Moneys been tight, I will contribute next one. Thanks for the lessons
Love your videos! Are you playing an AxeFX perchance? Cheers!
Can you tell me what your amp settings for that tone was. Ie. bass treble etc.
I can’t seem to get it. Thx for the tutorial and though
Yes, one of the greatest endings of all time. PERIOD.
Yes mam
This song never gets old. It's a beautiful gem.

@@sanuthmenuka3949 I wondered how many folks caught the "baby blue" part of the lyric in that last episode. It was a great touch by the producers...or whoever had the idea to put this song in.
I just binge watched Breaking Bad that ends in this iconic song, one that hits me in the heart each time I hear it. At 55 I’ve not played my guitar for over 10 years and it came out inspired by this great song. Badfinger is a rock story like many that is tragic but the memories this band recorded are here to enjoy, relive memories, and let younger generations know of such great, less known bands that really had talent writing and performing.
Such a tragic, and all too quickly of an end to a talented group of musicians. Glad you picked your guitar back up, I hope you’re still going at it!
I remember hearing this for the first time in the last episode of Breaking Bad. Have always wanted to learn it since then and now I can. Thank you man :)
+Jokull You are welcome Jokull. cheers
This song wrecks me every time.
Me to
Me 5
Me 6. (What happened to Me 3?)
I'm going to have it for my funeral. Not that I cook meth ...
@@jamoncure he couldn't stop mething around
Fantastic lesson. I have been playing this song wrong for 30 years. You filled in a lot of holes for me. Thanks.
Almost 50 years for me,
This is Heaven..
@@konarain Hahaha same here....
Haven't finished learning it yet so I haven't messed up yet! Should have it down before next year.
Myself included. But I love playing this song.
My old band played this in A rather than B.
My favorite song of all time, I absolutely love this song. I loved it from the very first time I heard it, back when I was barely a teenager in the early 70's. I don't know what it is about it exactly, but it just touches my soul, it's sad but beautiful at the same time. This is the best demo/lesson I have found.
Mine also!
I don't know either.
I am not a musician, but I KNOW there is nothing less than magic in that guitar lick combined with those chords.
This is the only lesson to this song that sounds like it !!! This is the most accurate version !!!
Well. This is Shut Up and Play. He is the BEST in the world at this stuff. Andy is a powerhouse of music knowledge. No one else is even close. We play guitars every day, and we watch Andy’s videos to see the REAL DEAL. He says, “well, here’s how some guys play this, and it’s ok, but here is what is really is.” And THAT IS WHAT IT REALLY IS. No BS. Just the facts, Ma’am! Baby Blue is no exception. One of my all time favorites too. In my top 10 ever. Badfinger, what a tragedy. If you haven’t watched their story, watch it. Very sad. Love this band so much. Thank you Pete Ham. You will live on forever in your beautiful songs.
I think it's about a woman that Pete Ham met on tour. Relationship didn't last too long.
I don't always listen to Badfinger, but when I do, so do my neighbors. 👍
I think you play this song better than Peter did. Well done!
What a perfect guitar solo, so fitting for the song.
I think Joey Molland played these parts.
The solo Joey plays on Kenny Rogers show is amazing
I'm 57 and remember this from my childhood. It's a classic. Badfinger has a number of great songs you can bang out on the Acoustic or crank out with the band. Thanks. :)
Just watched the final episode of Breaking Bad and immediately decided I wanted to learn "Baby Blue". Imagine my surprise and delight to find that you'd already done a tutorial on the song. The story of Badfinger is a real tragedy and a lesson to us all. What a terrible shame that Pete Ham and Tom Evans both committed suicide. I'll be learning this song as a tribute to them.
I really don't know exactly what you said or did to make this gel in my head, but it worked. After many failed attempts to learn this jewel of a song, I finally see what's going on here. And it's not that hard. Tomorrow, I'm takin' this song to the woodshed.
“I won”
“Say my name”
“I am the danger”
“I am the one who knocks”
“You all know exactly who I am”
“This is is not meth”
“You’re god damn right”
If I missed any comment them down in the comments idk go crazy
Jessyyy!!!
"I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it"
Stay out of my territory.
I feel alive
I could have saved her. But I didn’t.
Your lesson is perfection! Even if I cannot do the C shapes, or much of the other stuff, as a guitar player, it is an absolute pleasure to see your work. The way you dissect a song like this is simply amazing. And your rendition is spot on. This song was burned into my brain the first time I ever heard it, WAY WAY WAY long ago, and you really nailed it. You make it look easy, and of course it’s anything but. In my top 10 of all time. THANK YOU!!!!!
