Great diy video, thanks!
I've been wanting to do this but didn't want to tackle it because of lack of information on those. Your video is awesome as they always are. Now I feel pretty confident to do this. Mine needs painted while it's apart. Thanks
No problem! Thanks for watching!
great video thanks for your time. the only thing i did differently that made this much easier was spread open the channel, then slipped the seals in and then carfully closed the channel. only rivet needed is for the pivot and it made it super easy to install. i also painted mine and with care it didnt mess-up my 2k paint i sealed them with. hope that helps guys and gals
Just found your videos and subbed. I'm sitting next to my 78' K20 just binge watching! Thanks I'll soon be a contributor to the company for sure! Good job! Good marketing! Thanks again!
Thanks, we're glad you found us! Good luck with your project!
Thank you ! Not even one swear word good job
You didn't even cuss of throw the wrench! Great Video!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for what you do
Well done! I appreciate your time and effort.
Amen on the frustration part, but I finally got it
Nice im barely on the seals removed.. Tomorrow remove rivets and paint the frame
Did you use the rivet gun?? If yes what size of rivets did you use.. I bought a seals kit and came without rivets
@@beardedg500 Rivets are sold separately, but you can use standard 1/8" rivets too.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV oh wow thank gou for giving me fhe size of the rivets
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV i bought my seal kit by ebay, i should have buy it from you guys... Thanx for all the help
Thanx best channel!!!! Thanx for the help
Our pleasure!
That's very cool 😎 Bro
I just did mine on my 87, and you don't have to take the frame apart
Just what I need! #82C10
Whats the name for the weather strip for the vertical long piece of metal
Help, where did the mushroom tool come from? Maybe the size? No one says the correct size !!
I'm am dreading this like the plague but it needs to be done on my '82
It's really not that hard. Most difficult thing is getting the new rubber on the frame, and replacing the two rivets at the bottom of the frame where it attaches to the division bar. Aside from that it's just time.
Same here. Gotta do this to my 84. One day.....
You mean, dreading this like the SARS Corona 19. Im willing to pay for drop in repro assemblies and bypass all this chicanery lol
You need eight hands and something to rest the head of the rivet on which doesnt exist.
Hello...Where are you guys? And do you do work on any car? I see the level of expertise you have and would love to have my car done by you...thank you in advance and have a wonderful night!
David owns ART Customs in Jurupa CA. You can find him on Instagram @A.R.T.Customs
This isnt too bad. I can actually do this with the window still in the truck
tank you man
Our pleasure!
The frame that holds the glass on my truck is completely rotted, and I just got done installing the weatherstripping on the doors that I got from Brothers, I didn’t realize how how bad the vent frames are
Luckily you can buy 100% new vent assemblies! www.brotherstrucks.com
Hello Diesel I thought Brothers was open on Saturday but no contact question do you know if Brothers have or anybody. Else that'll have the long felt liner that goes into the outer channel I don't see him replacing nor mentioning anything about it thank you.
Once you place the vent glass into the vent window frame assembly does the window have to sit in between the weatherstripping the whole way round or does in sit on the outside of the weatherstripping?
It kind of sits half-n-half
Great diy video!! At 8:30 in this video you refer to a part that is attached by tabs to the back inside side of the upper part of the window glide rail channel. Does it include the rubber seal on the inside of the vent window opening that fits down into this channel? In my 78 Big 10 the rubber part is somehow attached to the channel by rivets. The rubber part needs to be replaced. I guess that the metal channel and the rubber gasket may have been factory-assembled as one piece. What is this piece called? Need the part name or number to try and find a replacement.
Thank you. Keep doing a great job!!
Got her all in but the there’s still a gap between the upper part of the window and the seal, how do you fix that?
There shouldn't be a gap unless something went wrong. Call the shop and we'll give you a number to text photos to so we can help sort it out.
I'm doing all the weather stripping on my doors. Should I start with the vent window first and go from there?
The vent will be the deepest part in the weatherseals on the door and cab, as well as the toughest to do. So yeah we would recommend starting there and working outwards from that.
I was on a date with an ex gf years ago and my dumbass locked the keys in my jimmy and decided to break the wing to get back in (time crunch). I wish I would’ve known the headache ahead of me.
I apologize for bumping an old video. But I ordered the rubber kit, as well as new vent latches for my 87 Chev. I'm having a rough time sorting out how to get the vent latch together. It seems like there are more parts in the bag than I need. There are two grommets, two differently sized flat washers.
Is this just to accommodate the differences in the latch holes in various years? I just use the grommet that best fits my application?
Yes exactly. Some trucks were equipped with thicker glass and some with thin glass.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV perfect, thanks for the heads up! That's what I was figuring, but I didn't want to assume and cause another leak.
Thanks for replying as well! Much appreciated!!!
My glass is broken but everything else is still there. Do I need to take it all apart or can I just put the glass into the metal frame while still in the door? Any help would be appreciated
You can just replace the glass while it's still in the door. It's difficult, but can be done.
Where can I get the full assembly for a 79 k5 blazer? My doors were stolen at body shop and now I'm screwed. Have new doors buy no vent windows
Unfortunately there are no reproductions of that part as of now. You're going to have to find a used set or convert it to one-piece glass and get rid of the vents.
is the hardware available for the spring if its all missing ? Thanks
Yes, we have a kit available on our website. www.brotherstrucks.com
Can you use a rivet gun instead of the rivet and hammer?
Do you have to remove vent window assembly in order to replace seal?????????
Yes, 100%.
