In honesty, the M1 iMac is still AWESOME value considering you are getting a fully functional display with an actual OS. The Studio display is great if you have an existing MPB, Mac mini etc. Really wish we saw a higher refresh rate but at least you don't have to pay $1000 for the stand like on the Pro Display XDR :) Still remember that in the crowd at WWDC hahaha. Which display are you getting?
Will be getting the Studio Display, as soon as it is available in stores without 8-10w wait time… 2200€ here in Austria, hoping for a discount to 2000€ or less.
Studio display for me sitting on my desk - so close to worth it for me, should’ve been same price as the LG 5k (and that one discontinued), and webcam really should’ve been better. Of course pro motion / mini led would’ve been great but probably then it’s a 2500 monitor.
Nice comparison. I think the XDR is also part of a sales trick Apple (and everyone else) uses to make their products look reasonably priced called anchoring. If you saw $1599.00 compared to other similar monitors you’d see it as outrageous, but they anchor the notion that a monitor can easily cost $6K then suddenly $1600 starts to seem almost reasonable.
So Apple priced the XDR based on what they planned to price a product that came out years later? Doubt it. The XDR actually isnt outrageously priced, it competes with reference class monitors that are 20-30K and even exceeds them. And there's nothing really out there you can compare the price of the Studio Display to.
@@Slurpy2k8 Didn’t say the XDR was a bad monitor for the money But it’s still crazy expensive. And yup - it’s pretty much the standard playbook to structure pricing in this way. Apple wins both ways - they get to sell some expensive monitors to true professionals but ultimately and more importantly leverage it to make a $1600 60Hz IPS display seem like it’s not overpriced. And that will help them sell a lot of those, probably at much higher margin.
@@Scootir185 Very true. I have the LG Ultrafine 5k and was curious about the Studio display. It wasn't enough of an improvement for me to go out and purchase it. Have to say I was disappointed. The XDR should be seen in person. Aside from its ridiculous price, it has an amazing picture on it.
@@Slurpy2k8 true ! And don't forget that the XDR is the only 32'' 6K monitor on the market. That doesn't explain the price (this you did well) but it's a fact : if you want a 32'' "retina" (220 ppp / smoothing @2x), no other monitor can do that today Monitor manufacturers (LG, Samsung, etc) could easily propose a 32'' 6K thunderbolt monitor with just an IPS LED panel (but a good one), this would be a far less expensive model while allowing them comfortable benefits, but they prefer to fight on the field of cheap 27'' 4K ... if someone understand why .... ?

Thanks for the 3 displays in comparison. How does the color/contrast/brightness between the iMAC and Studio Display actually look? Is a the iMAC just a smaller version of the SD? Thanks
I got the glossy version of the studio display even though there is a window right behind me. In the week that I have had it, the coatings on it are extremely impressive at controlling glare on a glossy display and it gets more than bright enough to see even during the brightest part of the day. Unless you absolutely cannot tolerate glare, then I don't think the nano-texture finish is worth it. As much as I enjoy the studio display, I'm very saddened that it is not a 27" iMac with M1 pro and Max SOCs. I definitely want a bigger screen with faster 4k edits.
Thanks for the comparison with the iMac too. I was wondering if one type of glass the standard glass is easier to clean without scratching the screen if you use a microfiber cloth. I currently have an old iMac that has a very glossy display but is easy to clean. One thing I don't like about the new iMac is the white frame around the display.
As an owner of the M1 iMac,I’d love to have a monitor for maybe 1k that is the same screen as the 24” iMac but black bezels and center stage and speaker. I already think 24” is huge lol. But a cheaper monitor I could plug into my MacBook Air as well would be great while still offering the one cord simplicity of the studio display and iMac.
Tbh, I choose the standard glass, because only apple did their monitor in glossy glass which no other monitors brand do, matte is too common, glossy more sharper and vibrant just like TVs
I really appreciate this video. I’ve been debating whether I should get the M1 iMac or the new Mac studio and studio display. The iMac seems to be the best value, so you’ve definitely helped clarify my decision!
Yes, I would look at it this way. If you want a stand alone desktop start with the M1 "mac mini" with 16GB and only if, it did not meet your needs would, I upgrade to the base model of the new "Mac Studio". However, if you prefer using an All-in-One computer the colorful 24-inch iMac is 100 percent the way to go. Also, if ordering an iMac please get the top of the line version with its matching mouse, track-pad, and full sized (with number pad) keyboard at about $2,000 (US). Trust me, with a computer from Apple there is nothing like buying a full and complete system to meet all your needs, both now and for many years into the future (smile...smile).
@@transitengineer Thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights. I wanted to buy the full suite of iMac accessories, so you’ve definitely affirmed what I was hoping to do!
I hope they come out with a new Pro XDR monitor. It's 5 years old at this point. When it first released I'd have bought it, but I can't justify 5k-6k on a 5 year old monitor.
Wouldn't it be intriguing if enabled the 24 inch iMac to be a hybrid model that can both serve as a local computer ... but ALSO as a external display to another Mac?!?!?!?!?!?! Add a feature to allow switching between modes and a hotkey sequence to switch back and forth and introduce a TB3 port supporting display-port connections.
Thank you. I am debating between the studio display or an iMAC. I have multiple laptops that can run the display. However it’s cheaper to get a iMac and it comes with soo much more. However screen size may make my decision. I’d like to see more of a comparison to screen size of the 2.

