Love your demos Jeremy. I'm very interested in the Casio CT-S1 for my small studios as it's foot print is much smaller. The red version looks sexy. The S1 would probably be better for those starting gigging in pub bands. It's better built and looks much more professional , whereas the X700 looks more home organ. But I have to say there are some good features on the X700 such as the arp.

    * I just added to my previous comment, but wanted to say, the the CT-X700 still has its place as you described for added features, cost savings and potential owner and their intended application.
We grew up with a family acoustic upright piano, but I believe my first personal electronic keyboard I purchased myself was one of the first Casios I wish I still had. It would be a collector's item. I don't remember the model name, but I believe it was Silver, with a 2 octave full sized keyboard, one or maybe very few tones, like 3 or 4, with one speaker.
I think I still have my classic Casio VL Tone white mini keyboard calculator in storage, along with a Casio Rap Man keyboard.
I currently went without nice tactical or hi tech smart watches and wear a new black faced LED Casio Tough Solar G Shock type watch that will probably last close to 10 years, and no battery.
Casio has come a long way and rivals and maybe surpasses the other brand keyboards, especially in the $200 and less price range, especially with the improved sounds and keys/action and portability/battery power options.

I was waiting for a comparison like this, guess I will be going for the CT-S1 or CT-S400, the CTX-700 is just a bit too wide for my for my room, anyway, I wonder if which of the CT-S1 or CT-S400 would be a better choice, they're both in the same price which is weird...? Good comparison Jeremy! The CT-S1 is mostly meant for beginners, who would like to play classical piano pieces with rich AiX powered tones and don't want to compromise on portability, whereas the CT-X700 is meant for beginners, who would love to play their favourite songs with lush accompaniment rhythms. And, I'm glad the CT-S1 comes with a couple of tones from the VL - 1, released in 1981.

I bought a Casio CTX-800 last year. As much as I like the form factor of the CT-S1, you don't get nearly as many tones or features. The advantage of the CT-S1 is that you don't have to hunt in the menus to find patches. Which, I suppose makes it better for live keyboard players. But the sheer variety of the CTX-800 makes it far more useful for studio use. So, overall I'm glad I bought the Casio CTX-800 instead and not wait for this.

I got the CTS 200 and the ctx 800. The first CTS 200 and 300 boards aren't really gig material far as sound wise. the design however is soooo fresh bro. That's why I got a white one. So basically the design makes up for the sound on the cts200😂😂

  • @AriefAsakura

Still can't decide which one for a new learner for me.
Because in my country the CT-S1 priced almost twice the CT-X700 (IDR 3,8M vs 2,3M).
    I don't know what's going on. LOL
I really hope I can get my hands with a good piano sound quality, and good keys to press (at least semi-weighted keys).
    That's why I want the CT-S1 (because I can't afford CDP-S100).
But maybe I'll stick to CT-S200 for now (because of its portability, and I don't need touch sensitivity yet),
until I practice enough skill to make myself worthy to buy my ultimate desire, CDP-S100, like 3-5 years later.

  • @jjacob25101

Definitely the CT-S1 for me. Or the CT-S400. But I may end up getting both, eventually. I may still keep my Go:Keys, and may get the Yamaha Reface CP, but only would progrss to the Roland VR-09 and RD 88 if I really get advanced. But not I can play the church Casio CDP-S350 which it way better and more full featured than I realized, and 88 weighted keys. Samsung's New Galaxy Book Pro hasthe the hardware and specs to run Keyscapes and the other music software and intergrates with my phone.
I always enjoy your videos, and though I find a lot of tech info and additionsl playing and perspectives from other reviewers, you always make it real and more simple and comprehendable for all types of piano and keyboard enthusiasts from around the world.

The Galaxy Book speakers are much, but no problem with BT speakers and such in my audio arsenal.

It’s a shame not having auto-accompaniment rhythms and 1 track recorder in a good sound quality keyboard, Although I’m a beginner, I like to play my songs with auto-accompaniment and record my performances. Anyways, the CTS1 sounds great, but if I would have to choose one, I’ll go for the Casio CTX 700, it has more rhythms, more sounds and an Advanced song recorder. Anyways, great keyboards, great value for Mony. I’m from Mexico, but I don’t know if the Casio CTS 1 is already available for sale in my country, it’s a very new model, I’ve seen the Casio CTX 700 in stores like Walmar in a very good price, I would like to have it but I’m very happy with my Yamaha keyboard

The question here is about the samples quality, if using a headphone or a reference monitor, does the CT-S1 have the better sound in a direct comparison with the CT-X700/800 or the new CT-S400? Always talking about the sound categories inside the CT-S1, of course.

