Six times! That is absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for sharing. Making one of my patterns more than once is the greatest compliment and 6 times just boggles my mind!
Just bought the pattern and can’t wait to get it on my needles. You probably did it realize at the time that you designed this for me personally. LOL. I bought 6 beautiful skeins of malabringi Rosalinda ( no longer produced) and tried to design my own large shawl. Used a whole skein and came out with 6 inch width of fabric. Guess I’m not ready to design. I went searching and came across this absolutely BEAUTIFUL shawl that I swear you designed for me personally. I’ll post it on Facebook when it’s done. Sincere thank you.
I cannot wait to see your finished shawl and it tickles me pink that you like this shawl. I must say it hasn't gotten the attention that some of my more popular pieces have gotten - but that there are others out there that love it as much as I do makes me happy!
Got my pattern, got my needles, got my worsted weight. I am loving how quickly this is knitting up, although I've knitted with fingering weight for so long, ww feels rather bulky! I am doing this shawl in all white as a gift for a baptism, but since it is knitting quickly, I may do a second one in a color for myself. I'll let you know after I do the lace section. I've just discovered you and love your style of presentation so much.
hello, watching your videos is very relaxing. I love the way you talk about your projects and your instructions in other techniques and different things. Very funny and entertaining. Good job. I could never do this kind of thing. I can knit but not make videos.
My 12 1/2 year old son's voice is cracking too, so I feel you on that. I love that shawl! I like 'em big and that's just perfect. And I have plenty of worsted yarn just sitting around!
I have purchased a ton of Malibrigo Rios and going fun-crazy knitting hats as Christmas presents and then OOOO OOOO NO! I set my needles down and I had purple fingers! Have you dont a video on overcoming this issue with this yearn? Right now, I hesitate to give away any gifts made with it.
Your best bet would be to go to the Malabrigo website and use the contact us link to send them a question. Other than that you can google search for setting hand dyed yarns that are running. Some people soak in a water/vinegar/citric acid solution but I don't really have any experience with that. Red is the most fugitive of dyes and anything with red in it can have that problem.
Hey Barbara! This pattern is beautiful. I love Malibrigo Old English Roses colorway. Its similar but the pinks literally like the old roses my grandma used to have. Oh, by the way, I tried the mosaic knitting a bit in a cowl and I've never had tension problems but I noticed I was knitting much tighter. I have to work on that probably with a bigger needle. But I loved it!
Old English Roses is delicious! Mosaic does tighten up because of all of the slipped stitches. In all of my mosaic designs I call for needle sizes that are at least one size above what is normally used. You'll have to find what works for you.
I'm making the blanket from your newest book! I wasn't too sure about a mostly charted pattern as a newer knitter, but your book is amazing and I'm already on the last chart! This might just be my next cast on! 💗 I totally adore your patterns, so well written and easy to understand.
I am so glad to hear that the chart is working out for you! For lace there really isn't a better way to convey the info. And I'd love to see you knit this shawl next!
I love this yarn you used . please tell me where I can buy them .Does it comes in blue or other colors. I I'm knitting a shawl. JUST FALL ON MY WAIST IN THE BACK HOW MANY YARDS DO I NEED TO BUY? THANKS.
All of the information on yardage etc can be found in the pattern. The yarn is Malabrigo Rios and it comes in a lot of amazing colors. You can find it at many local yarn stores as well as online stores.
I'm not a big fan of texture stitches, but the one you chose is very sweet! I am contemplating how a Japanese lace pattern might go on the border, because there are some of those that are easily increased in pattern. I assume you were just going for something simpler here? It's lovely - I'm just nuts for complexity....
I am super picky about texture stitches and I ended up making this one up on my own LOL. This is the second time I've used it and I'll probably use it again. I feel it has just enough to keep it interesting but is simple enough to be a general "field". I was trying for something that would be simpler, just because it was soooo much knitting. I like more complex things as well and I might just do another in this shape with a more complex trim. Do you like the worsted weight or should I change it up? People tend to love fingering weight.