That was nice commentary KC. I liked the idea of highlighting the overkill aspect of the XDR Pro and the utility to price for the iMac. Really excellent points! @@davidsalgado5279 Yes I've tried it with my iMac before selling it for a MacBook. hey karl, thank you for share this video comparation. totally awesome. How do you think when the pro xdr display 32 inch vs pro xdr display on macbook m1 pro 2021. is it the same specification except the size? 😊
Do your feel that there is a degradation of quality with the nano-texture display? I like the idea of lessening glare and reflections, but image quality is important to me
People are pushing for this glossy display stuff, and yeah the colors are a bit more vibrant but the reflecting is also a huge distraction, and has a headache inducing effect.
XDR a monstrosity, surely you meant monster? If only the M1 Mac Mini would physically connect to the 27" Intel iMac, Luna software solution looks clunky and its expensive. I am presently checking out alternatives. Any suggestions? I would love to upgrade to M1 but I have this great 5K 27" monitor already.
I wish apple created a display that is basically the m1 iMac but no chin, and 1440p instead of 4K to get the price down. An apple budget display would be super popular it would be like a modern equivalent of the Thunderbolt display
Crazy how a monitor costs more than a whole ass computer. I really only need the monitor cause I have a MacBook Pro but damn might as well get the iMac considering those ridiculous prices
Can you mirror a MacBook on a iMac? I was thinking about getting the Apple studio monitor but the iMac is a better deal to me, but I would want to mainly use it as a bigger monitor for my MBP.
I just hate the bezels on the imac. Great machine otherwise but wow, thick bezels and white color too, I can't stand it. Thats why I just went for the M1 mini with my old 5k LG Ultrafine. I might get the XDR, even though its way outside my budget what I wanted to spend, its such a beautiful panel and I know I'll enjoy it for many years.
Are you saying really the Pro Display isn't worth it? It doesn't look amazing, I mean, more amazing than the Studio one? Not even because it's 6K? Really? HONEST question, I really want to know because I have always wanted a Pro Display (Just got a 32" 4K LG 144hz and I love it, kinda killed the desire for the Pro Display).
such a wasted opportunity to look at 3 of them all side by side and compare their sizes and how much space they take up on the desk, how their heights and stands differ, etc...just 13 minutes of specs and prices 😞
From what Apple Insider says, it does support HDR, but doesn’t get any brighter than its normal 600 nits. They showed a UA-cam video playing side by side with a Studio Display and the LG equivalent and the UA-cam video showed the same video playing on the Studio Display in HDR while oddly it was not in HDR on the LG.
It supports HDR but they cannot legally claim it because it doesn’t have the full brightness to qualify for that label. So you would not get the full blacks or whites of a tv or display with the full “hdr” label, but for all intents and purposes it is fully capable of viewing HDR content (although with a reduced white and black range).
@@ghost-user559 Isn't there an HDR400 certification? Granted, most people consider that fake HDR, but it's still a certification standard. Most real HDR requires 800-1000 nits but I've seen some monitors with HDR400 certification.
@@techinrl9869 Well that’s kind of what I mean, it doesn’t pass certification because of the brightness limitations, but it CAN technically play HDR content in a less dynamic range. That’s the strange thing about all these silly LCD lobby and USBC and Thunderbolt and HDMI standards is they are all so specific, yet the manufacturers are all so different in the quality of cables and ports and components vary so drastically. So for HDR content this screen would function within its range of brightness to view HDR, but on a technicality it doesn’t have the contrast or brightness ratio to qualify for the official standards, which is actually why Apple doesn’t advertise it as HDR, but that’s interesting because they still gave the customer the ability to utilize HDR content. So it’s very interesting to include functionality you can’t advertise just for the benefit of the viewer. That’s a rare thing for corporations, so I can’t help but think they had supply chain issues that prevented full HDR implementation on these devices, and so they essentially “binned” the Display brightness capacity at the last minute until the mini led models.
This monitor has to be one of the worst product apple made ever. Almost scam level product for $1600 using outdated screen technology and $400 just to add heigh adjustment. Insane.

