I've loved Dale's performance for many years...some of Misha's videos are good too...but Dale is just chill and a real pro...I hope Dale can keep it up for many more years.
Nothing to be surprised about. GR yaris has probably the best precise steering on any car. Point it where you wanna go and it'll take you there. Fantastic motor cars, best hot hatch currently by a mile.
Excellent watch, be interesting to see what you would think of a lap of the manual transmission one too. Auto certainly seems the sensible choice for the rental fleet though. No risk of the money shift! The GR Yaris certainly seems to have become one of the darling cars of the trackday scene here in the uk. Hope you are going to do some video's on your suspension work for it. Would be really interesting to watch. PS Love the GT editing effects :)
This year, I rented rant4ring's supra, and in one lap I had a GR Yaris in front, for the whole lap I wasn't able to catch up him, I was shocked how fast that little car was
Great to see they fixed the oil starvation issue thr gen1 had during hard braking, lowest I saw was 2.3 bar on a really hard brake and only for a split second, then back to 3 and on the acceleration back to 4bar. Hopefully the other gremlins the gen1 had are gone too
To be fair, there's the very limited Yaris GRMN which is the precursor to the GR Yaris. Still FWD but with a Supercharged 4-cylinder producing around 205hp (so more like a Fiesta ST competitor).
Great video, thanks. I can see the auto box works well with the paddles but it would have been interesting to see it in auto mode, which is mostly how it will get used on the roads. Other reviewers say that the auto changes are a bit slow.
14:13 is the temperature of the gearbox fluid from the automatic gearbox. The rear diff oil has no temperature sensor and the ITCC clutch for the AWD disconnnction is a dry system but has a temperature sensor which can be read via OBD.
@ because the automatic fluid is also responsible for the shifting etc. manual fluid is just to reduce wear of the gearing. Automatic Version also has an extra water cooler in the front because the gearboxfluid is also cooled with the water of the engine
I’ve always avoided renting a manual for track use, so this is a pretty interesting option 🚗 Shame they build so few it’s difficult to call it a production car when production is so limited.
Perfect car for that sort of weather. There aint much that can go quicker in the wet than one of these. The grip is immense. Even standard these things are fast
4:32 sorry mate, man, I mean man! 😅couldn’t resist. I’d have one of these all day long HOWEVER hear me out, I’d still go for the manual. Why would you want an auto in a gr Yaris when it’s a small 4wd hot hatch ofc the manual is going to be better especially since it has uncoupling and you can “rip that e brake, and power onnnn” which you can’t do in the auto. Then again for people who haven’t got much skill i suppose it’s 10/10. Do I want my M3 manual? No. It’s obviously an auto, but do I want my hot hatch manual? YES.
Trans behaves super well. Seems right on par with the zf8. Didn't Aisin also do the first 8 speed auto originally fitted to the ISF? Those aren't quite as punchy as the zf but they seem to hold up really well in the durability department. Autos have come such a long way. Not a fan of the yaris look but it's still a proper cool car with engineering budgets going where it matters instead of the usual plethora of useless gadgets. Cheers.
Yep, I've been driving the small and big ZF8 for ages now, and on track at least, it feels equal to that. On the road people are complaining that it's a little lazy, but if I'm going fast, I use paddles, so I never noticed.
@@BTGDale That's the classic trackday "loads of people have just seen me spin/mess up, so I'll nail it when I get going to show them how good I am!" ... Only to spin again 😆
Man hey they already test manual vs automatic and automatic much far far away better faster on track or drag race same way i30n beat vs manual always automatic much better smooth faster
This is how the GR should always have been. It was never a purists car because of how many driver comfort modes it has built in. Also as stated in the video, over reeving, followed by expensive damage is common in the GR. Now it is the way it should have been from the start. Great video, enjoyable to watch and has turned a GR hater into somebody nodding their head in appreciation.
It has hardly any driver comfort modes , I own a mk1 and being a homologation rally car it is about as raw as you can get, it rattles as its panels are as thin as a cigarette papers to keep weight down ,the gear change is clunky when your sat in traffic ,the radio and speakers are terrible ,visibility is quite limited ,there's hardly any room in the boot or back seats , exactly how you want a rally car to be ,reminds me of my escort rs cosworth 😊, plus I rag the living daylights out of mine and had no issues with the engine what so ever and even if I did my 2021 model comes with a 10 year warranty if I keep having it serviced with toyota for the following 5 years after the 5 year warranty ends , win win ,plus the warranty stands even if you track it , I mean come on what manufacturer does that
Technically it sort of is a lexus. Its a yaris in name only and is built in the place where they built the LFA. If it had a lexus badge everyone would be saying its a bargain
@BTGDale bcs its wet...In dry its boring car with super planted rear and understeery front.People add negative camber to fix it.Would you get auto or manual?

Yeah, the Golf was going really well, had good wet lines and excellent car control when he did go a bit too fast and late
