What do you mean, Luke? These guys are TOTALLY relatable! Who among us DOESN'T love a particular breakfast food so much that we get a TATTOO of it on our body and go around shirtless 24/7 so everyone can see it? And come on, an ART CURATOR? I'll have you know I'M an art curator and where did I get my start? That's right, in a violence gang.
I don't know if they intentionally meant to mirror it, but what really got to me was a comparison with Saints Row The Third. A very early mission has you picking up Pierce and driving somewhere to buy clothes. The characters have really believable dialogue and sound like they really have history, and then you get to Pierce turning on the radio and both characters get really hyped up for the song "What I Got". They proceed to duet the entire song with really relatable back and forth, singing and goofing off in the exact way the average person does with their friends during a drive. It's an absolutely iconic moment. Now you have this new game, and early on you are driving to rob a place with your r/AntiWork zoomer friend who proceeds to put on Motivational CEO ASMR about him being his own boss. Who is this game for?
they even mirror it in 4, i know 4 has its haters but that moment when the mc and pierce decide to do a sing along again only for the antagonist to hack the radio and sing over them ruining the mood was hilarious
i have so much love for our mc and their story. my first intro to sr was the third. it had just released and a friend of mine had it. instantly hooked from the graphics, the dialogue, the characters, the music. i would have preferred if the reboot at least showed the og saints being wiped out to make room for the new ones to start making their mark. or taking inspiration from them-- which could have resulted in a cool confrontation moment with the og saints pulling up ready to jump these posers. anything would have been better than the devs saying "this is what it is now. deal with it." this attitude worked when they were trying to set themselves apart from gta but it doesn't here. it comes off as deaf, blind, and dumb. we weren't asking for another sr2 ( most of us ). we were asking for that vibe again. to wake the boss up from whatever fever dream they're having ab aliens and space and get back to business. nobody asked for a new crew.
If you actually read through 10/10 metacritic reviews, you quickly come to the conclusion 90% of them are devs or bots the publisher/dev bought, and goddamm, if I had a nickel for every time my bad review was deleted from metacritic, I'd have...more than a few nickels. Extremely bad landscape we find ourselves in as consumers.
Also on reddit! They seem to literally hire or make the employes to write the reddit posts (about bugs etc .) in very understanding, lovely, (rainbow ass puking) way and literally any, I say A N Y reddit comment about how the game really looks/feel like etc. (without profanities etc.) is just deleted. Literally dudes them knobs made a full on team on both Reddit and Metacritic to make their dumb ass stock go back to normal again. It's just censorship in its finest.
I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but bots are EVERYWHERE. Ever notice all the weird celebrity meme videos that aren't particularly interesting but are suuuper viral? The publicity is all bought it's so easy to do now
Nothing is genuine , irganic or real anymore. & it barely took a decade foe this transition, Vs in fiction where we gave them 100 years or so to become entirely bankruptcy creativity & ethically fallacious in every sense , & it didn't take a world ending war & post apocalyptic destruction, just the blueprint of how to fake a pandemic and get paid billions in the process by producing absolutely nothing to the public. It is amazing how quickly generations have changed from demanding self excellence & pushing yourself to the creative edge - into just being a total waste of air & space. Bravo !
24:45 - "This style of shooting and stupid AI and stuff was perhaps passable in 2008 maybe, you could say that, I think".... Well, fun fact, Saints Row 2 was released precisely in 2008, I'm playing it right now and I can say for a fact that the AI and the gunplay and the enemy behaviour and all of that is better in Saints Row 2 than in Saints Row Reboot, the same saga did the things better in 2008 than they did in 2022.
It was mid 90s acceptable AI ... at most ! SR2 was a bit glitchy on the PC but at least twice this game feature-wise and with way better AI and immersive gameworld.
I always go back to saints row 2 when thinking about the peak of the series. Poisoning a dude's tatoo ink with radioactive waste, locking his girlfriend in a car and letting him run over it in a monster truck, locking a rival leader in a coffi nand burying him alive... it was brutal stuff like that that helped the cartoony stuff stand out.
@@TheMinidow SR2 also has by far the longest main story, brilliant NPC AI and best side-missions. It's open world was really massive for a 2008 game. It punched so hard above its weight it's hard to believe in retrospective...
I’m legitimately scared for the video game industry. I’m in school for it and honestly don’t know where it’s going. Almost every game released today is underwhelming and not finished.
I know what you mean. I got into game studies as a researcher - you know, the theoretical and philosophical aspects of games and stuff - and ever since, I've been thinking that we're due another crash some time soon. But nowadays I've began to think that the industry has become too big to just crash, if you know what I'm saying. There are too many branches to it, and the clientele is so diverse that it's not possible for all of it to react in a similar way even if the tipping point appears over all the platforms at the same time. Some are saying indie gaming is where it's at...and sure, indie gaming is outdoing AAA at the moment. But I doubt they will ever get to the financial strength required to replace the AAA industry. So I guess we wait and see how much worse it can get?