I use a 32 inch monitor and it doesn't even feel that big to me
Tbh, I choose the standard glass, because only apple did their monitor in glossy glass which no other monitors brand do, matte is too common, glossy more sharper and vibrant just like TVs

Got an incredible deal on the Pro Display XDR with the stand last week. Best screen ever!

Team imac all day. Even though I'm on a Mac Mini 👀
Best ever my favourite Display
Watching this on my M4 iMac
Apple does everything intentionally. The extra hardware in this monitor has to have a purpose on something not available yet. Nice review!
I hope they come out with a new Pro XDR monitor. It's 5 years old at this point. When it first released I'd have bought it, but I can't justify 5k-6k on a 5 year old monitor.
can I use the 24inch iMac as a monitor for my MacBook Pro 16?
Wouldn't it be intriguing if enabled the 24 inch iMac to be a hybrid model that can both serve as a local computer ... but ALSO as a external display to another Mac?!?!?!?!?!?! Add a feature to allow switching between modes and a hotkey sequence to switch back and forth and introduce a TB3 port supporting display-port connections.
It’s almost like they did this before…in 2010! Target display mode was the bomb.
Thank you. I am debating between the studio display or an iMAC. I have multiple laptops that can run the display. However it’s cheaper to get a iMac and it comes with soo much more. However screen size may make my decision. I’d like to see more of a comparison to screen size of the 2.
What did you choose ?? I am confused too
@@meghanak8854 I went with a studio display and run it from my 2016 MacBook Pro. I love the display. Although my MacBook seems to be under powered to run the display and it’s self. Looks like I am now getting a newer more powerful MacBook.
@@Paulies_House thank you
@@Paulies_House There's no right or wrong option. It is most definitely the far more expensive option but welcome to apple! Brilliant display, value is always going to drop the higher quality you strive for with apple!
Update: My 2016 Macbook pro was not powerful enough to run the Studio Display. Also, Apple will not allow the 2016 Macbook pro to update to Ventura OS. I replaced the 2016 Macbook pro with a new 2022 14" Macbook pro upgraded with 32 GB memory and now I cruising with all the power I need!
That was nice commentary KC. I liked the idea of highlighting the overkill aspect of the XDR Pro and the utility to price for the iMac. Really excellent points! I guess my issue with the "Studio" is that it isn't pro motion for the money. That is just a gripe, but it's disappointing. You are paying a steep premium for the package deal, speakers and excellent camera. . .
👆👆👆👆 thanks for watching and commenting 😊😊 congratulations you just won a gift 🎁🎁🎁🎁.
Thanks for that Karl! Maybe I should get the Pro Display XDR as a luxury buy
nice review but sidw by side is there any real difference between xdr vs studio display? Is it moresharp ,better color accuracy or with naked eye there is no noticeable difference?
I do own a macbook 14" and studi display..and i was thinking to get the xdr as i am doing wedding photography and videography. But i was wondering if you can see more details with the xrd or is it exactly the same?
We are waiting for something in space grey after using iMac Pro 🖥
Okay so cool, but now can someone make a video covering the experience of using a Studio Display as a 2nd monitor of an iMac Retina 5K 27”
- Does the audio work in both screens?
- Which camera will be used?
- How’s the workflow?
What do you mean hows the workflow, its just a second monitor lol. You can choose which camera to use and which speakers to use
@@danieldev514 do you have the set up?
Is it possible to use both screens speakers at the same time or only one at a time?
Workflow - I mean is it fluid to navigate from one screen to the other one? The quality of image and color sense is equal or do we need to readjust and calibrate?
These things are important to me and to the quality of my work so yeah my questions shouldn’t be judge or seen as a joke.
@@davidsalgado5279 Yes I've tried it with my iMac before selling it for a MacBook.
They are detected by macOS as just regular speakers so if you can two speakers at the same time in macOS then you can use studio display's and iMac's too although i didn't try it
The main difference is the brightness and contrast and it is visible under certain viewing conditions but colors overall are great on both and I don't think you will have to readjust (you can always lower the brightness on the studio if you need).
Studio Display in 30" or 32" would be perfect
I was thinking of getting the studio display but I can have another Mac if I purchase iMac and it has the same display but smaller. I think the iMac 🖥 has amazing value. iMac will be my next purchase.