Andy, one of your BEST ones. “Some guys play it like this..... but THIS is how it’s played.” Yes, a barre chord nightmare, for sure. You are the BEST, man! We proudly wear our Shut Up t-shirts wherever we go!
Really detailed breakdown of the recording and all round amazing song !! I was laughing at myself when you said “most people play this” and I said that’s me, I am “most” people hahah . Really crazy how that first chord is broken into those 2 pairs of strings. Such a subtle thing but makes such a huge difference. Been a while since I’ve learned songs this way, thank you!!
I just wanna say how much I enjoyed watching you take this song apart and share it. Thank you.
I used to play guitar, blues and classic rock. I have arthritis and quit playing 12 + yrs ago.
I had this song on a 45. I remember being in elementary school and having a broken heart from a young lady and listening to this song to cope. It was 71-72.
Thanks again. Makes me want to try to play again. Still have a Strat and an Alvarez acoustic.
This is a great lesson. It's dead-on accurate, and there are any number of lessons out there that aren't. Great job.
Woke up today wanting to learn Baby Blue....found this video...well done...in other words...freakin' awesome!!!
Perfect. Been playing this "my own way" for nearly 50 years and you've finally shown me the right way. Getting to work on it today, but have to transpose it for my voice. An excellent tutorial. Many thanks.
For what it's worth. Whenever I am searching for a song lesson, I look to see if you offer it first. Yours are the best and most accurate. Thanks for all the great work.
Thanks for this demo. This and all the other Badfinger songs came about during the most magical part of my life. High School, guitar player and band member, beautiful girlfriend who is still with me today...the love of my life. I still get the same feeling when I hear and play these although I play them much better and more true thanks to you. Absolutely the best tutor online!
how can someone dislike this video?
Morons
they know nothing about music
Ultim4te guitarist because they are moronic heathens with the brain capacity of a fucking seed
Ultim4te guitarist I was going to say the same thing.
SERIOUSLY!!! I didn't even come from this or any of the eras of the music I love and Baby Blue is definitely one of my favorite songs ever. That riff and progression is just purely magical and epic!
Haven’t tried those C shape bar chords yet ( I’m a 63 year old mechanic as well as musician and my trade hasn’t been kind to ,my hands and fingers…) but it definitely changes the tone of the song if you dont use them and they are definitely a big part of the appeal of the recording IMO. Thanks so much for sharing.
Wonderful lesson ... the C shaped chords really make it right.. I'm with you on this is one of the best guitar driven songs ever written. Yeah, really sad story on this band.
The Woodys Surf Instrumental Band what happened to them?
Stripper Baby Check out their tragic story... Just type in yt: Badfinger Tragic Story...
I AGRRE BUT THEYRE GIVING ME HELL. THE FINESSE OF CERTAIN FINGERS AS OPPOSED TO THE PRESSURE ON THE BAR... LANE
Andy ! You are always hitting on the right material besides doing such an amazing job !
I am in your debt !
It's so easy to picture George singing and playing this one.
Agree top notch and sound great - details even down to using black background and shirt so you see only hands playing, and showing the way others play it differently.
Ridiculously great song and executed by a fine guitarist. Great stuff.
I was playing it 30 years before breaking bad. I don't know why anybody would care that some TV show used it.
But I was playing it in A, rather than B, but using the C barre that you referred to.
Always been one of my fav bands and i wasnt born until the 80’s
The only instructional video that I’ve been that plays it the right way, according to the videos I seen of the band, and my ear. Great lesson.
That one E chord with the stretch! I learned that chord on my own a fw yrs ago, I just had no idea this song had that chord. Now I can finally play Baby Blue!! Speechless! Bravo!! Thank you!!
Always loved the shimmering sustain of that opening lick!!! All time great melody too.
One of the best bands of all time. Thanks for making this video, I can play an acoustic version of this, now I will have to learn this on electric.
Breaking Bad brought this song to another generation. Was also the perfect song and ending for that series. Always loved the song and the band.❤️👍
I had the pleasure of meeting Joey Molland at a concert industry event a few years ago. He was such a nice man and seemed genuinely happy to meet and talk to one of his fans. He signed my original album copy of Straight Up!, took a photo with me and gave my wife a hug. I told him Badfinger was one of my two favorite bands - the Beatles being the other. I also talked to Mike Gibbins a few years before he passed away in Florida. He too was very accommodating and was very happy I enjoyed Badfinger “from the early days.” Saw the Airwaves lineup of Badfinger with Joey and Tom Evans and nobody seemed to know who they were until they performed Come and Get It. I thought it was sad, but knowing the band’s story I was not surprised. A few years later I got a Japanese copy of Wish You We’re Here and was blown away! It is easily in the same league as Abbey Road.
