Hi. Im setting up a low tech indoor mushroom farm at home but am having difficulty finding information on if i need to apply for any permits or licences. I registered with the local council as a food preparing business but have now been told i didnt need to do this as they dont cover growing and selling mushrooms. Are their any restrictions, or do i just need to register with companies house
Holy moly, I am planning on starting mushroom growing for a month now, just ordered my first liquid cultures. And now I find your channel! Its a sign I tell you.
Just Brilliant, I do realise how much work it is going to be my angels said be brave and patient. To find you on youtube is great and I am sure I will be visiting your website for more morsels of info. The construction of anything is second nature for me Brickwork & woodwork, electrics & electronics, welding & ducting, fan systems & clean access to lab, but the QR scanning of the bags, deliveries documented, spreadsheets ( Did learn Excel yrs ago ) is where I will need bodies. KISStupid, and also Proper preparation & planning prevents p*ss poor performance. Soooooo Glad I have found you two leg-ends, just have to leave the UK 1st. Yeah tonnes of work but Hey Ho doing nothing else that interesting, and have time I think...... Thanks for your Clip on starting a business, VERY GOOD ADVICE. xxx
Thank you so much, Adam and Eric, for your insights... I never regretted to have joined your Online-course. It was extremely helpful and a perfect start in the mushroom dimension and when I am stuck, I come thankfully back to it, knowing too, that there will be help from your very friendly fb group. It's easy to get lost with all the different challenges, as the importance of marketing, define goals and targets, something I don't like. And to monitor costs and time. Thank you again, back to reality...
You guys really have me wanting to turn my unused unfinished basement into a grow facility. I lvoe growign and this would be an amazing thing to get into
Sound like a plan! Have a watch of this video, might give you some things to think about for the different stages of mushroom growing: ua-cam.com/video/icKeO-kyiGk/v-deo.html
I did, and it's growing very well. I'm in the US so taxes and regulations aren't as bad as Europe thankfully, but its still a lot of work. It's 100% doable so long as you have perseverance and a vision. I'm now over 1 year in and I'm selling 30lbs per week, and about to double that within the next few weeks
I did take the 1st year as a learning experience, only investing in it what I got from my pay check working at a factory. Kept my customers small, did 1 farmers market, and just learned everything I could and made my own way with the experience and knowledge of others
@f1rebreather123 the price varies by species and if it's retail, wholesale, or farmers market. Lions mane I can sell retail foe 12, wholesale for 9, FM for 20 but blue oyster mushrooms I sell for 7 retail, 5 wholesale, and 20 FM
I think of all the places I've seen to get info about growing mushrooms, you guys are the best. I appreciate your straight forward working man's approach. I consider mushrooms to be a simple low tech food source. So what better than a low tech way to produce it. I'm looking forward to taking your course to see if I can generate some income here in Minnesota, USA. Keep up the good work!
Hello, absolutely brilliant videos. You have posted a question and answer one in the past. I’d like to ask, can you take the spent substrate with the wonderful mycelium growth add fresh substrate and grow another batch of mushrooms??? Many thx Ken
Yes, you can. In the industry they inoculate sawdust with grain spawn and then use this sawdust to inoculate even more bags. It’s not the same as ‘spent’ substrate because it has more nutrients, but as long as you add more nutrition it should work. We’ve used spent substrate on wood chip beds in the garden and it works
i love this video, lots of reminder before i got starter, i want to grow mushroom long timeago never had a change to started. and now i started to learn from zero, and saw this video very usefull.. thank you
Hey Dapur Janna, if you're looking forward to beginning your mushroom growing journey @benjidelics is someone you should definitely contact to give guidelines and accurate materials for start up
Does your course also have tips on marketing, finance help and other things like this? I am a microbiologist by trade so business related things aren't my strong point and really need help learning what to do when it comes to finance management and taxes etc, thankyou 🙏
Hello! it does, we have lessons that cover marketing and ones that cover finance, with some downloadable spreadsheets to help you look at the figures involved in setting up and running a mushroom farm. What we don't cover is tax, and that's purely because we have course members form all around the world, and tax is very different across all of these locations, but we do say that you can approach an accountant who has experience in small businesses with a bit of a background on farming/horticulture, etc... Good luck in your growing!!
When I was learning in my previous apartment, I started a patio garden. The spent blocks and contams would go into a big bucket for compost to be added to soil later. I also reached out to friends with gardens who were more than happy to hear about what mycelium could do for their plants. Post them online for free and someone will pick them up for sure. :)
@@melparadise7378 Can you use that compost to generate biofuel? For some idea I though if you produce quite a lot maybe it could be useful to do some gas and use it for the sterilization process to save money?

Hey guys! New here, new to mushrooms, newly subbed. Gonna have PLENTY of questions, but first is --> DO YOU HAVE PATREON?? 🤩🤩 There aren't many that I LOOK to support - but this channel sure seems worth it!
Mushroom-specific things I've learned to not waste time so far - If you're working in small batches, don't sterilize more sub than you need as it's likely to go off if not sealed properly and you let it just sit for a while. When prepping sub, it's better to have it too dry than too wet because of potential contams. Gypsum powder is your magical friend. Needle biopsy works just as well for live cultures if you don't want to mess with agar at all. Small batch grain spawns can be done in jars without filters if the jar is only about 1/3 full (for experiments and small scale things). Still learning...
I can recommend you to where I get my stuff from an online store his got his got Shrooms, psychedelics, alongside other products well Refined ships to anywhere discreetly.

This explains some of the what, and how. But I'm interested in the why. What is the market opportunity for a grower per m2. Realistically what revenue/profit are we looking at before we need to bring in another pair of hands?
Hi - great question - and a hard one to answer as it depends on many factors which change depending on where you are - such as the type of mushroom you're planning on growing, substrate, labour and energy costs in your area, the demand for a particular type of mushrooms - it's worth you doing a study in your local area and see what's right for you - where are you based? Thanks for watching too!!

how do u pasturize your straw and compost
With a pressure cooker. or let it dry out, and rehydrate with boiling water.

what type of oyster mushroom generation is used to produce fast mushrooms, I use the F2 generation and the mycelium growth is very slow.
How do I begin a mushroom business from my apartment and how do I compost the used mushroom blocks after use?

do you think this successful business is going to chat to you publicly about psilocybin @@FrankEmmanuel799
Do you need permits or licences to sell mushrooms grown at home indoors?
That would depend on where you are from. You'll have to check your local regulations.
In the USA, is the market over saturated?
I think its at a tipping point, but the biggest grower in my city left a few years back, definitely a huge opportunity left
No way. Portobello
Depends where you are at, there's around 300 small to large farms in the US. To supply up to 300 million people, that's not nearly enough.
Mushrooms don’t really travel well so small local producers are at an advantage
Which system do you youse ?