@@WatchBarbaraKnit Well, I gravitate toward fingering. But I wouldn't mind a good DK option. I've got a few skeins of DK that haven't found a good pattern yet. (Though, I haven't looked that hard as they end up way down on my to-do list. So many choices!)
WatchBarbaraKnit I would pay for the pattern and a tutorial. Maybe add a tutorial to Etsy? I am a basic knitter, never done lace, etc. So I’d love some instruction and maybe help if needed. Love this pattern but perhaps it’s not for a basic knitter. Thanks for replying!
@@jovebo3015 Believe it or not, I have been trying to figure out how to offer "video patterns". I am giving it serious research and I have to figure out how to "sell" a video in a way that won't end up with it being posted on the internet for free by someone with ... less scruples than I would like. There are some platforms that are designed for teaching and classes that I am thinking might work?
it is a beautiful shawl. Bought the pattern on my to do knit list :) Love the colour as well love your tutorials as well Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year :)
You could continue the lace portion for quite some time to make it bigger - but it really is a super big shawl. I am not a small person (3X) and it engulfs me.
I would love this pattern - it's beautiful. However, I'm a petite senior citizen and would like to know if I can adjust this pattern for my smaller size body. Thanks in advance for your help!
Hi! I am so glad you like the pattern. Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to make it smaller. What one would have to do is figure out when to stop the triangle shaping an switch to the other shaping and still have the math come out correctly for the lace trim. It's a good bit of math.
I have several shawl tutorials on this channel that are very, very simple shawls. The most popular one is the crescent shaped one: ua-cam.com/video/WeWPN2g_Crk/v-deo.html but if you look in my tutorials playlist you'll see the others!

Other knitters who use Patreon have videos and other things (like discounts, etc.) that can be accessed only by their patrons. Could this be one avenue for pattern tutorials or how-to videos? I bought this pattern before I watched this video. I am really liking the looks of it.
I'm so glad you like the video! Thank you for the thoughts on Patreon. I have looked into that way of doing things. Patreon does not have a way (that I know of) of privately hosting videos. What you have to do is make it, upload it to UA-cam, and set it to Private. Then you send the links to Patreons. The problem with that is that anyone with the link can view the video. There is nothing stopping someone from sharing the links with their friends or posting it to a knitting forum. I just have to decide if that is worth the risk? What I've been looking at recently are the "online class" websites like Teachery, but they have monthly fees and I have to figure out if I'll sell enough courses to cover the fees LOL!
This is beautiful! Have you considered Blueprint/Craftsy for teaching/tutorials? (They are going back to the Craftsy branding, I believe.) There you can have the videos online, people buy access to the videos but not download them. The videos are presented in ’episodes’ for different tutorials, if you will. I am a member there and have bought several for different crafts. And they are always available whenever I need them. Just subscribed, btw. 😃
TN Marketing purchased the rights to the Bluprint/Craftsy video library but I do not know if they will be producing any new ones. During the Blueprint/Craftsy era I discussed making videos for them a couple of times but the timing of it never worked out. It is a lot of work and when they made the shift to Bluprint it really negatively impacted the amount of money the teachers received from their work. For now I am sticking to using this platform because I control what happens to my videos - I am not at the whim of another company that can choose to change things whenever they like. That said, I have been looking at online course development software and trying to decide if I want to try and make some classes of my own! I am so glad you like my videos and I hope to continue to earn your viewership.
Respectfully, while I appreciate your videos, they're a bit misnamed. Seems it should be "Watch Barbara Talk About Knits". Somehow I'm missing the actually knitting part.
When I started this channel I had no idea if anyone would watch it. I figured maybe a couple of dozen people would check it out. I tried to come up with a generic phrase that included both my name and knitting and that would be memorable. Over the years I have tried very hard to listen to the comments here and in the FaceBook group (which I created in response to a request here) and the videos that I produce continue to evolve based on both verbal feedback and analysis of the UA-cam analytics regarding viewer response. The videos where I am simply knitting are the most labor intensive and most consistently under-viewed unless they have the words "Free Pattern" in the title. I know that not everyone is going to like my videos or my channel, and that is OK. UA-cam is a huge place and I am confident that you will be able to find something that perfectly suits your needs.
