Problem is is that you can either be creative or functional. The only way to consistently get her abilities is to mute the track and put notes literally everywhere and then crouch spam. Muting the track isnt necessary, but your teammates and your ears will thank you for it.
Don't forget the playable Shawzin (stringed instrument with 3 strings and 3 frets also one "whammy" which is completely optional also with many scales to switch through to make it sound like a different instrument every time). The controls are rather easy. The 1, 2 and 3 keys make the string (not the one from the num pad) and the arrow keys (arrow up excluded) or sometimes N, L and M do the frets. You can either use one fret at a time (or none) or just use a combination of up to all three simultaneously which gives you the opportunitiy to play rather complex pieces. Same goes for the strings. This is how the notes are built. The Shawzin is completely decorative and serves no point combatwise (unlike Octavia) but you can play it wherever you're able to use your emotes (which means literally everywhere). You can either play premade songs like in Guitar Hero or make your own music and automatically transcript it as a text line for others to copy and paste it into their own Sawzin to play it there. If you learned how the transciption works you can actually write one on your own as a simple text and then play it ingame. Basically composing but a whole lotta more cryptic. There's also the option to let the notes being played automatically for a flawless experience (provided the song you put on is well composed and not bullcrap from someone who thinks he's the new Mozart). If you have Octavia in your inventory and play the Shawzin with her you can also use her percussion ability (Mallet) to play alongside your guitar solo. I have no idea as to why I just explained the Shawzin this detailed but as a music enthusiast (while being completely unable to play any instrument or even read notes) I'm extremely fascinated by it.
Big Band is a hype character as well. His level 5 Blockbuster (that's what they call supers) is him stopping the match, and you get 7 seconds to freestyle before having to input a QCF+PP and it does 1/2 a health bar.

I stream for fun so normally this didn’t concern me but when I moved out of my parents it started making me really nervous about my priority management and messed up my self-confidence. I was already exhausted from main channel editing so convincing myself it was worth streaming and making highlights got harder and harder. It culminated in me just crashing and ghosting twitch for a while (and subsequently laying low on all social media). I feel bad for not broadcasting that outside of some streams, but the break was inevitable. Really there's a lot more at play than that, but the long-short is that I was in a funk for a while; now i'm getting the confidence back to be active. I'm not on a schedule but since I stream most weekends, there will be highlights again (though the main channel is still my breadwinner). Originally I tried to make a video just talking about this stuff, but decided i’d rather leave the ‘channel update’ videos back in 2016 and not fall into making excuses again. I'd like to mention that Portal 2 (yes old game I know) had different layers of music that reacted to your actions. Some more awesome examples of music mechanics in games: Terraria has a few instrument items that change pitch depending on how far your cursor is from your character. Duck Game has a bunch of instruments including a drumkit that you play with your controller, where each button plays a different part of the kit (kick, snare, cymbal, etc.). It also has a button that literally just makes you quack, but you can control the pitch with the left trigger (that's also how you control an instrument's pitch). And then there's WarioWare D.I.Y., which let's you make your own music for your microgames.
3:11 Was that No Surprises by Radiohead done with Minecraft note blocks? Well that definitely wasn't something I expected to hear today. Also, cool cover of The Good Life by Weezer at the end. EDIT: Oh, you always have some form of The Good Life at the end of your videos. Nice.
I think you would love the Warframe character Octavia: her gimmick is that you need to compose a literal 1 minute song for her, and her abilities work around the beats tempo and how you sincronize your actions around the song
to me one of the best music mechanics is how that in warframe Octavia's music changes how her ability's stats change and you can make the song all by yourself
I was really hoping Devil May Cry might show up, because the music just got louder and faster the better your convos were. But the blood type joke made up for that lmao
Oh my god! It's been a while since I've been on this channel and I can confidently say that you have been improving astoundingly! Moving away from TF2 related content is very risky and even though you still aren't completely separated from it (at least in my mind), I think you've been making a lot of improvements for the better (not to say that you weren't amazing before). The editing is so smooth on this video and the comedy and references are something to admire. Needless to say, I'm blown away by the quality. Props from a long time fan!
YESS FINALLY! Somebody mentions Wandersong. IT'S SO STINKING GOOOOOOOD! That game alone has given me more feels than all of the games i've played combined.
Have you not played Splatoon? The whole gimmick of the song "Now or Never" which plays every battle repeats a unfinished scale over and over to create a tense atmosphere.
A music-in-video-games review that discusses Zelda, Mario Paint, AND Wandersong? Take my hypothetical haphazardly arranged note blocks, man, you've earned 'em.
So in killer instinct when you defeat someone you can perform a ultra combo and all the hits are in sync with the music. Its really cool and I really like it

