Eric, this is your father. You must have missed one of my early DVD videos where I explained the "perfect" technique for good-looking cushion corners. You must baste and sew them together keeping the boxing face up but flat on the table or machine and the inside surface of the plate vertical against the end of the machine. Then you baste and sew "through" the corner rather than turning "round" it. This way there is no gathering of the material and, thus, less likelihood of error. I will come in soon so we can do a demonstration video on this technique.
I definitely vote for a part 2! This was awesome! Thank you Eric for taking time to answer questions for us. I’m crazy excited to hear Sailrite plans to offer a cylinder arm machine in the future. I hope it’s sooner rather than later 🤗😃
I have a LSZ, added WorkerB, fine machine. The one accessory I would love is a 'straight stitch' needle plate, these were quite common on older, domestic, zig-zag machines because the small needle hole prevented fabric getting pulled down as the stitch was formed. One can always hope. Thanks for a great product, excellent customer service. YVR
Awesome video. You were using the same exact blue striped fabric on that cushion that we used in our saloon. I learned a lot on this video and never realized that Jim is your father. One of my favorite video series was on fabricating sailboat headliners.
Oh...this was fun! My question is...I am new-ish to the world of upholstery and love the fabric calculator. I plug in my numbers and it does it's thing...marvelous. How do I determine which way is up, for directional fabric? Thank you, very much.😊
Hi Eric! I absolutely love your videos and all of the Sailrite videos. I've made a few accent pillows with the hidden zipper/zipper flap in the back. I'm attempting to make outdoor patio cushions with this same type of hidden zipper/zipper flap on the zipper plaque. I'll post pictures when I'm done. I think (HOPE) they will look really nice, custom and professional. Thanks for this video, PLEASE do a part 2, 3, 4 etc. LOL and send me that cute little LSZ on the desk. Is that the Christmas ornament?
Loved the wire hung canopy on the outdoor pergola - well-done! Should I get my swingset pergola plans completed, I will be adding that feature using Sattler fabric. BTW Eric, that was my favorite home project too. 😉
I am very glad you had the idea for the support questions. We receive many repeat questions from customers so this was great to have these out in the open for everyone to see. Thank You! - Eric
Another question...All my life I have only sewn with DualDuty, Coats and Clark thread. Now I am finding out there is a whole world of different threads out there. You have done some videos on thread, but I need one that can explain it simpler. Also, when I go to purchase thread...how, pray tell do I know what size is what? I never see anything listed giving weight. I am really con-fuzed. Help, I need help. Thank you, very much.
Great question! We'll add it to Eric's list. In the meantime we have a couple of blogs that may help! This one helps with choosing the correct thread size: www.sailrite.com/Selecting-the-Right-Thread-Size and this one goes over everything thread www.sailrite.com/Ultimate-Guide-Sewing-Thread. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to email us at info@sailrite.com
I recently bought an Ultrafeed LSZ machine for sailmaking and canvas work. I would love to see you make a three step zig-zag upgrade. Please look into this. Thanks!
Looking forward to a cylinder arm machine. I just bought the leatherwork. Hopefully when you make one, it's affordable like the leatherwork. I liked the video, hopefully more follow and often.
I would like a part 2! I come from a high end domestic machine that gives me a heads up when the bobbin is getting ready to run out, automatic tensioning, etc. It's SO much easier to replace the bobbin on my domestic vs. my Fabricator (but I'm working on my technique!) Any plans on adding some features to the Fabricator? I'd definitely pay more to get some automated features. 🙂
Thank you for your Q & A . That little LSZ-1 on your desk, do you sell them for fun thing here at home? Yes I would like to see another vidio "Ask The Expert".
Stamoid lasts almost forever but it is very expensive and sort of difficult to work with plus the heavy duty grade is only sold to canvas shops because the rolls are super industrial width. Stamoid outlasts just about any thread exposed to UV which is a shame because when you need to restitch the old needle holes will leak water since this fabric is not self-healing at all. It's beat to use a lifetime thread which is harder to sew with making stamoid even more difficult to work with since sewing errors can't be fixed usually without leaving holes. Because of this it isn't often used -especially in DIY. We tried it because some of the existing canvas work was already in stamoid but the results were not always satisfactory plus wasting fabric at those prices is heartbreaking.
Great information and very entertaining as well! I vote for a Part 2 - my question that will be too late for me but might help other folks . I am making an AFT sailboat mattress that is large and stiff (5" premium cushion rite firm plus 2" standard cushion rite soft) that is one piece and I know it won't fit putting it "down the hatch". I can either split it in half and make 2 mattresses or use the silk shrink method to get it into the boat and then deflate. Do you think this will work? Other ideas?
Thanks for the feedback! We're glad you found the info helpful and entertaining. That's a great question! We will be sure to add it to our list for a potential part 2. Thanks for your suggestions, and stay tuned for more content! 😁
Hi, I’m in the UK and wanting to order flag tape. How long are the rolls of tape please and what would the cost be to ship to UK? I’m making 31 flags 🤦♀️
Have a question that didn't get answered? Leave a comment below with your question! If we get enough, we'll make a part 2!

Eric this was GREAT! Look forward to more.
Thanks for the awesome video Eric! Just another example of why people love this company so much.
I vote for a part 2 for sure!
That was a little bit of awesome! Love Sailrite. Love my Ultrafeed LSZ. Love your videos. I am new to the Sailrite community, but a forever fan!!

I love my Ls1 1 but I wish it had a knob to change stitch length
Well done !

Yes part two

Love it! You guys rock. Thanks for the good laugh.
Loved your question, maybe next time we’ll talk about my perfectly manicured fingernails! - Eric

Does Sailrite have plant tours? How can we schedule one?
I called Sailrite (I live close) and they will schedule one if you call. 👍
From your experience which fabric lasts the longest on outside surfaces whether it is a boat or a back porch.

I am looking to use the ptfe thread but for a hand needle for beadwork. What would be the strongest ptfe that would fit through a 2.1mm hole?
The seats with holes in the back, for example the Cobia or similar how are those holes made well?

I meant to say "inflate". Big difference🙃

Do you have a tuturoal on a rocking chair cushion

Alright Eric. I had the 1st question to you about making a cover for a center console. You need a boat? I’ll bring my boat out to Indiana from NH.
Sry, got a chuckle with you in diapers, thanks
Ah’ite Sai’rite 😂
