      I bought many speakers that UA-camrs review. These are my favorite of all and Focal607s with more bass and and a little less soundstage. I play around with speakers a lot and always come back to these Jamo c93. They're on my desk (nearfield)

      I get these in a couple of days. Assuming you've had them for at least a month, how do you find them? Biggest concern is how hot an amp will get considering the speaker drops below 4 ohms in spots and that voices aren't too laid back for movies and music. I've only had 1 set of speakers where the soundstage went well outside the speakers and those were Monitor Audio Silver 50s, but the mids were too laid back, particularly noticeable on soundtracks and with Rock.

    very cool! haven't heard much about these. I have the original C93's and have been enjoying them for a couple of years now. i think it's the waveguide on the tweeter. it's pretty special. i have mine in a 2.1 setup and i swear i have surround sound on sometimes. i recall one time on a commercial, there was a doorbell sound. it sounded so real we thought someone was at the door!

      Whenever I say "forward" I usually describe exactly what contributes to that descriptor moments later. This trait is usually (although not always) due to how a product is voiced. Products that purposefully bump up the treble in order to sound more 'lively' will usually retain this characteristic.

    Hi Sean, I think you’re one of the top 3 really professional reviewers on UA-cam, who knows how to describe the sound of a piece of equipment in a well-balanced manner, taking into consideration that different people may prefer different sound signatures. Good job and keep doing what you’re doing. I have one question for you and a suggestion.
    First, the question. I own a very popular speaker model, which was reviewed many many times. Some reviewers think they sound too bright, and others have totally opposite opinion that they are smooth and non-fatiguing. After trying these speakers with five different amps I think they are completely neutral and transparent to whatever equipment you connect to them. If your amp is bright/warm you will get bright/warm sound from the speakers. So when you say the speakers sound “bright” or “warm” how do you know that this sound character comes from the speakers themselves and not from your amp or source?
    And here’s my suggestion. In the past you did a very good guide explaining all the terms reviewers use when they describe the sound of audio gear. Why not provide a link to that guide in your every video review. Those guides deserve much more views, as most people don’t know what “bright” or “airy” mean and don’t even realize that these are not just vague words, but well-defined terms, that are part of an established glossary.
    Cheers

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  4 роки тому +4

      Thanks Dennem. I appreciate the suggestion and may implement it in the near future! Meanwhile, what speakers are you talking about? If I'm familiar with them, then I can tell you straight up with their native performance envelope is like. If not..then I guess won't be able to help. :D As for question:
      The ability to consistently and accurately deduce what a product is all about boils down to a mix of experience and knowledge. Experience comes by gathering tons of reference points. It's not just about hearing lots of gear, it's also about learning how these products perform in a wide variety of rooms. Then there's knowledge.. Learning the basics behind how hifi gear works will help you understand *why* you hear what you hear, and will give you more confidence in your assessment - as the process of connecting the dots will become a lot easier.

    • @audiofun999
      @audiofun999 4 роки тому

      Zero Fidelity I was talking about KEF LS50s. Tried them in different room layouts, varied placement, height, toe-in, with tube and solid state gear and heard them sounding bright, warm and neutral depending on the set up.
      Thank you for the answer, Sean. I also believe that for an audio reviewer having experience with lots of different equipment is a must. Do you think your amp and source are transparent and do not bring their own warmness or brightness into the mix?

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  4 роки тому +1

      @@audiofun999 - Yep. It's easy to experience a kaleidoscope from one product. The KEF LS50, at its core, is a speaker that resides on the forward side of neutral with midrange that takes on a slightly 'hard' characteristic. It's a speaker that produces a punchy, clear, and open sound.
      To answer your other question: My source isn't transparent in an objectively linear way, but it's something that I'm extremely familiar with. Because of that familiarity, I'm able to immediately identify the changes that another component makes whenever its introduced to the system - and can do so reliably. Cheers!

    • @audiofun999
      @audiofun999 4 роки тому

      I think you're spot on with your LS50s observation. I ended up pairing them with a tube amp that uses specific Mullard tubes which shift the speakers' sound to the "warm side of neutral" (love this term :). The midrange is relaxing and very life-like with no hardness, brightness or harshness at all.
      And for the second part: I agree that being very familiar with your own system helps to produce reliable reviews. I definitely think that your reviews are reliable as I listened to some of the gear your reviewed and can confirm your observations. It may not be the case with some other reviewers though. For example if a reviewer listens to a neutral or bright speakers only on their favorite warm-sounding amp, they might come to a wrong conclusion that those speakers sound warm too.

    Hi Sean. Thanks for reviewing the Jamo concert c93 ii. I have the c603s and c607s. I measured the drivers (although different) and they too are just under 5 inches. This is surprising as I find the bass quite impressive. It's a shame you can't bi-amp the c93s like the previous concert series for those that like that option. I hope you broke them in well as my c607s took a long time to break in. Before they broke in, my c603s had better bass than the c607s.

      I have the c607 and 603 as well. I really dislike the "biAmp" ability. I really feel it's a missed opportunity. The tweeter and mid should be 1 and the 2 bass drivers should be the others. The 607 are really damn good speakers that dont get any love while they punch way above the price range. In fact people have no clue as to how amazing they are. My step up will be magnepan 1.7i. Anything less and I would just stay with the 607s

    about the woofer size, same story with my spendor sa-1. spec says 6" measurement is 4.5" from outside edge rubber surround(which is most optimistic method). more useful measurement is cone diameter or effective woofer diameter which includes one rubber surround width.
    its like inches are not real measurement for them, but marketing deceptions they can use. in woofer spec sheet i find accurate sizes in millimeters and how they were taken.

      You mention how the tweeter is decoupled. So we have Kef, Tannoy and Andrew Jones with with a tweeter inside the woofer being violently moved around yet those are highly regarded. Yet another choice but that’s okay. This speaker looks great to me for a small room. That metal phase plug, haha.

    Jamo woofer materials : "These woofers are made from paper sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass, which, according to Jamo, give excellent rigidity and material uniformity. The most distinctive feature of the woofer is its shiny aluminum Metal Centre-Plug which replaces a traditional dust cap and lightens the cone of the woofer."
    I have a pair of the more expensive towers from 10 years ago, (2nd hand). The tweeter is horrible imo, it didn't last long before I removed it and currently I'm trying an xt25 ring radiator. It will need crossover work, but I'm using an EQ to balance it out in the meantime. The woofers and mids seem well damped, nice smooth bass. Is a little boosted below 100Hz since it is more a HT speaker. I might try a wavecor tweeter as it is 8 Ohm (xt25 is 4 Ohm), and it has a similar waveguide.
