Vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan . The song was originally called suicide but the label wouldn’t let them call it that so they changed it to chop suey. It’s about how if somebody dies from a drug overdose or suicide they deaths are looked at differently by people/ the church etc. Darin sings lead on a few songs which are a nice change up. There should be a few requests for songs coming here soon but I like “question” for the harmonies and “ spiders” is another favorite of mine. They are very anti war/ Armenian genicide and usually have something to say in their songs. Great band. Nice reaction. And yes the man show was awesome….. remember the man show boy? Lol
You know your SOAD :) 15 or so years ago I was a musician that did a few tribute bands back when live bar music was actually making money. My first real band I was Darron. We would dress up like them and stuff, was a blast. Darron was really the first in depth guitar style I emulated. We actually weren't that great haha, they are soooo hard to emulate due to their insanely unique vocals, but bar crowds didnt notice as much. We actually got fairly popular locally mainly cuz we were crazy on stage and put on a fun show. SOAD is amazing.
East & west of the Mississippi River (theoretically with a few exceptions)- there is a convention for the call letters that identify the broadcast radio (and TV) stations. East of the Mississippi the call letters start with a “W”. West of the Mississippi they start with a “K”. In Mexico they start with an “X”. In Canada with a “C”. KROQ (106.7FM) is taken from KROQ (1500 AM), originally billed as "The ROQ (rock) of Los Angeles". They were very influential in the 60’s, ‘70’s, & ‘80’s in bringing awareness of new bands and new music. One DJ (Rodney Bingenheimer) developed a reputation for being the first American DJ to identify new artists and play "edgy new bands" such as Blondie, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Duran Duran, The Cure, Joan Jett, The Hollywood Squares, Hole, Symbol Six, No Doubt, Blur, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Bangles, X, The Pandoras, Germs, and many others. So KROQ gave System of a Down much love.
Seems like John the drummer is a pretty chill dude compared to the others. Or, they portray him that way in the videos. He's the same in Toxicity and BYOB.
New subscriber, love System of a Down. Amazing band/musicianship, deep lyrics, and important messages, Serj's vocals are so unique and beautiful. Check out *Prison Song* with Lyrics. Thank you for reacting to SOAD, looking forward to more 🙂
The drummer is keeping the beat alive. He is the true heart behind the music.

guitarist's name is Daron, they have a tune in which he is the lead singer called Lonely Day. majority of the time he's harmonizing / backup singing
They wanted to name the song “Suicide”, but their label resisted. So they shortened it to “Chop Suey”.
