In this video, I go over how to completely service, restore, and replace the seals on a squarebody vent window, including the latch. This guide is applicable for all 73-87 chevy and gmc trucks, including but not limited to C10, C20, C30, K10, K20, K30, K5 Blazer, Suburban, CUCV M1009, M1008 and more. I hope you find this helpful!
Great video, I'm rehearsing for my own "vent heaven" tear down. I've subbed, I have an '84 C20 and it's been a slow methodical rebirth. Thanks a lot for this!
I'm finished, after the first one, it actually became easier once I knew what to expect. I used a can of silicone, just a bit it really tight spots and that helped a lot. The latches go on today and then all of it goes back into the body of the truck and I do the rest of the rubber around the windows.
Awesome video, well done, you save many of us a lot of time and possible money because a lot of us would have broke something for sure and had to go to the wrecking yard to find a new part or two.
Kevin Jackson that's what I'm here for my friend! Glad I could help!
Like the patience you make the video relaxed. Thankx.
Thanks for the video! Great sound and much better lighting than most videos describing these vent windows.
DieselDan thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the content! subscribe for more!
Good job man even a Forrest Gump like myself was able to follow and completely understand. Thanks
If you start the roll pin before trying to put the locking latch onto the stud it is SO much easier... Tap it in until it just starts to show in the groove and you are good.
pro tip: you can watch series on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Ryan Knox Definitely, have been watching on Flixzone} for months myself =)
@Ryan Knox Yup, I have been watching on Flixzone} for since november myself :)
@Ryan Knox yea, I've been using Flixzone} for since december myself =)
Great video! It made the process easy. This is one job that requires patience for sure.
good video. You've raised the bar for all UA-camrs.
Crank Addict clear and concise tutorials are in short supply on the internet
That was some great work. Now I can do my 74 Blazer and know where to get help if I get stuck. Thank you!!
Kurnacopia glad it helped! It's not that bad!
Awesome video, and awesome 70s watchband as well.
I keyed in on the lock replacement. Your explanation is the best one, by far, that I've seen on YT. The company that I bought my part from told me that I'm on my own as to how it all goes together. Mine did come with 2 springs which tripped me up. One bit of advice, start the roll pin into the hole before you start the assembly, it just makes it much easier to hammer it in. Thank you for the vid!
I have to save this video very detailed. I was concerned with everything at first. I’m getting on mine now.
Nestor Cordova good luck!
Great video and you’re so close to 1000 subscribers! Nice work!
Thanks! It is hard to get traffic to my videos, but I hope they help some people out!
Odyssey Overland 4x4 why do you have your subscriber number hidden now? Do you want to appear to possibly be a big deal to new people that stumble across your videos like I did?
I need to paint the vent window frame as well. Great video.😎😎
Glad it helped! Pro tip, if your glass is really stuck in the frame and you want to remove it, it can be done actually by lightly torching it. But be sure to heat the glass uniformly and wear gloves!!!! Good luck!
Thanks! Super helpful
Great video! Thanks!
thank you for the video
DUDE! Thanks very much as I'm about to do the pair on my '75 Silverado. There's a lot more I do wish you had kept the camera rolling through though! I may be coming back with more questions, ideas, thoughts.... Who knows may even video my process, but there will likely be a lot of cussin' to bleep!
Paul Marentette feel free to ask! The only thing my camera wasn't rolling for was the actual riviting of the frame, but that's straight forward! Just follow it as close as you can and you'll be all set in no time! Thanks for watching! Subscribe!
@@OdysseyOverland4x4What kind of glue did you use?
Very good video
Did you do a video on removing the whole thing from the door? I have 94 Chevy G30, but everything (that I can see at least) looks pretty much the same.
What size rivit's did use in all . Especially the top swivel part? Thank you. Thumbs up! A+++++ video
i have an 86 c10, my kit from precision only came with one piece seals. the kit says its for 85-87 but my vent windows have the holes like yours in the video. I am trying to get the one piece seals on but they fit terribly. are the one and 2 piece seals interchangeable?
Does the vent window actually sit into the weatherstripping or does it stay on the outside of it?
Can I used the 2 piece seal on a single piece unit ? Will it work
Bro what about the slim liner that edges around the front of the of actually vent window itself??
Now I know what a wave washer is
The spring loaded nut holding the glass in was rusted on so tight that wd40 did nothing, and the pivot completely broke off of the glass frame when I tried to take it off.
Are the ones that are riveted in a one or two piece?
Fantastic. Did you use a rivet gun or the rivet kit with the tapper?
michael roberts just the rivet gun. Some modifications will have to be made to it to get it to fit into the small channel in the window frame, easy to do, just grind out the outer ends of a cheap rivet gun and you're smooth sailing!
