Best review of step on I've seen so far! I've run them for 3 seasons and I always tell people that the only thing "beginner" about them is the convenience factor. Other than that they are more comfortable and responsive than any other freeride binding on the market.
Let’s go !🙌🏼😳
I rode them this year, Im a rad dad that's almost 50 and don't think ill ever go back lol. I love them.
Nice review! I have been using step on for 3 seasons. It's so responsive and convenient! I ride 100 days a season and it usually takes 2 pairs of Ions. The boots broke, but the binds stayed strong. Will never go back.
Had these for 4 seasons. ZERO problems. ZERO pressure or pain points. ZERO failures. I’m not a beginner, I’ve ridden for 32 years. I still ride fast and hard. I don’t have back problems and I CAN bend down to strap in. That’s not why these are great. It’s just simpler. I love anything that is simplified. That’s pure design.
Nice Mark! I've been using them as well for two years! Wow I just learned so much from that clinic!
Been riding the Step-ons for about 2 months now and absolutely love them. Love them. Same responsive, consistent feel every single time and no foot pain whatsoever. Will never go back to traditional bindings.
Really loving the videos you guys are putting out. Quality product overviews by people that are clearly snowboarders and not marketing jargon talking heads. Getting secondhand stoke from all the whiterooms in this one.
Thank you for taking the time to watch! I’m stoked you like it.
3 years in I LOVE em. Don’t forget your safety leash. Half asleep on a chair I kicked my disengage lever.
i did NOT know the lever would stay up when you disengaged, such a useful tip. Used to remove my foot while holdin lever, hunched over.
Thanks for the awesome review ... decided to give snowboarding another try (been skiing for 45 years) ... and the Step On is the reason. I just found it so weird that it took so long to come up with a non strap binding.
Agreed, been riding union strata's for 3 years, and the burton 2022 with the squishy ruler's boots have so much power to the edge and the foot to ground contact through the boot is incredible. The boot fits like a glove as well, but I got some bulging heels and a narrow-ish foot.
I have problems with Skinny Ankles/Heel Lift. I bought a set of Burton J-bars and they solved my Ankle/Heel issues.
Whaaat , the lever stays up when you step out? Damn, I never noticed that. I've holding up the lever and stepping out at the same time all this time...
You nailed it. Fast, to the point relevant information. And you know how to ride!
Lots of other youtubers/reviewers could learn from you.
Thank you, very clear and precise review...most reviews just race through without detail!
Great review - best one I’ve seen! Thank you!
Although it’s not an “option to replace the toe hooks” (@4:50) it’s important to note they are directly replaceable and interchangeable with the Toe Hook 1.0. The binding baseplate is still the same. It’s part of the modularity Burton has worked so hard to implement in this binding.
If that's the case, what exactly is the non-replaceable bit again?
This is true but we were told it wont be up-gradable to the consumer - lucky for all of us we just need to get new bindings as any generation boot will work due to the modularity!
Why won't Burton sell the 2.0 toe hook if it's interchangeable?
@@scottmagruder6907 probably because too many Jerry’s would either break them swapping them out, destroy themselves after improperly installing them, or both. It’s a fairly straight forward swap but as it stands, Burton requests a binding with a broken Toe Hook to be sent in via W48 Warranty for replacement on site.
Best review of this product. Thank you for the care in your videos!
Mark, thank you for your honest input regarding the Step-on 2.0 & corresponding boots. I've been on the fence but your 2yr. testing with this system speaks volumes! Sh*t brother, I don't need another pair of boots & bindings . . . well, maybe I do! 😃
the lounge music is killin' me lol
Aha, that was my bad. Shane said, “no more saxophone Fitz.” 😂
Fawcett = World Cup dominator, y'all.
Super helpful! Just got mine today after lots of research and this was by far the best video I've seen.
I watch a lot of review channels and I just gotta say. Y'all are doing something right. I love your reviews and your personalities. Also seeing your riding skills helps me a ton to trust y'all know what your talking about. Anyways my name is Matty P. and I hope this finds you well!!
Burton should make the new toe hooks available as replacement part.
Burton are way way ahead of the GAME! Let see in 5 years how many people are riding, some kind of "STEP ON" I had the old version and cant wait to try these!!
you should check out the original k2 clickers from like 20 years ago. way ahead of the game still and nothin on the market is like it.
@@ethanbrasseur5612 I did! I lived with guys that had them. I had the Burton ones
Got v2 normal bindings and photon wide boots. Very happy so far. This must be the new standard for snowboarding. Straps suck.
Hardest thing I’m seeing is finding a store that carries them in stock near me in NH.
Almost everyone I go to the mountains with ski, so the speed of steeping in will be game changing for keeping up with them.
To verify which of all 3 step on bindings has the highest back. Tryna to use a 2nd pair on skiboards and need a high back to install a buckle strap at top for better control
I think the genesis bindings are the highest. I noticed they were higher from the regular ones when i bought my set
Best review on these! Well done.
