I'm 73, have owned the bigger machines for years, and just bought a Speed 400 (in red). Great machine. Plenty quick, great handling, comfortable ride, and very lightweight. It reminds me a lot of one of the second motorcycle I ever owned, which was a Honda 305 Superhawk. And I have really fond memories of that bike, which was only one size down from the biggest bike Honda sold at the time. There really is something to be said for bikes that are "just enough, but not too much". For commuting or just joy riding on country roads, it's hard to beat this Triumph.

I just bought myself a Triumph Speed 400 in black. Mine is being delivered in 2 weeks. It's my first bike since I passed my A2 test here in the UK and my first ever motorbike full stop.
I have been looking around and tested a number of machines since passing, including Royal Enfields 350 collection and thr Himaleyan.
However, the moment I pulled away from the dealer with this bike, I knew I was buying it. Similar to the Royal Enfields, it instils confidence. I never felt unsafe even when I opened the throttle a little. It felt stable and planted to the tarmac. Its power delivery is smooth and amazing.
Truly, what sold the triumph compared to the Royal Enfields was that extra bit of power. As a beginner rider, I found the enfields made me feel exposed, especially in faster moving traffic. I knew on the triumph. I have the power there to escape any dodgy situations.
    Amazing machine

Great review!! Rembo is very enthusiastic about this bike and with good reason. Had my 2024 Speed 400 delivered less than 2 weeks ago and I now have 200 miles on it. Am really loving the bike. Only two reviews mentioned gearing being a little short, but so far I am satisfied with gearing exactly as it is. I have a number of other bikes and I like them all so I could not bring myself to trade....... just bought one more. This is my 3rd Triumph. Total price OTD was $6154. FYI.....

What an excellent review ! As a UK resident (69 years young) I've ridden Bonnevilles , Norton Dominator etc, but I've been thinking about a Royal Enfield 350; all the comparative reviews in UK fail to mention whether that bike is capable of achieving/maintaining 70 mph-that's all I want- I just don't like huge lorry hauliers on my back bumper at 65 !Unless I'm mistaken you saw 95 mph on the gauge; Keep it up-and thanks.

Thanks for the review Rembo! Triumph here charges over $1,300 (plus tax & license but those are on all bikes) to build the bike...about double the amount for Kawi, Yam, Hon, Suzi, but similar to KTM/Husq. The premium upcharge, and less than enthusiastic sales people here will probably keep me from considering this bike, but I'm glad that 500 cc and below bikes seem to be getting more attention from manufactures again.

Test rode the Speed400 two weeks ago and now have one on order as a 2nd bike for running around on and some commuting during the summer months especially, I can’t wait for it to arrive within the next two weeks… keep up the good work and regards from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I grew up in the 70's when British bikes were on their way out. The British manufacturers sat on their hands with their 1930's technology engines for too long while Japan mowed them flat (cars and bikes) with OHC engines and reliable electronics at affordable prices. I'm glad to see Triumph using DOHC 4-valve engines. The bike is real good looking. For me the gold forks graphically don't fit and I'm not a fan of black wheels, they look heavy and unfinished. Still, a pretty machine.
I had a herniated disk about 18 years ago and it was incredibly painful, I can relate. No long lasting effects and I'm still able to ride (daily to work and back).

I'm halfway through break-in on mine. I've been riding since 1961, so... And I have a 27-ish inch inseam.
I bought it for those days when I just don't want to dig out 600+ pounds of Tiger Explorer 1200 for an afternoon's ride, and for that it's an absolute delight. Much better than I expected and even better than I had hoped.
I have installed a Dart flyscreen from the UK. Not enough wind protection to matter, but it does clean up the airflow nicely.
Plusses: a silly amount of power (surprised the hell out of me) and 60MPG. Very nimble and an absolute blast pottering down backroads in the 45-50 MPH range.
Minuses: The seat SUCKS. It's a 100 mile seat. I could probably do a tank at one sitting, but I wouldn't be happy. But then, I didn't buy it for distance riding - I have other bikes for that. The foot pegs are small and narrow - but I expect the aftermarket to step up - probably SW-Motech will take the lead.
Out the door cost (northern Virginia) was about $6,500. Quite happy overall and I have the faster red color. 😁

It has everything I need to know. I have a bike that's 50kg heavier that this beauty and so I find that lugging it around in a small garage stops me riding it as much as I would like to. I've been looking for something smaller and lighter with enough grunt to enjoy zooming around. I hope you enjoyed the MotoGP. The sprint was pretty good. But Sunday's race was amazing! Stop watching it at your peril!! It was sad that Marquez fell. And my countryman, Brad Binder, lost his front and rear wings when Marquez touched him. So, he fell from 2nd on the log to 6th. Thank you for first mentioning the maintenance interval (10,000 miles). So many reviews and that never happens. I’m the same height and inseam as you but have a few more pounds around the gut than you so you mentioning flat footing and seat comfort is a big plus for me. As far as the scrambler400x and this speed goes, I would say best to be honest with yourself about how much light off road your really going to do, higher seat, bigger front wheel, and if that’s worth the extra $600.00? From other reviews the speed is more road worthy and nimble than the Scrambler. Here’s another thing that leads me towards waiting for the used market. Yes the speed is $4995. but the dealers also on prep, shipping, , and all their stuff and a $5000. bike is now $7000. I understand tax and all but on a low priced bike getting a 20% mark-up is hard to swallow. Especially when you ride it off the curb and it depreciates instantly. This applies to other brands in this price range. It really is prohibitive and makes me want to wait for one to come up used.

Giggling about your pronunciation of aluminium! It should actually be pronounced the American way.... which is rare for us Brits to admit.😮 Anyway, a good review. Done 650 miles now on my Speed. It's superb and lovely to ride on British A and B roads mainly. Note - you don't need to depress the clutch to start up. I get 81 mpg average. That's imperial gallons. Only bad points; front mudguard- fender too short, so the radiator and tank get blathered in shite... Rear mudguard- fender... useless! You get crap thrown over the seat, jacket and helmet! So really needs an aftermarket mudguard. The 400 has a delicious sound, especially on the overun. Reckon I'll do loads of miles on mine.

I am 6 ft tall and this bike felt like the first 125cc Bajaj Discover bike I had with a round head lamp. Puny! The Scrambler feels bigger though. For sure it's a great looking bike, and everything on it looks (and probably feels) premium.
HOWEVER... what "kills" it for me is the price of all the addons and accessories. I'm in the EU and I've used the online configurator to add their tank pads, crashbar, comfort seat and the rack for a topcase (without the actual topcase). With all these stuff, the final price was 6750 EUROS, WITHOUT including VAT, which in most EU countries is around 20%.
Factoring VAT and converting to USD, the price comes down to a whooping 8630 dollars, which to me is INSANE. For this price, I can accessorize the F out of a Royal Enfield Himalayan450, or just get the VTwin Ducati Scrambler 400 and save about 1k euros.