@@TG-ge1oh everything must come to an end. AAA titles have now become stale and complacent. Soon people will grow tired and lose excitement. It will be the death of AAA but something new will arise.
@@williamadiputra2850 Well that's what I'm hoping for. But the rot is far-spread. Look at the freemium gaming model. They're just as much a part of this downfall as the AAA industry, yet they aren't interdependent enough to collapse with one another.
@@variousghozt6418 It's not hard to have fun with a friend with very little. It is still a sandbox you can mess around in. You probably could have the same mount of fun with a game or something that costs way less money than what the game is now.
This isn’t a real game. It’s a game dev engine kit for studios looking to make the next Fortnite clone. A lot of people aren’t talking about it, but it’s the truth. Volition slapped on the cheapest dev team they could find just to pull off this money grab. The real money is in selling this shitty engine off to indie devs.
imma put on my tin foil hat and say they are just putting out shitty games to gain as money as possible for a plan for world domination... like world economic forum
The "fun" is currently considered toxic and politically incorrect. To correct this, Volition had to hire diversity and equity experts to figure out what to rip out.
Hearing Luke flip the hell out about his character getting on the car 100 times literally made me laugh until I was crying. 🤣 "Maybe it's better in the m- GET OFF THE ROOF"
Society: "You know cancer is pretty bad we should probably try to cure that" UC Berkeley: "Best I can do is a carbon footprint calculator with a subscription payment that totally isn't a grift"

@@white6505yeah. But I still have to go to work almost everyday so what should I do? Lock myself in the house on the weekends? Or get an electric car that is just as harmful or worse then the vehicles we have now? I’m all for changing the environment but our whole infrastructure has to go out the window for us to get anywhere.
the devs even said. we created characters that you want to invite to your home. yeah thats not what we want in saints row. the old cast of saints row would kick thair a$$. we dont want lovable characters we want pure psychopathic criminals. thats what the whole saints row is about.
Exactly, the old saint row would break into our house, est up all of our food, break shit, but then make you laugh at how crazy they are, here you'd probably face pie all of these knobs whenever they showed up to your door. It's definitely not the same
and even then, they failed. The new crew of saint's row are basically the pseudo intellectual violent antifa types who claim their highly educated, and care about the current issue, but are really hate fueled narcissists who just use current issue as a means to make themselves feel good and justify their shitty treatment of those one the wrong side of history. sad thing is I could easily see the old volition studio team making a pretty good game out of that premise openly mocking the twitter activist crowd and their delusions of before gat and crew get ejected from a portal quarter way through the game and start raising seven kinds of hell.
There's a part of me that wants to believe the dev who made that quote was just using a cheeky turn of phrase, to describe how the player would want to come back and play the game over and over again. But the more cynical and pragmatic part of me quickly realizes that no; they created characters that they would actually WANT to hang out with. And that's completely antithetical to an open-world crime sim telling a rags-to-riches gangster story.
In Saints Row the Third, had a part where Pierce and the Boss are riding in a car with What I Got by Sublime and the radio and they start singling to it. That is just one thing, that made the other games great and built up characters, without punching you in the face with dumb jokes.
The game that is known as the saints row that everyone says "punches you in the face with dumb jokes" I'm starting too think half of y'all either don't know what you're talking about or don't know how too articulate why you don't like it
SR3 infact is more over the top and dumb in it's presentation. You could've used any moment from saints row 2 but saying SR3 doesn't punch you in the face with dumb jokes show you don't what you're talking about since that's the less serious of them all.
@@BlackHippy313 The problem with the dumb jokes in this reboot is because it feels like it doesn't go over the top enough in the overall tone of the game and characters and gang types, but still has the kinda beat you over the head jokes/quips. It doesnt feel like it commits all the way to the goofiness. It feels like it wants to have the dumbass humor of SR3, but also wants to tell a story in a slightly more grounded setting. The most nutty gang is Marshall, and the worst they get in terms of over the top stuff is a hover bike and a VTOL, but you never really fight the VTOLs yourself and the hover bike enemies aren't common at all. It was very odd, because when they showed up for the first time in the reboot, I was like "oh, here we go, now we're picking a tone and going over the top, let's see where this escalates to then", but it never really becomes more than that. They try to do a dream sequence near the end of the game too, but it feels unfinished and really wasn't that crazy in terms of throwing a wrench in the normal expected shooting mechanics or visuals. It was just a nightmare about being a bad friend, but it feels disjointed because that issue feels like it just comes out of nowhere in the last hour of the game.
