Not only does no part of the bible condemn abortion but in fact orders it to be carried out by a priest towards a married woman if the husband *suspects* that the woman may have been unfaithful. It is Numbers 5:11-29.
There can be excellent reasons to be anti-abortion on a policy level. For example, if there was a situation where population levels were falling dangerously low would be a reason to have a policy against abortion. Outside of that hypothetical, you could make a policy that a human fetus represents a human life and therefor is deserving of certain protections. As a humanist I am against abortion in any situation where the mother's life is not in danger because I recognize that the life in the womb is a human being. As an atheist I need no religious backing to acknowledge the value of human life.
@@Furry-iousNews You are responding to my hypothetical which, I concede, seems far-fetched and, by virtue of being a hypothetical, is the weakest part of my statement being open to hypothetical responses. However, if there truly was a situation where human populations were dropping precipitously and dangerously low then I think there could be a point were most would agree that it actually would become the responsibility of each individual to continue our species. And you would be wrong to say that we shouldn't. But hey, that's just a hypothetical, and I agree that it is not currently a reason to be anti abortion on the policy level. The rest of my initial response is in fact a reason to currently be against abortion on the policy level.
After all these years, listening to all these arguments from both sides, I'm slowly but surely changing my mind about who should get a say in the issue of abortion. Where before I was like 'hey, everyone can have a say, as long as they take into account how it literally effects WOMEN'S BODIES'. But now I'm like NO. No, no, NO. From now on only WOMEN should get a say in issues that only pertain to their unique physiology and anatomy. No men should ever, EVER have a say in whether or not a woman is ALLOWED to choose to undergo an abortion! Just like no woman should ever have a say in whether or not a man wants to have his balls removed (don't know why they'd want to, assuming they're not suffering from gender dysphoria). NO. From now on, only women should have a say in their bodily autonomy when it comes to abortions.
Clearly, this pastor ignores just how little his God cares for children. His God who told Abraham to sacrifice his son, his God who drowned vast numbers by drowning them, his God who punished David and Bathsheba by killing their son. He lives in a country where people value owning a gun more than they do protecting the lives of children.
"Whatever he [Eric] said..." And there it is. Failure to listen is so typical with these callers. They're not interesting in having a conversation. They only want to proselytize. But hey, "I'm open-minded!" claims the caller 🙄
Abortion is ugly, but so is life. If there was a god, it could send the soul back into a woman who wants this specific child. Why does God's power only work when it's convenient? He could change the DNA back to the original, or anything he wants. The opposition to abortion works better from a humanitarian perspective than from a theistic one.
What exactly would be the opposition to abortion from a humanitarian perspective? Most abortions happen before the clump of cells becomes more baby like. And miscarriages can happen at any time. Instead of trying to block people from accessing medical care, we should leave it up to the learned professionals and the people going through the pregnancy to figure out what they want to the future and how to go about it. 🤔
ETA: Giving humans comprehensive age appropriate sex ed at all stages of education and access to contraceptives, along with unlimited access to medically sound abortive measures is a much bigger boon for humanity from a humanitarian perspective. I urge folks to actually research human gestation, fetal development, and how abortions are actually done at all stages of pregnancy because it is a lot more complicated than what non medical media portrays.
I think you’re asking the wrong questions tbh. Why should religion have any right to interfere with our healthcare? Why should a group of unqualified people (many of whom don’t even have a HS level understanding of biology or evolution) have the right to forbid women from obtaining medical procedures from medical facilities that are performed by licensed medical professionals/doctors? See this is one of the dirty things Christian extremists do and hope nobody else notices. If anything contradicts their book then it must be wrong. Evolution? Oh that’s just a big conspiracy by “Big Science” to stone wall creationists and attack Christianity - and you should def listen to them and their ICR pseudoscientists instead. Sure genetics, radiometric dating, phylogeny, embryology, taxonomy, geology, and our own observations ALL independently corroborate evolution, but my book CANT possibly be wrong. How can you take anyone with that flawed of critical thinking skills seriously? They’d rather create whole new conspiracy theories - while hypocritically benefiting from modern medicine and technology every single day - than admit reality and risk losing more influence and control (💵) over their members. So why even waste a min of time listening to these same religious groups about healthcare matters & decisions? Our only response should be “if you’re not a physician or patient it’s really none of your business”.
@@Callimo _What exactly would be the opposition to abortion from a humanitarian perspective?_ Probably along the lines that “foetus/baby goes directly to heaven” is not a valid argument against humanitarian logic, but certainly works against a theological point of view. “Why are you upset that the baby goes straight to heaven?”
He is so proud of his captive audience in prison. He's the type to ignore that the Bible instructs men who believe their wife cheated on them on how to induce an abortion. He probably thinks that lawyer in Texas who fed his wife abortion pills didnt deserve his 180 days at all because hey- its in the Bible and that man is most certainly a Christian. His medical decisions get to be private, and that's his rights by the law but that isn't for us walking uteri. His feelings and his decisions matter more. I bet he absolutely holds food hostage if he volunteers with unhoused people (they used to do it too at the church soup kitchen in my small city- I volunteered to go help out once a week through work/volunteer credits at with the church group working through the HS). Bragging about ignoring womens health concerns and life concerns and holding captives hostage or not feeding unhoused people is proudness- something his Jesus actually did have words on. Glad I am not in America, I really am!
Me too. They have mixed religion, politics and medicine into a huge mess.. those 3 should stay separate. Would be the most rational thing to keep them separate.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: “may the Lord cause you to become a curse[d] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries."