Hi Jeremy. I seem to recall you may have done a similar, perhaps less detailed, comparison before. But in this case of comparing "apples and oranges" your final conclusion is important with the distinction that CT-S1 is primarily a piano (with frills) - and at its price, a very good choice for an unexpectedly good piano with quite good build quality. Whereas the CT-X700 is a rather basic arranger instrument, with many compromises to keep the price low. So the appeal is to different customers; but that in itself would be useful for someone who is virtually a beginner and not quite sure about what path to head, piano or arranger. I suspect if the choice was to take the arranger path, you may be able to suggest something a little better for a cost that not a great deal higher. That probably would mean another brand and here I think you are specifically comparing Casio offerings. [A comment on piano key-top textures. While you have your preferences, I think few acoustic grand pianos have textured white keys (I'm open to correction, but that's my experience so far. My Yamaha CLP-695GP digital grand does have textured black keys but not white and for me that works well for navigating across the keyboard. Just a personal observation.]

The earlier video I did was a CT-S300 vs CT-S1. I'm just trying to cover the various choices new buyers have to go through. 😊 It's mostly the older acoustic grand that has textured key tops because ivory was used till not too long ago.

@@JeremySee Ah es, I remember the model now. I'd forgotten ivory keys - I don't recall encountering them except on second-hand pianos. I think ivory keys disappeared on new pianos many years ago, at least in western markets. That's an interesting point - from the outside at least, Singapore seems to sit somewhere between being "Eastern" and "Western" with a leaning more to the latter in most ways except genetically. Academic interest - people are people, and individuals at that, although the world is enriched by the different cultures! Singapore seems a delightful and fascinating blend of both cultural and economic influences - would love to visit, but not possible. Hello Jeremy thanks a lot for everything, I almost bought the Ct s1 today but it was a bit expensive here in Chile, the ct s400 and ct x700 are cheaper, does the 700 has the same grand piano sound with headphones then? Just want to make sure as I understood that from the video, if it is so I think the 700 should be a better option for me as a beginner that really really liked the sound of the Ct s1.Will be playing with headphones and speakers. Hope you can help me and again thanks a lot for all you do.
Edit: just noticed in your review that the ct s1 has better key sensibility, is it much difference? But I also noticed that to change the octave on the ct s1 is not easy and I want to learn to play songs that might require quick octave change... but I dont have the money to get a 88 key one... only the orbit or alesis recital and I never heard of orbit before and read some bad reviews about the semi weighted keys of the alesis and ppl saying that the sensitive keys where better... sorry for asking so much I am so confused at what to get and not make the wrong call.

Hola Joe. =S, no me gustan. Hacen ruido y molesta.

Hi Jeremy nice and informative video as usual. I’d say the CT-S1 is better for a gigging musician, a small band, a church or a café, as well as to accompany a singer. On the other hand, the CT-X700 is a better choice for families, children, or people who are using the many sounds and the 6-tracks MIDI recorder to sketch musical ideas.
By the way, out of curiosity, could you test the Bluetooth module on the CT-X800? It would be great if it worked as it would broaden up the possibilities of the instrument.
I am waiting for the CT-S400 to hit the shelves as it is essentially a CT-X800 with the same form factor as the CT-S1, and with the most severe flaws of the CTX700/800 amended.
    Cheers 👍🎹

The CT-X700 must be lots of fun with all those voices. I think you made the right choice, but I sense you are concerned about sound quality. I don't think the CT-S1 is a true upgrade because these keyboards are too similar. There's an easy fix for you on the sound side if you have a fairly powerful computer.
Your keyboard can be connected to a computer via the USB port. You can easily get great VST plug-ins, including pianos samples which are much better than the samples built into professional keyboards. Some are free, but expect to pay for the best quality pianos. Waves Grand Rhapsody, for example, features a Fazioli grand piano and costs only around $30, so it's a good starting point. On a PC you can get a free DAW such as Pro Tools or Cakewalk to host your VSTs. If you ever want to upgrade your action (to do full justice to your VST plug-ins) you can get a weighted action MIDI controller with 73 or 88 keys for less than $400.

That's what I'm talking about. Namely, if Casio had made the CT-x 700 more portable, they shouldn’t have made the Casiotone series at all. We know that the Casiotone series in the past, in the early eighties, other than quality workmanship, had nothing revolutionary to offer. "Repetition" of this series can only excite some nostalgics, because we all know that they sounded just like sh1t. The new Casiotone certainly sounds better because of the AiX engine, but they already have four models on offer. The logical step would be to go further with professional arrangers built right around that sound engine, and not to create these little keyboards - toys. But that's just my opinion.
