- Children of the Sun is a new game from Rene Rother and Devolver Digital. It is a First-Person Shooter Puzzle Indie Game released in 2024 where you play as a cult escapee. The story and lore for Children of the Sun can be a bit confusing at times, especially since the cut scenes are so fast-paced and not shown in chronological order, but this is what I was able to piece together. Includes full spoilers for the story and plot of Children of the Sun.

The scene that leads up to the line of "Soon the sun will start shining through a bullet shaped hole in your head" is preceded by a dream sequence that has a few lines of dialogue before the final line is delivered as well as each line being accompanied by faceless silhouettes of men that she kneels down in front of as they pat her, and the lines go as follows:
You drugged me with kindness
So I can pretend I exist
You were my father
And I was your fool
Now look at the mirror
Your face is not distorted anymore
So you became a stranger
You will be an only child
Soon the sun will start shining
Through a bullet shaped hole in your head

Personally though, and perhaps this just speaks to interpretation, especially with the history of cults like this, i feel like it could also be taken as sexual abuse? Kneeling down in front of the faceless/distorted silhouettes of men, or at least presumably so considering the models used and the different attires men and women of the cult wear, seems more like she could've been forced into bjs by the men of the cult, but i could also be wrong considering the lines that are used speaking about kindness and the motions do look like patting her head, at least i hope it was just patting, poor girl suffered enough
I hope they release a follow up to this, id love to see how she handles being a cult leader now, maybe through the use of comics
Personally, she would just become an evil cult leader like the former repeating the same thing she experienced to someone else... that's the cycle of abuse and trauma 😊

The atmosphere of this game is amazing. Everything from the color to the typography to the sound design is amazing. I love how it helps to put you in the main character's headspace. Definitely going to have to put this one on my list!
