- The Odyssey Star Cruiser full breakdown covers the stats, abilities, size and more of this fantastic starship from the United Federation of Planets. Star Trek Picard made the Enterprise NCC-1701-F canon with its appearance, even if it was short lived and decommissioned, but the Odyssey class itself remains active as of the 15th century.

It's a shame a series wasn't made using the Enterprise F as the hero ship.
AFAIK the timeline would add up for it to appear in hypothetical future seasons of Prodigy should Netflix decide to continue the show, so hope is not entirely lost
Progressiveness was startet with Roddenberry all along a long time ago. So stop bending his will to spread hate with it. If you cry because Star Trek is "too progressive" then you've clearly never understood the Message Gene himself wanted to relay@user-rk1zi2xn1j
@@user-qf1bb7nm8s even though the Titan-A is also entirely designed off of a fan ship.
@@user-qf1bb7nm8s And even worse, having to PAY the guy who created it royalties for every. single. episode!
The guy who created the Odyssey-class could be the next Matt Jeffries, and Kurtzman couldn't have that.
@user-rk1zi2xn1j The producers are a bunch of dirty human supremist for taking away the only Federation flagship not captained by a human.
Nothing against anyone who likes the G, but I felt is was criminal that the only time we get to see the Enterprise F is when she is being decommissioned. It could be my bias, but the Odyssey is far and away the better looking and equipped than the G
My suspicion is that they did this as a gesture of respect to Star Trek Online who had the Odyssey class designed and have been making stories for the Enterprise-F for over a decade
@@stars9084 Oh, I'm sure they did. I just think the Enterprise G is fugly
@@CuriousMind477 She grew on me over the season but she's still definitely not my favorite
@@stars9084 She would likely not bother me as much of she wasn't next to the Odyssey
@@CuriousMind477 Lol I get that. Odyssey was an impressive next step after the Sovereign
We didn't get to see enough of her just like the sovereign class
We saw too much.
@@timesthree5757how so?
No matter what, the Odyssey is a beautiful ship, and a worthy Enterprise.
Picard did the F dirty. just like they did the Titan-A
That's why I prefer the Online universe. They did the E-F much better justice.
Picard did a lot of things dirty.
Luckily Picard isn't cannon.
Or won't be for much longer.
@@michaelmacleod6517 what do you mean?
@travisbishop782 Star Trek as a property might get sold to a different studio. So thankfully Discovery and Picard might not be cannon much longer.
Love the Odyssey-Class. Glad to see it canonized.
Currently running a Sojourner Operations Star Cruiser variant in STO on my main. Looks like a Odyssey and a Galaxy smashed together and then someone stuck Ambassador-style Nacelles on it. Got it running an Beam loadout! It's a Warbird killer in a boardside, and can tank like a SoB too! Love it!
Good old beam boats
Based on how small the Enterprise-F's bridge we see in Picard is, I'm wondering if it was actually the battle bridge. If I recall, the justification for the F's retirement was that it had suffered significant internal damage on it's last mission, perhaps this included the main bridge?
Best in-universe description of why we don’t have that beautiful new bridge on the small screen.
I love the Odyssey so much, I really hope they bring it back
No.
@@timesthree5757 yes
@@user-vc2up9ys6v no
You know what? That's one beautiful ship. This is honestly what I hoped the Galaxy class would have looked like back when TNG first aired. She's got sleek, flowing lines. Like a classic (Italian) sports car. And it makes her look a lot smaller than she is. Like she's in motion standing still.
It's a toss-up for me between the relatively sleek brutality of the Excelsior class and this one for my favourite Star Trek ships. To me, both are the most gorgeous of their respective era's.
I desperately want a series set on board an Odyssey Class. It's glorious, like a natural evolution of the Sovereign.
I also want to see the successor to it in the 2450s, which would be the same sort of shape and size, but with the dish moved back slightly and the nacelles lengthened and moved forward slightly such that the two merge like a horseshoe crab, with the red bits melded into the top of the dish, and fixing the number 1 weakness of starfleet vessels - the nacelle pylons.
The producers screwed up making a 'neo' constitution AGAIN
@@icedreamer9629that would the Yorktown variant.
@@icedreamer9629 This! A next, next generation aboard one of these please. The destruction of romulus has potential for interesting drama, and just new directions in distant systems.
It ugly stop.