I think it generally all traces back to the idea of a soul. From that point of view it's a person waiting for a body so regardless of what happens they view it as an adult male republican dying tragically at the hands of a liberal, until it's born or needs prenatal care, of course. If you don't start with the idea of an immortal consciousness temporarily enshrined in skin then _"This clump of cells is developing abnormally "_ sounds completely deranged to compare to homicide as does _"You drove over my vegetable garden! I could potentially have tilled my driveway and planted here! That's destruction of potential property! I'm going to sue you! In Court! Potentially!"_
Really? The proper way is a) comprehensive sex education, early and often b) easy and cheap/free access to pregnancy prevention c) comprehensive support, financially and socially and so on for children and parents. It takes a village … there are no villages of that type and certainly that pastor is not helping to make a village like that. What that pastor is doing is increasing the number of abortions - or “at best” cause harm and misery and needless suffering. And denying “children” to go straight to heaven.
In response to people using Jesus to veil their bigotry, the caller said 'I'm just one guy, what am I supposed to do?' The guy that harasses couples outside of abortion clinics TWICE A WEEK and pushes his bullshit beliefs to a literal captive audience in prison... It’s almost like abortion is a choice women make because of socioeconomic pressures. The same people that oppose abolition are supportive of policies that aggravate those socioeconomic pressures. If they actually believe that abortion is murder, they would be working to stop coercing women into feeling trapped into getting abortions.
It is appropriate to discuss abortion on Mother’s Day, because most women seeking abortions are moms, single moms, struggling to care for kids alone, trying to make the best choices for her family. As only a mother can do. Scary that this caller admits that he mostly yells at black people.
He says he gets to be aggressive to black men (accusing them of not being willing to provide for a child). Also while he infantalizes black women, that they are too emotional and delicate to be reasoned with. God this pastor is a bigoted asshole.
20:18 does the decision you are considering making directly effect the lives of two other individuals? If so, then SOMEONE should absolutely be able to step in and offer criticism that can't just be casually dismissed, especially when one of the individuals has no voice and the other has no legal recourse
I've read the relevant books regarding the god person that this guy is referencing. I can find no evidence at all in any of them that would suggest that, that god has any negative feelings about the killing of babies (or adults for that matter)
Opens with "I think we need to have an opposing force..." Of course you do. If you don't have some nebulous "they" to point fingers at, your donations go WAAAAAY down.
The Bible doesn't specifically mention what we would consider to be abortion, but it gets close. Numbers 5:12-22 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure-or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure- 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah[c] of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing. 16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the Lord. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”- 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse-“may the Lord cause you to become a curse[d] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.” While it's not phrased or framed as an abortion, since that is a medical procedure and this obviously is not, the correlation suggests a strong acceptance of abortions in specific circumstances specifically when an affair results in a pregnancy.
If god would do his job there would be no miscarriages (about 30%!), no complications during pragnancies and no babies born with horrible illnesses. If those people were really pro life they would start by paying all the bills for the birth and all the healthcare of mother and child.

