ok Bill - just had a fresh crack of the Vino De Naranja distillery exclusive. It is outstanding - a glorious sipping experience for the summer - you nailed the orange creamsicle with some syrup. Fantastic mouthfeel. I love the 8 Year reserve as my favorite, but damn this puppy is good. Thanks for highlighting this product.
"Rye finishes better" -- Now THAT'S a t-shirt! Lol. Such a true statement, at least for my palate. I absolutely love getting a surprise orange note in my ryes, so I think I would fall in love wtih this Sagamore. Great review, Bill. Btw, orange juice on your waffle? What was the look on your family's face when you did that? Lol. Now that being said, a little orange marmalade + maple syrup on waffles or pancakes doesn't seem like a terrible idea. Hmm..

Thanks for the line up and run down , they all sound unique in their own way. I’ve come across a sherry finish , cognac finish and a distillers select tequila finish. All sound interesting.
Thanks and yeah I wish they would do it larger but since they are only using the local port barrels that winery doesn’t sell a ton of port haha so barrels are limited and the same day transfer of emptied port to rye is what makes their product so unique and better than most port finishes but it also means limited they are doing it annually now though
Great review Bill. I'm heading down there next week to pick this up since they're right down the street from my office. I can't wait for the tart cherry mead cask finish to hit the distillery. Also keep an eye out later this summer. The Maryland collective is doing another pick with sagamore like the cherry pancakes from last year. And I agree 100%, rye does finish so much better than bourbon.
Oh man if you hear they drop the cherry mead let me know I want one of those as well. What is the Maryland collective doing this time another maple cherry or something else?

Hey Bourbon Bill. Just was able to pick up the Manhattan finish, going to compared it to the distillery exclusive I got online last year. Should be interesting!
Update. Did a blind side by side.. both good, but the newer, nation wide Manhattan finish won. It was fuller on flavor. Even though proof was the same.
Got a couple bottles of this I’m picking up this weekend that my future brother in law picked up for me. Super excited to try it. When I toured about a month ago, our guide said this was his favorite release they’ve ever done. My BiL also has a RR13 and Wild Turkey 12 yr for me. Sister picked a good one LOL
I despise Baltimore with a passion and refuse to go to the city. I wish this wasn’t a distillery only release. At least I have an 8 year and Manhattan finish to hold me over lol.

got the distillery Mezcal cask finish, and it is phenomenal. saw Penny and Edgar Allen Potstill during the tour. gotta love it!
That’s one from them I haven’t had . Didn’t try the mezcal or the tequila finish

The sherry was one of the best they have done. I don’t own a bottle of the cognac one but I’ve heard it’s very good

Bill the Manhattan batch 2 beats the Batch 1 - they dialed it back on the finishing and it works better.
Good to know I didn’t have batch 1 only a pour a few weeks prior to tasting 2 and I felt like I preferred 2

Haha those two are very good though. But yeah it’s best to go armed if you can into the city but the distillery itself isn’t in a bad area lol