I've done an annual from-scratch playthrough of 2 since 2008, that's how captivating it is. The reboot is like I'm on a business trip that I can't wait to end.
The latest Saints Row is not lackluster at all. It is one of the most fun games that I have played in some time. The new world, the characters, the graphics and the story are all top-notch, and there is a plethora of missions that will keep you occupied for quite a while. A lot of the new content they are planning to release will even be free to play.
Two is genuinely enjoyable, and 3 and 4 are passable braindead fun if you don't take them as serious as you can take 2, but yeah this Reboot seems absolutely vapid and empty in comparison.
What I love about this video most is that you genuinely gave this game a fair shot. Then delivered your points without hyperbole or even vitriol. Just fair, grounded criticism.
These people looked at Steve Urkel and thought "Man, this guy would totally make a badass criminal if we just gave him clothes that made him look like an even bigger nerd."
The original Saint's Row (2006) had original music (Aisha), hilarious radio ads, radio hosts, weather, etc. It fell off hard from 3 onwards but for this new one to have radio silence is just embarrassing.

I think the additional part about the writing and having the cast talked endlessly about Capitalism is that it’s done so lazily. They could include really bleak and meaningful parts to the story to really show how bad things can get instead of just having everyone in the cast be young philosophy preachers with guns
Yeah. The anti-capitalism is thrown in because the game couldn't settle on having an actual plot and thought "the youth" would appreciate it, not because they had any idea what to do with it.
I also don't think enterprising gangsters aren't in any way fit for delvering that message. I think, personally that makes it even more hollow. I mean basically in every game (minus 1 I never played it so can't say) ur basically monopolizing the crime for yourself. Sure it's technically not economical but they legit become a brand by 3 and lead amerca by 4. Like ok definitely silly but there's just no place for anti-capitalism there because I'm busy shooting furries in a death game. Like hello? Just let me have fun.
It's so badly implemented it sounds like it was purposely done to mock people like the characters in the game. Like "Haha, Zoomer commies are a bunch of entitled brats that want stupid jobs and think robbing and murdering people is OK to get what they think they're entitled to."
@@lastmanstanding7155 Not only in random dialogue either. But in mission your character hold conversations with the people they are murdering. All spoken with a casual tone about how evil capitalism made them a victim of circumstance and have to do what they got to do (Murder/steal/destroy property). And they do all this while having these almost preachy/cring dialogue with one another. It feels like this game was made by know-it-all angst ridden teens that think Murder and stealing is super cool as long as your a victim of the System. It's just sooooo bad and amateurish stuff that would make the worst B-Movie blush. Like those Mock Buster Movies that were hastly thrown together to sell around the same time as the Movie they're copying. Jurassic Park = Jurassic Island. Those Movies are so thrown together with such poor dialogue it's actually funny. But this Saint's Row has found another level to sink to. It's almost impossible to believe real adults could write such nonsensical trash.
The funny thing is there's a game that touches on the downsides of capitalism and consumerism really well; Bioshock. I mean, yeah' there's a few other themes in the game, and the game is more about how dangerous the extremes of political views can be, but the game is built around the city of Rapture, a place meant to be a capitalist paradise, but falls to it's own hubris. Yet the game doesn't feel preachy or annoying in the slightest, because the game isn't trying to lecture you. It just shows you, and makes you come to your own conclusions. Then there's this game. Just have some bow-tie wearing hipster lecture us in between talking about waffles and casual murder.
One of my biggest fcepalms has been car health. If you shoot a normal parked car it has average HP. If it's driven by enemies, they explode in 5 rifle shots. If you're driving, a ricerocket gains the fortitude of a sherman tank. Compare this to the fact that enemy heads are made of lead and are stronger than their own cars.
Volition just got shut down a few weeks ago. what did they expect after Agents of Mayhem and Saints Row reboot failed. They said that they would scale the came back to no be offensive because it was 2022. All the old fans turned on them. they got what they deserved
It does annoy me when games like the new Saints Roe try to force in a coherent, serious (usually political) narrative when its clear the game simply isnt built around that kind of story. The reason games like Metal Gear and Disco Elysium have such interesting and thought-provoking messages and narratives is because their entire game/story structure is built around having this kind of serious narrative. Saints Row just feels like they wanted to appear deep and serious so they slapped some dialouge into the game about economics and stuff last minute. Bit cringe imo
"It gets better later!" Those people make me irritated. It needs to be good in the beginning or else it doesn't really matter. Josh Strife Hayes said it best, "You can have a bad ending, you can probably get away with a bad middle, but you can't have a bad beginning, but if any of them are bad, just make them good." Something along those lines.
