from abroad always rush to England,London to visit. They don’ t seem to realise the beauty and history in Wales.
Rick, I went to Betws-y-Coed and Snowdon just yesterday and watching your video made me want to go back again already! What a great video.
Great, i live in Northwales. Snowdonia national park is a beautiful place and mountain range

Rick has given me years of joy with his shows. Thank you. I might never get to some of these places physically, but you take me there in spirit.
King Edward I was a brute, relentless and cruel,My Welsh ancestors fought valiantly to preserve their independence from England. The original rinces of Wales are Llewellyn the Great and Llewellyn the Last. They are not forgotten.🏴
Welsh will always be in.
He left behind some cool castles!
4:44 I love this guy, this guy is pro, knows this place like the back of his hand, I bet he's been doing tours for years. I grew up in Llandudno, I went to Tudno and Craig Y Don, I miss that place so much, such amazing memories, such great friends, such a beautiful town, with amazing people. Scotland is as much Nordic as Celtic.
Scotland is only half Celtic, as it was a union between the Kingdom of the Picts (who were Celtic) and the Saxons around modern-day Edinburg (obviously English speakers, possibly the Kingdom of Alt Clut?)
I loved Wales. Would like to go back again.