Glad you liked it!
Good that you dont need new boots
I miss Jake. I'm old school.
>> Drifter boots with si-x stepin on 6.9 alp for cruzin/mountain
>> Fire boots with Physics stepin on 7.8 prime AND 5.7 prime giant slalom/slalom
that is all
Hi there, thanks for your contents 👍 I tripped over this vid while searching for Step on reviews and I've found a lot of people complaining about boot lift on frontside turns. I saw a guy that could literally put 4 fingers in between his boot's sole and the binding's footbed (on the heel I mean). I personally know some step on users that had to stick some sort of 1cm thick foam wedge on the heel zone of the footbed to compensate and solve the problem. Ain't that a problem for you too? Don't you feel a delay on frontside turns?
Have you ever run into an issue with taking them out/in , when you need to help someone that fell midway through the trail/slope?
I’m afraid it would be hard to step on after I helped a friend or someone that had trouble. The steep of blue or black, there’s not a flat spot to put them back on?
I did a demo with their first model released and I could fee the clips at my toes. Please tell me that has been fixed. Great review
They have a “wide” version of the boots now.
🤙🏼
Has anyone had trouble with the boot having some heel lift when going into a toeside edge? I just got a set for this season and am wondering if this is normal with the step ons. I don't know if I should return them or not.
Are you gonna review supermatic?
We will if they reach out to us!
great video...looking to make the jump. What would you estimate the ramp up time is to ride comfortably with STEP ON's ...are there elements that are starkly different than traditional bindings / boots. Thanks...much appreciated
A little late reply but...the only thing really is mental, basically trusting that you won't come out of them (you won't)
Awesome video! any chance you could get me a hook up on the toe hooks to add to the older bindings I bought last year?
Hi James - as far as we know there will not be a upgrade other than purchasing a new pair ! srry man
Sorry but you can replace the toe hook
There some videos that show how to do it
Hi Mark. Compared to Burton Mission binding where would you put the Genesis considering flex & softness ? Is Genesis a softer category compared to Mission ? Thank you .
Mission would be the softer model ( in standard strap bindings ) - We should note that there isn't a Step ON version of the mission either !
How does the board feel compare? I hear it's damp
Not sure what you mean by "damp" but the heel-to-toe response is phenomenal
Are the 2019 boots still compatible with the 2022 binding? Or do you need to upgrade both boot and binding from the initial step-on products?
Hi Stephen! All Boot Years will be compatible with the 2.0 Binding , so the cost to upgrade will only be new bindings.
would the genesis step on be good for all mountain and also powder? what step on boot should i pair with the genesis?
Yes for sure - we would choose the Genesis no question! Mark is using the Photon and Shane has the Kendo stepon - really depends on your preference in lacing systems :) Both of these choices are medium flex and work very well with the Genesis !
@@tributeboardshop Thanks very much! Love this video
I got the white Genesis binding, it looks great and feels good. However my mesh hammock broke off on the first day, it just disappeared. I assumed it came off when I unlatched... The Mesh is held on by a single flimsy rivet and the boot latch can catch and break it off without you knowing. The biggest problem when I contacted burton is that they don’t hold white spare parts so they were going to replace the whole Hi-back with a black one so I will have mis-match blinding. Later I was told they didn’t even have a spare Gensis Hi-back so they can’t help me. They offered a refund but I was on the mountain and no local shop sells the genesis so I was stuck with a broken binding for the rest of the trip. Without the mesh, the boot latch gets caught in the hi-back hole so you can’t easily step into the binding. This really wrecked my holiday and was not impressed with how the burton warranty department handle this…. One would expect more from such an expensive binding…
You got discount?
Wouldn't the clicks be a good thing? Kinda like the seat belt click ya know
It still clicks when you step on, it’s a tighter fit now which is better.
Does anyone know if these boots are compatible with traditional bindings?
Just get the non step on version of the boot!
The design of the boot interface , where it locks into a SO binding , will not allow it to fit correctly into a standard binding !
@@tributeboardshop It will fit if you remove the heel clip
You should have informed everyone that the tow hooks are replaceable and interchangeable from the old to the new it's just Burton's choice not to offer that part as an update update to their old version
Do you know with the new 2022 ones are people still sorta getting that hot spot around the pinkey toe area or have they fixed that
Hi Damon. Seems some sizes have that hot spot worse than others. Also, If you have a more narrow foot than average, you are immune to the issue. Burton knows about it, and will modify the lastes to resolve the issue for next season.
The original K2 clicker is still unmatched IMO and they did it years before burton. something about having no backplate is so clean and unique.
The clicker had a ton of medial lateral movement, if that’s your thing (they were so tweakable.) I remember having to scrape them like crazy when I was riding in Ontario from all of the ice.
Dude, change the background music please. Other than that thanks!
