Wow! Haven't seen this film for decades, but remember it as an almost perfect example of early 70's British " Arthouse" filmmaking, bleak; depressing; and decline obsessed. Before the horrendous "Feelgood" movies we had honest to goodness "Feelbad" movies like this, Kim Newman and Matthew Sweet in the extras !!!! Caramba!!!! If only every British DVD could boast this. Perfect review from an impeccable reviewer.
Everything that Davy said is true....but more so. I saw this film on TV years and years ago and I still remember its impact on me. For a long time I thought it had a Terry Nation connection, but I think that it is just because of Carolyn Seymour (being in Survivors). This movie is great. I am not sure if I would call it enjoyable, but if you are in the right mood, this movie is very powerful. Davy, I think that you should invent a new term for movies like this. I would like to suggest "Bleak-core". Have you any other suggestions?
I think the best term for this type of film is "70's British", if you've seen any of the "Adventure"; "Confessions" or God forbid "On The Buses" films, then you'd know that even the "comedies" were bleak.
I work in a Secondary School . Sadly, although none of the pupils resort to murder, I have seen bullying and victimisation of teachers by the pack mentality, so the film has resonance with our society today.
Never heard of it, excellent review Davy your review has me intrigued.
I think what's weird is it still doesn't have a UK release. Great review. It's a fairly standard thriller, but it is really well acted and chilling.

Too kind!
Thanks Davy.

I watched it a few nights ago. Agree 100%. I do want to go back and listen to Uncle Kim’s commentary.
Twice he asks Sean Hogan a question and answers himself before Sean can speak!
Nice review , from one of the nasty kids
Lipstrob? Amazing! All the very best!
Never heard of this film, will have to check it out.
If you do, let me know what you make of it! Cheers
You will have more followers than Elon musk soon 👍
Think the register was parodied to great comedic effect by Rowan Atkinson on (I think) Live In Belfast.
He did it on the Secret Policeman's Ball, for sure!
@@DavysFlicks that's the fella! Peter Cook's judge 🤣
Love this film. Read the play in the 70s and wanted to see the movie. It eventually turned up on UA-cam but I think it's been removed.
I've no idea what kept it from release for all these years - and was even more baffled no-one in the doc, commentary or booklet mentioned it!