@@iamnizorro9781 Ye. I'll admit though that after watching a Let's Play, Kevin and Neenah did kind of grow on me but not enough to make me actually like them. They're okay at best. Tthey can't match how great the OG Saints characters are.
Hi, I am a non-subscriber here. For all other visitors like myself, this is a long video, so I summed up some critical quotes I thought this person made in this video for others: 27:27 'I'll be honest, I just don't get pleasure out of touching this game. There's no dopamine going into my brain, it's literally a chore' 31:12 'exposing the AI' 34:40 'It's unbelievable that we have this issue now in 2022 that you can sell a game this broken' 42:20 -'When a normal person like you or me, runs into someone like this [the characters], we don't hang out with them again' 46:47 'Do yourself a favor, don't buy Saints Row, don't bother, I don't think there's any reason to play it full stop, even if it goes on a deep deep sale. I would stay away from it. Problems go so deeply that it's just not worth your time.' My summary of this video: this guy brought the receipts, and makes a logical and damning case against this game. This is a long video, but it's not filler (besides the early in-video ad). It's worth a watch, especially near the end where he really dismantles this game. He is not a hater, and obviously wanted to, and have an enjoyable game, but this is not it.
I mean if you took enough from the video that you watched the whole thing, wrote a review of your experience watching it, and made a point of time stamping quotes that stood out to you...maybe you should throw the guy a sub
@@SteveJonesOwnsDSP his reviews are usually long and hes usually right aswell except for when he said some shit like assassins creed future looks bright which is just a crock of shit
Apparently, it ended up being exactly what I feared it be before I actually thought that the last trailer looked like it could be pretty fun and the customization seemed really nice. Something tells me the Volition of SR2 are LONG gone. Not just the mindset, but the people themselves like the Obsidian that created FNV.
The studio might as well bring in the towel at this point. Imagine waiting since 2013 for another main Saints Row to get this game. I have gripes with GTA V, also, but with Red Dead Redemption II, and all of the improvements made in that game, makes me curious about VI, for better or worse, we'll see.
@@ahgksi I expected less than the bare minimum and certainly not Saints Row. And this couldn't even do that. Not being disappointed doesn't mean it's acceptable.
it upsets me so bad because I tried my hardest to get the job when they were hiring for the reboot. It feels like there wasn't any true SR fans working on the game. And I'm not saying I can single handedly do something justice but I feel like I would've been a great QA Lead that could communicate to the dev team about concerns etc.
A buddy of mine bought this game. I've been watching him play it. He has run into every single glitch that has been listed online and found a few more. Entire missions breaking, entire parts of a map or an npc, not loading. The amount of floating heads and arms my buddy fought... It's gone to a point where it's so bad, it was bought out of that curiosity and nothing else. We got it, to see if it was that bad and it 100 percent is broken as hell. Worst of all, when it's not broken, it feels like the furthest things from a Saints game. Nothing like your gangsters saying "later gator" as they sip on some strawberry and crystal champaign xD It's horrible and anyone defending this game is either blind or openly sucking the dicks of the devs. Quick! Someone get them a napkin for their chins!!!
I just think, at this point, there’s been so many open world games. So many ground breaking, unforgettable ones, and so many poor, boring uninspired ones. The standards are insanely high. Games like this just do suffice anymore, and haven’t for a long time. Baffles me companies still think people want open world games designed like this!
How hilarious that the writers guild wants to unionize and protect shit writers in video game industry as well. This is what we'll see more often if that happens mark my word.

@@MichaelDoesLife I wasn't trying to be original? Does it make you feel better about yourself to attack others opinions on the Internet? I looked at your review and 1. You seem to have a pattern for this sort of behaviour (you should probably reflect on that although I'm sure you use controversy to grow you're UA-cam channel) and 2. I checked out your review and you make the same take so I fail to see your point beyond trying to drum up interest in your UA-cam channel. Best of luck to you but yeah sort yourself out
And as for this soundtrack, unless you like trippie red, playboy Carti or the devs' family members' mixtapes, this soundtrack is one big steaming turd. Tdu3, you're my last hope
Your point at 40:20 is 100% correct, i accidentally clicked the credits (which I couldn’t then get off) and seeing the photos of the developers, they don’t look like the type of people who would make a video game about violent gang warfare and witty commentary on open world games, not criticising their appearance they just don’t look like a group to make a saints row game
Gang bangers arent out here making games. If you look up the original saints row you'd see it's a bunch of old white men whose never been too the hood. Have any of you ever thought that game devs probably have never lived in the area or around the type of content their games make. Saints row 1 and 2 is based off of Chicago and Detroit I live in Detroit looks nothing like Detroit. There's no "you look like you'd make a saints row game" because for the most part their all nerdy white dudes infatuated with gangster culture
40:35 yes! I don’t know a single person they behaves, speaks, or dresses like anybody in this game. It’s sad that people who make this game think other people relate to this
I heard that the makers of this took influence from the ultra woke feminist gamer Anita Sarkeesian. Making a character that looks like Creepy Joe sounds appropriate for this game.
