    Anyone using 2 inch net cups - use 4 inch pvc down pipe for the main tower but make the slits at least 5cm wide and use 1.5 inch pipe tapered to a point at one end to make the holes in the slits. Worked for me. 2” net cups sit nicely in the holes. I made a 1.8 metre tall tower from a 4” wide downpipe and using the technique in this video for the holes for the net cups. Attach a 15mm or 20mm wide straight tube or pvc pipe to a mini submersible water fountain pump in a bucket or tub with a lid, cut 4” diameter hole in lid for tower to go through and put the finished tower system over the pump/tube sat in the bucket of water. Put a cap on the top of the tower or cover with plastic bag and elastic band at least. Switch pump on a timer if possible set to 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off and experiment.

      What's the outside diameter of the 1.5 inch pipe you use for making holes? We are all mm (metric) here so can't locater 1.5 inch pipe. If you just give me the outside diameter in mm that would be great!!! :) or outside diameter in inches will be great also.

    Hi! Can you make a video about water pumping system inside the tower?

    • @missfixitCanada
      @missfixitCanada 4 роки тому +6

      If it was me (and I was doing aquaponics instead of hydroponics) I'd put a 5 gallon pail with a lid at the bottom of the tower to act as a buffer tank and a submersible pump in it to bring water back to the aquarium (being careful to keep the flow rate where your pump won't cavitate) and have a separate pump in the aquarium to put water in through the top (once again watching the flow rate to make sure it doesn't over fill the 5 gallon pail at the bottom).

      @@missfixitCanada can you please explain. I don't understand. Thanks

    • @fortnitefanatic7947
      @fortnitefanatic7947 3 роки тому +3

      @@mamadffaye In the aquaponic system Jessica is describing, water is pumped from a fish aquarium to the top of the tower shown and dispersed. That water flows down through the tower, giving the plants water and nutrients. That water falls into a bucket below, and is then pumped back into the aquarium, completing the cycle.
      For a hydroponic system, which doesn't involve fish, nutrient solution would simply be pumped from the reservoir at the bottom of the tower to the top, where it would then flow back down into the bucket.

    Your system is the best I have seen of getting the pots to the inside of the large pipe so make sure water hits all the pots. Ingenious method of using the pipe to make the bend. Why both spend money on pvc y joints when this works better and gets the pods inside.

    Just FYI I’d only try this outside as PVC fumes can be extremely dangerous when it hits a melting point. As for leaching chemicals, I wouldn’t know if melting the PVC creates potentially lingering issues however one person pointed out that growing your own food is often healthier versus store bought so perhaps that offsets potential hazards.

    • @NaveedAkhtarButt
      @NaveedAkhtarButt Рік тому

      You are only softening PVC pipe, no fumes will get out as melting point will not be achieved.

    • @CharlesLeo
      @CharlesLeo Рік тому

      That is not true. Simply by melting, off-gassing occurs. You don’t need a fire to breathe in toxic chemicals. Same applies to other plastics such resin-based 3D printers. Many gasses are invisible and toxic. Again, I would only recommend doing this outside. @@NaveedAkhtarButt

      I haven't built this yet but if I do I'm planning to run 3/4" PE tube up the inside from a submerged pump in the reservoir that has barbs splitting out to several 1/4" PE tubes pointed at different sides of the pipe. That should get you good coverage along the walls of the pipe. To be even more sure you could use 1/4" spray emitters

    • @beut6151
      @beut6151 3 роки тому

      PVC does not leach things to water. It resists inorganic substances
      Our piping systems use PVC, even residential water.
      Its not like we are consuming it, so don't worry 😂😂😂
      But of course, avoid direct sunlight. UV light ruin its structure, then its particle will leach to air, water, or soil