Where in the Bible did Jesus ever condemn abortion?
No where
Not only does no part of the bible condemn abortion but in fact orders it to be carried out by a priest towards a married woman if the husband *suspects* that the woman may have been unfaithful.
It is Numbers 5:11-29.
There is utterly no reason to be anti abortion on the policy level.
@@rightpa incorrect.
@@rightpait is not any one person's responsibly to continue our species of they don't want to. And it's wrong for you to say we should.
@@rightpa why does the woman's health matter less than the developing fetuses health until she is close to death?
It's kind of funny how completely unaware Cole is about how horrible of a person he is.
Oh wow, he just really really likes to change the subject
@@Callimo _What exactly would be the opposition to abortion from a humanitarian perspective?_
Probably along the lines that “foetus/baby goes directly to heaven” is not a valid argument against humanitarian logic, but certainly works against a theological point of view.
“Why are you upset that the baby goes straight to heaven?”
Hell, if we're talking God magick, he can just do the stork thing or cut out the middle man and go with vending machines or wishes
Maybe he could relect on thosr instead of trying to shove his choices on the lives of people ge doesn't know and couldn't take care of.
I have been an atheist pretty much all my life in spite of having a methodist family background. But, one thing's for sure: when I listen to shows like these from the States, I think the narrative, the politics, religious fundamentalism and the way these all intertwine, is so f**ked up over there. Glad I am not in America, I really am!

So if i have a car thats missing 80% of the parts ans i throw out the parts i have did i destroyed a car ?
Come on, "Pastor disagrees with abortion" is literally a part of his job description.
Really?
The proper way is
a) comprehensive sex education, early and often
b) easy and cheap/free access to pregnancy prevention
c) comprehensive support, financially and socially and so on for children and parents. It takes a village … there are no villages of that type and certainly that pastor is not helping to make a village like that.
What that pastor is doing is increasing the number of abortions - or “at best” cause harm and misery and needless suffering. And denying “children” to go straight to heaven.

It’s almost like abortion is a choice women make because of socioeconomic pressures. The same people that oppose abolition are supportive of policies that aggravate those socioeconomic pressures. If they actually believe that abortion is murder, they would be working to stop coercing women into feeling trapped into getting abortions.
What is it with these people that have no concept of others?
Pastor Cole to men: "WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!!"
Pastor Cole to women:" Grrrrrr! Grrrrrr! WOOF!"
Also while he infantalizes black women, that they are too emotional and delicate to be reasoned with.

the bible never mentions abortion and values the mother's life over the fetus
The Bible doesn't specifically mention what we would consider to be abortion, but it gets close.
Numbers 5:12-22
12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure-or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure- 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest.
22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.”
While it's not phrased or framed as an abortion, since that is a medical procedure and this obviously is not, the correlation suggests a strong acceptance of abortions in specific circumstances specifically when an affair results in a pregnancy.
This guy just needs to go away.
If god would do his job there would be no miscarriages (about 30%!), no complications during pragnancies and no babies born with horrible illnesses. If those people were really pro life they would start by paying all the bills for the birth and all the healthcare of mother and child.
Got worse and worse every time he opened his mouth

Elements attract/repel each other in different ways, and it just happens...