I admire your truthful-humble approach when you admit to making a mistake while showing us how to play all the songs you play. (Even the greatest guitarists in the world, the professional musicians, make mistakes on every tune they play but are able to cover/recover from them seemingly effortlessly w/o the listener ever catching it. I have done so on every performance but never have 99.99% of the audiences noticed! BUT I DO (LOL).
You Sir are a true Professional and an enjoyment to listen to and, more importantly, learn from!
Kudos. -Sincerely, FH-
Dude fantastic!!!
I loved watching this. it is definitely beyond my capabilities now but future is open. this song is my generation of rock.
you always seem to get the sound perfect.
cheers Mike
I don't even play guitar (wish I did!), but I frequently come here just to listen to your rock-solid covers when I want to hear the solos isolated. You're the best of all I've heard on UA-cam. Thanks...
GREAT Guitar work and fantastic song. What a time I had in my life in the Seventies. Thanks millions!
Great song! B.B. introduced me to this song. Great job. (And as always, your tone is killer.)
+spicykimchi1 Thank you, yeah when it came on in the final scene, it was an emotional crusher. I was really happy that people rediscovered it, it's such a classic record. cheers
Thanks for a fantastic lesson, it’s so great to ‘meet’ someone that shares an appreciation for the wonderful Badfinger, your love of them comes out in your playing, plus you went to a lot of trouble to get the authentic tone, much appreciated
This is a jem of a lesson for one of my favorite 70s songs! I learned it years ago but you've nailed it perfectly. Gonna relearn this now. Your guitars sound great. Your mix of this sounds fantastic. Thank you so much!
“Hey bro let’s listen to-“
**fades to both of us on the ground bleeding out as baby blue plays**
that little lick is kinda like Birthday...what a cool song. One of my favs too!
I love your commentary about the songs, playing, etc...stuff I always love to talk about, but don't get to much anymore...
Incredible lesson! Everything about it was perfect! I appreciate the commentary! C shaped chords are tough on the hands, but a necessity in so many songs! THANKS!
Thank you for this lesson... recently finished watching breaking bad and fell in love with this song.. now I am fan of bad finger... this is the best and accurate lesson for the song.
GREAT tone! Been using these chord positions for 30 years...tossing in a mild chorus ices it.:) Amazing classic tune...and thanks!
Guess I got what I deserved
Kept you waiting there too long, my love
All that time, without a word
Did you really think that I'd forget
And regret
The special love I have for you
My baby blue
All those days became so long
Did you really think I'd do you wrong?
Dixie, when I let you go
Thought you'd realize I would know
I would show
The special love I have for you
My baby blue
What can I do? What can I say?
Except I want you by my side
How can I show you? Show me the way
Don't you know the times I've tried?
Guess that's all I have to say
Except the feeling just grows stronger everyday
Just one thing before I go
Take good care, baby, let me know
Let it grow
The special love you have for me
My Dixie dear
F'n Cool! I had all there albums and seen the doc. Glad to still hear them played.
So nice to find shut up and play when I'm searching a song! Accuracy is key, sound is phenomenal and usually love the history that comes with it!
LOVED that song and period. I was a young teenager.....Talk about the memories !!!!!!
Fabulous tutorial of this classic song, loved this since I first heard it about two years ago and in the 60s/70s I never heard it. So very well done and thanks to Badfinger originally!
i loved this song the first time i heard it as a kid. it had just come out then. all these years later i still love it. beautiful all those decades ago. beautiful now.

I have always loved this tune and others by Badfinger and I must say that your tutorial on "Baby Blue" is Suberb !! Thanks to you, one of the best guitar teachers on UA-cam !!
Thanks for posting this. It's a cool song to play and I had a lot of fun learning it. You were right, it is a real workout for the fretting hand!
That badass Burgundy Les Paul shows us what its ALL about ...oh, the sound lent to the creativity of the Artists that gave us these songs!!!...
Great instruction on n absolute Classic. Never thought I be interested in learning this tune, until now. Awesome job and spot on.

I grew up with this song. You f-ing nailed it. Excellent no bs lots of detail tutorial.
Incredible lesson! This chords are really amazing
Now I can go to sleep - trying to figure out the end riff. Easy when you are shown the moves! Thanks from Mike Down Under. Ps it really is a sleeping giant of classic rock !