Rick thank you because this is what I was looking for. Many sources of cannon and non cannon are unable to provide the information on for example armaments' and point defense where they are etc. so far I have not watched anyone else who went in depth with as much cannon as possible. Thank you is what I am trying to say.
My canon is that I never mount cannon on this ship. It has the turning radius of a small moon, even with three RCS accelerators active.
I never really comprehended how big the Odyssey class is, but checking lengths and comparison charts it actually dwarfs the Galaxy class, which is kinda insane.
I like that the F is the best of the Galaxy and the best of the E.
I don't think it looks very good though. The E was awesome looking, and the D was really classic. The D and E were the best ever IMO
@@nafnaf0interesting, I actually really like the look. It reminds me of the size of the D with the same exploration capacity, and the aggressive sleekness of the E
When they had the design the next Enterprise contest for Star Trek Online, I thought the winning sketch was pretty ugly. But what the STO team did with that starting point really became a beautiful ship. I'm very sad with how it was treated in Picard S3. And then succeeded by the horrible mess of how they justified the creation of an Enterprise G.
Which is why I think the ship is more Cryptic's design than the competition winner. Incidentally, Cryptic conspicuously did not mention that guy when announcing the Odyssey/F's debut in Picard (possibly due to that guy's caustic political views), until some idiot went around social media and reddit chastising Cryptic for not thanking "the REAL designer".
Cryptic did make a variant based on the competition design, and man is it ugly.
@@ffnbbqI didn’t know he had caustic views… but yeah, I always thought they’d _heavily_ massaged that winning sketch.
Yeah really just the basic shape and the two necks were what probably they liked in the sketch. And submitting an entry usually means the creator forfeits all claims to it. So it is Cryptic's legally and don't have to mention the contest winner at all.
It never became better, still looks like ass, I don't see why people like it so much
I have this ship in STO and it was the go-to back when it came out and for a long long time afterwards.
How would it do as a generational ship? Would it be good for a mission between galaxies that would last for dozens or even hundreds of years?
Still is a go to if you get the Terran Lexington!
@@TheNoiseySpectator I believe the Odyssey class is not fully self-sustaining for that. It still needs to visit Starbases from time to time. It wouldn't be like Voyager in the Delta Quadrant because the space between galaxies is empty.
For intergalactic multigenerational travel, you have something like the Universe class from the 26th Century, IMO.
It's 3219m long, like a small mobile city in space. Potentially, with the full benefits of one and a whole ecosystem inside.
Thus, no cramped corridors of your typical starship. That's better for mental health in the long run. And makes it easier to travel for centuries.
@@enterprisethesylveon5787 Ugh but then you've got that dorky weapons pod sticking out of her back. Doesn't look very appealing.
@@MrMikellsof88 It unlocks the Starfleet Parts as well as the Terran Yorktown Class parts, it's what I do, I use the Yorktown Terran Hull and the Starfleet parts, there 'sno big red markings like on the saucer, so it's the next best thing.
Not gonna lie, this ship and its variants, has become my new favorite in the entirety of Star Trek lore, hands down. Lots of them I love and enjoy, but this is by far my #1 choice. Thanks for the informational video, Rick! Love your channel!!
CI: "It's a big ship."
Universe-class Enterprise-J: *Ahem.*
I would like to see this ship used as a hero ship in a show set some years after the end of Picard with a updated version going on a extreme duration exploration and research cruise
Very good ship breakdown. I think one of your best yet.
An iconic ship, with one of tue most unique legacies in the franchise. Shame they kinda neutered the Enterprise F lore, but hey alternate timelines and stuff with STO and the lot.
Loved her there and loved her in Picard all the same.
13:07 OK, I was NOT expecting the saucer separation to go like that. I figured the saucer just detached from the two small pylons connecting it to the rest of the hull instead of leaving behind a sliver of its bottommost section.
Looking at the eaglemoss model of the Enterprise F on my shelf as I watch this, thanks for the video :D
Hoping you get to a dedicated breakdown for the Constitution III, Duderstadt, and Echelon classes eventually 👍
Odyssey class is definitely impressive, but my all time favorite is still the Sovereign class.
A video on my favorite ship for my birthday? Thank you so much!
I love the production value for this episode. It shows how much you love this ship. Probably my current favorite, cus I friggin love the Oddy too.
Also, rubber duckie room is on deck 4 on my ship, or is it?
The first km+ ship in Starfleet.
The Vengeance. But that is NOT the normal continuity.
There are Star Wars style "super carriers" that make the Connie Refit look like a worker bee. They're just not mentioned outside the books.
km+?