"Ocarona of Time and Majoras Mask are to Zelda what OK Computer and Kid A are to Radiohead" and right afer that, you transition into a minecraft cover of No Surprises. Didn't know I could feel feel more passionate about your channel
Friend: Why did you make a giant composition of noteblocks that play Space Jam?
Me: 4:19
7:35
Holy shit, the voice acting had me in stitches.
I hear the beginning of Megalovania at 0:40
Derek Beck yeah that was the joke
WOW kid you just got r/WOOOOOOSHED!!!! 😂😂👀
"Wooosh" means you didn't get the joke, as in the sound made when the joke "woooshes" over your head. I bet you're too stupid to get it, IDIOT!! 😤😤😂
My joke was so thoughtfully crafted and took me a total of 3 minutes, you SHOULD be laughing. 🤬 What's that? My joke is bad? I think that's just because you failed. I outsmarted you, nitwit.🤭
In conclusion, I am posting this to the community known as "r/Wooooosh" to claim my internet points in your embarrassment 😏. Imbecile. The Germans refer to this action as "Schadenfreude," which means "harm-joy" 😬😲. WOW! 🤪 Another reference I had to explain to you. 🤦♂️🤭 I am going to cease this conversation for I do not converse with simple minded persons.😏😂
@@whoislauf woah
davidmichael That’s the point idiot...
laufenn copy pasta. I bet you don’t even use reddit.
god i forgot how good and entertaining your videos are
I'm 25 and I still have clear memories of playing the Ocarina when I was a child... Great video 🙏
Im surprised that he didn't at least mention mother 3
loud screaming of pirate radio station for rollerblading thugs is my favorite track of all time
i genuinely got SO excited seeing another person acknowledge skullgirls
also weezer jumpscare at the end
“Oh I don’t mean rhythm games by the way”
>dark souls 3
Heh
i dont get it

Okay
That end bit there was just cute
Good stuff as usual
4:03 ok that’s actually pretty fucking good editing
Some more awesome examples of music mechanics in games:
Terraria has a few instrument items that change pitch depending on how far your cursor is from your character.
Where's mother 3 and its combo mechanic of pressing the select button to the beat of the battle song? It's not a rhythm game either it's an RPG.
Well he did say no rythem based games if that counts? Your not really making music your just timing beats
@@itjustworks1858 I would like to disagree
It Just Works if you know anything about the mother series, it doesn't have anything to do with music.
Nice.
SonicFanChris 4 I thought the exact same thing
Liked this comment because I wanted to know the song. Thank you
the outro alone cements funke as one of the most out of the box thinking and creative youtubers of our time.
Your transitions and editing are absolutely amazing
Music teacher: what music instrument fo you want to use?
Me: *_SQUARE_*
Let's all just take a moment to appreciate the insane amount of editing that went into this.
I think you would love the Warframe character Octavia: her gimmick is that you need to compose a literal 1 minute song for her, and her abilities work around the beats tempo and how you sincronize your actions around the song
"Waste of my fucking time" at the end sent me. I'm crying
to me one of the best music mechanics is how that in warframe Octavia's music changes how her ability's stats change and you can make the song all by yourself
Natsuki best girl? Ahh yes... i see... you are a man of culture as well
Best girl btw
I was really hoping Devil May Cry might show up, because the music just got louder and faster the better your convos were.
But the blood type joke made up for that lmao
3:49 HOLD THE GOSH DARN PHONE WAS THAT SOME KING GIZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD!?!?!?
Was that a king gizzard reference I see? Along with the previous mention of Red Vox, the idea that Funke and I listen to the same playlist is growing.
I love how in the outro sequence you hear Mario say "Waste of my fucking time!" as he runs offscreen
YESS FINALLY! Somebody mentions Wandersong. IT'S SO STINKING GOOOOOOOD! That game alone has given me more feels than all of the games i've played combined.
i'm so happy to have seen FFXIV's Bard Performance there. i got a midi keyboard just for that, and i've loved learning to play songs with it.
7:48 broo why... u didnt even finish the scale... that hurts my ears man
Oh god as someone who plays the violin that hurt my soul.
Have you not played Splatoon? The whole gimmick of the song "Now or Never" which plays every battle repeats a unfinished scale over and over to create a tense atmosphere.
slap dorian over it and call it a day
As a band kid, this gives me nightmares
YoYo Kid ew
Been a while since I've seen your vids. I forgot how good the editing is and funny they are. Keep up the great work man.
A music-in-video-games review that discusses Zelda, Mario Paint, AND Wandersong? Take my hypothetical haphazardly arranged note blocks, man, you've earned 'em.
0:14 I'm proud of you putting l4d in 2019
I was looking up a FUNKe video before you uploaded. Dang.
So in killer instinct when you defeat someone you can perform a ultra combo and all the hits are in sync with the music. Its really cool and I really like it
4:02 THAT TRANSITION THO. Your really killing it with them, the paranaplant pipe was cool too!
6:54 Game name?
7:06 Game Name 2: Electric Boogaloo?
Empyreous
6:54 = Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
7:06 = -Guild Wars 2 (Maybe?)- After reading the replies and playing the game it’s 100% Final Fantasy XIV
@@vastayanvixen685 Thanks
From the look of the UI and that the character looks like a miqo'te, the second one is actually FFXIV.
7:06 is definitely Final Fantasy XIV
3:33 if you ever frame your mind and see it all in another light...
nice one justyn
I KNEW I WASN'T IMAGINING HEARING RED VOX
Also: Warframe's Mandachord also lets you make your own songs and receiving buffs requires you to actually "dance" to the song you chose
i was hoping for him to mention it. i dont play warframe but my little brother does, and he asked me to compose a piece for him. it was surprisingly intuitive, and as an actual musican, i can see how someone would sink hours just on that one feature alone.
And by that you mean, "spam crouch until you turn invisible"
Aah yes the control button murderer octavia
Yeah Ive never sunken so many hours in one single warframe like in octavia and if done right you will get some nice feedback :)
remember kids, just spam crouch until your finger hurts
That final line was hilarious 😂😂😂 Great video btw!