Wow, stellar. Thanks SO much. What a beautiful song (and tragic story). I've been dissecting songs for my cover bands for 40+ years now, and this one is at the top. Nice LP btw!
Commanding lesson! The attention to detail is fantastic. Thank you. And I have the exact same guitar even color. Sweet!
You did a fantastic job on the solo. I'm so glad I discovered this video!
Since this Gentleman and Guitar Instructor Extraordinaire doesn't mention it often, I will.
Don't forget to Donate something please. Five dollars, ten, twenty or more if you can afford it.
One on one lessons with someone of his caliber, and outstanding ear, would run well over $100/month.
More importantly, I get 10% of all donations for writing this.....jk
+MyworstEnemy That 5 bucks I sent you is starting to pay off, hahaha. Thanks bud, I really appreciate your support. cheers
+Shutup & Play - Guitar Tutorials - Really impressive teaching as well as playing.
You mention in the description your rig, what monitors do you use?
when I learn a song, I send him a twenty on PayPal. Big deal! This man is the BEST!!! If you saw him in bar, would you not buy him lots of pints? If so send him some for the lessons.
Well said John! He has such an amazing ear for detail. It was a bit embarrassing to learn that I'd been playing "More than a Feeling" wrong for so many years lol.
I have been playing "From the Beginning" wrong for about 35 years. Not a joke. Now I am spot-on.
This blows my mind. Thankyou so much.
You nailed this one, bro. You're just amazin.
my friend, you have said everything I would about this song and band. I was so sad to hear "the rest of the story" about how they were totally ripped off. Thank you very much for all this! I don't even think I can learn it haha it's so intricate as you pointed out.
Excellent video! Perfectly played, very clear, easy-to-follow instructions. (And I agree, one of the best pop tunes ever.)
Man, you weren't kidding...I have a LOT of work ahead of me, especially with the barre-chord from hell, the C-shape. I have avoided that one like the plague all these years..........But thanks, as always, for inspiring me to keep trying to expand my abilities with this great old song and really helpful tutorial.
Right on!! You're the man.
You are without any doubt The Very Best Teacher on The Web! Direct, concise, accurate, and very easy to understand all of the passages through out All of your Videos...the other wanna be nuckle heads need to watch you and take some notes ! This is one of my favorite songs and have seen so many others trying to play it correctly you my friend do the song honest and True!,
KILLED it! Thank you, good sir.
GREAT JOB on one of my favorite songs. Became HUGE BF fan in 1970.
I always played BB in C shape with strings tuned down a whole step to match the key of B. Makes it easy to do the walk downs.
That said, several YT teachers have said they believe Pete used a capo on 4th fret and, I must admit, it does make sense (rather than make your fingers do unnatural acts). Of course, Joey plays the lead in standard open tuning.
Add the Mike Gibbons drumming, Tommy Evans bass and high harmony, and you have an absolutely classic song. 😊❤
Great lesson and excellent teacher! Thank you very much!
I've known that "C" shape bar chord exists since I started playing. Now I guess it's time to learn to use it.
Brilliant lesson of a brilliant song.. Excellent instructional style. Thank you!
This is brilliant!! Unlocked a couple of areas that I was struggling with by ear. Thanks for posting!!
Superb! Thanks so much. Great analysis. Great playing.
This makes my heart flutter! ❤
The tears are pouring like rain!
Just donated myself - well worth it- one of the best lesson sites out there
Something so beautiful about this song
Man I love this. Great job.
Wow! Great lesson!
Great job breaking this down and getting the tone perfect.
You're at your best teaching here. Thank you.
Genius! You nailed it!
This is the best lesson for this song. I looked everywhere and this was so much easy to follow. Thank you so much!
Absolutely a fantastic lesson for this fantastic song. What could be better than to be a guitar player and to have a song like this to learn from a wonderful lesson and teacher like this. Thanks for your generosity and talent ✌️💪
Andy is the best guitar teacher on youtube. Hands down. Money very tight, but will donate when possible. Not complicated, but those c shape barre chords are a killer !
Andy. Just a killer. Thanks for this. Badfinger. Tragic. Loved them. Love you! We proudly wear our Shut Up and Play T shirts!!!!
amazing@! Thank you for this!
Thank you for this absolute gem. Perry
Awesome lesson! thank you!
I love videos like these because they remind me of how absolutely hopeless and terrible at guitar I am.
I came here because I saw the last episode of breaking bad and had to learn this song. Incredible lesson.Playing a difficult song perfectly. Awesome
Fantastic tuition , many thanks 👍
