I really enjoy the narrative that Ralph is stuck having to review AAA drudgery while Austin gets to review all of the actually fun games.
There have been loads of great AAA games lately. FF7 rebirth is like a dream come true since I first played the pc version of the original back when it came out for pc in like 1999.
It’s mostly just the live service dross and the big budget catastrophes that make it seem like such a cesspool. Skull and bones and suicide squad come to mind. Plus you get the mid tier mediocrity like assassins creed mirage and starfield. Not bad games but also not good ones either. But we’ve also gotten Dragons dogma 2, Alan wake 2, street fighter 6, armored core 6, god of war Valhalla, Elden ring dlc (soon). Lots of absolute banger instant classics even from AAA, when they’re given focused projects with clear goals and a clear vision for what they want to make.
I like to think he made some kind of Faustian deal with the devil to reach the million subs before his birthday a while back. The trade-off? He's forced to review creatively bankrupt AAA live service crap in perpetuity.

Ralph has gotten me to try many games over the years that I normally wouldn't have...and this looks like another one I need to check out.

That some people are essentially saying stuff like "there are more important games to review" is completely wild to me. Been super excited for this one and it was great to hear Austin's thoughts. Can't wait to play it myself.

A lot of people believe that they are "owed" content. It's pathetic. It goes against the very thing that make these videos great, which is the writers passion for writing to begin with.
If "there are more important games to review" then the people complaining should go and make those reviews themselves. It's their channel, they get to pick what games they review. Them's the rules
What games might be comin out dis week dey might be wantin to be reviewed? Like what games are dey sayin should be reviewed over dis?

It's honestly incredible that Austin has been able to seamlessly transition into this new role on a long-respected channel and none of the longtime fans have any complaints at all. Dude is seriously talented, that is NOT an easy transition to make.
I think it’s very endearing that you can notice some quirks in the way Austin talks that seem like they come straight from Ralph’s mouth. They feel like two very similar yet still distinct sides of a coin.

Well........... He's not Ralph.
His delivery isn't as engaging and his voice is at least ~30% more annoying.
He's doing a fine job job but Austin videos clearly are just not as good.
*I've never mentioned it to this point, even a little. I'm only doing so because you said NONE and AT ALL. Don't mistake a lack of whining for a lack of criticism.
He's fine, but I've watched all of Ralph's reviews and he is really the only critic that affects my decision to play something. I won't say I trust Austin's reviews like that. It's still early on though. He can improve. We don't really know his taste as much as we know Ralph's at this point. I will say he is a bit less critical of games in general than Ralph.

It's not constructive if your critism is something they can't change. Although the other main point on that I'd agree on and argue is actually constructive he could work on the delivery, but delivery and how is voice naturally sounds isn't constructive critism it's being an ass and purely a preference
I'm a long time fan and I kinda just don't care about more of Austin's content.

This reminds me of the glorious hey day of those great flash games I would play in high school that were so simplistic to pick up but hard to master and we would all compete in class to post the highest scores. Definitely grabbing this one

This review is under 10 minutes long. I doubt they pushed their bigger projects back to get this out, more likely Austin is passionate about a smaller game that deserves more eyes on it and did this on the side for us to watch while we wait for reviews on games we’ve already made our minds up about
I would wager there are plenty of subscribers, including me, who wait for Ralph or Austin to give their opinion on games like Dragons Dogma 2 because their opinion is trusted and usually worth the wait.
Then by all means a couple of weeks ago Austin had a segment in ‘this week in video games’ that gave a summery of his feelings about DD2. I just don’t think every review between now and when it’s released should be full of comments groaning about it not being those games yet, especially shorter reviews like this.

Are you not capable of making a decision based on the swathe of information and reviews already out there? If you care so much about this specific review then surely you don't care when it comes out right? Because it means that much, right? "Worth the wait"as you said. Well if it's worth the wait then keep waiting and stop whining.
And besides all that, if you think austin reviewing a game somehow trumps or impedes ralphs review making then you clearly have no idea how their production works, which ralph has explicitly stated previously when austin started. Austin reviews extra games that ralph can't do or isn't interested in. This is not hard stuff to figure out man. Just think for a second next time.

I've had my eye on this, 6 hours sound spectacular. I already pulled the trigger on Rebirth this year, so the rest of my purchases need to come in with humble playtimes. i liked that in the demo the name of the levels also were a challenge for that level that awarded extra points
Not only does the review give me all the information about gameplay that I need, but it goes the extra mile to really describe how the game FEELS to play, the emotional experience, the flavour of fun on offer. And the scripting is so tight, doesn't feel all over the place like some other review channels I won't name and shame. Absolutely top knotch, I am SO glad this channel exists. The visual style reminds me a lot of Killer 7 especially since the visuals get really out there with this game too. I really wish we got more experimentation with gaming art styles in general.

As an aside to what you said about joysticks being a trouble sport for steam deck play. I would try using the trackpads as they will most likely be a better experience than the joysticks imprecise input

6:38 - The Steam Deck has motion-controls/sensors, no?... And also, you could probably use the touch-pad, which would be more accurate than pushing the aim around with stick-input.
This looks super cool. With so many AAA games failing us it's good to see indie games are still pushing the envelope.
People need to know about fps limits and msi rivatuner. Not locking your fps can make your cpu work harder than it has to which can make the game slower actually.

This is not exactly my jam BUT YES MORE INDIE 🎉🎉🎉 There's nothing as boring as most AAA games, with the occasional exception. Mostly only the drama surrounding them is entertaining at times. But I'm living fo the "put this on your radar" segment. I never watch the triple a reviews

When Yahtzee started calling shooters "point and click", I didn't know someone will embrace it and make a fun and challenging puzzle "point and click" shooter.
You should limit your fps thru NVCP, RTSS or sth, 900fps in a cutscene can't be healthy nor is it in any shape or form necessary. Also, hide the fps for a UA-cam Review on a 1M sub channel, Austin. People are watching. :D

I agree Austin has tremendous skills.
I also feel that being an editor kind of helps you a lot to understand the nature of the channel's style as the edit can make or break everything.
The editor also has to creatively introduce new stuff and understand the audiences tastes and likes and dislikes.
the editor has to undergo the burden of listening to the host and their countless takes. some pointlesly dragged out. some crisp and easy to show.
so it makes the editor intimately aware of the hosts behavior and their thought process.

Literally the whole point of having multiple reviewers is so that when one is tied up with a big review, the others can cover smaller games in the meantime. I know nothing of the game but watching the character run around in that art style at the start for the oddest reason makes me think you're roleplaying as Cyborg Noodle in a new Gorillaz album. I know, odd take, but it's weirder that it made me think of it.