Apple products are like a work of art
There are two ways which would be much better for Apple users / consumers ;
1) imac 32 inch / 6k with a reasonable price
2) A new display 32 inch / 6k with a reasonable price
Because ;
1) imac 24 inch not enough big even if resolution seems ok
2) Apple Studio Display is not enough big by 27 inch and not cheap
3) Apple Pro Display XDR enough big and having most advanced features ever but no one can afford to buy that

Awesome video..! I got the studio via employee discount (friend) and it’s just a must have accessory… amazing..
hey karl, thank you for share this video comparation. totally awesome. How do you think when the pro xdr display 32 inch vs pro xdr display on macbook m1 pro 2021. is it the same specification except the size? 😊
Have to admit that orange is fire. Wish the Studio Display came with that option............which would probably have a $500 upcharge.
Hello Karl, thanks for the awesome video.
Is that possible to use iMac M3 as a monitor for my MacBook Pro?
Thanks!
This was the video i needed

I would choose the design of the Pro Display XDR in the size of the Studio Display at the price of the iMac. 😎
Portland, JAMAICA in The Building !!!!!!!!!!!!
What kind of graphics card is recommended to run the Pro XDR Display?
Do your feel that there is a degradation of quality with the nano-texture display? I like the idea of lessening glare and reflections, but image quality is important to me
👆👆👆👆Thanks for watching and commenting, congratulations you just won a gift 🎁🎁🎁🎁...
How do you see their default colors compared to iphone colors? Planning to get one soon
People are pushing for this glossy display stuff, and yeah the colors are a bit more vibrant but the reflecting is also a huge distraction, and has a headache inducing effect.
After he showed the "knick" he had with the Pro display, I cant stop but notice it ;-;
I reckon he will have to replace the whole display. It is an eye sore now.
interesting video, make a huawei mate view testing pls
BRO CAN YOU DROP A LINK ABOUT YOUR STUDIO CHAIR AND SPEAKERS AS WELL THANKS
Can we connect Samsung tab s8 ultra as a monitor with Apple Mac studio M1 ultra 🙏🏼
If yes then how we can connect please tell me 🙏🏼
XDR a monstrosity, surely you meant monster? If only the M1 Mac Mini would physically connect to the 27" Intel iMac, Luna software solution looks clunky and its expensive. I am presently checking out alternatives. Any suggestions? I would love to upgrade to M1 but I have this great 5K 27" monitor already.
The xdr also capped at 60hz?
I wish apple created a display that is basically the m1 iMac but no chin, and 1440p instead of 4K to get the price down. An apple budget display would be super popular it would be like a modern equivalent of the Thunderbolt display
Would be nice if Apple brings out small monitors as well
Thanks for watching and congratulations 🎊 you’ve been selected amongst our top 10 winners. DM☝️☝️☝️☝️
That's next I think. 24 inch, 4.5K monitor. Then they will discontinue the iMac line entirely. You heard it here first!
Does the xdr pro also have a fan that comes on? The studio fan is pretty annoying for me so I returned it but miss the Apple quality.