Longer than 1000 m.
Let me guess... The Odyssey will be on par with Venator-class Star Destroyer in terms of size right?
This a beautiful in-depth look.
For God's sake let's see a TV show around the Enterprise F. I know, 'but Star Trek Legacy!'. I agree! But the F is an absolute beauty - can we not have seperate TV shows on both the F and the G? Please?
The Lexington is a bahemoth and is my ship of choice. For all my Starfleet characters
I hope we get to see this class on-screen again one day.
I am a fan of the Sovereign, But it's good to see That starfleet .Learnt their lesson with the Galaxy that they gave this ship a Gunship It can deploy at a moment's notice. Overall not a bad ship 👌
Such a lovely ship... And a biggun'! Great video. Great subtitles. Thanks for it!
Yay!! I’ve been waiting for a new revision of this breakdown. Love the Odyssey class!
I really want to see it on screen more than what we saw in Picard
Even though the F was decommissioned early? I doubt that it’s the last we’ll see of her, she’s slated to join her predecessors at Athan Prime, and, I would like to think, will probably be there until she’s called again in 2410, one year after the Enterprise-G is sacrificed to prevent an Undine invasion, when she’s possibly recommissioned for one last cheer, and one last battle through time itself.
I think she would win the day but be critically damaged due to her handicap, But if that does happen? Something tells me she’d partake in similar origins to her Successor’s original predecessor, and would be stripped down and rebuilt from the frame up, into the Yorktown-Class Enterprise-H.
We need more of this lovely ship in a series or movie with this ship we should have had this as the main hero ship in Picard
I can’t wait to see you cover The Dervish class. You got me hooked on that ship and I still use it. The rear turret has saved me more than once.
Great video, love the Odyssey class.
I love the look of this class. It's sleek, deadly, and can be utilized in various situations/scenarios.
Lovely ship and delightful to hear such a thorough briefing on her wealth of innovations.
This is a genuinely gorgeous ship!!!
My favorite ship, i played the hell out of this ship online, it got me through so many mirror universe incursions. I love you my USS Draconomicron!
I remember receiving an Odyssey when it first came out in STO. The account with it got lost but the Odyssey is probably my favorite STO creates ships.
That bridge variant shown briefly at 13:40 pays homage to TOS and TNG by combining elements of both the original Enterprise's bridge (the front), and that of the Galaxy class (the rear).
Thanks for the video. It was very informative. 😊
Been looking forward to this one.
This is my second favorite ship, closely following behind my favorite Akira-class. While its the design aesthetic, carrier capability, and torpedo launcher count that attracts me to the Akira, almost everything about the Odyssey is just a big YES for me. And now that we have a proper internal schematic (though not deck-by-deck), it is on par with my favorite. Always gives me more appreciation for a ship to know the actual details about its design and what it has. And the bridge is absoLUTELY gorgeous, it fits the whole Star Trek aesthetic to a T, while being unique from any other hero bridge we've seen.
On a side note, my 3rd place ship/s are the original Dyson ships, with that marble white hull and dark grey lines that sometimes had purple lights. Absolutely love them, they maintain a trekkie look, while being alien in origin. Love the whole idea of their use of different technology too, such as the proton weaponry, gravimetric torpedoes, protonic metaphasic shielding, and so on. Plus, the science destroyers could transform slightly to armor some weakspots and the secondary deflector, and reveal heavy proton cannons. And the Obelisk Carrier? love the whole idea of a carrier that mass-fabricates swarmer drones.
Ngl I love this design
Odyssey Class is my 3rd favourite, great design!!
Nicely Done!
thank you certifiably ingame, i love this video, and i love the odyssey!!
congratulations sir amaizing job well done!
Pretty slick and smooth from the side.
Most informative.
"So.... you folks have come to our planet on a mission of peaceful exploration?"
"Indeed."
"... and this peaceful exploration necessitated you looming over our planet in a ship visible from the ground, a ship large enough to hold the standing armies of at least two entire planets, enough arms to knock a planet out of its orbit, and enough armor to withstand getting hit by said planet, with sensors so intrusive you could probably tell me the exact moments of my last three erections, and what I was thinking about at the time?"
"... look, man. Space is beautiful, but space is big, and space is mean. You'd be amazed how few space-faring powers will agree to sit down in a drum circle and talk about their feelings. It's not zero! But it's not enough."
A beautiful ship.
