Excellent video. This is really what I’ve needed. When I’ve been sewing on heavy duty Velcro with the adhesive backing, I’ve found that cleaning the needle every few inches with rubbing alcohol helps prevent gumming and shredded top thread. I just use the stiff brush on my chalk pencil. This may help with tape as well.

Hello & tyvm for this vid - if I'm understanding correctly, I should use 1/4 inch canvas basting tape to add a zipper to a sweater.....

Yes, you understood correctly. Using 1/4 inch canvas basting tape is a great way to add a zipper to a sweater. It helps to hold the zipper in place while you sew it onto the fabric. If you have any other questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask!

Excellent! Thank you. Which basting tape would you recommend please for my *fabric it’s weight is 345 gsm… (*100% polyester fabric back coated with polyurethane PU inherently treated, this gives the fabric a waterproof barrier resistant to water and block out rain) thank you.

For silicone-coated nylon or polyester ripstop, the tape for vinyl would be the best in this case correct?

I am going to assume the answer to my question is the Canvas basting tape.. but I don't like to assume.
What basting tape would be best for Polypropylene or Nylon webbing?

Yep, you are correct! We would recommend canvas basting tape to use on webbing. If you are curious about any other specific materials we have a chart in this blog ( www.sailrite.com/which-basting-tape-type-for-project ) that is very helpful!

I've used double sided tape to hold zipper tape in position for sewing handbags. However, the tape seemed to gum-up my needles. Any advice?

Good question! Here are a couple of tips:
      1. To prevent needle gumming, run your needle through a bar of Ivory soap before installing it in your sewing machine. The soap residue will help keep the tape from sticking to the needle.
      2. You can change your needle frequently or clean your needle with rubbing alcohol or adhesive remover.
