Yes, thank you! This is what irks me about the "they were awarded way too much money" complaints. I'd say, take back your $270 million if you can bring me my mother back...
The point is: that much money sends a big fat message and vindicates the Kowalskis vs an institution that was still arguing the jury got it wrong, even after verdict.

I was raised in the foster care system. People need to wake up to the fact that case workers are just normal people and can be as toxic and super power tripping as any other field. I know this very well and more safety measures need to be put in place.

The culture at this hospital has not changed at all. The video of 2 current execs congratulating themselves for their “care” of Maya puts the cherry on top of the hubris of all the staff and doctors that testified. They absolutely refuse to examine their own behavior and the damage it caused. It’s frightening to see these seemingly normal, educated professionals behave as gossiping, abusive tyrants to a 10 yr old girl and her family. Even in the face of all the evidence to the contrary and even when they have literally tormented an innocent woman to death, they cling to their view like rabid dogs to a bone. Their culture has made them into monsters.

They dont care about the money. It's a drop in the bucket. They will never admit they were wrong. The only way to stop these injustices is to refuse care at their facilities. You could not pay me to take my kid to ANY hospital that has these new "medical child abuse units " Their sole goal is to find as many cases as possible. They are wrong WAY more than they are right and the for whatever reason think they have the authority to just hold someone's kid. No cps, no cops just decide you are a danger...just like they did to Maya . This happens ALL THE TIME when dealing with hmrhose units and most families are too scared after they get their kids back to do anything for fear of retaliation. Those units are not acting with any authority. It's criminal they are getting away with it.

When it comes to intent, the hospital not only believe Beata was “abusing” Maya they also believed Maya was faking her symptoms. They intentionally did things to make Maya do certain things that caused her more pain and suffering. This is clear intent to cause harm

      AGREED
I didn’t care for the cameras “staying” on Maya, as Peter mentioned.
But, the reality is her brother LOST his Mother too & I found it sweet & touching to see her wrap her arms around him, seemingly sharing this victory.
He lived this nightmare as much as anyone else in that family; not to mention the time & attention he likely, understandably went without due to having a seriously ill sibling. Add this travesty, living with parents FIGHTING a HOSPITAL, tasked with CARING for his sister & ultimately losing his Mom, in a horrific manner … their father losing his wife.
Maybe the whole of this hospital, every Dr, every nurse or even Administrator is NOT a heartless monster. They may want to consider seeking work elsewhere. I would NEVER want my name & professional integrity associated with such an obviously callous organization.
They trusted them with the life, health & well being of their child & they were demonized, falsely accused & treated like garbage. I pray this hospital will finally set this family free & allow them to begin to heal, with a swift settlement.

I know there has to be plenty of other families who wanted to do the same but couldn’t afford it. I hope John Hopkins and all other hospitals change their behavior. This is NOT okay. I was crying with them when the verdicts were being read. I think this is a MAJOR exposure for all hospitals because some pretty shady stuff happens at many different hospitals around the country. I’m really happy about the outcome of this case, however, the defense really didn’t even have a great defense. The people they brought on the stand were so defensive, cold, and nothing to support a valid argument or defense. The defense lawyers really had nothing left but desperation and begging. They got pretty hammered.

Having been a case manager for Florida DCF, specifically in Pinellas County, I can attest to how badly our child welfare system is broken. I had a handful of cases that involved Sally Smith & Cathy Bedy & will say that neither one of them have any business working with children & families. The amount of power that you are given is great & unfortunately, some become power hungry which can cause you to view things through the wrong lense.
If the hospital & the defense counsel are doubling down & are "heartbroken" for the staff that participated in MK's care, why did they let Cathy Bedy go?? If the hospital believes that she provided stellar care, you'd think she'd still be employed with them...

I just watched the Netflix movie. How did JHACH hire Mrs.Bety after she had been arrested for child abuse?? She attacked a boy and then put her knees on his chest. The other employees got her off him and called the police.
That was not admitted but Beata and Jack knew this!!! Yet, she was with their daughter and they were under court orders with limited or no contact.
No wonder Anderson and Whitney were so adamant about their case.