Beautifully designed ship. The low armament is confusing, though, as it was supposed to also be an anti-Borg ship capable of carrying the flag in wartime. I thought I read somewhere that it also had the updated variant of ablative armour, and something about the RCS thrusters being miniature impulse engines to keep it nimble. That might be outdated beta canon stuff, though.
I mean, we know starfleet are a wee bit thick. This thing should have the deployable armour tech from Voyager, Beverley's transphasic shields, transphasic torpedos from Voyager, dual warp cores for redundancies, multiple core shield generators for rotating recharge, and so much more.
They should have surveillance cameras everywhere, and security routines which lock on to any unknown DNA and beam it into the buffer.
Instead, they go for BS like saucer separation and MVAM. Gimmicks. Very silly.
"Captain, the - are boarding us!"
"Computer, defence mode 6"
"bssshp"
"Intruders neutralised and ready to be beamed one at a time to the brig" 😂😂
Remember that these are phaser strips as opposed to the traditional banks and given their placement given the Odyssey 360 degree phaser beam coverage. That being said it should be able to boast more torpedo tubes. That seems a bit of an oversight considering this was built in response to the Scimitar and Negh’Var.
@@icedreamer9629 Still no warp capability on the detachable saucer section. Might as well have it powered by oars.
Not necessarily (low armament=bad Borg)
We know from the Destiny Trilogy that SF policy on anti-borg weapon/tactics is closer to "sniper rifle" rather than "machine gun"
Now while it could be argued that the more tubes firing at once, the quicker Borg shields would be overwhelmed... But it also increases the risk that if your weapon (say, a transphasic torpedo with variable subspace geometry) isn't powerful enough to 1-shot KO then the more times you fire it the greater chance the Borg will adapt to it, so you only really "need" 2 or 3 tubes (1 main, 1 back up, and a spare) for those super weapons
@@auricstorm It occurs to me after reading your post that anytime 8472 encountered the Borg they only really needed to pop off one really big beam to end the fight before it could ever really start.
I love the scope of this analysis. I can tell you like this ship
One of my favorite classes
This is so cool 🙌
Thanks for this video! The Odyssey class is more impressive than I thought.
With all the new ship classes (Odyssey, Neo-Constitution, Sagan, Inquiry, Pathfinder, Reliant, Excelsior II...) , it would be really interesting to see their sizes compared to each other and to the original hero ships. 🙂🖖
My absolute favourite! She is a beauty!
Given that Scotty was on the design team for this ship, the look of the Aquarius craft takes on a new feel to it, given that it sort of invokes the shape of the Jenolan where they found him.
back when i played star trek online it was great showing up in one of these and giving all the escorts and science vessels a ship to rally around
Fantastic how ca you do this thank you. WOW!
Thank you sir! It was just...
I'd like a video on the Yorktown refit for this design thanks. This video is great btw
This, and its many variations in Star Trek online, are legitimately one of my favorite ship classes in all of Star Trek. If you’re curious which variant is my overall favorite, it’s probably the Yorktown.
Awesome breakdown. This highlights why the Odyssey-class has easily become my favorite, if not top five favorite, Starfleet class.
Personally, when it comes to the backstory, I prefer the STO timeline over ST: Pic. The Sovereign-class closed out the 24th century as the flagship of the fleet. The Odyssey-class was to be the new flagship for the beginning of the 25th century.
Hooray for the shout-out of the Rubber Duckie room! lol
This shit is a wonder a true sucessor to the Galaxy class. This is a character on itself.
The potential is monstrous
Lovely ship ❤❤
You didn't mention the extensive amount of Emergency Top Hat Storage on the bridge of the Odyssey class ships 😁
This is very nice design.
Big ships deserves more love in sci-fi, they're always the punching bags in most media. Give them what they deserve, they are suppose to be the best of the best.
My favorite design so far.
I'd be interested to see whatever justification could be made to explain why the F got pulled out of mothballs in 2409.
I must agree !
Given the massive size and wide mission profile i like the idea of using saucer separation as more of a utility than the galaxy class. i.e. leave the saucer in orbit around a central world/place of importance as an impromptu base of operations/temporary starbase, while the drive section and Aquarius continue semi independently running missions to nearby systems, feels like it would have great implications for speeding up deep space exploration, or managing inter-system operations.
Staffing three ships with such a complicated setup might be weird though, at the very least requiring the officer in charge to be designated fleet captain, and possibly justifying a permanent admiralty presence on board?
