I'm 73, have owned the bigger machines for years, and just bought a Speed 400 (in red). Great machine. Plenty quick, great handling, comfortable ride, and very lightweight. It reminds me a lot of one of the second motorcycle I ever owned, which was a Honda 305 Superhawk. And I have really fond memories of that bike, which was only one size down from the biggest bike Honda sold at the time. There really is something to be said for bikes that are "just enough, but not too much". For commuting or just joy riding on country roads, it's hard to beat this Triumph.
Great review!! Rembo is very enthusiastic about this bike and with good reason. Had my 2024 Speed 400 delivered less than 2 weeks ago and I now have 200 miles on it. Am really loving the bike. I just bought myself a Triumph Speed 400 in black. Mine is being delivered in 2 weeks. It's my first bike since I passed my A2 test here in the UK and my first ever motorbike full stop. I have been looking around and tested a number of machines since passing, including Royal Enfields 350 collection and thr Himaleyan. However, the moment I pulled away from the dealer with this bike, I knew I was buying it. Similar to the Royal Enfields, it instils confidence. I never felt unsafe even when I opened the throttle a little. It felt stable and planted to the tarmac. Its power delivery is smooth and amazing. Truly, what sold the triumph compared to the Royal Enfields was that extra bit of power. As a beginner rider, I found the enfields made me feel exposed, especially in faster moving traffic. I knew on the triumph. I have the power there to escape any dodgy situations. Amazing machine

My dealer, Moto Forza in Escondido CA, just got his first two Speeds in today. I went in not expecting they would be available, but they were, and bought the blue one for delivery in a couple of days. Who is this bike for? It’s definitely for short older riders who want to graduate to a smaller, lighter ride. I’ll likely do some touring on it, along with local rides. It’s my 80th early birthday present to myself. 👍
Great video Rembo, been watching your videos on and off for about 2 1/2 years since I started thinking of buying a Multistrada V4S, I’ve had that bike just over 2 years and I absolutely love it, I’ve just done 1000 miles on it in 2 days in France. What an excellent review ! As a UK resident (69 years young) I've ridden Bonnevilles , Norton Dominator etc, but I've been thinking about a Royal Enfield 350; all the comparative reviews in UK fail to mention whether that bike is capable of achieving/maintaining 70 mph-that's all I want- I just don't like huge lorry hauliers on my back bumper at 65 !Unless I'm mistaken you saw 95 mph on the gauge; Keep it up-and thanks.
I'm halfway through break-in on mine. I've been riding since 1961, so... And I have a 27-ish inch inseam. Much better than I expected and even better than I had hoped. I have installed a Dart flyscreen from the UK. Not enough wind protection to matter, but it does clean up the airflow nicely. Plusses: a silly amount of power (surprised the hell out of me) and 60MPG. Very nimble and an absolute blast pottering down backroads in the 45-50 MPH range. Minuses: The seat SUCKS. It's a 100 mile seat. I could probably do a tank at one sitting, but I wouldn't be happy. But then, I didn't buy it for distance riding - I have other bikes for that. The foot pegs are small and narrow - but I expect the aftermarket to step up - probably SW-Motech will take the lead. Out the door cost (northern Virginia) was about $6,500. Quite happy overall and I have the faster red color. 😁

Hi Rembo, just discovered your channel, looking for reviews of the Triumph Speed 400…great review…I’m in the UK, and went to the ABR Festival ( Google that, fantastic time for 15,000 bikers), couple weeks back, sat on this bike but didn’t get to ride it….felt great seating position as you said….anyway, you have a new subscriber, and a big ole like of your vid…Cheers mate!
Thanks for the great review!! It has everything I need to know. I have a bike that's 50kg heavier that this beauty and so I find that lugging it around in a small garage stops me riding it as much as I would like to. I've been looking for something smaller and lighter with enough grunt to enjoy zooming around. I hope you enjoyed the MotoGP. The sprint was pretty good. But Sunday's race was amazing! Stop watching it at your peril!! It was sad that Marquez fell. And my countryman, Brad Binder, lost his front and rear wings when Marquez touched him. So, he fell from 2nd on the log to 6th. But it was nice to see Maverick do so well for a change on the Aprilia. I've always thought that he's a great rider.