Saints row 4’s only issue is it was supposed to be a dlc for 3 but the publisher made them put it out as a full game. The only reason they reinvented the game is because they couldn’t replicate the humor and charm of the original, the original people aren’t there anymore.
You’re right but I don’t think the developers are like this, I think they’re trying to convince the youth that people are like the characters in this game. 10/10 do not waste your money on this game!
I was sure they were going to make an actually good joke when the guy was looking at the angel with the choir music playing and glowing light shining through and instead and of saying "the Saints" like you expect, he says "the 54th street reapers" and the others are like "Are you fucking serious?" All pointing to the mural.
Saints Row has always had a quite an impressive car-crushing mechanic. I don't want to spoil too much about the story in the sequel, but I will say that it is extremely over-the-top and quite entertaining to watch. As mentioned, this is definitely a game for those who love first person shooters, but I would recommend it as a title for anyone who has a thing for first person shooting games.
You missed that user's point when they said they never finished a GTA game. the point they were making is that they finished all of the Saints Row games and none of the GTA games because they found the Saints Row games enjoyable while they did NOT find the GTA games enjoyable, so much so to the point that they could never even finish playing a GTA game whereas they found all of the Saints Row games engaging to the point that they completed every single one of them.
The original idea of how the Saints started was incredibly original and had so much emotion behind it. Plus I preferred the protagonist from the first game and they didn't even talk... they didn't need to.
Saints Row reboot is like bringing back Beavis and Butthead for the third time. I’m not touching this game with a 10 foot pole. GTA over Saints Row any day.
I liked when he made fun of the guy for not liking GTA even though he hadn't finished GTA. And then Luke went on to say how much he didn't like Saints Row even though he hadn't finished it. WHICH IS IT, LUKE!?!?
Something I detest of current media is the need of a character being "relatable", since most of the time it means that is a shallow character with just surface level characterization to seem like a regular person, or what the writer thinks a regular person behavess. Give me interesting and fascinating characters, not this mockery. Also, that reviewer saying those pile of trash characters is relatable clearly only lives on twatter if it thinks that they are relatable, unless is sliping unto us that it is a trash person out of touch with reality, which seeing the review, that was clear.
Agreed the whole point is Media is to ESCAPE our own reality, i have never met a person like Rick Grimes, or Lara Croft but they become relatable by how they handle situations in their world, it helps you escape and even adapt to the bullshit happening in yours. Even the original Playa, Gat, Third Street Saints yeah they are psychos who'd probably even up cause WW3 in our world but that level of craziness in their world is the perfect escape and fun we need
I'm heartbroken, I was genuinely waiting for a good silly but action game, just something different... then I saw a content creator play and while they were having some fun I saw red flags, my friend bought it and I saw what the game is... a disappointment... I waited for this and now I'm just wondering if to even stay playing video games as this year shows me what devs and publishers are going for...
Why people argue about this game looking goofy when this was allways a game for laughs? Gamers are getting bored with games and only criticize and don't spend one single hour trying to get used to gameplay. The handling in the game when driving depends on the car and if you try those food vans you need to steal for Chalupacabra you can compare. The only thing weird about guns is sound. It has awesome missions and when you have a lot of things to do who the hell care about what NPCs do? No game is perfect and this is reality for all of you,if you want them perfect then build them for yourself.
The only thing is the reboot didn't have a single funny line in it the game wasn't funny maybe because they kept trying to push that yeah this is funny like oh my God holy crap LMAO that was the writing and humor of the game oh my God ffff crab crab crab sweaty horse balls not getting that's in the game yeah that's the humor of the human that appeals to two-year-olds unless you find sweaty horse balls funny
@@Sammy_the_best_there_ever_was That is what Saint's Row was designed for they never hide it. I think it makes more sense to criticize Ubisoft for when Farcry 5 and New Dawn came out because that is not Farcry style.

These are video games, not church. Don't preach to me, let me enjoy myself, have fun. I don't mind if your stories have messages, I'm a huge Persona fan and most of those games have amazing messages in them, but i love them because they're part of the story and don't treat me like i'm a fool, they instead give me characters who are compelling, interesting, and I enjoy my time with. I'll play Persona 3 or Mass Effect 2 and cry a thousand times after i finish the game, but I will only play Saints Row and cry after 5 minutes because of the torture i'm being subjected to.
