Pirates Rule! - 10ᵗʰ Anniversary HD Remaster

- My most popular video 'Pirates Rule!' now remastered in HD for its 10th anniversary.
And if you enjoyed this, please check out my latest project WELCOME TO DARKMOOR here: • Welcome to Darkmoor (It took five years to make!)
Originally animated in 2010 and released on March 4th 2011, 'Pirates Rule!' is an adventure about LEGO pirates and ninjas fighting over a chest of gold. Since then, the original upload has gained over two and a half million views. It is also my first video to properly feature my iconic squid Mr. Munchy.
A great number of people have told me over the years how much they enjoyed coming back to watch it again because of the nostalgia attached to it. So I wanted to do something special for the 10th anniversary and make those extra viewings a little bit more enjoyable. I still had all of the max resolution frames, so I re-edited the entire film into an HD project.
The only other changes I made:
Upgraded the rating at the start (once I saw it in HD again I really felt like it needed to be better)
Fixed the awful camera bump right after Barrels enters the hideout
Redid the subtitles (couldn't get the original font, sadly, but I fixed a spelling mistake)
Reduced background fuzz in the Annoying Noises Productions sound at the very end of the video
Other than that, the video is almost exactly how it was 10 years ago.
Make sure to subscribe so that you can see my next project RED ORDER once as it's complete.
It's definitely going to be a while. In the meantime, my colleague Squidtastic recently completed our collaborative project 'The Name of Cole'. I wrote the script and did most of the voicework while he handled animation and the rest of the production.

Pirates Rule is 10 years old now, and over half of that time was spent making Darkmoor.
Also make sure to check out my collaboration with Squidtastic Videos: The Name of Cole: ua-cam.com/video/7gKTzWUQJaI/v-deo.html
I'm also still working on my next original project RED ORDER which will feature the return of some familiar ANP characters. It's taking a while because I've been working on some non-LEGO stuff, too, but I'm still slowly making progress!
Cheers!
Make more! Luv you vids dood!
It’s funny. Ten years ago I got my first Lego set. Set 7285. By the way, I also animate stop motion brickfilms! I would appreciate some feedback if you have the chance! Better to hear it from a pro!
Hi, BrickBrother. My first LEGO set was Crisis News Crew (6553). Loved that set. It also came with a little van you could put stuff into not unlike yours (it also came with a helicopter).
I gave your videos a quick look. I'd suggest trying to focus on improving animation. There are lot of videos on the general guidelines for animation. Even if not a brickfilm specific video, many of these rules still apply everywhere.
My animation's definitely not perfect in this (lol), because it's only ten frames per second (probably the bare minimum), and it's also pretty old at this point. Generally a good target is 12 or 15. But upping it isn't everything. You've got to ease in and out, really work on the flow of things. Practice, and pay close attention to stuff you notice that's nice in other people's work, and you will improve over time.
Making test montages can be a very fun way to do this, and it's a great way to experiment with very interesting types of shots without having to establish the context that might otherwise been required.
Not sure if that will help, but good luck!
He's baaaack!
Love your vids
Great to see this classic again in all it's HD glory 😍
Aye hamster. Your stop motions are amazing
hey dude i lover your stop motion you should make more pirate stuff
@@angerynook9937 ^
hamster i like ur videos!!!!
This day couldn't get better. And I was literally just mugged.
You were mugged? Hope you’re okay
@@BossKingLegoProductions I'm fine, I'm in a better place.....
Pirates Rule was one of my all-time favourite Lego animations; it had a hilarious script and a funny story, not to mention its great characters! I can't wait to see it remastered!
Literally still quote the whole "double it, throw in some ice cream" exchange. Truly amazed at how well you've improved in all areas since then. Watching this in comparison to Welcome To Darkmoor is truly something. Long live the giant cyborg man eating squid!
I didn't know we all needed this right now
We finally we got a remastered version and it is exactly ten years
I saw this video when I was around 7 years old and I loved it, I loved pirates and legos and this was the first time I saw them together, it was a really special video for me, it's just wild to see it is 10 years old now, it's one of my favorite lego animations of all time. Just amazing.
Same, friend, same
You are literally one of my favorite stop motion makers ever you are what got me into making stop motions this was the first video I ever watched please make a Welcome to Darkmoor 2 your videos are so good
Thanks!
I'm not ready to commit to a sequel for Welcome to Darkmoor just yet. I was really happy with it as a standalone film, and I'd be worried about ruining that. Plus the original also, took five years, so it'd probably also take a great deal of time to do a sequel. Still, that hasn't stopped me from thinking about ideas...