Sold my $37,000 Tri-Glide last fall. Sold my Slingshot a couple weeks ago. NOW I'm ready to get back to two wheel fun. I want a blue Speed 400. It seems like a good all around bike. I live in SE Ohio where we have some great two lane roads like in the Hocking Hills area. The Speed 400 will be a great ride for my area. But it can also cuise at 70 mph so I can ride the divded highways to get where I want to go. I was looking at a Speed Twin 900 but now I ask myself, why spend twice as much on the 900 when the Speed 400 will do exactly what I want for half the price? Thanks for the review. Ride safely and enjoy every journey.
Hey @genegoodwin8925, sounds like you're making an awesome choice! The Speed 400 is a great all-around bike, especially for those scenic roads in SE Ohio. The Hocking Hills area is perfect for enjoying the twisties, and the Speed 400 will definitely hold its own. Plus, with its ability to cruise at 70 mph, it’s versatile enough for those longer highway stretches. The Speed Twin 900 is a fantastic bike, but if the Speed 400 does everything you need at half the cost, it’s hard to argue with that logic! It’s all about finding the right bike for your riding style and what makes you feel the most connected to the road. Thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy every mile on your new ride. Ride safe and have fun out there!
I’m 72 and I’m thinking that this may be my end of riding career bike. My Bonneville is getting to hard to move around the garage and I don’t know how easily I could pick it up alone. I was concerned at first about the highway speed of the 400 but numerous bike reviews have convinced me those concerns are no longer an issue. I guess that a trip to the big city may be in order.
I grew up in the 70's when British bikes were on their way out. The British manufacturers sat on their hands with their 1930's technology engines for too long while Japan mowed them flat (cars and bikes) with OHC engines and reliable electronics at affordable prices. I'm glad to see Triumph using DOHC 4-valve engines. The bike is real good looking. For me the gold forks graphically don't fit and I'm not a fan of black wheels, they look heavy and unfinished. Still, a pretty machine. I had a herniated disk about 18 years ago and it was incredibly painful, I can relate. No long lasting effects and I'm still able to ride (daily to work and back).
The high beam was on all the test ride(blue light on the dash)also the bike had done less than 600 miles so still being run in ( as the rev counter flashes at 6000rpm)but you did 95mph!
Your review was great fun to watch, thank you! I’m waiting for my new triumph speed 400 with a metisse lowering kit to be installed and I hope to pick it up on or before October 16th!! The kit lowers it 1.5 inches and I have also shaved the seat a bit. I am 5’2” 125 lbs so smaller is better for me!🤷♀️ I will try to send a picture once I get the bike home!👍
Bought one to run around town on. Love it. We also have a Multistrada and MG Mandello, but I use the Triumph to run around town. Also, this bike does have traction control as part of its electronic safety items
This is a fantastic video on the Speed 400. I think they should have kept the name 'Street', but that's a minor detail. But you Sir, did a good job here. Thanks for posting/sharing. Cheers!
Good review I'm really interested in this bike. I don't need a big heavy bike anymore. Also I can't believe there's no traffic in pompano. 30 years ago when I lived in Broward county you could even move.
Beautiful bike, my last trumpet was a 70 Bonnie with the 4speed right side. Brakes? Yeah, but plan ahead... Good memories, this one may pull my retired butt back on the road. It looks too good not to check out. Thanks for the video.
This was at the top of my list, I have a new royal Enfield meteor 350, no good on freeways, highways, but I'm between speed 400 or Kawasaki eliminator 450
Great video, thanks. I was quoted 7k OTD ...a far cry from 5k. I didn't buy it so I don't know if they were done jacking the price. Great looking bike.
1:05 No no no it's not a $5,000 bike! Why does every person making a video on the Speed 400 lie about this!?!?!?! OTD in DFW Texas it's a $7,000 bike due to the excessive freight and assembly.
Haha, I thought, heck it is struggling to even reach 100 kph then you mention miles 🎉. You mentioned quick shift a couple of times. One reviewer said he used the clutch a few times but mostly didn't and it was great.
This bike came out along side the scrambler and I think they are relatively the same bike but the scrambler has a little bit more accuracy’s on it gives you a little extra
Rumor has it that the new model coming out has a 10 CM (2.5 inch) higher seat. It's going from 790-800 CM. Shorter riders might want to buy this model year.
