16:38 Chronologically the first human assimilation happened years ago when the phoenix made warp. The Enterprise-E I believe a male engineer followed by a female engineer.
I can go more nerdy than thaat about them. Those actors were originally in the game "BORG", and due to all those things being filmed around the same time it landed them a small little roll in First Contact being borged lol.
If it's been long enough, privacy and subtlety will matter less and less. Eventually you'd just gotta be like "Hey, the wife/husband and I are gonna go spend some quality time together. So y'all just put in some headphones or something for thirty minutes."
There are at least one more civi ship being used by several factions in Federation space and allies. There's one in ST 3 Search for Spock, that got dwarfed by a Klingon Bird of Prey and later destroyed, and that same ship design has been used by other powers. Don't know the name of the design.
you also have the Talarian vessels showing up a lot in the TNG era... but my head canon is that the Talarian build and sold a lot of ships to other smaller powers
You left out of the Antares-Class cargos Ultra-Explosive Exploding Explodium, which is frequently used in the construction of Starfleet computer control panels.
Beginning with the Star Trek movies, it seems that consoles have used a lot of Explodium in standard starship production. Did the Antares-class haul that? I mean, that would be nerve-wracking, like any of us transporting nitro-glycerine in large quantities.
4:59)Seems better to have put the docking port on the top. 6:07)In one after series book, it was I.M. Pulse engines. 12:54)Para meters. Para:at, near or close. Meter: Distance or length. 14:08)Maybe the military would have taken them to Area 51. 16:47)Their beaming aboard is dramatic. The explosives could have been sent with a 3 second fuse. Same for when trapped by a tractor beam. Put a torpedo warhead into the beam.
the Y-class freighter was NOT armed with Phase cannons. They were armed with a single Plasma-cannon, CADET, please report back to your Fleet historical class for remedial training at once : Signed: Commodore Daul Shurin Star Fleet Command sector 7 Intelligence
I was hoping to see the Merchantman which was used for Star Trek III as the light cargo freighter that was destroyed by Kruge's Bird-of-Prey after the Klingon on the ship transmitted the information about the Genesis torpedo, and its design was used later for several episodes of TNG as freighters, and once for an annoyingly "by the book" group of aliens that were annexing a planet where people were already colonizing and not wanting to leave.
raid shadow legends! - the game that crashes every 5 minutes, and bombards you with advertisements for ingame purchase items every single time you change screens in the game.
Since the Federation doesn't use money.. exactly, but "credits", people probably use them for holodeck time and transporter access. I suppose a lot of civilians do in fact own small ships and shuttle craft , but they're just not shown on screen due to time and/or budget constraints.
Why do we all name our alien generals Biscuit?!! Now, now Q...you are new to the game. It's just, it's confusing Q! They might start asking questions, if, they all had the same name. R! This one is starting to ask too many questions! Go clean your room R, you come back to your RLG later!
I always thought the freighters in Enterprise should have ben much larger. Massive compared to the NX class. I mean if you are going to run cargo over 5 years, make it count.
25:51 This isn't an Antares-class. It's an Amarie Class, also known as an Amarie Smuggler's Heavy Escort and/or a Smuggler's Combat Vessel. In both cases it is based on a very different hull shape and equipped with some of the heaviest weaponry of any civilian ship in all of Trek, in excess of many military vessels of its time. It's also not based on the Antares model, bur rather the Jovis model. In STO, the Amarie is equipped with standard phaser arrays and torpedoes, plus a cloaking device, twin side-mounted kinetic artillery cannons, a Slamshot Magnetic Artillery Cannon, and on top of all that, onboard NPCs that are otherwise exclusive to Ferengi and a handful of lower-tier ships. Also, despite STO classifying the ship as an "Escort" it has the Destroyer mastery package, probably due to the ridiculous number of guns.
But how can they have merchants or freighters when there is no money or other forms of trade/currency/commerce other than purely "for the experience" deals like Sisko's restaurant?
What puzzles me is the question: How valuable were the cargoes they're hauling? If they're worth risking human lives for give those humans a fighting chance. If they're not, use drone ships. This seems like a policy for generating drama than how actual transportation has worked historically.
So many of these ships I just forget about, which is a shame, as they are interesting for numerous reasons. I still wish Star Trek's novel line was as expansive as Star Wars, just so we could get more on the civilian side. Something like Corps of Engineers, but for the civilian ships, unaligned human colonies not part of the federation or too far away, etc would be great.
The Y class Freighters has not the High End Phase Canons, they use odinary Plasma Turrets, they are in most Battle agains Pirats absolute useless. I don’t think this breaks cannon at all. The signal they sent would allegedly reach the Delta quadrant by the 24th century. Assuming the Borg received it they would have dispatched a cube heading towards the alpha quadrant. Who is to say that the cube that Q threw the Enterprise-D in-front of in sector J-25 wasn't a cube enroute already to the Alpha quadrant? i agree with Picard that Q actually dis them a favour. Also, Admiral Hansen admitted they didn't expect them so soon. i think it was clever how they tied it in so neatly to the timeline.
Why is it the UK armed forces always seem to promote the wrong guy to lieutenant? I mean they constantly refer to all of them as left Tenants ? and never the RIGHT Tenant? I guess what can you expect of a country continually trying to stuff their holiday suitcases in their boots instead of putting them in the trunk of their car like Americans do ? like how much luggage can fit in a pair of shoes ?
19:53 and I am reminded why I gave up on that show. Compare that ugly ship to the Guanshiyin on The Expanse. You can make a ship owned by a rich jerk without it being butt ugly.

Forgive my candour, but I just had to say it this time. Hopefully no hard feelings 😐
Are you kidding me? An arctic space ship? OMG. Writers really have fallen off. Tell me, do you know how cold interstellar space is? It doesn't matter how much ice is on your arctic planet, it's still going to be warmer than the vacuum of space. Can we get writers with working gray matter, please?

@@stevencorrell6473but that episode is a sequel to First Contact and part of that chain of events.
Honestly, I like the super yacht in Star Trek Discovery because I like an over the top design.
I like how the narrator specifies that he is saying “Ship” for the UA-cam censors, but then goes on to list several elements including “Bullshitinium”

Wait, what about “explodium”, that primary component of Oberth class hulls?
And every console
Well, we don't need exploding anymore, we used it up at wolf 359
The J Class looks like you wouldn’t have privacy, so how would you do the deed to make offspring.
Just.... do it.

I wish that you could do every Trek Central's videos. Brilliant and freaking fun to listen to.
We like to keep a vibrant team :)

There is the Merchant Ship in Star Trek III which was heavily reused for other ships.
The Monarch class. Yeah, that would have been a good one to cover.
Cheers Adam. I really liked the j class in enterprise
I think doing a video on all fhe Wolf 359 kitbash ships would be great. This was a good video.
Funny you should say that…

Nice! I'm finally getting my USS Princeton model too, I hear.
Loved the video - including the "bloops" :-) Thanks for the info!

You missed the Merchant Ship that delivers the Genesis plans to the Klingon Bird of Prey in Star Trek 3.
I beg to differ. Star Trek Online has become somewhat canon and in it Quark is so wealthy that he finally bought a moon to live on.

I would assume that the cargo crews were called boomers because, in nautical terms, a boom is often used to load and unload cargo from ships' holds.
Other people say unfortunately I'm not a fan of star trek that's too bad. It's their decision.
Hey how about the Antares from TOS episode Charlie X. And the cargo ship destroyed by the Klingon in The search for Spock
