So happy to see another young person discover the great Steve Marriott. Steve was greatly admired by other musicians, HP released 6 albums, and for about 5 years blazed across stadiums with absolute killer performances. Sadly, today they are not as well known as some other popular bands of the era, and many young people have never heard of them. Steve also played with another British band from 1965-69 called Small Faces. SF's were brilliant and hugely popular in Europe, but sadly never came to the US so many have never heard of them. If you like soul and R&B, I recommend : "I Wonder" & I Don't Need No Dr (live from Fillmore)" and you will be amazed by Small Faces "You Need Lovin", the inspiration for Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love.

You have just jumped down a rabbit hole that will chomp you up and spit you out... but in a GOOD way!!! Pentatonix has ALWAYS been like this! Little run down, in case no one gave you the history. The High Tenor, Mitch Grassi, the baritone that started off the song - Scott Hoying, and the female Kirsty Maldonado, all grew up and sang together in their high school choir in Texas. From what I understand, singing professionally was all these three wanted to do. They have been singing with music and a Capella for YEARS. Not long after they graduated from high school, they found out about this 'little' show called The Sing Off. It was actually a televised competition for a Capella groups, with the winner receiving a $1 million recording contract with Sony. They wanted to take part but found out that the rules for the show stated each group had to have a minimum of 5 members. So, they started searching for two other members that would be willing to join them and join this competition. One of their friends introduced them to Avi Kaplan, the one whose low tones you were talking about, who I believe was in college at the time. He's a classically trained bass. At that point, all they needed was a vocal percussionist. They discovered Kevin Olusola in an online video, beatboxing and playing the cello. They all got together, came up with the name of Pentatonix as an homage to the Pentatonic scale, all within 6 WEEKS of the start of The Sing Off. They went on to win season 3, and they've never looked back. Since then, there's only been one change in the membership. Avi left the group because he could no longer keep up with the scheduling because of his family, and Matt Sallee joined to be the new bass. I believe he is also classically trained. Pentatonix has a MAJOR following, and we LOVE seeing first time reactions to them because they literally leave people speechless! Other videos by them you should check out: DaftPunk medley- their first grammy, Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy - a music piece with no vocals sung by a group with no instruments, and I believe their second grammy, Bohemian Rhapsody -whom even a member of Queen LOVES to listen to and Learn to Love Again - a Pentatonix original. Someone else mentioned them, but I will tie them in. A group that has become just as popular in the Country Music scene is a group called Home Free, who just happen to be season 4 winners of the exact same show, The Sing Off.

2:55-2:59, honestly theres a bit of treble in the voice, the airy high oitch is not underectable, and especially "play that funky music til you die" line doesnt sound soulful. Just to comment. But none the less this is a classic!! The guitar intro, the drum solo, the guitar solo, and the story teller style, the harmony was cool. They did this really good.

Ronnie wrote this in honor of the black guys that played and deserved recognition. He had such admiration and respect for them.

The seventies had the best music ever, with bands that sang to the rhythm of groove, soul and disco. Bands like Wild Cherry, the Temptations, the O'Jays and more... and how about the sounds of Motown. They no longer sing like that, neither with the voices they had nor with the words of the songs, today everyone who stands in front of a microphone and screams, thinks he is a singer. Or, He may be a singer but without a soul.