I want to talk about your student debts bit because your reasoning resonated with me in the sense that the devs did not understand what audience they should have targeted. Here in France, student loans/debts are as foreign as a concept can be. We have so many governmental affiliated financial aids in our system that allow students' families to pay for their children's schools, and even as a young adult, those same systems give financial aid if you want to pursue a new career path via a training course. So, not only "Students debts" as a concept are unheard of here, we french people can't even relate to that either, meaning it's one less connection between us and the main cast of this game since we do not connect to that struggle on a personal level.
Despite some dishonesty from CDPR and glitch galore on base console, Cyberpunk 2077 did not get a large amount of hate compared to Saints Row Reboot. Aside from bugs and missing features, Cyberpunk 2077 have better story, better character, better design, better main quest.
And to the point of games being the next step in narrative storytelling, I agree. Though I would say beating the audience over the head with a message isn't good storytelling. Hell the Nomads from cyberpunk could be a perfect example of rejecting capitalism with their pieces together cars modified to handle the brush of the world outside the city.
I'm trying to figure out the style choices for these characters. Like the original went with early 2000s street life and hip hop but this one is like.. millenial Google interns in 2014? Why didn't they go with a modern take on gangs? Make an ATL or Chicago like city
They thot making the game honcey dorey would get them better sales they forgot non street folks play gta and mafia too they don't only wanna play games where the characters relate to washed people the point of games is to dive into a different world and live somebody dramatic story but nobody thinks about gang banging and imagines a story about nerds in college starting a gang like wtf idk why they didn't base it on a actual city where muthafuccas really gang bang like California or Chicago muthafuccas got niggas claiming the row in picacho Arizona doe cuz 🤣 like wat where tf is this game supposed to be my nigga jus remaster 2 for the ogs and we'll stop bugging volition
Nah I’m still pissed I wasted 70$ on this game after waiting n drooling 4 it.. after playing a few hrs I just got rid of it I was so bored n the graphics r aweful to me anyways it looked like company was tryna make a quick buck cuz thier mansions were in foreclosure or somethin if I could get a refund I would
What if the parody were the actual character designs, personalities and their motivations? It's 100% not of course, but that would be a really fun concept. Like "we know what direction you expected us to go in, so we'll make fun of awkward hollywood messaging and bad writing with these characters😏" "Let's write this story as if written by wine moms, buzzfeed employees and men who consume too much soy products"
As a player with no taste in games that has played about 5 in total (including candy crush), I found this game groundbreaking. I didn't realise games could look this good! The way they put people inside a game is crazy too, I just hope they are paying them well to perform for every person that gives this game a go.
I am both happy and sadden that this is your first experience with AAA Gaming, I suggest other games that are waaaaay better than this as a starter game
I already knew from the promo material that I wasn't going to buy this game from a franchise I loved so much but I do watch videos to see what the story entails
its hilarious how the first 2 games, destroyed this game in every aspect. and im still seeing animations from Saints Row The Third, a game that released 10 years ago on the 360 and PS3.
This game just feels like it was made 6-7 years ago and put into the freezer until now. It's not a horrible game but just outdated. Like it totally ignores all the leaps forward we have made in terms of graphics, AI, combat, mission structure, storytelling,... I am still enjoying the game, but it could have been so much more.
My favorite part of the game is when the Saints finally get a canoe, they proudly announce at the top of their lungs, "It's rowin' time!", and they all menacingly arm themselves with oars, and proceeded at full speed and aggressively rowed all over the bad guys at the end of the game. Of all scenes in a video game, this is one of them
Hey Luke, I've been playing through Contol recently. I just beat the main story and throughly enjoyed it myself mostly for the world that was created. I'd love if you made a critique for the game!!
I just started control last night on ps5! It is soooo good. I bought it a few months ago on sale and have been waiting to finish other games before starting. Damn it is good, and game mechanics are awesome. Love the launch 🚀
I just finished it and going through it again to get every little thing. It’s just a fantastically odd game. I love it. I agree. Let’s get a critique and play through.
That was 2021 GOTY for me. Also the only game I've ever played where I read _every single_ collectible document in the game. I absolutely loved exploring the Oldest House and I'm now playing through the game a 2nd time.
I Haven't Beat San Andreas to This Day Regardless it is My Favourite open world Game of all Time. And the Second best is The Saints row 2. When ever I get into open world Genre my Number 1 priority is The Soul and Life in that world.
I don't celebrate when a game does bad and the studio gets shutdown because of it, but I'm glad that Saints Row did as bad as it did. This shit ain't Saints Row anymore, and because of that it did so bad financially that it might have killed the franchise completely.😕
Great review Luke. You avoided any sensationalism, you weren't hysterical & delivered what came across as a calm and reasonably balanced account of the game. Do you think this one might get fixed or at least significantly improved with a future patch? What are your thoughts on why games are released in this state these days?
