It's a real shame this game was never released in America. It looks pretty good. I never thought a reimagining of Altered Beast(one of my least favorite Genisis games) would have so much potential.

This game's not based on _To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts._ This game was a reboot (though considering how different it is from the source material it is, it could honestly be said to be a different game wearing the name of Altered Beast altogether) of a late 80s arcade game.
It's a little homage to the original. The Chicken Leg monster was a rideable monster in Golden Axe, and the developers placed in as a cameo enemy in the second stage of the original Altered Beast.

Not in the first run. Her fourth form uses Earth, and the Grizzly can only be obtained after you finish the Story Mode. Like in the video, you ended up using Werewolf in his place to defeat that form.
Wow, I completely forgot I used to play this game until I saw your video. And while watching your walkthrough, I had no idea how I managed to finish the game. The edge's attack is way to hard to aim while the rhino's one always beat my childish patience. Love to see this again. Thank you.
It is 2018 and I am only now discovering that they had a sequel to the Sega Genesis Altered Beast that I loved so dear as a kid. Was this sequel any good?
The wendigo looks more like a yeti though, if you google wendigo images then google yeti images and compare them to the wendigo in game, it looks like a yeti

Love this remake and thank you for creating this video. This game is much better than any of the originals in my opinion (well, minus the mundane biohazard-like scenario, the lack of a lock-on feature, the gradual depletion of beast energy, and the disappointing fact that the merman cannot fight on ground) and is a clever fusion of beat'em ups and puzzle solving (You could fry the elevator as a dragon! What's not to love?). I unlocked the three hidden transformations, the werebear was more of a gimmicky, while the weretiger could wipe the floor with Anastasia.
As a kid l could never unlock the tiger transformation and l was annoyed that l couldn't figure out how to unlock it but at least l got the rest of them this game is great l have good memories of it l love the animation that plays wen you transform especially the werewolf transformaton😝
This game needs a reboot by like, Platinum Games or something. A character that has his own moveset on top of transformations that change it? I think they would be the only ones mad enough to make it work

I still remember the underwater stage being the most frustating one. The control is hard and the aiming often miss. When a 9 year old me had to resort to game shark to beat the stage
Man, I wish the other bosses had the same level of good presentation that the first boss has. Leviathan has the best intro, the best death scene (dragging itself away, desperate to survive) AND it even has a death animation before the cutscene comes in! Aside from Anastasia, *the final boss,* no other boss has that, which is a shame. Generally speaking, all the other bosdes had to present was: Intro cutscene - the boss simply appears Death animation - none Death cutscene - the boss just screams once and falls dead, or just falls dead. I think that was a shame, since for me, the first boss really hypes me up for the other bosses being as memorable.
I want either a remake or an improved version for the ps4. I also want a more tamed version of this character in smash. A fighter that fights by morphing into various creatures would be an epic unique addition.
I remember playing this and loving that they went the 3D route. The only things I hated were since the original was rooted in mysticism, they went the biohazard experiment route heavily infuenced by Resident Evil in this game and it wasn't co-op.
Yeah, I hated the corpses-are-reanimated-due-to-bio-experiment setting to death, it's overly trite and sucks away the fun of beating your foes into bloody pulps because everything feels so dead. I still wish the game didn't blindly follow the zombie outbreak craze.
I always feel like this game resembles Bloody Roar, humans with the ability to turn into beasts to fight. Although focusing on the game, it has too much potential, the story may seem something Resident Evil but it is the concept that makes the game so great. If they made an Altered Beast game now using current technologies, it would be great.
To think the game had so much potential, just the concept of the beast transformations - those sequences are some of the most painful-looking stuff ever - could have worked wonders even if the mythological setting was ditched in favor of a modern sci-fi one. Instead, that's all we got. Granted, the original game wasn't that great to begin with, but it's still a lot of squandered potential.
I disagree though, this version of Altered Beast looks just as great (for me atleast), hell, even better with the much bigger, wider environment of the game, and of course the ominous atmosphere. The game has more bosses, more variety of enemies, puzzles and a fiendish difficulty! I mean, what more could one ask for? I think they molded a perfect combination of different elements. So... do you think the main issue with this game is the "faithfulness"? because if that's your concern, then all I can say is to each his own.
The original arcade game barely WAS average itself, VergilHilts. Also, if by what you were saying, you mean that you were being a dumbass, well, let me just say that you are indeed just an average one for the moment.
When this game came out I believe the reviews weren't that great to begin with even back then. It's not like anyone is singing great praises about it today other than for its limited nostalgia.

