The reason the Pajero won was because it had more torque, a heap ton better traction (because of Mitsubishi's hybrid limited slip diff) and the Pajero is just better in general.

I love my old 80 series but independent front will always offer more traction than solid front axle.. the solid front just gives more flex, but nowhere near as capable for high speed handling, towing heavy weight and traction. Also, the old engines in the 80 series produce less power than this newer Prado

Super select means the driver can shift the 4wd gear while driving. Nothing to do with torq or anything. If u saying the Pajero was using 4L gear then the Prado also can change the 4wd gear beforehand, no excuses here
