- Many of you asked about Malaysia’s digital nomad visa, so I summarized the visa requirements and application process for the DE Rantau nomad pass. This allows approved applicants (and their spouse + family) to live, work and go to school in Malaysia for one year! You can even apply to renew your visa for one year. This has been such a popular program since it was launched, it actually came out when we first visited here in October 2022.
We are still shopping around for our more permanent home-base, so we haven’t applied yet, but I hope you find this video helpful. If you’re a digital nomad or full-time traveler, let me know what other countries you’re exploring!
Here's the MDEC website for more info on this digital nomad visa: mdec.my/derantau/foreign

Thank you for your informative videos, you have chosen the right place… Subscribing to your channel.I am a Filipino national working in KSA…and I can say that for Muslims families looking for alternative location for them to put in their children in a modern muslim-friendly university, Malaysia is the place to be :) .. I have a daughter who competed her chemical engineering in USM Penang, one son still there taking up management and one is in University of Malaya in KL. When my children moved to Malaysia for their university after spending many years in Saudi Arabia, they adapted seamlessly. In USM Penang for example, they have very big Jami Masjid inside the campus, halal foods everywhere. Nowhere is perfect but Malaysia is cost-effective alternative financially, spiritually… Mubarak to this vlog….bro.deen
Thank you so much for the sub and for sharing your family’s experience! iA we hope to visit KSA as well 😊
Do they teach in English? At university ?
Thank you for this video. I am thinking about moving to Malaysia, but I also have a special needs child who is autistic. So this was helpful.
Hi, i have a few quick questions:
1- on what type of visa you were staying in Malaysia?
2- did you live at a relative's house or where during your 90 days tourist visa? & Where would you recommend a tourist to stay (safe and economical) during tourism to test the waters before finalizing to settle in to Malaysia?
3- how much it costed you for 90 days tourist visa? Including travel, staying, food etc from A to Z. A rough figure please if you will.
Digital nomad visa is an alternative to mm2h or smm2h. It is for 12 months, extend another 12 months. So total is 2 years. Ichang channel (japanese youtuber) is now on 2nd year digital nomad visa.
Welcome sis, Malaysia is a great place to enjoy Ramadan
Awesome 👌
Thank you for another informative video! I have couple of questions. Since you are traveling with kids - what do you for kids education? Is it home schooling? Second, what is an average monthly cost of living for family of 4 while traveling - how do you budget your travel (airfare, hotel, entertainment, food)?
I'm a teacher by profession, so I privately homeschool and teach them myself using US and Singapore edu standards. We also have a couple of online tutors for them, and traveling the world is such an education in itself alhamdulillah.
iA I'll post a cost of living type video soon! Thank you!
Assalamalaikum wrwb Saira. Can I reach out to you for additional details ?
Jazakumullah this is very helpful
Could you link the official website you mentioned the application can be done, I'm planning to do this a UK citizen
Wa iyyakum! Yes here's the official Malaysian website for this visa: mdec.my/derantau/foreign
I've been wondering, As a day trader(forex/stocks), is it possible to apply for the Digital Nomad visa? Thank you in advance🙂
I'm not totally sure, but you can contact MDEC and they'll provide you with an official answer :) mdec.my/contact-us
Hello. I'm surprised to learn that even remote workers can get the digital nomad visa. Is this a new update? All the other sources say that it is only for people who work in the IT field. Will it be more difficult to get accepted if you are a remote worker that is not in IT?
Yes you can apply as a remote worker! However, when I reached out to MDEC, they did say that there’s a slimmer chance of your application being accepted if you’re not somehow related to the tech field. However, you can def still apply
Do we need to show some sort of funds when you said $24000 all together? Or a monthly 2000 dollar income reflecting in bank would do?
I think as long as your work contract shows an income of $24000 per year, you’re good to go!
Can you also do a video on how much it costed you as a family, monthly in KL while u were there. Like food, accommodation, travel cost in area etc.
that would also be helpful.
Thanks ❤
You got it, I’ll post a cost of living vid soon
@@sairathemusafir can’t wait 🫶🏼
So if I'm working remotely can I move to Malaysia with my parents and sister?? What would be the visa requirements for them??
Unfortunately, the digital nomad visa is only for the applicant, applicant's spouse and children. Parents and siblings aren't covered under this visa.
For that you have to apply for MMH2 visa
Is this category of VISA applicable for Forex Traders? If yes please what are the requirements. Thanks
I'm not totally sure, but you can contact MDEC directly at this page: mdec.my/contact-us
Did you find out??
hi. Can i ask, do the application need to have multiple employment contracts or can have 1 contract to apply for the visa?
You can show multiple contracts with different clients, as long as your annual income is the minimum amount per year.
@@sairathemusafir i see. if the application only has 1 contract under 1 company can? and are the application can only work from home or remotely right? Cannot come to office is it?
@@juhaidakamil2146 yes, you can still apply if you have one contract with one client or employer. Yes this is for remote workers only, not if you’re going to the office. Also, please keep in mind that your chances of getting accepted are much higher if you are in a tech/IT related field.
@sairathemusafir thank you for the info ^^
After 2 years visa is it no longer to further extend the visa?
As far as I know you can’t extend it beyond that point. You might be able to re-apply though!
My daughters are medical bills with USA doctors can they apply for nomad visa
I’m sorry, I don’t think I understand your question? Do they have medical bills in the US?
Do your two children go to private school? If so, how much are you spending?
I saw your reply in another person's post. Got the answer!
Great, glad you found the answer! Homeschooling works great for us, for now. We will likely put the kids into international schools once we're no longer living the nomad life.
Do Malaysia requires last 2 years of tax returns for this visa ?
I don't think so! They just want to see your current work contract with your employer or if you're self-employed, your client work contracts.
@@sairathemusafir thanks
Can we open bank account
Yes!
i am assuming here, are your kids not school age ? it wont be as exciting for those who have kids settled in UK schools and go away to test a new country
I know UK schools are SO strict about letting kids go on holiday during the academic year. You can try it out during summer holidays?
Our kids are school age, and since I'm a teacher by profession I actually homeschool them for now. iA one day we plan to put them back in traditional schools once we settle somewhere, but for now this works great for us!
You can do home education in the UK as well but LA / doesn't pay for home education kids that means parents have to pay for tuition/ teaching , materials & extra curriculum activities also parents have to make a report and submit to a local home education officer once a year. 😢
You are going to Dubai
Not today :)
24k $ per month or year?
Per year
I think it is $60K per annum if you are remote worker