Now, if only in the new series, they can actually improve the internal lighting of the ships. Used to be the internal lighting of federation, ships were quite bright.
Now they're dark and dower. You would think a virgining type 2 civilization that's mastered using anti-matter as a power source for interstellar spaceships would have the ability to (light) the inside of the spaceships.
Right off the bat an underside view of the vessal.
She was my Enterprise for 10 years. Gonna be hard to say goodbye.
All the video's I've binge-watched of yours has finally convinced me to play STO (on XBox, cause I can't do a keyboard) and I LOVE the game. Can you tell me though, how to get the Odyssey class you use? I see different variants so I'm just wondering... Just starting though, at level 56 so getting there.
The Ulysses is my main ship in STO, it started as an Odyssey but was refit to a Lexington class
I’d like to know what happened to the E
Only explanation we have is in star trek online where it got trapped in fluidic space and fought the undine for several days before it's warp core caved in
It wasn't Worf's fault
I hope we get an Ent-F show one day even if its animated we need that lore, and to show off what the Ody can do.
I love your videos, and particularly when you talk about the Impulse drives. But, does the impulse drive not push the craft faster than light speed, because I seem to remember a TNG episode where the Enterprise D travels from Neptune to Earth in 9 or 19 minutes, Wesley was driving.
Full impulse power is .25 the speed of light, which equals 167,654,157.25 MPH. The distance between Earth and Neptune is over 2.8 billion miles, which would take over 17 hours at full impulse.
Are you doing a video on 32nd century ships anytime soon? Thier designs are really something
I think the Oddy is the most beautiful ship in STO. I still have one captain flying one.
I think it's cool looking but not as beautiful as the Connie.
Is there somewhere to get full official/ish ship layouts in high resolution?
I love my Odyssey in STO. Its my current main.
The Odyssey Class has actually grown on me over the last couple of years, thanks in large part to Picard Season 3. My only real complaints with its design are with the placement of the Bridge along with its ridiculous size (personal preference: I like the Bridge lining up evenly with the Sensor dome beneath the Saucer, and while I like certain aspect within the Bridge, I prefer it not being the size of shopping center; call me old fashioned, but as a viewer I prefer the intimate feel of the TOS/TMP/Various TNG-era bridge sizes.) My other issue is with some refit designs of the Odyssey having forward leaning pylons for the Nacelles, which makes the ship look an ugly turkey as opposed to an Elegant Bird with the swept back pylons. The only ship design that forward pylon configuration works for is the Galaxy Class.
Speaking of the Galaxy Class, with the Odyssey Class being significantly larger than the Galaxy and the state of the Galaxy being in relative peace, does the Odyssey ships have civilians/families on board?
I don't think so. I think starfleet learnt their lesson from that era and probably will never do such a thing again.
@@khidorahian If you consider what went down in Prodigy, Lower Decks, and Picard with A.I. intelligence running the starships, somehow, I strongly doubt Starfleet would have learned any lessons, families included. 🤣
@@TONYGILLEY ah you’re probably right
Nice callout of the Rubber Ducky room.
Could it also utilise the Aquarius’s aft torpedo launchers while it was docked? Giving it 4? Aft launchers?
Gotta say it is my favourite enterprise out there
Did the Enterprise F survive the Battle of Earth Space Dock? Did we get a ship/base casualty report afterwards? Did we really see Earth Space Dock get destroyed or just disabled?
Modularity in space vessels seems like a good idea, but what I want to know is why doesn't Starfleet have dedicated carrier ships?
Imagine a massive vessel that can unleash a swarm of hundreds or maybe even thousands of small attack fighters. We don't see anything like that in Star Trek.
I always envisioned this as an Explorer type starship for extreme deep space operations and colonization. Given the size and slipstream, it functions more like a mobile Starbase being able to supply small fleets and deploy outposts on new worlds.
in description: Star Trek Picard made the Enterprise NCC-1701-F canon with its appearance, even if it was short lived and decommissioned, but the Odyssey class itself remains active as of the 15th century. 15th century???
Honestly if you're going full on to fight the Borg.
I wish they also had added a spinal particle lance.
Similar to the Galaxy Class Dreadnought.
Spinal weapons are so rare in starfleet and they look surprisingly good placed on the lower saucer section.
They get that in the Yorktown refit
I use the Lexington sub class of this in sto but other then thr main hull everything else is odyssey constructed
I run a mirror Lexington myself, and use the Odyssey look.
I love this ship