Remember playing this like 12-13 years ago, I loved those PS2 realistic looking anime styled games. The game itself is decent but gets way too repetitive in the middle and barely has any story. Could have been a LOT better. The atmosphere was really damn good too.

He never made to USA, being released only in Europe and some other countries. Here in Brazil, the strong piracy ended helping less know games to obtain more view.

I have play Altered Beast before when i was kid, the 2D versión, but when i found the PS 2 version i was so happy. It was much better than the first one, specialy seems you could chose what beast you wanted to transform. Hopefuly one day or year, perhaps a remake will made, because this game will not be forgotten easily, in Fanfiction there is some writing a crossover of Altered Beast and Killing Bites for example, and this anime is going to get a game for console (PS 4 i think)

One thing that still bugs me up until now is the fact that when you use the elemental transforms, they drained the green bar faster. All elementals, like ice-Wendigo, wind-Garuda, flame-Minotaur, thunder-Dragon, or earth-Grizzly.
David, all transformations have an associated element. The Werewolf and the weretiger are, respectively, Light and Darkness; and the U.W.H. uses Gravity.

I always feel like this game resembles Bloody Roar, humans with the ability to turn into beasts to fight. Although focusing on the game, it has too much potential, the story may seem something Resident Evil but it is the concept that makes the game so great. If they made an Altered Beast game now using current technologies, it would be great.

To think the game had so much potential, just the concept of the beast transformations - those sequences are some of the most painful-looking stuff ever - could have worked wonders even if the mythological setting was ditched in favor of a modern sci-fi one. Instead, that's all we got. Granted, the original game wasn't that great to begin with, but it's still a lot of squandered potential.
I disagree though, this version of Altered Beast looks just as great (for me atleast), hell, even better with the much bigger, wider environment of the game, and of course the ominous atmosphere. The game has more bosses, more variety of enemies, puzzles and a fiendish difficulty! I mean, what more could one ask for? I think they molded a perfect combination of different elements.
So... do you think the main issue with this game is the "faithfulness"? because if that's your concern, then all I can say is to each his own.

When this game came out I believe the reviews weren't that great to begin with even back then. It's not like anyone is singing great praises about it today other than for its limited nostalgia.
The final boss first form spider legs and scorpion tail and her final form is Shield with lighting. Now she has wings.

Remember playing this like 12-13 years ago, I loved those PS2 realistic looking anime styled games. The game itself is decent but gets way too repetitive in the middle and barely has any story. Could have been a LOT better. The atmosphere was really damn good too.

He never made to USA, being released only in Europe and some other countries. Here in Brazil, the strong piracy ended helping less know games to obtain more view.

I have play Altered Beast before when i was kid, the 2D versión, but when i found the PS 2 version i was so happy. It was much better than the first one, specialy seems you could chose what beast you wanted to transform. Hopefuly one day or year, perhaps a remake will made, because this game will not be forgotten easily, in Fanfiction there is some writing a crossover of Altered Beast and Killing Bites for example, and this anime is going to get a game for console (PS 4 i think)

I played this game when i was 6-7 years old, and i still remember all the transformations.
One thing that still bugs me up until now is the fact that when you use the elemental transforms, they drained the green bar faster. All elementals, like ice-Wendigo, wind-Garuda, flame-Minotaur, thunder-Dragon, or earth-Grizzly.
David, all transformations have an associated element. The Werewolf and the weretiger are, respectively, Light and Darkness; and the U.W.H. uses Gravity.
I remember playing this as a kid. The gore and blood scared me but I loved it
I always come back to this video to make sure this game doesn't get forgotten.
I cant seem to replicate the pattern you use to defeat the flying phase of the last boss. How can you not be hit by the tornadoes?