For now I'm hoping to focus on some smaller films for a while (probably a year or two) before I commit to another one of my large scale films. (My current project is just a smaller scale film that I'm taking way too long to make, lol)
Thanks for replying to my comment can’t wait to see what new stop motions you’ll make!! 👍
This was one of the first stop motion videos I seen on UA-cam back in 2014! It's good to see it again!
Great to see. This is one that notably could have done with a remaster, so I'm glad we got it
Ah nice work, a great classic indeed!
3:17 This dude says, “the ninjas took our money!”, but he literally has a large piece of silver on the table behind him 😂🤣
Wow, so much detail! I'm so glad we get to see this in HD now. This is a classic.
Squid, I'm revisiting this video on Talk Like a Pirate Day.
When I first came across you on the Creation Lab, I was in elementary or middle school. Now, I'm a senior in college. Revisiting your brickfilms has been an amazing experience, and I thank you for being a part of my childhood.
I have always been inspired to be creative and imaginitive and pursue the career of an artist, and hope to do so later in life. Some of my biggest inspirations when it comes to my creative work are greats like JRR Tolkien or George Martin, Ursula K Leguin and Tamsyn Muir.
But really, if I think back to the first person who inspired me to create my own world, and grow and make it prosper beyond what just existed with my Lego bricks, I think I would have to point to you, Squid.
Thank you for being my inspiration. You are one of the most talented, cleverest, most thoughtful creatives I have ever met. Never stop being you!
Wow, thanks! Good luck! I pray it goes well for you. 🙏
He’s back!
After a full year, he’s back! 😮
I literally watch the none HD version this morning
Wow!
RETURN OF THE KING!!!
Ive been lookin back at all the old stop motion channels i used to watch and its so awesome to see them still around, especially this one. Brings back a lottttt of memories
The return of the king. I cannot express how much I loved watching this video as a child, I watched it hundreds of times when it was uploaded and it inspired so much of the things I did with lego
Even though I’m a month late, I’m still really happy to see this remastered. It’s one of my favourite stop motions on UA-cam so it’s nice to see it like this
I’ve always loved this one. Honesty the best pirate brickfilm I’ve seen.
I remember watching the non HD video 3 years ago and seeing this video makes me have memories of watching this video
YES!!!!!!!! What a classic.
It's so nice and kind of you to put a Japanese subtitle on the video. Thanks!
You can thank Rokkakumaru. He volunteered translate it.
I love this stop motion! One of most nostalgic from, dare I say, my childhood. Such a classic! Love this stop motion and all your videos!
Oh man, I used to watch this one all the time. It's good to see it in HD! And 10 years, hoo boy!
Yay! Congratulations on Ten Years!
I'm so glad, this was one of my favourite brickfilms of yours
Can’t believe it’s been 10 years I loved your videos when I was 11 and I love them today! Thanks for making these beautiful videos for my childhood!
I just realized this is a year old lol
The legend is back!!!
Literally looked this up and watched this a few days ago for nostalgia sake, nice
This is one of my favorite animations on UA-cam! Good to see it return, in all its brick glory.
Thank you for this video, this and others were my childhood!
A surprise, but a welcome one.
This video is top tier
Thank you for this
Now this is something I wanted to see!!
love everything about this, always have
Dude i missed you man
This whole thing is so freaking brilliant. I think my favorite part is where the dude gets his head shot off by the cannon. *tap, tap, BOOM*
Oh how I have missed that squid.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Ah, brings back memories. Gracias Señor.
Congrats on ten years. This is still great after all these years. Eat him Munchie is so great.
Nice to see it in HD. I used to watch the original all the time
My childhood reborn!!
Guys this is a legendary moment he uploaded a new video after a year
I'm a simple man. I see an ANP video, I click.
I've been following you since the days of the LU Creation Lab, Sir Squid! You're super talented, keep up the good work!
A classic!
This is ten years old? Man, I grew up with this video
Legend
Perfection
Nice!
My personal favorite Lego movie. Been quoting it for years now.
10 year anniversary remaster? Cool! What did you use to 'upscale' the quality? Also, glad to know your still around!
Not upscaled actually! I still have all of the individual frames from the entire video saved at maximum quality (I always keep them for every project). But I couldn't use my old project save from Premier Elements 1.0, so I reassembled the entire timeline to match the original in a new HD project. It took a lot of time and effort because a lot of the frames had been rearranged and edited, though.