Life when you have a child with rare medical complexities is just harder. It’s more work. It’s more thinking and careful consideration. It’s more planning. It’s more fear for the future. It means being seen by 17 different specialties regularly (truly!). It can make you the best version of yourselves- and sometimes the worst. I wouldn’t trade places with anyone as a “medical mom.” It brings me such joy to take care of my child and I’m always learning new things and we meet so many wonderful people. And the Dr.’s, RN’s and your team at the hospital should be a part of YOUR support system. Working to identify and support the health goals for your child’s quality of life. Supporting- not steering- the way for your family’s future. This case really just hurts my heart.

My worst medical experience RECENTLY was that I had sent a message saying that I was unhappy with the quality of my care, and that they were treating me as a drug-seeker.
At my next visit, they brought in their mental health specialist!
Because if I have concerns about my care, I MUST BE CRAZY?!? Having a crisis?!

    Dear Peter,
    I Subscribed so now you're at 290K.
I've watched each day of Maya's Trial live. I left many comments and got to know many others watching live. I have served on several trials, one Civil, and one Criminal plus served on our local Grand Jury. I was in law enforcement through high school and for over a year after I married. I was one of the first female cadets and talked our Chief into allowing the female cadets to go on Ride-A-Longs with the Officers. (1970's)
I received an offer to go through the Police Academy, which I had always wanted but my first husband was jealous of my working with men, which put an end to those plans. The night we finished the Federal trial I went out for a drink with one of the Attorneys. Our town is smallish and they knew his wife was my children's teacher and I babysat their children. The Attorney asked how we came up with our verdict. One sticking point was that there were no tired tracks or skid marks so he did not try to stop. We all knew the area, it was raining heavily so they would have hydro-plained leaving no skid marks. He couldn't believe he hadn't thought of that. Many years later we had some new friends over, for supper, we kept thinking we had met before. His old trial came up, I excused myself to go find an old newspaper article, then handed it to them. I'd been foreman on his trial. He was happy to find out we thought about him hydro-plaining. If you read my very long story, I thank you. I look forward to watching more of your insights. God bless you and your family. Hugs from northern California.

Sadly, this happens to vulnerable adults too. A night nurse at a hospital in Ocala, FL lied and said I yelled at my mom. He and another male nurse confused my mom who has aphasia and said she didn't want me there so I was kicked out. The day before, FL DCF unlawfully took custody and revoked my DPOA. My sister filed false allegations but now us remorseful after seeing DCF kidnap my mom. DCF investigator did ZERO investigation and filed motion for guardianship without proof of false allegations, DCF and their attorney withheld my evidence, lied and slandered me without any proof to both judges at 2 separate Zoom courts 60 days apart. BOTH judges did NOT let me speak and made ruling from hearsay and didn't look at facts. How does this happen in America??
Trying to get help once DCF is involved is very hard. I hope to find a lawyer but it's a complicated case. I haven't seen my mom since April 25, 23. She's being held against her will at a nursing home and DCF has denied all visitors and calls. A few people tried visiting her 2 weeks ago and were told she wasn't there. THAT'S INHUMANE, CRUEL AND ABUSIVE. Yet no one is helping us yet. These things should never happen to anyone. It ruined our lives. I'm so happy for the Kowalskis big win and hope it truly does change policies and procedures. I was able to get video of my last visit with my mom as I was getting kicked out. Stroke Lemonade on TT.

What I’ve learned by going to hospitals and seeing doctors and specialist is that some of them are healthcare providers and some of them are profiteers. In 26 years with this disorder and three others, I can count on one hand those that have truly cared about me and helped me. Doctors also do not like to be challenged and that has also caused me great harm and a total waste of time and energy schooling them about a disorder they didn’t learn about in med school nor seen on a patient in person. They KNEW they were in the wrong (demonstrated by withholding specific information) but did not care. Maya was horribly affected and her family irrevocably devastated. Every patient was in danger with these power hungry people who forgot their purpose.

#replay crew thank you for your coverage of this trial, as you know it was so close to so many of us chronic pains sufferers who have been lied to, belitted, shamed, accused and gas lit in many circumstances. I love your legal take and your balanced view. Was so amusing to see yesterday watching your live stream when you had to watch on normal speed, it looked painful for you. As an ND I get your pain at normal speed!