At Martin Moto in Boyertown , PA. See my reply #11 above. This is my 4th MC purchase at MM & they always treat me right. Try shopping around..... Good luck!!!
Amazing review, but just a note, to ride it here in india with its traffic, road conditions with its price point its just a great value for money! And the scrambler 400x is even better, just not as nimble as speed! Bajaj did a great job, and triumph ofcourse!
That is not the case. If you look at the video, I did attempt to start it without the clutch pulled in, and it would not work. At least here in the United States it still won’t work.
I think I have found my bike. I was torn between a MT03 and CB300R and wasn't completely happy with either. This seems to check all the boxes. I have no interest in going fast I just want to tool around. I guess I'll start putting a little cash back so that I can go in and get her cash.
A great little bike from Triumph & Bajaj India. Will definitely sell very well & give Royal Enfield a run for its money. 2 totally visually different bikes. But, along similar lines compared to the Hunter, not the Classic. Hey Rembo, do you have a CFMoto dealer in your area? I hope you get a chance to test ride some of them? The 800 & 450 class of bikes.
Thank you for first mentioning the maintenance interval (10,000 miles). So many reviews and that never happens. I’m the same height and inseam as you but have a few more pounds around the gut than you so you mentioning flat footing and seat comfort is a big plus for me. As far as the scrambler400x and this speed goes, I would say best to be honest with yourself about how much light off road your really going to do, higher seat, bigger front wheel, and if that’s worth the extra $600.00? From other reviews the speed is more road worthy and nimble than the Scrambler. Here’s another thing that leads me towards waiting for the used market. Yes the speed is $4995. but the dealers also on prep, shipping, , and all their stuff and a $5000. bike is now $7000. I understand tax and all but on a low priced bike getting a 20% mark-up is hard to swallow. Especially when you ride it off the curb and it depreciates instantly. This applies to other brands in this price range. It really is prohibitive and makes me want to wait for one to come up used.
Edward Turner would definitely approve of this ground breaking motorcycle. At almost 70 years of age in poor health I might consider trading in my Harley-Davidson XL1200CX as 571 pounds is getting to be heavy for me. I had to have spinal neck surgery courtesy of a texting driver and sustained permanent nerve damage. After 53 years of riding I refuse to give up riding and I'm afraid of trikes. I guess you suspect I'm a long time Triumph rider by my opening comment. Yes my first 30 years of riding has been only British bikes. .y 2 favorite bikes over my life of riding was my 76' T140V Bonneville of 19 years and my 2001 Honda CBR929RR Erion Racing Edition of 7 years, had to sell it to fight my ex-wife.
Looked into one yesterday and the $4,995 price goes up to almost 7k when they get done adding the fees tax and tag to it here in Ga. Great looking bike but a bit pricey in the end.
Giggling about your pronunciation of aluminium! It should actually be pronounced the American way.... which is rare for us Brits to admit.😮 Anyway, a good review. Done 650 miles now on my Speed. It's superb and lovely to ride on British A and B roads mainly. Note - you don't need to depress the clutch to start up. I get 81 mpg average. That's imperial gallons. Only bad points; front mudguard- fender too short, so the radiator and tank get blathered in shite... Rear mudguard- fender... useless! You get crap thrown over the seat, jacket and helmet! So really needs an aftermarket mudguard. The 400 has a delicious sound, especially on the overun. Reckon I'll do loads of miles on mine.
My big beef with this bike is it has an 85 (gps) mph top speed pegging the limiter in 6th. Triumph speedos tend to be much more optimistic than most (even Ducati)
13:15 its so strange to me how everyone is occupying the right lanes. Don't you rather wanna be on the right so you dont have to go across when you take the exit?
😂 The other day I was just imagining with you sitting on this bike how small it might appear. And bam you have this video. I am 6 ft tall and this bike felt like the first 125cc Bajaj Discover bike I had with a round head lamp. Puny! The Scrambler feels bigger though. You owning a KTM 390, it should be fun comparing both bikes as both come out from the same assembly line from here in Pune.
Well, I'm 6' tall and salesman described my look on the Speed 400: "like a monkey on a banana". But I have quite short legs and a posture of a gorilla, so it might look too small for me. I had the ideal position on Tridend 660 (due too my short legs Scrambler 400X was not too comfortable).
What are your thoughts on this motorcycle?