He did say , he does not think the game can be completly fix since there is plot, dialogue, and just overall gaming problems that with patches is not going to be possible. And for me I think the issue what a lot of games are being rush out is because investor just want to see the money rolling, therefore there is less time to release something at playable , just look cyberpunk or the clusterfuck that Halo infinite is becoming
@@Isaacalelopez I don't think alot devs know what they are doing, either. Like, they understand how to make things happen in a technical sense, but they don't seem like they are actually gamers wanting to make the games they want to play. I think they'd defend the shooting by saying "What? It works, technically!" instead of realizing that just technically functioning isn't good enough.
@@BWMagus In honesty I think they just make a game for themself and their discord, reddit echo chambers, because there is clearly a lack of objectivy critical thinking, this game feels like it was just created by a twitter feed or something
You're a needle in a haystack channel. I like your presentation, your demeanor and your critical thinking. You have gain a new subscriber and I'm confident I'll enjoy your content through the coming years. Cheers.
I often try to customize my characters to look like myself in games and it's usually not really achievable, but I'll never forget that I was able to make my character look _exactly_ like me in Fallout 4. It was actually rather uncanny...
Tbh I’ve played through the entire story and all 14 ventures and I’ve had easily less than 10 bugs/glitches resulting in failing missions or game crashes. I could be one of the lucky ones on that end I suppose but I enjoyed the storyline and ventures I wouldn’t say the game is perfect by no means but I also don’t believe it deserves all of the hate either imo
I think the bugs happen way more when you're talking to your twitch followers, not paying attention to the mission going the opposite way you're supposed to go. I've only had one bug that ended in a failing mission in about 8 hours
That’s not the case, this game still is basically SR3 and Agents if mayhem combined with updated old engine. It’s ass like if it was supposed to be a ps3 game. Even agents of mayhem is fun than this crap.
This was exactly the review I needed. I hate to see the franchise fall, again. I enjoyed 1 and 2 for what they were. Despite some criticisms I had a lot of fun with 3 and 4. I was really looking forward to a new title. Cringe character design aside I had a lot of hope for the series when the trailer was published... thanks for the review.
If they ever want to fix this series towards 1 or 2, they have to give player a choice to eradicate these posers on the next game storyline. Atleast it would give some meaning to creating this thing...
13:10 Saints Row 1 had original tracks (mostly Aisha songs in the first game) and 4 had music for on-foot traversal and combat. Surely they could have bought back in the musicians who worked with them to make their original musical content in earlier titles.
Honestly what is missing the world of the orginal SRs is that the world filled lived in, they had artisit, they had shops, they had all walks of life characters who made it fun to go back and tall to your friends. Hell, with Aisha alone, you actually heard the songs and talked to the characters and help her grow, where are these side characters. Remember the Pimp with the autotune in 2, or the weedheads at the college, the homeless dudes at RV yard characters like this made SRs memorable, in SRs22 it's so dull and forgetablle (makes it worse cause of the music glitch) that on top of bland story, really outdated controls and fight scenes, I don't think Volition cared about this game which is weird cause it's the game series that put them on the map
The 'Take me to Church' shootout took me over 30 attempts to complete and just like you I felt it wasn't entirely my fault. Bad camera angles, glitches of facing the wrong way when exiting zoomed aim or 2 of my NPCs dying etc, it was ridiculous. I eventually completed it but only when I lowered the difficulty so that enemies went down easier.
I legitimately really enjoy the game. It definitely feels outdated but to me, that’s not a major issue. I’m still having fun. The story is trash, the characters suck, but at this point, thats not why I’m playing. The graphics are also decent, definitely not the worst. I’ve ran into ZERO glitches and have been playing for about 20-25 hours. I understand the criticism it’s been having, but I’ve personally had fun.
23:11 I don’t think god of war was in the same situation as saints row. It has always had great reviews (not counting god of war ascension) correct me if I’m wrong but where did you get this info about the ratings dropping ? Based on what ?
It's so weird watching you drive the wrong way in traffic in a mission meant to terrify someone and be chaotic and the oncoming traffic isn't reacting AT ALL. No avoidance, no slamming on breaks, not even a horn beep until you're literally about to smash into one
The reviewer said they never finished the GTA game, which is something completely different than never played. I played most of GTAs quite extensively and also never finished one because of their strikingly restrictive, "one solution allowed" missions that feel like a punch to the face in contrast with the freedom of an open world.