Looks like indeed the iMac no longer comes with the nano texture option, which it previously did.
I felt that "$599...9" in my soul lol
Did you cry when you chipped the side of xdr pro display?
Crazy how a monitor costs more than a whole ass computer. I really only need the monitor cause I have a MacBook Pro but damn might as well get the iMac considering those ridiculous prices
Is iMac M2 or M3 coming with 27 inch ????
but we are eagerly waiting for upcoming iMac launch,
Anyone know about launch date ???
Does it have garage band
Can you use the iMac 24" as a display for the Mac Studio or laptops?
Not officially. Apple took away target display mode a few macOS releases ago.
Just curious, is it possible to use iMac as an external display for MacBook?
👆👆👆👆Thanks for watching and commenting, congratulations you just won a gift 🎁🎁🎁🎁...
Can you mirror a MacBook on a iMac? I was thinking about getting the Apple studio monitor but the iMac is a better deal to me, but I would want to mainly use it as a bigger monitor for my MBP.
You could set up universal controls for the seperate monitor effect!
The bezels on the ultra fine are bad too 😢
Are you saying really the Pro Display isn't worth it? It doesn't look amazing, I mean, more amazing than the Studio one? Not even because it's 6K? Really?
HONEST question, I really want to know because I have always wanted a Pro Display (Just got a 32" 4K LG 144hz and I love it, kinda killed the desire for the Pro Display).

Can studio display play Netflix and UA-cam HDR content like my iPhones?
👆👆👆👆Thanks for watching and commenting, congratulations you just won a gift 🎁🎁🎁🎁.....
Does anyone know if you can use an iMac as an extended display for your MacBook Pro , (not including AirPlay)
Now we know why Apple didn’t release a minimal bezel iMac 🤷🏽♂️
👆👆👆👆Thanks for watching and commenting, congratulations you just won a gift 🎁🎁🎁🎁...
such a wasted opportunity to look at 3 of them all side by side and compare their sizes and how much space they take up on the desk, how their heights and stands differ, etc...just 13 minutes of specs and prices 😞
Can you conect macbook pro into an imac ?
Video in 1080p 😔 why bro
The monitor doesn’t support HDR and you say hdr content looks great?
Thanks for watching and congratulations 🎊 you’ve been selected amongst our top 10 winners. DM☝️☝️☝️☝️
This monitor has to be one of the worst product apple made ever. Almost scam level product for $1600 using outdated screen technology and $400 just to add heigh adjustment. Insane.
Hi! I'm looking to get a new desktop to use architecture programs (rhino, AutoCAD etc). I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use the Mac 24" as a display for the mac studio desktop box? I know it sounds silly, but the iMac is cheaper than the studio display whilst including all the accessories. Would it be possible to connect iMac to the Studio?
Grande karl bel video
I had to opt for the studio display because I'm poor
Wait, can the 24 inch iMac be used as an external monitor?
Nope
Yes We can
But... couldn't I use the iMac 24" as a display for my MBP (a 16" 2019)? A quick google talks about older iMacs, this seems almost too good to be true. While my MBP is older and not an M1, it has a lot of ram and decent storage space, and it's where all my stuff is.