It’s good for multi-day trips as well not just day rides.
Day tripper..yeah !
Welcome aboard! I appreciate your words of kindness
It's got looks I like ..good job .
Thanks for letting us know. It is a good looking motorcycle.
The 400 is a great fit for any rider. I still have to review the 400 scrambler yet. I was bummed about Marquez
@@RemboUSMC Thanks
Japan subsidised the destruction of the British bike industry, so any Brit riding a jap bikes is a traitor to the core and should be spat upon
Hey Craig, thank you for sharing that information. I hope that you’re back stays in a state of happiness.
Hey Rembo! I believe they call that blue color trim Caspian Blue. Thanks for sharing this review. It’s a great package!
Thanks for the info!
The high beam was on all the test ride(blue light on the dash)also the bike had done less than 600 miles so still being run in ( as the rev counter flashes at 6000rpm)but you did 95mph!
I always ride during the day with my highbeams on for my safety. Yes, 95mph. Isn't that great!
Same here...high beams during the day and as needed at night.
Glad it was helpful!
Bought one to run around town on. Love it. We also have a Multistrada and MG Mandello, but I use the Triumph to run around town. Also, this bike does have traction control as part of its electronic safety items
Thanks for sharing!
Great review probably made my mind up on my next bike
Ah...my old office park in Pompano....
Good review. 👍
I've liked and subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
I wish the analog gauge was the Tachometer with the speedo digital.
I’ve never watched revs ever. Always feel when to change gear
This is a fantastic video on the Speed 400. I think they should have kept the name 'Street', but that's a minor detail. But you Sir, did a good job here. Thanks for posting/sharing. Cheers!
Thanks Andrew, I appreciate it.
Good work Bajaj and Triumph. Great value for money. Good Mileage. Great fit and finish. Looking forward to buy the 400x scrambler.
Good choice
Good review!
Glad you enjoyed it
Good review I'm really interested in this bike. I don't need a big heavy bike anymore. Also I can't believe there's no traffic in pompano. 30 years ago when I lived in Broward county you could even move.
Because it’s off-season
Interesting bike, currently riding a 2012 Bonneville SE. I’m 60 and I’ve been licensed and riding since I was 14, I prefer the smaller bikes.
Beautiful bike, my last trumpet was a 70 Bonnie with the 4speed right side. Brakes? Yeah, but plan ahead... Good memories, this one may pull my retired butt back on the road. It looks too good not to check out. Thanks for the video.
Subscribed. Thank you 🙏🏻
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for providing the international measures as well for the non-american folks! I really appreciate that.
Any time!
This bike is incredible.
I have one with same color in Sorocaba City - Brazil . Great Motorcycle , high perfomance
That is a bit pricey for out the door.
@@RemboUSMC Sure seems like it.
Je suis français je trouve ta video test tres bien .simole honnête efficace ✌️👍
I love my "Scrambler"..fun bike for around the city and occasional short trips.
Great review. I was not considering a 400cc bike but I am now. Especially when it is such a good looking bike that does look budget at all. Thanks
Good choice!
I totally agree! Great size, performance and style. Looking forward to having one!
Enjoy when you get it.
Mine (Red) is arriving any day now, thank you for the review.
Triumph does make an awesome red
This bike came out along side the scrambler and I think they are relatively the same bike but the scrambler has a little bit more accuracy’s on it gives you a little extra
Rumor has it that the new model coming out has a 10 CM (2.5 inch) higher seat. It's going from 790-800 CM. Shorter riders might want to buy this model year.
How does it compare to the Svartpilen 401 ? ...pros vs cons?
I have absolutely no idea as of right now.
At Martin Moto in Boyertown , PA. See my reply #11 above. This is my 4th MC purchase at MM & they always treat me right. Try shopping around..... Good luck!!!
thanks for the review; pricing here in northern CA is non-trivially higher; I'm still leaning towards the '24 Husq 401
Good choice!
Amazing review, but just a note, to ride it here in india with its traffic, road conditions with its price point its just a great value for money! And the scrambler 400x is even better, just not as nimble as speed! Bajaj did a great job, and triumph ofcourse!
Yes, true
Sold good job 🏍️ from fellow Floridian
Thanks 👍
I think I've seen or read somewhere that the new 400 Triumph actually DONT need the clutch pulled in on startup.