I'll be honest, the sponsor might be bs. Recently learned that many companies that do this "offset" thing are using braindead math. imagine if my carbon emissions are astronomically big, but instead of cutting back on emissions, I just "offset" the emissions by doing work that would equal the same amount of emissions I put out. Basically I can just dump a bunch of green house gases in the atmosphere... NOT do a single thing about it and then partnering with companies that... get this, have been doing this kind of work for decades. Imagine BP oil company (yes, the evil one) doing their usual bullshit, then going to a company that has already been doing this "offset" of carbon emissions, and paying them millions to say that they themselves (not the company they paid, who have been doing it for decades) are taking steps to cut down on emissions... They didn't do jack shit but pay someone else, so they can say they did! That's this entire industry in a nutshell. Most of these companies are doing shady shit behind closed doors
What I find interesting is that first 100 people got their first month free with the link. That seems strange when they aren't giving any direct services, but rather are essentially setup like a charity, almost sounds like they want to hook you so you forget about the monthly payments.
Well...I don't think it's bad if you, like, pay someone, or a team, or an entire company, to plant a million trees or something. Just because the execs aren't personally doing it, or having their own staff do it, doesn't mean it's not a help to fund such efforts. Volunteers at a soup kitchen are useless without people giving them food to hand out, so donors have a role to play. That said, I am skeptical about things like this, because I wonder how much of it is just another form of PR from manipulative rich fucks. Like you said, they can easily fudge the numbers so that a small investment appears to wipe out massive emissions. And then when you see that the same companies are pushing to MANDATE such a system, because they already have their "get out of taxes free" card ready to play but know it will fuck their smaller competitors in the ass and further solidify their near-monopolistic control, yeah, it's just a little goddamn suspect.
Steve, WHO AMONG US
Wanna-be DJ who is shirtless 24/7 sounds like a carbon copy of OG Loc from GTA San Andreas.

The main characters seem like npcs in the past games
"in a violence gang" 🤣

Saints row 2 >
I always go back to saints row 2 when thinking about the peak of the series. Poisoning a dude's tatoo ink with radioactive waste, locking his girlfriend in a car and letting him run over it in a monster truck, locking a rival leader in a coffi nand burying him alive... it was brutal stuff like that that helped the cartoony stuff stand out.

Cheap-ass reboots without any substance, social politics agenda and middle school level writing.

A lot of people aren’t talking about it, but it’s the truth. Volition slapped on the cheapest dev team they could find just to pull off this money grab. The real money is in selling this shitty engine off to indie devs.

sad thing is I could easily see the old volition studio team making a pretty good game out of that premise openly mocking the twitter activist crowd and their delusions of before gat and crew get ejected from a portal quarter way through the game and start raising seven kinds of hell.
@@Isaacalelopez pierce was also cool and carlos
The dumb jokes land because the characters come off as ruthless psychopaths
Lol I loved that part. Also lost my shit when Mayor Burt Reynolds showed up 🤣
The fact that I will gladly play ANY of the previous Saints Row titles over this just says alot about how lackluster this reboot is
I've done an annual from-scratch playthrough of 2 since 2008, that's how captivating it is.

You're really asking for realism and stuff to make sense in a Saints Row game?
So what I don’t care about that stuff I play game and enjoy it

It does annoy me when games like the new Saints Roe try to force in a coherent, serious (usually political) narrative when its clear the game simply isnt built around that kind of story. The reason games like Metal Gear and Disco Elysium have such interesting and thought-provoking messages and narratives is because their entire game/story structure is built around having this kind of serious narrative. Saints Row just feels like they wanted to appear deep and serious so they slapped some dialouge into the game about economics and stuff last minute. Bit cringe imo

Hi, I am a non-subscriber here. For all other visitors like myself, this is a long video, so I summed up some critical quotes I thought this person made in this video for others:
27:27 'I'll be honest, I just don't get pleasure out of touching this game. There's no dopamine going into my brain, it's literally a chore'
31:12 'exposing the AI'
34:40 'It's unbelievable that we have this issue now in 2022 that you can sell a game this broken'
42:20 -'When a normal person like you or me, runs into someone like this [the characters], we don't hang out with them again'
46:47 'Do yourself a favor, don't buy Saints Row, don't bother, I don't think there's any reason to play it full stop, even if it goes on a deep deep sale. I would stay away from it. Problems go so deeply that it's just not worth your time.'
My summary of this video: this guy brought the receipts, and makes a logical and damning case against this game. This is a long video, but it's not filler (besides the early in-video ad). It's worth a watch, especially near the end where he really dismantles this game. He is not a hater, and obviously wanted to, and have an enjoyable game, but this is not it.

The studio might as well bring in the towel at this point. Imagine waiting since 2013 for another main Saints Row to get this game. I have gripes with GTA V, also, but with Red Dead Redemption II, and all of the improvements made in that game, makes me curious about VI, for better or worse, we'll see.

Those Car crushing mechanics have existed since Saint's Row The Third. It's not really that impressive