So I bought the new weather strip for my k10 and when I was disassembling it the long side of the vent frame/rail that the rivets connect had a felt-like-insert in it. I had to remove that first (which broke into a million pieces due to its age) to access the tabs on the bottom side to remove the weather stripping. Is this a separate weather strip/felt component?
Yes, that's part of the Door Glass Channels. They will be different depending on the year of your K10, here's a link to all the options: bit.ly/2LH6VyC . We also have a video detailing the installation of those Glass Channels which can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/raFqAoBnJ3E/v-deo.html
BROTHERS Truck Parts Awesome! Thank you for the speedy reply!
Hi I have a 1985 GMC Sierra Classic C15 Suburban 2wd I have a 2 piece vent window kit but I don't have the long seal that goes into the outer channel do you have that seal or liner I'm not sure which is the proper name of it thank you.
I'm needing the division bar relining channel for my 1985 GMC Sierra Classic C15 Suburban 2wd I didn't see nor hear you mention anything about it after replacing everything e.
Do you know of any shop thats in Columbia SC that can replace the rubbers in my vent windows in a 84 c10
We don't know of any shops In or near Columbia, sorry.
Is there a glue or something to keep the glass in the frame
There's something called "glass setting tape" that hold it in and seals the glass to the frame. You can pick it up at your local auto glass place or auto parts store.
What is the part # for the pivot rivet tool?
Part# VRST001, here's a link: www.brotherstrucks.com/1951-72-CHEVY_GMC-VENT-WINDOW-RIVET-SETTING-TOOL/productinfo/VRST001/
Do you have the pivot plate my circular piece is broken where can I get that piece
Sorry George, we're not sure what you mean by Pivot Plate. Please call our shop at 800-977-2767 and one of the customer service guys will help you out.
But does anyone make new seals that are as good as OEM? I tried those Precision brand ones and they're too thick. The don't look quite right on the truck, and they're so thick that they allow for a lot of wind noise. I guess because they won't go into place quite as well as the slimmer factory seals.
Well we know our seals work right, that's for sure. Part of the reason we do these videos and installations is for that exact reason, we get to test our own products while offering a helpful resource for our customers too. If these seals didn't work, we'd switch manufacturers and test those. We are constantly doing R&D on our products to make sure when you get them they work.
Wish you guys had kits for a complete rebuild.
Complete rebuild of what component? We have plenty of kits for all types of projects.
A kit for the vent window rebuild
@@samb697 What would you like to see in that kit? We have a window channel kit already, and If someone is doing the vents at that time they would just add on the vent rubber. Is there something specific you would like to see in a kit like this?
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV oh ill try that and add to my cart. I would like to see the metal glass frame and chrome striker plate that the knob catches. Also at one time lmc carried the whole assembly for 83-87... square bodies. They have been back ordered. Whole country is out of stock 🤣🤣🤘.
@@samb697 Yeah, we're experiencing the same supply chain issues with those complete assemblies. Thank you for the kit suggestions, we'll look into creating something like that for the catalog and website.
can you use the 1 pc seal on years that didnt come with it? 73-85? i think
Possibly? We've never tried it, but we really don;t see any reason it wouldn't work. We'll test it out here at the studio and see what happens!
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV do you guys sell just the vent glass frame alone?
Forgot to mention to have a beer with it 😅
Ah yes, the all important brewski... Thanks for watching!
I noticed the cracked vent window I have has no decal or marking for safety glass
Then someone has probably replaced it in the past with standard glass.
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV just what I thought, when I order a new drivers window and vent window I learned to ask if it rated as tempered, learned a lot from your videos, Thanks for sharing
@@woof3598 Our pleasure!
What difference will it make if you have the one piece rubber?
Not completely sure what you mean Steven by "one piece rubber"
www.brotherstrucks.com/1981-91-CHEVY_GMC-TRUCK-VENT-WINDOW-SEAL-SET-ONE-PIECE-DESIGN/productinfo/VWW8591/
So, I just completed all of this and once I got the vent back in my 86 C10, I noticed that the weather stripping doesn't sit flush with the vent window. This allows wind noise and water to leak in. I checked to make sure the weather stripping was in the grooves as it needed to be and it was. Is there a way to get the weather stripping to sit down tightly on the vent window to eliminate the wind noise and water leaking?
Once it's seated it should have an air/water tight fit. Call us this week and we'll have you text over a few photos so we can help determine what the issue is. 800-977-2767
I order a catalog from Brothers 6 months ago, never came. Last month I ordered the Vent Gasket kit for a 71 C10 from LMC because they sent a catalog.
Problem is the Korean made gasket is too thick and the window won't close. Is your kit produced somewhere else , thus it might work correctly ?
First, our apologies about the catalog. Call the shop tomorrow and tell them the UA-cam Admin said to ship you one First Class ASAP. Secondly, our Vent Rubber is our own brand, as you can see in the video IT WORKS. Part of the reason we have a UA-cam channel and studio in-house is so we can test parts, vet them out and show you how they're installed. Win, win for everyone.
Looking forward to doing business with you.
@@SimpAl.. FYI, my mistake... The vents are not our Brand, but they are our design that we have made for us. Doesn't change the fact that they work. Thanks again!
I have ordered from 2 companies. LMC and 1A auto . The the inner weatherstripping on my 76 C10 the clips on both companies parts were not made the same as original. They are to shallow and do not let it fit correctly. Both companies parts looked like they came from the same place in Taiwan. I sent a picture to Brothers via email to see if theirs was correct. No answer. Emailed again. Someone named Marks asked for my phone number so he could call. Still have no call. It would be nice if someone would look at this issue and correct it. I guess I can always do a review on the companies of with the BBB