That is not the case. If you look at the video, I did attempt to start it without the clutch pulled in, and it would not work. At least here in the United States it still won’t work.
@@RemboUSMC My bad. I think I must have either dreamt or hallucinated that one! Whatever, great video as always.
Deffo don't need to pull the clutch in on these bikes to start them. Not in UK anyway
ua-cam.com/video/JOnAeoGSzFY/v-deo.htmlsi=InQmstSTID-1HboT
@@SJG1957 In EU clutch is not needed ... :)
@@HumphreyvanLee Strange one. I don't see the point in making US Triumphs needing the clutch engagement to start up yet other markets, not so.
An honest review. I own it
But more fun to watch than a speedo.
Also with they would have added some attachment points on the swingarm for stand spools.
멋진바이크... 한국에도 빨리 판매되길...
Hello, excellent video, do you have the service manual for the scrambler 400x?
No, sorry
I bought one in CASPIAN BLUE / STORM GREY, price here 5 895,00 €.
I will see where the nearest CF Moto dealer is located and see if I can test ride.
@@RemboUSMC good man! Just to get perspective on an other foreign made products. Thanks 🫡
CF Moto stands for crap factory
Great review and looks like a great bike but why on earth is this bike £5195 in the UK. Very naughty Triumph!
I think I see place where you can put regular mirrors ?
Yes.
Excellent thoughts. Thank you for posting. I agree, the extra $600 for the Scrambler is just not worth it.
Caspian Blue
Change oil every 3K or every time you put in winter storage if you live where she's cold af .
Agree
I feel your pain , literally, I have two ruptured discs in my back and two in my neck. I hope that you get better soon.
I hear you, 5 in the back and 2 in the neck myself. Ordered a black Speed 400 early February, June delivery here in Phuket Thailand (hopefully)
How would you compare it to the Honda Rebel 300? Thanks!
As a former Honda, rebel 300 owner, I can tell you that it is completely night and day. The triumph is a clear superior motorcycle.
@@RemboUSMC thank you, i appreciate the response. It’s also better looking in my taste
Caspian Blue/ Storm grey.
That’s what I was afraid of
Ouch, the add-ons really kill it.
That's why they're called stealerships.
The add-on fees should be told up front.
How were the vibrations on the freeway?
Actually not bad at all and I was really pushing it as you can tell. I would just never sustain a speed like that for everyday riding.
Wow
Blue tank ?
Didn't know they offer blue, looks better than red
I love the blue color
Hey, thank you for sharing that information. Really appreciate it. Have yourself a great day Colin.
Ducati sold 50,000 total motorcycles this year..Triumph sold 50,000 of this 400.
Big numbers
@@mrabrasive51 that’s crazy!
It’s expensive in Vietnam. This TS400 is tagged for $US 6,800 not including about 10% taxes.
Interesting. Import tax too?
@@RemboUSMC I think it’s something to do with import tax and monopoly pricing.
Thailand...157,900 Baht. $4,700 at current exchange rate. When I purchased mine, it was about $4,300 with the exchange rate.
7k OTD in MI.
Looks like a fun bike
😂 The other day I was just imagining with you sitting on this bike how small it might appear. And bam you have this video. I am 6 ft tall and this bike felt like the first 125cc Bajaj Discover bike I had with a round head lamp. Puny! The Scrambler feels bigger though. You owning a KTM 390, it should be fun comparing both bikes as both come out from the same assembly line from here in Pune.
I really enjoyed riding the Speed 400.
For a 6’1” guy (that’s 1.86m for educated people) is it comfortable? Is there enough room for a relaxed seating position ?
I think it’s comfortable, but I can only answer at my height of 5’11”
Well, I'm 6' tall and salesman described my look on the Speed 400: "like a monkey on a banana". But I have quite short legs and a posture of a gorilla, so it might look too small for me. I had the ideal position on Tridend 660 (due too my short legs Scrambler 400X was not too comfortable).
How's the vibration at cruising speeds?
I thought it was rather smooth for a single cylinder, small bike that is expected to have vibration because of its size.
This was at the top of my list till Kawasaki revamped the ninja 400 making it a 451 stroker and there went that
Just wait for the aprilia 457. The deliveries just began in India exports will also start soon
@@nandadityaswami7452wont waste my money on aprillia
