Which is the Best BMW 7 Series? Old vs. New!

I have owned the BMW E38 728i for around 6 months now. I decided to compare the '90s classic to its modern counterpart: the 745Le. BMW kindly lent me this 2022 G12. Both cars have their merits, but which is best?

The newest 7 like all new cars are light years ahead of these 20+ year old beauties. That being said the E38 is the last big BMW collector car. After the E65 most 7 series vehicles can’t be maintained or seriously worked on by the owner. The passion of the owner is what keeps these cars on the road and I feel the passion or obsession for the E38 and generations before it has not been matched by later generations. I expect that E38 will still be on the road 10 years from now where as that late model 7 may not. I hate to say I would be terrified to purchase and own one of these new 7 series BMWs long term. A lot of sleepless nights.

Nice green 728i. Btw, I have never heard of this "Auto Comfort Seat" feature. 16-way Comfort seats provide reasonable comfort at the expense of a rather loose thig support, and anyway keep aboslutely static during the ride. If you want firmer support, go for the 18-way Konturseat, but be aware that on long distances, Komfort is far better. Otherwise, voice recognition is excellent (although a bit slow in its process) when using the integrated car phone (yes it is still a nice feature to use nowdays). Navigation with voice rec is meaningless in this car. Ah, and definitely no, the E38 is NOT 4 meters long, it is 4,98 meters (short wheel base) - add another 15cm for the long wheel base.