"sup mate I just got my head shot off, you" "same"
Looks like we are in the same boat
Still a masterpiece.
This is 10 years old?! Now I feel old myself...
This. This is absolutely incredible. The original still slaps, even with the potato pixels
Can't believe its been this long...
Barrels is such a mood.
The Return of the King or should I say the pirate king
Great
Reminds me of when I used to be happy, 🥲
🙏😔Praying for you, man.
@@AnnoyingNoisesProductions thanks man. God bless!

Oh my brick yes!
Ten years later and she still doesn't have her pony
Oh cow he’s not dead!
classic
So I have to ask since I’ve always loved the scores for your old videos but does Elisabeth Allen still compose music? It’s a fantastic and unique sound.
So nostalgic for me 🐵

ARR!
hello again it's been too long
rip u
Wow it’s been so long since we seen you . How have you been ?
It'll be an entire year this month since I last left my home (thanks to the ongoing events). It's been pretty rough (as it has been for many), but considering the circumstances, I think I'm holding up pretty well! I've been spending a lot of time attending my church's RCIA meetings and Bible study through video calls which is great because I get to talk to my new friends. I've also been working on this video game idea I've wanted to make for a while and so I've been spending a lot of time on that lately. Still a long way to go with that, but I'm really happy with the progress I've made so far. Unfortunately, that's slowed my progress with my next brickfilm (Sorry!) but I'm still making the brickfilm! but hey, maybe sometime down the line you guys will get to enjoy an new game from me rather than a new video.
@@AnnoyingNoisesProductions awesome! Can’t wait to play the game . And I’m glad your doing well .
Oh good, I only need half the treasure to buy the p0wny anywayyy
Also, ANP, whatever happened to the Land of Weird and Riigo-Faloo? Any updates with them?
No, sorry! Red Order isn't going to take place in Riigo-Faloo. I'm not yet 100% sure what my next project will be after Red Order, but I want to be 100% done with that before I decide what's after that one. Still might make another Riigo-Faloo video some day, though.
@@AnnoyingNoisesProductions Very interesting...
I would kill for the chance to learn more about Riigo-Faloo, it sounds so unique and splendid, unlike any other fictional world I've come across.
Are you gonna remaster more of your previous work?
I don't have any plans right now. It does take a lot of work to do it because I have to rebuild the timeline in an HD project. I wanted to do Pirates Rule at least because it was particularly low quality, and also my most popular video. Do you have any video in particular you think that I should remaster?
@@AnnoyingNoisesProductions Mailbox of Doom is a favourite of mine... I would be rather curious to see how it would look remastered!
OMG! Happy anniversary ANP!! I wish you could watch my videos but I wanted to ask if you will be watching other peoples videos in a live stream?
I've no plans on doing any livestreams, but I will provide feedback on specific videos or subjects upon request, as I do want to be able to assist the community where I can.
@@AnnoyingNoisesProductions Thankyou ANP!! Can you provide feedback on specific videos like mine so I can learn from you?
Specify away.
@@AnnoyingNoisesProductions ua-cam.com/video/4CJzUBRdyHI/v-deo.html this video by me. I am going to do a part 2 but I want to make it better that ever. Can you tell me things that will improve my next video? Thanks.
It looks like the action moves much too fast, so it's rather difficult to follow what's going on in the video besides that people are fighting. What I think would really improve it is making the action a bit slower and more deliberate. Focus on key characters and what they're doing. Not just with animation, but also on the shots. It's very easy to use a lot of quick cuts (I myself overused quick cuts in I AM THE NIGHT) where a shot quickly becomes another shot. But sometimes you need to hold the shot if you don't really need to cut. it's a bit higher risk, especially in animation, to keep a shot going for a time because of all the mistakes that can be made, but it can be very much worth it.
Also, I'm very fond of this pretty great animation tutorial by FancyPants: ua-cam.com/video/0XrRJAiIepY/v-deo.html It's ancient now, but evergreen.
Can you make Pirates Rule 2?
The idea isn't entirely off the table. But I've just got a lot of other ideas that I really want to make, and it takes so long for me to make videos, so I just keep pushing it back. So it probably won't be for a very long time, if ever.
Please, what is this song ??? Please. 6:57
The music was composed by my sister specifically for this video.
i hope u come back
Thanks! I do still have another brickfilm, but I haven't made progress recently. I still do intend to finish it, but it may take a while.