Where did you buy the window seals and latch hardware? I've used lmc but don't care for the fit, looking for other sources.
Thx, great video
OTTOFLYS This was from Precision. Look up Precision Chevy truck seals. Purchased from eBay
Awesome video, very detailed. Do the rivets go through the weather strip?
He left that part out for a reason! He messed up. because he either drilled holes through the rubber or he took the rubber off then riveted it and put it back on
Can you use a full vent seal if it's not originally a full one piece seal I'm buying a kit for my 1988 GMC Jimmy full size rubber seal for the whole truck but it comes with two one piece vent window seals will they work thanks and great video great job
The seals are not interchangeable, so if you have the 2 piece version, you have to install the 2 piece version back into it.
Well how would I know until I pull it apart or do certain years do the one piece
What kind of rivets and tool did you use? Help pls
do you know if the 1 piece seal can be used on all years 73-85? the years that didnt come with 1 pc
Did u ever find that out ? I'm curious to
It can NOT
Did you use a pop rivet gun on those?
Where did you buy the weather strip from and send me the link please p
Great video except for one part you messed up. You either drilled holes through the rubber or he took the rubber off then riveted it and put it back on, the rivets should have been done first
If that. Was hard for you try doing cab mounts!
Do you have to remove the side window in order to remove the vent window?
No you do not have to. It could make it a bit easier, but I was able to without removing the side window no problem! Thanks for watching! Subscribe!
Can the vent latch be removed and reinstalled while the vent window is in the door?
yes.
Exactly what year was this performed on? I have an 87 and this video is super informative. Great job and thanks!!!
This was for an 85. If my memory serves me right, you should have the exact same setup with the two piece seals, assuming no one swapped in an older vent window!
You're right!! They are the two piece. My frame stud is broken so I gotta fix that as well as change out the seals. I have a nova as well I did this on. What brand seals you recommend?
Chad Franklin awesome! I got my seals from Precision! Usually it's accepted as a good company with good products. I believe I did get them off eBay, but if you can get it from a vendor that would be even better!
Odyssey Overland 4x4 Precision, great!! I’ve heard good things about them for these trucks.
Chad Franklin give it a go! It's money well spent!
What kind of 5/32 rivet did you use?
Use stainless steel
Spent 6 hours cussing trying to get that rubber in the channels. I gave up and bought brand new windows lmao. Live and learn
What year is your truck? I can not find assembled vent windows for my 82
@@richardlewellen2641 85’. Ordered them from LMC
@@jarrettb.7302 thank you
👍🏼👍🏼
does anyone know if this is the same setup as the vans ? i have a 1977 chevy van
wideopenoutdoors while I do know that the Vans were a little different, I can tell you that the instructions should almost be identical, based on the seals I saw for sale. Should be straightforward if you use this video as a guide
OdysseyOverland4x4 awesome, i figured they couldnt be too far off . Thanks for the reply
wideopenoutdoors you got it!
The only hard part is putting the rubber in the slot.
Would it be easier to just buy one that's already to go?
Ricado Marquez I guess it would be, but for many people that’s simply too expensive. To be fair though, this isn’t exactly as simply as 1, 2, 3 either. Depends on what you’re going for I guess
@@OdysseyOverland4x4 I need to get mine done just haven't got to it yet.. and working on these older trucks can get expensive fast
Ricado Marquez Tell me about it. That’s why I can only make videos so often haha!
@@OdysseyOverland4x4 I have a 78 chevy and dont know what parts to order.. I'm not sure if those doors have been replaced? I might have to pull the vent window out and figure out what I need
Ricado Marquez you don’t have to pull it to find out what to order. Most likely you have a 1 piece seal. You have to just look around and see if the seal looks like it’s 1 piece or 2 pieces like my video! And then you will know what to get :)
we non smokers called them fly windows, I guess cause they vacuumed out the flys
Lol as a non-smoker myself, can't say I've heard that one! If you had that many flys in your vehicle you might have other problems lol
The main thing I was watching this video is for is the rivets have no experience with this they are a pain in the butt
Motor Boat super easy. Simply load and squeeze. Look up how to use a rivet tool and you'll see just how dead nuts simple it is!
Took me 4 hours just for rubbers
Not so easy, but informative.
It’s a wing window. Not a smoker window. You young guy drove me crazy with you diction.
The 1985 Light Duty Truck Shop Manual (published by GM, and sitting in my lap right now) refers to it as the "door ventilator assembly", and the pivoting glass as the "door vent." The section on this job is entitled "ventilator glass replacement."; it's on pages 10-12 and 10-13.
So: you old guys with your made-up terms drive me crazy. Even though I'm also an old guy. 😂
way to many ads on your video
