Thank you for the detailed overview of this really significant update, and showing how to put it into a flight scenario!! Please keep up the great videos, much appreciated! All the best!
Using VS to help control your climb with manual throttle isn't bad if you've got an upcoming altitude restriction especially at high climb performance.....but IMO, not the best choice if you're in a high workload environment. Manage Vspeed AND throttle.....or just set FLC to your restriction so you can manage throttle only as you arrive to altitude. Both work. What I have been taught by other pilots is FLC for climbs (stall protection, less workload) and VSpeed for descents (descent planning control and non-pressurized aircraft descent rate). If it's anything like the S550, 180 knots for the climb is ideal, and would offer plenty of room for overshoot on throttle control. (ref: V1-Simulations)
Wow this is amazing . I havent flown a single jet since release because I havent got my bravo throttle delivered yet . I wanted to have decent equipment before starting with jets and give mods like this time to develop . Brilliant work .
Excellent job I’m going to get this mod. One tiny suggestion from an IFR pilot would be to adjust your Heading bug on runway headings on Take off and Approach as well as every phase of flight for radar vectors or loss of Autopilot and unanticipated corse deviations from ATC. But excellent job!
Yes that is one thing you do during training it helps you fly the heading. You won’t be using auto pilot during training so the helps keep you tracking on course during the Six Pack Scan. Especially during holds and LOC ILS approach and if you have to add wind correction.
I think I'm gunna stick with the Aerolite 103 thank you! : ) Thanks for your hard work, very concise and easy to understand. nice bump tunes too! So you a big fan of Jazz?

Thanks for this video! I am a complete novice but that this was incredibly useful and informative. I've replicated this flight and then it's been an invaluable reference and template when I put together a couple of other flight plans.
I'm not a dev but I know they said they hope to carry it over to the Garmin planes in the next month or two. It should be pretty exciting when they get it all sorted out.

This one looks just as good.netjets livery if you have the chance to repaint please, no rush! Loving your update and paints. Thats all I've been flying now. Haven't touched the a 320 or longitude since!!
The CJ4 VNAV system really only captures AT or BELOW constraints on departures. It won’t climb on its own like other types of VNAV systems so you need a way to tell it to climb. I chose a low VS initially because the plane was going to level off pretty quickly at 5,000ft and VS gives you a bit more control over the pitch of the plane when it captures the constraint. You don’t want it to capture a 5,000ft constraint while you’re at climb thrust doing 5,000 fpm ;) You could also have done it in FLC, it’s really just a matter of personal preference.
@@grillodon Nah, I was just trying to say that I wanted to capture 5000ft at a shallow angle so the transition wasn't so abrupt. So I set a low VS and managed the throttle so the plane entered the 5,000ft constraint at 5° nose up instead of 15°. VS works the same as everything else. The plane will kick you out of VS when you capture an altitude.
Very helpful video thanks! To be honest, still confused about the interaction between LNAV and VNAV. At one point it looked like VNAV was managing the descent but on the PFD, LNAV was indicated.... You had LNAV preselected on the ground with VS and the target TOC altitude. Once climbing you engaged VNAV I think - once you did that is it "armed" until explicitly disabled or does it disengage when it reaches a constraint? Sorry - dumb questions but it's a lot to process :-) I will re-watch and do some test flights when the mod is updated for latest patch. Thanks again.
Thanks! LNAV only controls lateral navigation i.e. tracks the flight plan route. VNAV only controls the vertical navigation which would be the altitude constraints in the LEGS page. VNAV never disengages unless you actually press the button again. So you're correct, it essentially remains armed (after departure) until it sees an altitude constraint in the LEGS page at which point it begins to navigate it's own path down to the last altitude in the flight plan which is almost always 50ft above the runway threshold.
@@windhover2021 great thank you. So.... How do I handle the following: I enter a plan with departure and arrival constraints, say 5000 on departure and cruise set on alt select to 42k. I take off and begin climbing with vs until 5k. All clear I think. On arrival at 5k wp, atc clear me to 7k which is not a set constraint. It seems I have 2 choices, change alt select or add a constraint for 7k to the current leg. What would you do?
mikebakkeyt If it’s ATC assigned altitudes I would just use the preselector. In real life they would tell you what altitude to expect while getting your clearance and you would just set the altitude preselector to that. I just set it to cruise because I don’t use any ATC so I climb however I want.
Video made me realise how I was doing things wrong. Very helpful, thanks. Possible bugs: I have trouble with LNAV consistently overshooting the turns when the turn is >90 degrees (flying the other side of the planet to the US), and also heading oscillates between two headings when flying a route with waypoints several hundred miles apart, with the two headings bounced between having a difference of around 2 degrees. A couple of things to maybe put on the list of bits to address: I fly hPa when over the European continent but hPa isn't sticky, so I have to select hPa each time I start up. The backup artificial horizon stays in IN setting even if the main FMC is set to hPa and the Imperial/Metric is set to Metric. I haven't found how to get the backup AH to be in hPa. When in hPa mode, the QNH adjustment has three/sometimes four notches where the same QNH is displayed but the resulting altitude varies by a bit depending on which end of the "slack" one sets the QNH. Apart from adding a decimal part of the QNH so one can get it close to the actual I can't think of a way around this, but thought I'd mention it in case you have any thoughts. Love the improvements your mod makes! Apologies if this isn't the place to post observations, I couldn't be sure of where I should be posting them. Thanks for the really amazing hard work!
Sorry about the misuse of acronyms. I meant the PFD when I was talking about selecting hPa for QNH. I'm sure you realised what I meant. At least it was marginally a bit better than referring to the clicky thing above the pilot's television lol. Just gone through the video again making notes as a guide. I was definitely doing things a bit wrong. I'll see if doing things as expected helps :) Have a great and safe Christmas break. All the best.
LNAV is engaged whenever you want the plane to follow an FMS route. I arm it on the ground because I usually want to follow the flight plan immediately after takeoff. VNAV is usually only used for descents but can be engaged at pretty much any point before TOD. As long as you don't have an AT or BELOW constraint on your departure you can theoretically just engage VNAV before takeoff and it won't do anything until TOD.
I noticed some flickering on the top left area of the window during the first minute. Is that an MSFS glitch, your graphics settings or is it some issue with the mod? This is an amazing mod and I really like your content by the way. Great stuff. You have my sub, but you deserve more.

Yes and no. The in-game flight planner in the main menu will still work like usual but there have been some very rare and hard to track crashes to desktop when using it with the mod. @@windhover2021 I see, the reason I asked I flew a couple of flights with this mod and the asobo flight planner, and near the airport the plane broke course with the gps magenta line. Good thing is that they are all reported to happen at takeoff or right after so you wouldn’t lose much progress and they are pretty uncommon.
@@windhover2021 I see, the reason I asked I flew a couple of flights with this mod and the asobo flight planner, and near the airport the plane broke course with the gps magenta line. That doesn't happen without the mod, so I thought there might be a conflict between the mod and the flight planner, and I'd have to set up a flight in the cockpit. I never got a crash to desktop with the mod.
@@ThatCanadianGuy-e1p I noticed exactly the same behaviour.
Can you switch from cockpit to wingview with one key?
Yeah, I think you can do it with saved views. Which reminds me, I need to figure out how those work.
@@windhover2021 the person who designed the camera in MSFS2020 must be low functioning.
