You are very welcome. If you want to do wood slice ornaments be sure to source them well before the holiday period as the prices tend to go up and availability down. k
Such cuteness❣ Thank you for sharing these. I received my wood discs a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with them. Now, I know something I can make.
Well that was perfect timing...after making these 5 I ordered more discs....just got them so will be having an ornament making party with friends...each will make their own.
Hey, Karen, I'm really enjoying your video making the Christmas ornaments with the beautiful designs. Can you just explain to me the difference between the benefit, and the use of the gesso, the Paint medium, protector and all the paints that you were using like on the paper with the different colors and the number codes, etc. What are those? Your work is beautiful. Thanks so much for a great video.
Fluid matte medium I use to glue down the napkins.. I use white gesso...it primes the surface and prepares it for paint ( paint will soak in less, will be easier to blend if you gesso first) I sometimes use white gesso instead of white paint...cheaper and usually because it's always close at hand. The varnish or protector is final coat to seal the paint and protect I use Min Wax Polycrylic varnish I like the satin finish for a little shine. The colors used will depend on the napkin. I use mainly LIquitex Basics acrylic paint. I make whatever colors I have work/match what I need . Hope this helps
Karen, these are so sweet! They would be wonderful gifts to give. My fav is the dog one! I wish I had a napkin stash like you! You make such incredible pieces with them!
By far the best decoupage video and instruction, I’ve watched ! Thank you so much for taking me through each step. I can’t wait to try this technique out. I’m still a little unclear about the materials you’re using. I’ll have to look it up in the link and see if you have any previous videos on materials. Thank you so much and have a happy holiday, and a very merry Christmas❤️
You mean use clear gesso to seal the wood? You can keep the wood round natural..but then the color impacts the color of the napkin focal...thats why I use the white gesso?
love this! I've been looking for something to do with the leftover wood slices from my daughter's wedding...this is perfect! thanks so much for this video
Glad it was helpful! These are so easy and so adorable....I am thinking of putting them in garland to hang on mantle...or to attach to wreath...or both LOL
OMG!! The bunnies are too cute!!! Just wondering how big are your pieces of round wood? and the writing reads Let it snow! it's just about the only thing I remember in German!! LOL! Another napkin project you have outdone yourself!
The rounds are approx 3=3 1/2 inches round...they come smaller and bigger...also thinner. Thank you for the translation. I ordered a bunch more to make.

I just discovered your channel, and with Christmas soon coming around again, these are a perfect little gift. I have a question: for what purposes is gesso used?
Yes the sealer is different than gesso....it's more like a varnish than gesso .When applied the sealer brings out the wood grain which you can then sand down leaving you with a smooth surface. If you go and paint the raw wood the wood grain would still get raised but you wouldnt have a smooth surface. I think it does prevent cracking but only time will tell. I also varnish them at the end which also may prevent it from cracking. The thing to remember is it is wood ( a natural product) AND its also not overly expensive....quallity and long lasting durability may not be there. K
I am not exactly sure..there are a lot of different varnishes at reno supply stores with different purposes ..the varnish I use is water based, easy clean up and has no scent. I use MinWax Polycrylic Varnish .

How can we NOW just glue down the napkins after seeing how much better they look with the over painting! ☺️☺️☺️☺️ Really so pretty, 👏👏👏👏👏👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🥰🥰🥰
Oh you made me laugh....K
Excellent tutorial. You’ve really made us see how much farther one can go besides just gluing on! 👏👏👏🥰🎄
I always want to make them more my own. Or at least vary up one from the other when I make multiples. K
Thank you very much for the inspiration, Karen❤

Thank you so much. K
Beautiful Work
It’s time to do more for this year
Love these ❤
Thanks so much. K
Love your video! Can you please explain what type of white paint you use to blend?
It is white gesso. I use an art store economy brand. Pretty much every company has a gesso. You don’t need to buy expensive gesso.
Lovin this! ❤. What a great idea adding the stamping and stitching to the back !
Glad you like it! Stitching adds so much .K
Absolutely love these ornaments Karen 😊
Thank you....I will definitely be making more .
Wonderful use of napkins and holiday tissues. I am inspired to try it, but may leave the wood grain exposed. I’ll try it to see how it looks.
Yes...depending on your napkin allowing the wood grain to show through will work....K
Super cute!
You are so kind
Could I use clear gesso on first layer & then white gesso for second? Love this idea!

It looks really amazing. Thanks for share this wonderful idea. 🙏😁
My pleasure 😊

This is awesome as always! I love the inspiration!
Thanks so much! Hope all is good with you . K
What did you seal the side of the wood with? Thank you so much.
Fluid matte medium from Liquitex. K
Absolutely beautiful, new subscriber!
Thanks for subbing! Happy creating. K
Could you send or post a list of the mediums you use please
Liquitex Matte Medium....or Gel medium Minwax Polycrylic varnish at end.
I just discovered your channel, and with Christmas soon coming around again, these are a perfect little gift. I have a question: for what purposes is gesso used?
Yes they do make the perfect gift...so easy to make varieties and personalize too
These are awesome! ❤❤❤
Does the using the sealant to seal them keep the wood slices from cracking? Is the sealant different from the Gesso? Thanks!

Is varnish the same as polyurethane

Could you slow down a bit when you show the products you are using? it would be so helpful to be able to read the labels. Thanks
